Students now allowed to observe their SLC answer sheets TCP News Service Kathmandu In a decision that can be termed as a landmark move in Right to Information, the office of the examination controller has decided to allow students to see their SLC answer sheets. Nation Information commission had issued directive to the examination control to make provision to allow students to see their answer sheet if demanded on 2068 Bhadra 3 after a complain filed by Ashes Neupane, a SLC graduate of 2067. Now the SLC examinees of 2068 can have hassle free access to their answer sheet if they are not satisfied with obtained marks.

For that, the students will have to file an application for re-totaling first within the 15 days of the date of publication of the results. If even re-totaling does not satisfy the students, then as a last resort they can apply for taking a look at their answer sheets within another 15 days. A recommendation letter from the concerned school and another from District Education Office are the required documentations for the process. A charge of Rs 1000 per paper will be charged for concerned students. However, the name of the examiners will not be revealed to the students as the first sheet of the answer sheet will be kept in confidence.

Reshmi Kumpakha Binita Baral, an emerging face on Nepali film industry along with the Nepalese audience were stunned when the actress’s so called nude photograph got published on ‘Nagarik Shukrabar.’ Since then Binita and her photographs have been the burning issues in media and society. While the media and audiences are busy over commenting and justifying her deeds, Binita is very worried on her social image. Calling a press conference on 25th November at Kathmandu, she justified that she was not nude on the photos as projected by ‘Shukrabar.’ She also clarified that those photos were supposed to be published as the promo of the movie. On a very sappy expression, she spoke to TCP. She said that she remained unknown about the photo leaks unlikely to the agreement she had with the production team. “Initially I wasn’t ready for the photo-shoot. I agreed only after they convinced me almost for an hour,” said Binita. She said that the photos were leaked by the Producer of the film, Arjun Kumar without informing her as a publicity stunt of their upcoming movie. Besides, she also mentioned that producer Arjun Kumar accepted it as his mistake. However the production team including Arjun Kumar were absent on her justification press conference. Binita seemd prepared to forgive the production team this time as she spoke to the media that she is not taking any legal actions on this case. “But I will not stay silent lon-

ger any more if such cases repeats again,” she reported. ‘MA NANGIYEKI CHHAINA’ was her justification on the conference. She claimed that the photographs were edited for publication. She repeatedly said that she was not nude at all, for she had wore black bikini underneath the hands, of herself and Co-actor Amir Gautam. However on asking that would she again make such bold scenes for other movies, she replied that she will do as much as the scenes require and justify the characters.

Ashish Luitel, Editor, Hello Sukrabar: I am not satisfied with the MLTR.Waste Day !!

Aaditya Pokhrel On the much hyped concert on November 19, Michael Learns to Rock, a renowned Danish soft-rock group, had yet to learn a trick or two about rocking Nepali audiences to the full, it seemed. After a roaring success of the Bryan Adams concert a month back, expectations were heavy from the trio of Jascha Richter, Mikkel Lentz and Kare Wanscher. Except for a couple of songs like Sleeping Child, Someday, Blue night, Paint my love, Take me to your heart, MLTR aren’t exactly a crowd favorite and add to the fact that their set list consisted of little-heard songs to Nepali audiences like; It’s Only Love,

Komal Oli debut as a Heroine

It’s going to make sense, Take Off Your Clothes, and a new one from their upcoming album, You get the gift. The otherwise superb sound system started off shakily as it could be noted that it almost blanked out Jascha’s vocal for a line or two during the performance of the crowd favorite Sleeping Child. Jascha was clearly not pleased with the sound system as he singled the sound guy in the middle of the performance of ‘Love will Never Lie.’ However not all was blue for the ‘Blue Night’ hit makers. The acknowledgement must be given to the organizers, not just for the grand scale of the event but also for the quality in terms of other organizational traits. Security

was tight and emergency services were standby through the night as the concert went without a hitch. Not the entire crowd seemed to have enjoyed the concert thoroughly. Ashish Luitel, Editor of Hello Sukrabar, a weekly supplement of Kantipur, later Facebooked after visiting the concert: “Just back home! I am not satisfied with the MLTR :( I had lotz and lotz expectations! Waste day!” Similarly, Neetu Thapa, who had been on the concert, reported TCP similar to Luitel. ‘Though I’m not a huge fan of MLTR, I expected this night to be an enjoyable one and unfortunately that didn’t happen!!’

Growth of Korean culture among Nepali Youths

Notion of the month I wouldn’t do nudity in films. For me, personally... To act with my clothes on is a performance; to act with my clothes off is a documentary. Julia Roberts

EDITORIAL

Fame in nudity With the nude photographs of Nepali actress Binita Baral, media has got an eye on her. Her popularity has reached on climax as her recently clicked nude photo with a guy for her new film ‘Chapali Heights’ was published by different news media. Such photo of her explaining sex no more than entertainment source and physical satisfaction has created a bad impression of her newly made ‘image’ on people. With the gradual change in glamour world, the concept of nudity is too changing expressing it within the nude body of models and actresses. The word ’nude’ is itself an abandoned word however people have started being nude in their behavior. Nude photographs have become a’ gateway pass’ to make an entry in modeling world and film world. Even it has become a perfect way to become a celebrity from a normal human. Actress Binita Baral has turned out to be an exception to the concept of typical and traditional Nepali girl. Nepali society has not even reached to the level that it go beyond the chains of its norms and values .Wearing short dresses and unnecessary revelation of body parts especially in the case of women is still a’ taboo’ in Nepali society though Nepali women have started adopting Western culture and fashion in the name of modernity .Whether or not actress Binita Baral is in the same phase of stepping in glamorous world. To some extend she has used her freedom by doing such act of her willingness. Her actions are instances of what 21st century Nepali women would long for. Her pictures may turn out to be inspirational for some women who want themselves in the place where Binita Baral currently owes her supremacy. A glimpse of her nature is exposed in the picture taken for Chapali Heights. In order to be a ‘star’ from the very first movie, she left no lagging in acting and earning fame. However her act may not consequence good to all. She has just started her acting career and she should be aware of the facts that her ’nude nature’ may bring a full stop to her career. Using freedom going beyond the limit is no good at all. People who are involved in such acts to earn name and fame should think about the adverse effects brought about by them. Also those encouraging factors behind the curtain should be alert before letting in people expose more than required.

Alina Khadgi ‘‘K’ for Korean might be more familiar these days rather than K for Kathmandu. Surely, Korean culture and fashion have made a great influence among us Nepalese especially the youngsters. Be that for movies, songs, or accessories, Korean brands are often prioritized. The obsession with the Korean brands is so high that, they hardly care distinguishing between a Korean and a Chinese product. People are selling out low quality Chinese stuff in market in the name of expensive Korean brands; even the slightest of Korean touches is highly appreciated by the customers and is willingly bought irrespective of the prices. When asked to Sushil Giri, an owner of a CD shop in Lagankhel about his sales, he says- “People only come and ask for the latest Korean movies. Some look so young even to understand English or read the English subtitles of the movie, yet they are the regular customers of DVD’s of Korean movies”. Likewise, we can also see college students quoting

a phrase of two in Korea. Though they might not be the most fluent of speakers when it comes Korean language but you definitely can sense a Korean taste in their rather obscure accent. Shanti Rana, a student of Prasadi, regarding how she learnt Korean, exclaimed- “I don’t really know that well. I haven’t even taken any classes of Korean language. But I watch lot of movies. So I know the basic and regularly used Korean words.” She opines, although she knows just few words and phrases in Korean, she likes to repeat them on and on in suitable situations. She feels good and that has helped her to improve her Korean accent. She might have her own another passion and intention of improving her Korean accent. The stylish and strange hairstyles are vividly in fashion which is popularly known as “Korean cut”. Anybody would wonder what actually a Korean cut is. The scenario of Nepal is that, if it’s little cutesy and stylish they call it Korean cut, be that a boy’s hair cut or a

2

girl’s. Now that’s a place where we completely fail. We are totally in love with Korean culture and fashion, true! But why don’t we learn something from them and create something of our own instead? Perhaps, there could be some great outcome after the elaboration, refinement and combination of Korean and Nepali fashion? There are countries, who genuinely imitate Korean music and Korean movie ditto, yet they never mention anywhere or give priority to Korean culture but we are literally claiming ourselves to be the follower of Korean, demanding Korean stuffs, yet we fail in so many fields. Not that there is anything bad about Korean culture but we shouldn’t forget that there isn’t anything bad about Nepali culture too. If we are genuine enough to copy other culture we should be genuine enough to enrich and uplift Nepalese culture too which is already rich in itself. Just needs are love, care and priority. Should be given a thought!

Federalism based on ethnicity may spell disaster for the country

Ngima Gelu Lama The wind of Mass movement II has created a need of new constitution. With great hope from coming constitution a term ‘new Nepal’ has been a hot cake for Nepalese people and a banner for their political parties. One of the dangerous promises that the political parties used was to turn Nepal into a Federal Republic knowingly and unknowingly. ‘Federalism’ where a group of members are bound together by covenant with a governing representative head. ‘A system of the government’ in which sovereignty is constitutionally divided between a central governing authority and constituent political units (like states or provinces) system based on democratic rules and institutions is the dream where we are moving now. It has successfully worked in many countries like USA, India, Germany and many more. But does our context and condition match theirs’? Is Federalism magical in nature? Does it mean that when Federalism is established, Nepal will turn into paradise? To see how federalism can become fatal, the former Soviet Union is enough. The Soviets broke into 15 nations and there still exists the possibility of the emergence of more new nations from the already decimated Soviet empire. The dangerous of all is the leaders chanting the same Mantra of Federalism where each indigenous group of people will have an autonomous republic. What I know is, Nepal is a multi-ethnic nation where no group is in majority. According to

the 2001 census of Nepal, there are 103 different ethnic groups in Nepal. They speak at least 90 different languages. Some of the ethnic groups are as small as 164 people. For example, according to the 2001 census of Nepal there are only 164 Kusundas in Nepal and these people are nowhere else in the world. Different groups of people especially the ones demanding the autonomy are spread out throughout the nation. Therefore, introduction of Federalism or declaration of self governing regions based on ethnic groups will spell disaster for the whole country. It would not even benefit the group that is claiming autonomy. The ethnic groups such as Magars, Tharus, Tamangs, Newars, only constitute 7.14%, 6.75%, 5.64%, and 5.48% respectively. Moreover, these groups are not living in a particular locality. They are pretty much spread out throughout the country except the Tharus who mainly reside in the Terai belt. Against the backdrops mentioned above, the best way would be to empower the local governments. It will be a true democratic way of resolving the demands of Terai residents as well as the various ethnic groups of the hill areas. If need be, there could be the addition of more regions for administrative purposes. These development regions can well serve the principles of federal states if the power is wisely transferred to them. The development regions can manage among others promoting and protecting the cultures, traditions and other important issues of the ethnic units that fall under their responsibilities.

Touching the cloud Renu Suwal From the windowsill of bus, I saw a bunch of cloud floating on the deep sky fearlessly. They looked so pure, beautiful and shiny that whole world is just stunned to look. I feel very happy to see such a shiny white cloud and developed a thought of touching the cloud. How can anyone feel it? How does it feel? Does anyone know the feeling of it? May be not because touching the cloud is just a superb adventurous stuff to do in the life and it is not a thing an ordinary human can know and think about. Is cloud is like a soft, silky, and cozy like silk or may be smooth, yummy, juicy and puffy as ice-cream or like a comfortable couch. When I touched it then only I can express the godliest moment. My inside speaks that touching the cloud is just a ultimate freedom, where one can feel, what one need to feel but why it lingers my mind that cloud is not so free, just it gets movement because of winds and get crushed by sun and need to be poured from such a deadly height to earth where the world again smash and crumbled it into such a tiny drops. Our society is a huge set of cloud, where individual

plays the role of droplets and they are so deeply interrelated that one drop can pull the whole chain of system. The touch of society is really glamorous and splendid so as the feeling to touch the cloud. The individual have their one role in the society as the droplets has its own in sky which we can see in the time of raining. Do anybody feel the eternity of touch. Can anyone explain how it feels when we touch? I am really very eager to hear it. So that the pondering heart gets acceleration to beat fast on the tonic of intra large excitement as we receive in various occasion of societal culture. From birth to till death, one individual goes on lots of cultural and social processing. Does clouds droplet need to go? Beauty lies in the eyes of beholders. As we leaner on it, it seems so pure, beautiful, and dynamic and so on… Conflict makes society to glow, against its all odd. Struggle, dispute, and complain, discrepancy, envy and overreaction leads an individual to a societal clash and wars begins for survival. From the history, we have know that the entire society is heading off on the power of good resulting clash as a living society and collapse as a power of bad resulting as a historic society that once ruled the world. If the

clash exits in the society then can there be clash in the cloud. One cloud collides with another cloud for what? For survive or to bring survival, does it make difference between truth and reality? The thundering and lighting is an extra powerful weapon of beauty to show and indicate the beholders of the sky. They create the mystery and history once in the while we stare without blink. The reason to fight is to be near and to see someone is enough to show how we care, because living is far better than death. So individuals try hard to push just a small patch of cloud on the sky. Wow! So many lives, so many beauties, truths and dependencies. Once we find that the cloud is also like us and they also struggle to survive then we stop to throw tramtum on them. Oh! Cloud creates cloudy monuments as we built on land. They are more fabulous than any human creations and more momentum than first sight love and more fresh and pure than the heavenly thoughts. Just want to be mesmerized, want to be lost, want to build mansion on the sky. Even though I cannot touch, my excitement will survive till I long.

Letter to the Editor ‘Tribulations of Bir Hospital’ was an interesting article to read. I memorize one of my incidents on the hospital where my son had to suffer longer for taking wrong medicine. The doctor had suggested correct one but the pharmacist handed me a wrong drug. Later the pharmacist reported that he couldn’t understand writings of many doctors. Therefore he had guessed what the doc-

tor had written and handed me the medicine. This is common trend in clinics and hospitals of Nepal. Doctors write very haphazardly and hence miscommunication occurs between patient, doctor and the pharmacy. Suman Giri, 42, Kalanki I went through the first issue and found it very worthy to read. Budget is most crucial while producing a movie: Richa

Which is more preferable for students? Laptop or Desktop? Why?

Biplav Acharya with Richa Ghimire How do you find the present scenario of Nepali movie Industry? To be frank, the industry is on a very critical condition. Since some producers aren’t producing the movie according to the market value, films are not even meeting their investment. Each year round about 50 movies are released, out of which only few gets good audience.

no negative influence over my personal life. How frequently do you watch Nepali movies? I can’t say every, but I watch most of the movies. What are major obstacles for one to stand on Nepali movie industry? One needs to have a good knowledge of the industry before entering. Similarly, one needs to have good academic qualification too. It’s better when new comers are trained concerning dance, fight, acting etc. So it’s better if one joins the industry with trained skills.

What measures can be taken to improve the standard of Nepali cinemas? Well, the most important of all is the technical aspect of the movie. Movies should be technically sound. After the screening of Kagbeni, I think many film makers have realized the importance of technical part in the movie. In recent days, almost every movie makers are emphasizing on the technical portion. Besides, budget is another crucial factor. To make a better movie, one should invest a good sum of money too. Have you considered those measures in your movie ‘Break-fail?’ No doubt, the movie was praised by lots of viewers. There were no complaints regarding direction, camera handling, artist’s performance and other technical aspects. Along with that, the movie was made with the investment of good sum of money. But sad to say, it couldn’t collect its investment in Nepal. So, I am planning for foreign screening. How is it different from other movies? Location wise, Break-fail is different in comparison to other movies. Unlike others, Break-fail doesn’t intend to give lectures to

How do you describe recent photoshoot scandal of Binita? I have been always standing as one who stands for deceptive truth. If Binita claims herself rational, she should take some action concerning the photo leak. If she seeks for help, I am always ready to help her in any kind. its viewers. In addition to that, this movie is completely based on entertainment. No character on the movie seems to be poor or sad. How do you balance your family and career? My husband is also involved in movie industry. So, he can understand me and vice-versa. Similarly, while we are at home, we usually don’t gossip about movies. In short, my career has

First evening cycle rally in Nepal TCP News Service Kathmandu On 19 November 2011, considering the mark of the black spot, Kathmandu Cycle City 2020CCNN, made a graffiti of Ghost Bicycle at Balkhu where eminent conservation biologist Late Dr. Pralad Yonzon had lost his life in a bicycle accident who was hit by a truck on October 31, 2011. On the same evening, more than 100 cyclists joined for the “evening cycle rally 2011” first of its kind in Nepal. The rally was scheduled from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The theme of the rally was ‘Get Visible.’ The rally started from the death point of Dr. Pralad Yonzon’s

at Balkhu. There was a minute silence for peace of the departed soul before the rally started its journey. “This overwhelming participation and support from cyclists have further proved our summit for cycle safety and necessity of cycling infrastructures on the streets of Kathmandu which is not friendly enough for safe bicycle riding, whether at day or night,” says an organizer, Rajan Kathet. He further adds, “Cycling at night is full of risks since most of our streets have no sufficient lights, are full of potholes, without speed limits and no lane segregation for motorized and non-motorized vehicles for which we had made a compulsion that everyone must come with lights.”

Anuja Khadka The standing equestrian statues around Tundhikhel today, were once ornaments of the Kathmandu city. Some six decades ago, the rulers of the flamboyant Rana regime erected seven equestrian statues. As Rana rulers travelled many places, they were stirred by the equestrian statues which symbolized the victory, power and pride. An equestrian statue is the type of statue with a rider specially; build in the name of great warriors mounted on the horse. Kathmandu has a presence of such seven equestrian statues of Rana premiers; Jangha Bahadur Rana, Ranodip Singh, Bir Shumsher, Chandra Shumsher, Juddha Shumsher, Commander – in- Chief Dhir Shumsher, and king Prithivi Bir Bikram Shah. These statues once occupied the main streets of the capital but with an extension of the roads during the reign of late king

I would rather choose laptop because of its comfortable features. Laptops are off course very portable device to carry to any locations. Meaning that, student can communicate and research at multiple levels .For students, analysing the present situation of Nepal, they don’t have to wait for the electricity to accomplish their task in case of loadsheding if they acquire laptop. Laptops are most important to save the documents at the time of sudden electricity shut. Ashish Sharma, 20, Student I am student and I go for laptop. I probably don’t have to mention about its portability. The great advantage of laptop is that it’s more private. You can make a security system which is much safer that the desktop. Important documents and works of students cannot be theft easily. The mobility of laptop indeed saves the time of preparing for next lesson each day. And, it’s faster too. Aayusha Bhandari, 17, Student I feel laptop is more preferable than desktops. Laptop can be carried anywhere. Moreover, data can be recorded easily and the performance of laptop is faster in comparison to desktop. Laptops give the option of being wireless which I think is very essential for students to remain connected and study. Rupesh Pandey, 21, Student

Most language class students are overseas oriented TCP News Service Kathmandu On a research conducted on 100 trainees who had achieved language classes on various education institutes, only 32 were satisfied with what they had achieved. Most complained that they were not trained by professionals. Speaking to TCP, Rahul Maharjan, 23, from Chabahil said, “I went for English class on three different institutes, but still I was not confident on what I spoke. Finally, I joined Pythagorus Academy as recommended by my friend and it has boosted my confidence.” Rahul’s satisfaction enthused us to go to the academy

Mahendra, they were shifted to other places. The statues of JBR and Juddha today stand inside the Nepal Army Club whereas open to the public at Tundhikhel locates the statues of Ranodip and Chandra. Bir’s and Dhir’s are secluded in the arena of Sainik Munch with disallowance for public. Similarly, just behind the Bhadrakali Temple stands statue of Prithivi.

3

Around Rs 70,000 are said to be allegedly commissioned to erect the statues of JBR and Ranodip Samsher. But there is still the confusion about whether this amount of money was spent on either statues or only one. The sculptor of JBR’s statue was T.Brocks, who was a Royal Academy Art member of Britain. The stallion of Dhir and Prithivi seem calmer in comparison to other statues of Ranodip and Chandra, positioning the front left leg in air. In the other hand, Bir’s seems calmer without any rage on horse.

situated at Putalisadak. Talking to other students there, we found that it provides classes on cheap rate with well equipped classrooms, proper infrastructures and sound environment. Hom Nath Acharya, Managing Director of the institute says, “Most students who come for language classes are oriented for abroad.” Further, he says that political disturbances and strikes are the main cause for student’s inclination towards overseas. ‘We also provide LokSewa preparation module along with the language class with highly trained professionals not exceeding 15 trainees on a group,” he added.

The horse of JBR looks petrified. The hooves of horse in an equestrian statue carry certain meanings about the death of the rider. However, these statues lack proper research. These sculptures require proper cleanliness. The statue of Chandra, standing at the corner of Tundhikhel, is surrounded by scattered plastics. The insects can be the major challenge for the safety of the statue. In the other hand, the sword of JBR has been neglected as it was broken. Few cracks on the pedestals of statue notify the laxity. Taking a look at the creativity of the art on these statues, a much of devotion is required to build the one. Beautifully dressed rulers and facial lines are wonderful. Not all of these stunning works of art are available to be seen by the public. The ones allowed are bothered by the sky bridge and are at the back of public which has disturbed the real beauty.
