ABSTRACT
People | Context | Space I believe great design should prioritize all three above mentioned criteria – People, Context and Space. As good designers, we can manipulate space and maximise area to produce elegance of comfort. People utilizing the spaces should inform its program, circulation, and feel of various spaces. Its context would inform the style, form, and presence. This therefore will result in a building or space that is unique, responsive, elegant, and most importantly serves the users needs that will be occupying them daily.
Communication Technical drawings have always added another layer into the design process and is something I appreciate. With knowledge in characteristics in materials, it allows me to produce effective designs and construct great buildings. Visual design is about communication. Architecture is just that. Through applied principles, incorporating design considerations, space, complimenting hues, layout, it will to everyone; it should be able to speak for itself an elevate the art of living.

BOUNDARY STREET

Boundary Street is constructed as a concrete structure with light weight façade, 4 storeys, 25 townhouses located in South Melbourne. Within the documentation team, I facilitated communications between the client and contractors that enabled the decision to variate from lightweight to concrete construction. That said, this required myself to conduct significant structural information gathering to enable the design model process. As a core member, I partook in important client consultations. It was decided to construct the project from lightweight to concrete construction. Following this decision, structural information played a large role in the design model due to columns locations affecting the design intent. Documentation of wall types, concrete set-out plans and general set-out plans including coordination with services’ consultant drawings. I attended to the stair structure to work alongside with the requirements from town planning and Australian standards. Through this process, it has allowed me to attend services’ consultant meetings to determine allocations of structure, civil and mechanical options, maintaining and providing a better understanding of the structure and the processes required to adapt the updated information for the new design model.

Stage 6c Ground Floor Plan
This is an visionary townhouse development, part of a local masterplan for central shopping centre development located in Truganina. The focal point is the town centre located in the centre of the masterplan. Stage 6c consists of 29 townhouses located south east of the local town centre and stage 7 consisting of 64 townhouses located to the north of the town centre. My role was to produce a town planning package under the direction of the project architect. This entailed model design, design and develop the floorplans, sections and elevations utilizing Archicad software. Coupled with skilled experience in documentation, my knowledge in materials, construction builds and building code requirements, it allowed me to produce effective and efficient designs, approved by the project architect.

As an extension to the existing school, this engagement consisted of designing and creating an allowance of a technology allotment for an approximate housing of 200 students for the school’s students. Appointed as the 2IC, I oversaw the production for design documentation and collaborated with multiple consultants. With on-site visitation, this allowed better understanding of project communication, specific requirements and ensuring my client’s needs were met. This project was indefinitely a pivotal engagement in terms of my learning expansion. Thus, it allowed me to understand users’ requirements such as student’s height which was reflected on the bench top heights and materials for durability. Neighbouring the technology block, there was a further requirement for a tensil roof to the sports court. This required me to approach various manufacturers, engage and collaborate together for design constructions and ensuring costs were within the allocated budget.

Located at Belgrave amongst single dwelling townhouses, nestles a low-rise apartment block. The project contains 11 apartments with a precast concrete construction build. As part of the documentation team, my responsibility was to oversee the town planning endorsement set. This consisted of ensuring requirements such as set-backs were met, window glazing for over-looking and other design constraints. In addition, I had to build the file set-up for design documentation as well as wall types to be prepared for design documentation. Client consultations and discussions pertaining to construction, faรงade materiality and other various integral matters on fire and acoustic constraints in conjunction with the neighbouring buildings has allowed me to strengthen my skills in grasping the importance of continual client communication through the whole process from concept to design documentation.

A new multi-residential located in Docklands, building A as apartments with lofts and building B as service apartments for Quest. My tasks were to update and coordinate construction drawings with information produced by consultants, updating drawings to follow shop drawings, facade details and to participate in documenting RFIs. By doing so, it allowed me to have a better knowledge of the project procurement procedure and methods. During contract administration, I was responsible for site building defects inspection, concentrating on internal rooms and corridors following documentation drawings and looking at the finishes for signs of defects logging each defect with the builder and client.

TITLE BOUNDARY
A set of opulent townhouses located in Richmond with red brick faรงade responding to the local context. I was responsible to review and revise the design documentation drawings based as per client requirements and adhere to budget restrictions and building requirements from the BCA. I researched on windows that not only required to maintain design aesthetics but also fit into the fire and ESD requirements. Notably, the details for the brick faรงade was challenging given that it provides zero structural support for the building. This therefore required consistent interaction with structural engineers to produce a viable solution yet maintain maximum yield to the townhouses.

Normanby road is a 40 story multi-residential building with hotel branded by Marriott from the ground floor to level 18 consisting of 193 hotel rooms, a common area including an outdoor pool and 111 apartments across level 19 to 39. The curtain wall façade is particularly unique given that it consisted of triangle planes at different angles to complete the building’s facade. I coordinated the hotel rooms and apartment rooms to identify and adopt a strategy, program, and process to enable project delivery. The timely completion and communication of accurate and comprehensible documents that includes the required drawings, wall type schedule, door type schedule and the works of a CAD manager. I was to coordinate all consultants and the required input to be placed into the drawings to provide the tender drawing set.

Banksia is part of a master plan designed by DKO architecture located in Clayton South, Melbourne. It is a 9-storey building with 2 basement levels, both acting as the car park including bike parking, storage and services. The building is a concrete structure with a precast facade typical and window wall facade system to the north and west corner. My responsibility was to coordinate and the design development phase. The initial task was for me to reproduce the town planning documentation into a detailed design documentation coordination model. My responsibilities also extended to coordination of wall types considering fire ratings, acoustic values and waterproofing. From this, I learnt to adopt relevant consultants’ reports and requirements into elements of the building as well adoption based on construction method and buildability.
