AIM: To develop and design a cultural cum Interpretation Centre in Pushkar, which may help in the interpretation of the city’s history and heritage as well as promote local art, craft and culture of the city.

OUTCOME: To showcase the city richness at one place. To provide a thermal comfort surrounding against the hot and dry climate of Pushkar To use more passive strategies and energy efficient techniques to save energy to the maximum extend.

CULTURAL CUM INTERPRETATION CENTER PUSHKAR, RAJASTHAN

NEED OF THE PROJECT: • There should be a cultural cum interpretation center Pushkar, so that the people could understand, learn and know the various facts related to the cultural heritage & mythologies of the city. • More & more people would get aware about its richness in culture, its history. It is also important to promote the hidden culture and craft of Pushkar for the betterment of the local people as well as for the city. • The structure would not only play a role of cultural centre for the city but would generate the revenue, adding to the economy of the city.

CONCEPT

“UNBOXING THE HIDDEN GEMS OF PUSHKAR” (A CULTURAL CUM INTERPRETATION CENTER FOR THE HOLY CITY)

The concept is mainly based on climatic consideration and thus more and more focus is given on providing thermal comfort naturally.

The main design challenge in this project was to derive a design resolution that would reflect the identity of cultural community of Pushkar

The concept taken was fusion, as Pushkar is a combination hills, water body and the desert, thus the design is developed with desert sand, water bodies, and building (the hills)

Secondly it’s the fusion of minimalism architecture with traditional architecture of Rajasthan, where the minimum decoration concept is taken from minimalism and is fused with the passive strategies concept of traditional.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT___________________________________________________________________________________________________

THE SITE IS DEVELOPED ON THE TRADITIONAL RAJASTHANI PRINCIPLE OF CLUSTERS WITH NARROW PATHWAY, BLOCK PROVIDS SHADED PATHWAYS AND BETTER AIR CIRCULATION, TRESS ARE GIVEN IN B/W THESE PATHWAYS MAKING IT EASIER FOR A PERSON TO WALK DURING HOT SUMMERS

THE SITE WAS DIVIDED INTO ZONES, COVERING THE WHOLE SITE AND LEAVING A SPACE THAT ALLOWS JOINING OF TWO COMMUNITIES. WHERE ZONING IS BASED ON PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SPACES.

THE SITE IS DEVELOPED WITH OPEN AND CLOSE SPACES WITH CONNECTING COURTYARDS AND CENTER COURTYARD. HEAVY TREES ARE PLACE ON THE SOUTH SIDE TO BLOCK HARSH SUN, LESS ON THE NORTH TO GAIN DAYLIGHT WITH TREES IN B/W THE PATHWAY.

Maximum visual connectivity

THE CIRCULATION IS CREATED TO FORCED PEOPLE TO MOVE IN A CERTAIN DIRECTION, FOCUSING ON THE TIME OR WAY THAT PEOPLE WILL WALK, IN ORDER TO HAVE DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE WITH IN EACH ZONE.

CONSIDERING THE CLIMATIC FACTORS AND CONDITION OF PUSHKAR, HIGH ELEVATION IS GIVEN ON THE SOUTH OPEN SPACES ARE KEPT ON NORTH, SO THAT IT MAY WORK AS A SUN SHIELD AND HELP IN CREATING MICRO CLIMATE.

Very less visual connectivity with library and workshop Almost no connectivity with the office

SITE DEVELOPMENT AND LANDSCAPE____________________________ The space around and within the building blocks are designed with trees, shrubs and grass The big tree along the boundary wall acts as a curtain to minimize air pollution, sound pollution and filter/cool the quality of air.

Water bodies are operational during hot and dry months and helps decrease the interior temperature through evaporative cooling provide in outdoor as well as indoor to provide better thermal comfort by creating microclimate.

MUSEUM DESIGN DEVELOPMENT_________________________________________________________________________________________

For the main museum block the initial plan used was of traditional Rajasthani plan `

The plan was further transformed to achieve the desire

While designing circulation of air from outdoor to indoor as well as within indoor is considered important, The phenomena of stack effect or warm air rises up is taken into consideration for designing

UNBOXING THE SPACE

ZONING Firstly the flow of proper air -indicating healthy and clean air through out the mall. (good hvac and indoor plants) Secondly flow in movement – indicates good circulation and corridors.

Third visual flowindicates covering maximum area of the shopping mall visually. i.e proper movement of eye without obstructions.
