GENERAL ASSEMBLY name:+Laboratory Field type: Academic / Group / Master Studio location: Berlin, Germany time: 2018/2019 fall tutors: Rainer Hehl (rainer.hehl@tu-berlin.de)
This is a research about typologies related to knowledge-based production. Vital aim is to create a new grammar by analyzing the main components of these activities and merging them with different implementations. The infrastructure will be an incubator which congregate creative and productive people / initiatives where they can develop their projects in an interdisciplinary environment. Discussions and interactions are the core of the General Assembly spaces that leads to a production of knowledge. This project starts off this notion and investigates the knowledge spaces. n the new charter of the general assembly redefines the extents of a future of an assembly space by implementing the production of the knowledge rather than representing it. This production of knowledge is shaped around laboratory spaces where physical and intellectual interaction is the most.

SUSTAINABLE SCHOOL PROJECT name:Playground School type: Competition Project, Group Work location: Istanbul, Turkey time: 2015/2016 spring
The aim of the project design both environmentally and socially sustainable school. The school will be multi-functional which can be used by both public and students. Our intellectual focus is to designa school which is based on experience and activity by brea king the monotenous and linear organization of the school. So this idea comes into life with amorphous masses which floats freely in two glass membranes. The cognitive approach provides a free dom where children can explore the space individually with their creativity. We would like to maximize functional relations between masses to enhance school’s multidimensional educational needs spatially. The building has double glazed facade which reduce

CONTEMPORARY INFRASTRUCTURE name:Upright Bologna type: Academic / Individual / Graduation Project location: Bologna, Italy time: 2015/2016 spring tutors: Aysen Savas, Agnes Van der Meij (aysens@metu.edu.tr)
The aim of the project is to design a cultural and educational complex as an extension of Bologna University near the Bologna train station which will be the new transportation hub of Europe. The programme consist of construction labs, student housing, library, classrooms and an audiotorium. In my site analysis, I discovered very well defined and valuable spaces inbetween blocks of Bologna. I would have liked to use these spaces in vertical direction by rotating blocks in 90 degree angle. Plans of bologna turns into sections of my design so the foot print of the building reduced to open up a space for public green where people of Bologna and students can integrate. The complex gets higher through the urban side and form towers which connects train station at -10 meter level with underground tunnels and gets lower and greener through residential area.

The project begins with the value of negative spaces of blocks in Bolognina. Complex spaces were created inside of the rectangular frame blocks. The design idea is rotating these block upright and provide a vertical continuity.

extrusion due to functions
Five blocks are selected and put consecutively in the site and whole complex is buried to -10 level. In between spaces are left for green urban spaces. Blocks change their heights and transperancy according to the domestic/urban axis. At train station side masses start as towers and descend through residential area, finally turn into productive greenhouses. Shear walls bear services and cores and from that shear wall transparent masses are extruded according to the functions. To conclude, the design purpose is to change all the negative spaces of blocks to positive green spaces act as a huge urban platform.

DEVIANT ARCHITECTURE name:Invaiding Antalya type: Academic / Individual / 4th Year location: Antalya, Turkey time: 2015/2016 fall tutors: Aysen Savas, Agnes Van der Meij (aysens@metu.edu.tr)
The aim of the project is introducing an utopian model of urban structure to Antalya which is a socially and spatially segregated city. The city is growing uncontrollably because of highly intake of refugees and immigrants. My proposal is reshaping the ‘void’ of the city by carving out the solids and rearranging figure-ground relations by providing functional and visual continuities . I would like to achieve an integrated, collective and humane city in which architecture and exterior space are fused. To control the ‘void’, a generative green-web spread through the city where it finds an underground water source. The ‘void’ is the space of expectation and possible which human interaction and events can take place.

longitudinal section of factory area
The green-web will penetrate the buildings and shape the facades to create three-dimensional facades that will interact with the environment more. The web is composed of three layers; water, structure and the green. Where structure finds a water source, it will suck the water and pump to higher levels to generate three dimensional green. So that people can produce their own agricultural products to maintain more sustainable living. Moreover, since the contour of the solids changed, public spaces are re-defined itself in multi-dimensional way. These public spaces will diffuse through the buildings and create flexible spaces where functions will be decided by residents. The ‘void’s will change the dense city texture and provide a relief.

void is the the space where human INTERACTION can take place
The factory area will be the main generator of green. All the walls of the factory will be deconstructed and it becomes completely open to nearby neighborhood which composed by a unified roof structure. A linear lake will be created and form productive pools inside factory . Dokuma area will form a buffer zone between locals and refugees. The whole area is an unoccupied void that needs to be utilized. So this place will be invaded by the green web. The green web will bear the main refugee complex. The factory will be a cultural and social space that reunite people of Antalya. With the same logic the void attract the people and provide new opportunities. Year by year, void will emerge through the city within green inside. The city gaps will turn to the new focal points of the city. The green web bears the life. City texture will be carved out to insert new functions, functions that people can discover by experience. Green will push concrete to the sea.
HOUSING PROJECT name:3C House type: Academic / Group Work / Structural Design location: Ankara, Turkey time: 2015/2016 spring tutors: Bekir Ozer Ay (ozer@metu.edu.tr)
The aim of the project is designing a weekend house which is structuraly stable. As a design concept, three ‘c’ shaped masses are located around a gallery space. We selected proper slab systems and estimate dimensions. I performed basic design calculations for flexural members and after that I checked the validity of design outcomes using some simple approximate methods. I found minumum beam depth, column area and slab thickness. I learned behavior and capacity of members under flexure.

EXHIBITED WORKS Red Velvet, Persona Non Grata Exhibition, Ankara Ulus Anafartalar Bazaar, with its life around it, carries both past and future potential to the present time. If the Ulus district is changed as planned, not only the buildings will be destroyed, the memories of people will be gone. This exhibition aims to get an attention to protect our memories. In Anafartalar, visitors are not in the position of an observer, they are been watching by the hundreds of mannequins. These mannequins have been there day and night, collecting every memory that we cannot see. In this work, I painted one mannequin to make it gain a personality, at the same time I selected a woman body to represent the naïve woman laborers of Anafartalar who are suppressed by male dominancy. The work takes its name from the velvet heart that represents suffering memories because of government’s deconstruction policy. This heart is trying to hold on the building but cannot…
CURATORIAL WORKS Aesthetization of the Invisible: Carving the METU Archive out The aim of the exhibition is to display and aestheticize the presence of the archive. The concept of transparency is not only the apertures in the process of diffusion, but also it is a tool for the representation of archive. Aesthetization of the invisible is through the “transparency” that is both the material and the concept of the exhibition. Hereby, with the “phenomenal” and “literal” transparency, the archive is aimed to be carved out to become visible. ARCHIVE I is the first exhibition of “DOME” I the “new” archive of METU Faculty of architecture, is to be the main reminiscent of the accumulation of the environment of the faculty.
