TThe National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) announced the winners of its annual Best in American Living Awards and Michigan was a standout with multiple winners in various categories. The Best in American Living™ Awards (BALA), is the building industry’s premier residential design awards program. BALA spotlights the most creative and talented building industry professionals who have redefined design excellence for homes and communities nationally and internationally. Winning projects showcase what building industry professionals need to know to set their product apart and hit the right mark with today’s highly educated and discerning home buyers. The talent of Michigan was acknowledged with high honors at the 2021 Awards Ceremony and Cosmopolitan Home is proud to share those winners including a few standouts in West Michigan.

The BALA Showcases Top Design Trends for 2022

With more than 140 single-family, multifamily, interior design, remodeling and community projects honored at the BALA ceremony that took place at the 2022 International Builders’ Show in Orlando, it was revealing to see what trends dominated.

“We’re seeing a continuation of recent trends, especially as they relate to outdoor spaces,” noted Allison Paul, chair of the 2021 judging panel and principal at Lessard Design. “The pandemic has definitely made people rethink how they live in their homes, and that’s reflected in the creative niches, attention to detail and quality, and general warmth present in this year’s BALA-winning designs.”

TRENDS INCLUDE:

Beamed and/or stained ceilings. Creative outdoor spaces. Improved indoor/outdoor connections. Better designs for affordable housing. More durable materials.

Resort-like amenities.

Enhanced focus on function.

Size doesn’t matter.
