Gala 2018

Fashion Industry's Best Looks

Famously quoted as fashion's biggest night out, the Met Gala is unquestionably one of the greatest events of the year on a global level. Historically, it has been called the Costume Institute Gala and the Met Ball and is, by context, a fundraising benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This excitement is further accompanied by the grand opening of the Costume Institute's grand opening of an annual fashion exhibition. The first benefit was founded by the publicist Eleanor Lam bert and held in 1948. This exhibition happens under a unique theme each year and previous examples of mind-blowing themes have included Manus x Machina, Punk: Chaos to Couture and China: Through the Looking Glass but this year , the theme was so genius it will be extremely difficult to top it in the times to come. Blending creativity with the right amount of contro versy , the theme was revealed to be Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. Vogue has had a direct part in hosting the Met Gala through its US editor-in-chief Anna Wintour while co-hosting has been honored by numerous pop celebrities including Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Marc Jacobs. This year, the prestige of co-chairing went to Donatella Versace , Rihanna and Amal Clooney.

Following a parade of stunningly gorgeous looks served to the world straight from the Met Gala 2018 red carpet, some internet vigilantes were not slow in point ing out the credibility of portraying religion. However, the joke was inadvertently on themselves as The Vatican had not only approved of the theme but also personally donated no less than 50 items coming from the Sistine Chapel Sacristy for display in the exhibition Out of the many celebrities that smashed the theme and told us all how it's done, the best dressed celebs included her holiness Rihanna who dressed as a glittery Pope and brought the world to its knees. Others who slayed the religious theme included Ariana Granda who literally wore Renaissance Art, Zendaya who came in flaunting a Versace chainmail dress com pletely engulfed in her character of Joan of Arc. Anoth er literal stunner of the night was Lily Collins with her reinvention of gothic chic complete with a rosary and a futuristic crown to show everyone who the queen was. Other notable efforts relating to the catholic theme were seen on Gigi Hadid who wore a dress that was reminiscent of the colored glass church windows while Bella also came to party wearing a gothic outfit com plete with a heavy black veil actually sewn into her head. Kim K showed up with glitter and sparkles com plete with a shiny cross to stick to the theme. However, it would not be wrong at all to say that the night was still won by the ultimate goddess of red carpets, our Blake Lively who strode in and owned everyone. A majestic dress that took more than 600 hours to make and jewelry worth around two million dollars , Blake knew what she was doing. Have a look at the night's best look especially brought together by COSMOS and decide your favorite.

Today, cont emporary art in Pakistan stands at a significant st age where young artists are emerging with brand new groundbreaking ideas to put Pakistani art on the world map. This outburst of hope and positivity in the area of visual arts owes its inception to several gurus and Salima Hashmi

t&

is unquestionably one from the leaders' class. Born in 1942 at Delhi and daughter to renowned marxist poet and literary giant, Faiz Ahmed Faiz and journalist Alys Faiz, Salima grew up amidst artistic flair and defined socio-political perspectives. This manages to ooze out of all of her art pieces to-date.

Opting for visual arts to give her creative genius an outlet, Salima Hashmi has been a student at the prized National College of Arts, Bath Academy of Art in Corsham and then at Rhode Island School of Design, US. Ret urning to her alma mater in Lahore, she taught at NCA for 31 years also serving as its principal from 199S to 1999. She serves as dean at the school of visual arts, Beaconhouse National University and has consequen tially been teacher and mentor to countless young minds providing the landscape of art in Pakistan with fresh benchmarks. Acting as curator and artist at countless art exhibitions and galleries all over the world has given her the experience and insight to now be providing new artsy voices of Pakistan a reputable platform in the form of Rohtas Gallery in Islamabad followed by Rohtas II in Lahore. Salima Hashmi is revered as a teacher and honored as a contemporary artist with her

'

own distinct voice that highlights her medium as a vital part of her art. Her life has had numerous artistic adventures and yet it all comes down to the duty of teaching art and she is one of the best we have had

socio-political views she has had as a character trait. A staunch supporte r of female empowerment, humanitarian efforts and pro-peace ideas and concepts, Mrs. Hashmi has always been openly and

...,......., "'

unabashedly opposed to the nuclear misadventure in the lndo-Pak subcontinent. One of her

"

most famous works, Zones of Dreams, is themed around that. Her art form primarily revolves around the use of the human figure as showing resistance to atrocities normally portrayed as ones delivered by the state. A rebel to heinous stereotypes, Salima unveiled an impassioned work titled Poem for Zainab when Zainab, a woman in Karachi had been subjected to extreme domestic violence by her cleric husband and political and state authorities had refused to take a stance on the issue¡

Her principles have led to an authoring experience for Unveiling the Visible: Lives and Works of Women Artists of Pakistan, a recent work titled The Eye Still Seeks: Pakistani Contempor ary Art relating to her father Faiz' poem Subh e Azadi and another art collection called Hanging Fire: Contemporary Art from Pakistan. She is an active member of Amnesty International which is a Pakistani peace initiative in the aftermath of the

Mumbai attacks and is also the vice chair (Punjab) of the Human Rights

Commission of Pakistan. She has been awarded Pride of Performance in 1999 in light of her innumerable When the heartbreaking destruction left by the Kashmir earthquake of 2005 led to the opening

services to the nation

of several crossing points on the line of control to make humanitarian aid efforts easier, Salima Hashmi released Rain 1 encapsulating hope and steps towar ds peace¡

Art converts expression from its ro: west form into a tro: nscen ded version so t hat a pt inting, t1 story, a poem, a theatre performance, a song or a film sometimes say everything humanity has been

missing. This is how art gets its phenomena l powers of turning the tides of history and this is also how art gets t o shoulder the enormous responsibil ity of making sure the tide keeps turning and that expression stays out in the open. Unchained and unguarded. We believe Salima Hashmi has seen to that.

LEO The effect of the Uranus/Pluto aspect could result in a transformation of your life through love and passion, it could mean a transformation in the lives of your children, if you have them, or you could feel a surge of artistic inspiration that sends your life in a new direction. But since Uranus is in the area of your chart connected with jointly owned property and shared resources, these areas of your life may also be undergoing a major change. The combined influence of Uranus and Pluto wants to force a transformation in your life, either by way of a change of locality, or where your workplace or your health and diet is concerned. Changes need to be made and if you make the effort, you will succeed. A sudden need for freedom could result in an over-reaction on your part that you will later regret, so control your irritation if you can, in the knowledge that the situation will look very much better by the end of June 2018.

There has been much planetary emphasis where your income or personal property issues are concerned over the past month or so and the current Uranus/Pluto align ment suggests that if you really push for what you want now, you will succeed in a way that will transform your life. The New Moon early in the month indicates that you can make a fresh start in a matter connect ed with your home and family and with Venus in this area of your chart for most of the month, home life will feel great. Unfortu nately, however, Venus often means that you spend more than you should on home improvements or decoration! The influence of the Uranus/ Pluto alignment this month suggests some sort of transforma tion in your life, in your attitude or in the way in which the world sees you. Uranus in your sign heralds a period of sudden changes, much of which you will have already experi enced over the past year or so. And as the month progresses , so a tense aspect between Saturn and Uranus finds you kicking against the perceived limitations of your freedom. You are likely to be restless and somewhat irritable, needing more air or space, which could result in conflict with others. The situation improves by the end of the month, however, when the Full Moon sees a resolution to a matter concerning your closest relationships.

AQUARIUS The New Moon in your sign early in the month suggests that new beginnings are possible for you and certainly, the aspect between Uranus, your ruler, and Pluto, suggests trans formational changes in your life where income or property are concerned. Our bodies were designed to move, and staying active help move things along inside our organism as well. But if you can't exercise to a point where you can sweat, just g o sit in a sauna. But don 't g o to a sauna every day because you 'll dam age the skin cells fast if you expose them to extreme heat daily. Try once a week instead.

Cabbage, broccoli, carrots, Brussels sprouts, and all colorful vegetables are a great source of nutrients. Besides, these can b e used in different detox recipes to derive their full benefits.
