Vega Baja criminal gang dismantled
national Police and Customs officials have joined forces to dismantle a criminal organisation dedicated to the cultivation, sale and distribution of narcotic substances and tobacco smuggling.
in coordination with the national Police, it was discovered that the tobacco smuggling was just the tip of the iceberg, and the gang also produced marijuana through ‘indoor’ plantations and were involved in international drug trafficking.
the gang distributed the narcotic substance to european countries (mainly the netherlands) using vehicles equipped with camouflaged spaces where the drugs were hidden for transportation.
Police raids were carried out in five towns; torrevieja, Pilar de la horadada, orihuela and Molina de segura, and resulted in the arrest of nine people, six of spanish nationality and three of Polish nationality.
Police confiscated 5,000 kilos of tobacco leaf, 300 marijuana plants, 900 grams of buds and 800 grams of cocaine have been intervened. in addition, 14,000 euros in cash, five vehicles, a compressed air gun, razors, knives, false registration plates and various equipment used for the operation of the dismantled plantation have been seized.
Firefighters protest against new Service
the regional government has rubberstamped a new emergency response unit, which will deal with incidents across the Valencian Community. it will be made up of firefighters and forest fire specialists, but its formation has been opposed by all of the region’s fire unions. they claim it is a waste of money and will hinder coordination during emergencies. the firefighters believe that the new unit will cover functions already carried out by firefighters and so is a waste of resources.
nearly 200 firefighters from the three provincial consortiums (Castellón, Valencia and alicante) gathered at the doors of the Marqués de rafalPalace in orihuela - headquarters of the GeneralitatValenciana – where the approval meeting was taking place.
the firefighter had been gathering since early morning, wearing helmets and vests, while carrying red smoke flares, banners, drums, and loud whistles. their point was made clear by shrill sound of fire tender sirens.
the members of the Consell had to enter through another access door to the palace, eggs were thrown at the regional President,Ximo Puig,
who had to be protected by national Police officers. the Minister of Justice, Gabriela bravo, she will meet with representatives has said that she will meet with representativesof the three provincial consortiums so that “they can learn first-hand about the project and discuss concerns”.
the new response unti is a longterm project announced in september 2020. the decree went on public display in January 2022. it is expected to be a unit similar to the spanish uMe, with thousands of troops with the technical and logistical capacity to face any catastrophe. the regional president defended the urgency of this initiative after a year marked by dana, the ‘Gloria’ storm and the coronavirus pandemic.

Ministry of health. the new additions are said to be “considerably reducing the average waiting time, placing it at historical lows across the department.” the average wait to be treated in local primary care health centres is 4.85 days - with some centres having a much lower average waiting time.
Following on from the recent meeting between police and local residents in response to a wave of break-ins in rojales, benijófar and Fomentera del segura - a suspect has now been arrested. a 32-year-old spanish man, with a lengthy police record, was put before the court in orihuela accused of burgling 23 homes.

the Councillorfor innovation announced that the City Council has started a campaign so that people who do not have the digital certificate can
High oil prices boost Repsol’s profits
spanish energy giant repsol said its 2022 net profit soared on the back of higher oil prices, enabling it to boost investments into mainly greener power sources.
the company posted an annual net profit of 4.25 billion euros ($4.55 billion), up from 2.5 billion in 2021, despite “a year marked by uncertainty, volatility, and complex market dynamics due to the invasion of ukraine.”
european gas prices jumped by a factor of 15 during the summer to hit 350 euros per megawatt hour, but they have dropped sharply since then.
obtain it at certain times from the ProP (next to the City Council) from 4pm to 7pm tuesdays and thursdays.
Meanwhile, inmaculada Montesinos reported that starting Friday, 17th February, the department of Census and statistics is providing a new telephone appointment service to residents, by calling 607 822 861, between the hours of 9am and 12 noon Monday to Friday.
the company said gas and oil prices “rose sharply during the first half of 2022” due to sanctions imposed against russia over its invasion of ukraine which boosted its bottom line.oil and gas firms around the world including shell and Chevron have reported blockbuster earnings due to soaring energy price in the wake of the war.
brent crude flirted with $140 per barrel last March and
the surge in energy prices mechanically drove profits higher without energy firms having to invest in more production or cut costs.repsol said the higher earnings had allowed it to boost investments in 2022 by 40 percent over the previous year to 4.18 billion euros, mainly in spain and the united states.the bulk of its investments were in low-carbon technology needed to reduce planet-warming emissions.
the company said it plans to make “historic” investments of over 5.0 billion euros in 2023. repsol said it will also use its higher cash flow to raise its cash dividend by 11 percent to 0.70 euro per share and buy back 35 million additional shares.
the hefty profits earned by
oil and gas firms come as many households are struggling to pay soaring energy bills, creating a political headache for those in power.spain’s leftist government has imposed a windfall tax on energy companies in 2023 and 2024 to raise funds for measures to mitigate the impact of high energy costs and inflation, especially on low-income households.
“the social debate on corporate profits must be put in context,” repsol’s chief executive Josu Jon imaz said.
“Populist messages only serve to hinder business activity, provoke distrust in investors, reduce investment and economic activity, reduce tax collection and put industrial employment at risk,” he added. repsol said it had earmarked over 500 million euros last year to provide fuel discounts at its service stations in spain.

the new routes include: belfast (united Kingdom), Fez (Morocco), Frankfurt hahn and Paderborn (Germany), Lodz and Warsaw (Poland),
Klagenfurt (austria), rome Fiumicino and turin (italy) and santander (spain).
the low-cost airlines in investing 200 million to expand routes from the city’s Miguel hernadez international airport from 1st april to 30th september in what is described as ‘the
company’s biggest summer schedule in its history at alicante’. the carrier has been operating from the airport for 16 years.
according to Cabrera this places
alicante airport in ryanair’s top five in spain, along with Madrid, barcelona, Palma and Malaga. the 80 new

Spain sees 15 percent rise in food prices
Prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages in spain have risen by 15.4 percent year-on-year in January, according to data issued by the national statistics institute (ine). and the figures show food prices in January rose by 0.4 percent compared to december.
inflation continues to be a major issue for consumers since the ukraine war began almost a year ago, despite the spanish government taking action to reduce or eliminate iVa on basic foodstuffs. however, spain’s Ministry of economic affairs said that if only the prices of foodstuffs with reduced or eliminated iVa are taken into account, a fall of 1.6 percent compared to december
can be observed. Figures show that the price of bread has fallen by 0.2 percent, milk by 1.5% and eggs by 1.5%, comparing January to december.
other foods currently with zero iVa also saw their prices fall for January, according to the ine figures. these show that fresh fruit fell 4.2 percent in price, potatoes -1 percent, flour -2.3 percent and cheese -0.7 percent. in addition, the reduction of Vat from 10 percent to 5 percent on olive oil led to a reduction in its price of 1.2 percent and that of pasta by 3.5 percent.
spain’s consumer price inflation rose more than initially estimated in January, largely driven by the increased food
costs, final data from the ine also revealed.
the consumer price index climbed to 5.9 percent year-onyear in January, faster than the 5.7 percent gain in december. in the initial estimate, the rate of increase was 5.8 percent.
Likewise, eu harmonised inflation increased in January, to 5.9 percent from 5.5 percent a month ago. the inflation rate for January was revised up slightly from 5.8 percent.
underlying consumer prices, excluding energy and unprocessed food, advanced at a faster pace of 7.5 percent in January after rising 7 percent in the previous month, as estimated.

Trans law and abortion reform
the spanish parliament has approved legislation expanding abortion and transgender rights for teenagers, while making spain the first country in europe that will entitle workers to paid menstrual leave.
the driving force behind the two laws is equality Minister irene Montero, who belongs to the left-wing party unidas Podemos (united We Can), the junior member in a government coalition led by the socialist Party (Psoe). the changes to sexual and reproductive rights mean that 16 and 17year-olds in spain can now undergo an abortion without parental consent. Period products will now be offered free in schools and prisons, while state-run health centres will do the same with hormonal contraceptives and the morning-after pill. the menstrual leave measure allows workers suffering debilitating period pain to take paid time off.
in addition, the changes enshrine in law the right to have an abortion in a public hospital. Currently more than 80 percent of termination procedures in spain are carried out in private clinics due to a high number of doctors in the public system who refuse to perform them, with many citing religious reasons.
the abortion law builds on
legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming spain into one of the most progressive countries in europe on reproductive rights.
Transgender Rights
a separate package of reforms also approved by lawmakers recently has strengthened transgender rights, including allowing anyone over 16 years old to change their legally registered gender without medical supervision.
Minors between 12-13 years old will need a judge’s authorisation to change, while those between 14 and 16 must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.
Previously, transgender people needed a diagnosis of

Six arrested, seven to go – NCA launches renewed appeal to trace Most Wanted fugitives
the national Crime agency and partners have renewed an appeal to help trace some of the united Kingdom’s Most Wanted fugitives.
twelve months ago the nCa launched its most recent appeal to find 13 men who had gone on the run – all believed to be hiding in spain or with strong links to the country.
in that time, six wanted men have been traced, arrested and are at various stages of the extradition and judicial process.
the appeal - run in conjunction with independent charity Crimestoppers, spanish law enforcement, and uK policing - is renewed.
the wanted men are:
heavily tattooed Jack Mayle, 31, on suspicion of supplying Class a drug MdMa and other drugs.
Mayle was suspected of running a drug line in south London and allegedly worked with a dark web drugs supplier.
When he fled, Mayle, who is from Croydon in south London had a tattooed neck, a diamond tattoo under his left eye and ‘Croydon’ inked on the outside of his left forearm.
he may have tried to alter his appearance and is known to carry weapons.
two men from Cardiff are wanted by south Wales Police for Class a drugs offences allegedly organised on the encrypted communications platform encroChat.
Muscularly built asim naveed, 31, and 6ft 2in tall, is accused of playing a leading role in a highly organised crime group (oCG) that trafficked 46 kilos of cocaine into Wales between February and June 2020, worth up to nearly £8m.
Calvin Parris, 33, who has gold upper teeth, is accused of being a customer of naveed’s oCG and selling cocaine on in
Cardiff.
John James Jones, 32, of ormskirk, Lancashire, is wanted for wounding with intent. Jones allegedly stabbed two victims with a knife causing serious injuries.
it is believed he fled the uK in the immediate aftermath. there is information to show he stayed at a hotel in Madrid the night after the stabbings, but left rapidly the next morning. also sought is Callum Michael allan, 24, of south shields, for 12 alleged offences including: possession with intent to supply heroin and cocaine, possession of cannabis, assaulting an emergency worker, affray and dangerous driving.
on 11 June 2019 police raided a house suspected to be used for drugs deals. allan fled and assaulted two officers who restrained him. he was in possession of 113.29 grams of heroin. he was charged and appeared at court in april 2020 where he was given unconditional bail and failed to return.
Mark Francis roberts, 29, of Liverpool, is wanted for alleged grievous bodily harm and the attempted robbery of a man’s £60,000 richard Mille watch.
the victim was attacked by two men with a blade at around 1.30am on 30 september 2016 after he parked his car on his home driveway.
the victim refused to surrender his watch and was so badly injured he suffered life-threatening injuries and was treated in a critical care unit for puncture wounds, a collapsed lung and many lacerations.
the victim heard one of the attackers say he’d cut himself in the attack, and roberts’s blood was later identified at the scene.
alex Male, 30, of Weston-super-Mare, is alleged to be a regional distributor of
drugs across the south west of england, buying and selling drugs and managing other distributors who operated under his instruction using encroChat. he is accused of conspiracy to supply cocaine and ketamine, money laundering and conspiracy to acquire a firearm.
he has links to spain, Portugal and turkey.
steve reynolds, nCa regional head in spain, said: “spain is immensely popular with british people who live and take holidays there, but it is not a safe haven for criminals.
“the nCa’s international Crime bureau and international Liaison officers work with foreign law enforcement on behalf of uK police forces to track and arrest criminals wherever they are in the world.
“it’s usual for fugitives to continue to commit crime while on the run and these men will be known in criminal
circles wherever they are and some will be trying to blend in to the large british communities for whom spain is home.
“you may know one of them from your town or village. Loyalties change over time and we urge anyone with information about these men to help us find them.
“the uK and spain have a very strong law enforcement partnership and dayin day-out we work together to protect the public.
“this partnership has been crucial to many of the successes we have had so far in tracking down fugitives from justice in the uK.”
Lord ashcroft, founder of the charity Crimestoppers uK, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the public for supporting our joint campaign with the nCa.
“by passing on vital information, their actions have helped catch wanted
individuals who pose a genuine danger to our communities.
“if you know the whereabouts of any of the remaining Most Wanted fugitives, please tell our charity. We’re available 24/7, so contact us either online or on the phone. your personal details will never be asked for.”
anyone with information about one of the Most Wanted should call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or fill out an anonymous online form at the uK charity’s website Crimestoppers-uk.org.
Callers in spain should dial the freephone spanish number 900 926 111, which will be answered by Crimestoppers in the uK (using translation if required).
We encourage anyone living in or visiting spain to visit the nCa and Crimestoppers websites and look at the individuals who are Most Wanted.

Council installs intelligent traffic signs at various points of the city
Councilman Local Police, Mobility and traffic, Federico alarcón, reports that there are already operating intelligent traffic signs in order to increase road safety at some points in the city of torrevieja. in this way, they have been placed in different locations of avenida Gregorio Marañón and avenida desiderio rodríguez, among others.
these are light signals that are activated by sensors, which send a signal when they detect the passage of a car, either numerically or with icons, so the driver receives the necessary information and warnings. in addition to improving people’s safety, smart signs are more sustainable and economical, as they operate using solar panels.
Pedagogical radars are particularly suitable for influencing drivers’ behavior and making them moderate their speed, making them aware that they are exceeding speed limits in areas that are especially sensitive to inappropriate speed, such as urban environments, proximity to pedestrian traffic, schools, etc. specifically, they have begun to be installed on

uK data has largely exceeded estimates of late, with stronger employment and (some) growthhelping to banish the recent slew of pessimistic forecasts. the latest inflation data also reflected further softness, with headline inflation declining by 0.6% over the past month, having been expected to have dipped by 0.4%. that helped to bring the yearly print down to 10.1%, from 10.5% previously. there was also a beat on the Core data, slipping back below 6% (5.8%) on a yearly basis. similar gains were to be had for Producer Price inflation (PPi). Whilst inflation still remains frothy, the steady declines may help to determine a shallower path for rate hikes from the boe, given the delicate uK economic outlook.this (Friday) morning has also seen the release of the latest uK retail sales data, and having declined by 1% (MoM) previously, there was a decent bounce back of 0.5% during January, ahead of a 0.3% gain expected.
on the political front, the sudden and unexpected resignation of scotland’s first minister, nicola sturgeon this week, puts some obvious strains on scotland’s independence movement, and leaves a vacuum in her party, given her longevity and a lack of obvious replacements. however, the news did not impact the pound, which has had an interesting week. GbP/usd had initially rallied back from 1.2000 to over 1.2250 on the back of those stronger than expected uK data releases, however, the powerful combination of a super-strong dollar (see usd) and softer uK inflation, helped to drag the pair to back below 1.2000 toward the end of the week.
amongst key data released in the uK next week, the latest s&P Global/CiPs services PMi will be the one to watch, with the latest estimates calling for a drop to 48.3 from 48.7.
GBP / EUR U P dat E
EURO
Much the same as the pound, the single currency has had a sideways and slightly less volatilebackdropfor the most part, with eur/ usd remaining+/-100pips of 1.0700 throughout the week. stronger than expected regional employment data further highlighted improving conditions, with a 1.5% yearly increase amongst headline payroll gains. regional growth data also matched the preliminary reading, rising by 0.1% in the final quarter of last year, and marking an overall increase of 1.9%(yoy). on the downside, the latest industrial Production figures missed, slipping by 1.1% through december, and 1.7% on a yearly basis. Markets had been expecting declines of around 0.8 and 0.7% respectively.in her latest speech, eCb head Christine Lagarde reiterated her desire to raise rates by 0.5% at the forthcoming eCb meeting, but the ‘news’ had little impact on the single currency, given that markets have understandably remained far more fixated on what the eCb will be doing after this meeting. this came afterLagarde’s previous suggestion that the eCb will be monitoring the impact of the cumulative rates hikes on the regional economy, before deciding on their next move. it is also fair to say that data throughout the region has probably been softer of late, which has coincided with broader increases in energy prices. not the best of combinations. amongst the key data releases next week will be the latest regional inflation readings, as well as the latest regional and German ZeW surveys. as for that single currency, well in the long-run analysts still remain optimistic on the single currency, however, the resurgent greenback and rising expectations for future Fed rate hikes, makes the outlook for eur/usd now look more uncertain. GbP/eur has drifted between 1.1200 and 1.1300 for the most part, lacking clear directional bias.

Reconstruction of building devastated by the earthquake of 1829
María Gómez, Mayoress of almoradí, José antonio Latorre, Councillor for tourism, and José ramón González, deputy for architecture have visited the house at Calle La reina, number 33, a very special building as it is one of the last social housing that were delivered after rebuilding the town, devastated by the earthquake of 1829. the reason for the visit is that in a few weeks work will begin on the recovery of this house to later use it as a Memorial Museum space of the earthquake of 1829, “a first phase that is launched, and that in a few days will be in tender, through a grant from the Provincial Council of 216,750.93 euros, 90% of the work, whose differential will be contributed by the City Council, covering the total amount of 240. 854.37 euros,” said Gonzalez, who added that “it is about adding value to the architectural heritage of this province, in this case recovering a house, which in this day and age, is part of a relevant historical fact, and that will reveal an important part of the history of almoradí and its reconstruction after the earthquake”.
the mayoress of almoradí has highlighted the importance of starting this project that we were considering about 4 years ago with the purchase
of this house, “it gives us the possibility of rebuilding and preserving it to always remember that moment that for almoradí is fundamental, that it remains in the memory of all the neighbors. now we are going to start with these works, in a first phase, in which we recover the house, to give way to the second phase of turning it into a real museum, since we have to build cities of the future but without losing sight of our past and our history”, given the current situation with the recent earthquake experienced in syria and turkey, María Gómez, wanted to emphasize that the emergency Plan for earthquakes is also being finalized “with which we will have all our emergency plans up to date”.
the mayor of tourism has pointed out that the rehabilitation of this house will mean having a new museumexhibition facility, which will join the existing ecoMuseum and the adolfo suarez exhibition hall on the first floor of the town hall.
as José antonio Latorre has documented “the earthquake of March 21, 1829 was the most important seismic event of the last 500 years, almoradí was destroyed, with more than 200 victims,
without counting the rest of the population, injured, victims or orphans. From that moment on, almoradí had to be rebuilt. the first spanish civil engineer, José agustín de Larramendi, drew up the guidelines for this reconstruction, thus building the first social housing. until that time, the spanish Crown had not supported any undertaking related to the construction of social housing. “until the royal order of 1853, there is no record of the state financing social housing,” he assures. “therefore, the reconstruction of almoradí was the test of what in the future would be the social housing and this house is one of them, of those that were delivered to the poor,” he stresses.
as can still be seen, the houses stood out for their low height and for the strength of their interior walls, “rarely had a new town been built and designed so that it would not perish again in the face of a new earthquake”, said the mayor who said that it is a matter of pride to start this project with the three houses that still exist in the street La reina, which come from the plans of Larramendi, being the number 33 which by its qualities, and already owned by the municipality, will be the reason for space to publicize a historical fact in a project of regional scope.

difficult for people to settle here, there’s the main reason; that you and your husband are too old, and are in ill health. You tell me that you are afraid to lose your grandson if you don’t comply; something that your daughter put
you through many times when you did not agree to her bidding. But this is not a healthy relationship if you are under their thumb. You detail your ailments to me; if possible, get a letter from your Doctor explaining that you should not take on any work or stress.
Our grandson dropped a bombshell recently saying that he wants he and his partner to move to Spain, and wants me and my husband to help look after their baby. His job is one that he can work remotely, so he only needs a computer. His partner does not work, but he says she will get some bar work. This is something I do not want; my husband has left it to me to deal with it because he hates to disappoint the family. We are in our early 80s and not fit to look after children, let alone small babies. We practically brought up our two grandsons because their mother cared only about material things, had a bad marriage and was never there for them emotionally. My grandson has always said he regards me and his grandfather as his parents. He is also asking for the money they need, to show they qualify to move here. I have made all sorts of excuses so far, but they don’t seem to be working. It’s time to stop making excuses, and tell the truth. “What is ChatGPT? I saw a news item and it looks very interesting?” so far, i have found and used ChatGPt and talkGPt ChatGPt is a natural language processing technology developed by Microsoft that enables users to communicate with ai-powered chatbots. it uses a deep learning model to generate human-like responses to user queries and is capable of understanding and responding to complex conversations.

ChatGPt can be used to build chatbots for customer service, virtual assistants, and other conversational applications. there is no official ChatGPt app for android devices. however, there are a lot of apps that mimic the functionality of ChatGPt.
“talk GPt ” likely refers toa stateof-the-art ai language model that has been trained on a massive amount of text data to generate human-like text. it is capable of performing a wide range of language tasks such as answering questions, translating text, and generating creative writing. in either, you can ask questions and get an answer within seconds. i researched the “spanish Civil War” and got a very informative response. you can also use text to ask a question. the android app talkGPt is available and gives good results. the free versions only give limited amount of text. the paid versions give full explanations of any questions. Google is also producing a similar system to ChatGPtthat they call bard.

Driving in Spain with
Tunnels and Underpasses
traffic laws must be strictly adhered to in tunnels or underpasses on account of the increased risk factors involved in this type of road route, with attention specifically to such matters as using headlights, observing speed and safe distance requirements and not stopping, parking, changing direction or reversing.
When approaching most tunnels, a blue rectangular sign provides some key information about the tunnel, such as the name and the length, as well as details about emergency help points within.
the speed limit in tunnels is controlled with the r-301 mandatory maximum speed limit sign (a red circle with the speed limit in the centre), although many also have an advisory maximum speed limit, indicated by the s-7 blue square with white numbers.
before entering the tunnel, we will also see the r-413 sign, a blue circle with a headlight pictogram in the centre, telling us that it is always mandatory for us to use headlights.
there may be other signs on the entry to tunnels such as the r-306 which prohibits heavy goods vehicles
over 3,500 kg from overtaking. some tunnels have indicators above the carriageway which shows if the lane is open or closed. this is sometimes by means of a standard red or green traffic light and sometimes by means of a green arrow or red cross. these indication signs must always be observed. all signs, whether fixed or temporary, visual, or audible, must always be adhered to.
in tunnels or underpasses where the traffic flows in both directions, overtaking is prohibited, unless an additional lane or lanes are provided for this.
a safe distance must always be maintained from the vehicle in front, with a minimum of 100 metres being required between each vehicle, the equivalent of a 4 second gap. some tunnels have markings on the lanes to assist in keeping this distance. For those with no markings the four second gap can be monitored by counting the time between the vehicle in front of you passes a fixed point and the time it takes your vehicle to pass that same place.
in the case of vehicles with a
maximum authorised mass exceeding 3,500 kg, the safe distance is increased to at least 150 metres or a minimum interval of at least 6 seconds.
tunnels of some length will have pedestrian exits and help points which are for use in emergencies only. the exits are indicated by the universal emergency exit signs of a pictogram of a figure about to leave a door, and often accompanied by the words “salida” or “salida de emergencia”.
the location of the closest emergency point is indicated by arrows on the wall of the tunnel. in the event of an emergency access point being in both directions, often a larger arrow
will indicate the direction to the nearest emergency point or exit, which may be in front or behind. in the event of being involved in an emergency in a tunnel, you must: switch off the engine, switch on emergency hazard lights and leave your vehicle lights on. if the emergency makes it impossible for the vehicle to continue, try to steer the vehicle to the area reserved for emergencies in the direction of travel, such as the hard shoulder if available, or an emergency layby. in the absence of these features, you must try to stop your vehicle as close as possible to the right side of the edge of the roadway. use your emergency triangles or emergency warning light to indicate your vehicle is creating a hazard. all vehicle occupants must leave the vehicle and proceed to the nearest evacuation emergency exit. in case of fire, the driver must make every effort to ensure vehicles do not block the path of the emergency vehicles attending. turn off the ignition, leaving the key, and leaving the doors unlocked. all vehicle occupants must leave by the nearest available exit in the
opposite direction to the fire. hopefully, our passage through the tunnel will be without incident and as we leave the tunnel, we will see more signs. as well as the s-6 sign indicating the end of the tunnel and subsequent restrictions, we sometimes a change in the speed limit but always a reminder about our headlights. this s-24 sign is different to the r-413 as it is a blue rectangle which displays a pictogram of the headlights along with a question mark.
Whereas it is mandatory to switch lights on when entering a tunnel, it is not necessarily mandatory to switch them off, as it could be nighttime or during a period of poor visibility, so this sign is an informative version reminding us to check if we need to continue with our headlights illuminate.

If you’re considering buying a left hand drive vehicle in the UK and taking it to Spain to register it on Spanish plates, there are a few things you need to be aware of to ensure a smooth and hassle-free process.
COUNTRY OF FIRST REGISTRATION
In the first instance it’s essential to know in which country the vehicle was first registered as vehicles that were first registered outside of the EU are usually much more expensive to import and in many cases cannot be imported as they don’t have EU type approval and won’t meet the strict emissions & safety regulations for Spain.
EU TYPE APPROVAL
One of the easiest ways to determine if the vehicle was first registered in the EU is to have a look at the manufacturer sticker that’s usually on the door frame or on the slam panel under the bonnet. Along with the vehicle’s VIN number and maximum masses there will also be an EU type approval number that will look like this: e4*2007/46*1259 if the vehicle was made for the European market and first registered there.
BUYING AN EX SPANISH VEHICLE
Even if the previous country of registration was Spain, there’s still no guarantee that the vehicle can be reregistered in your name so it’s always best to use a professional registration company to advise you.
CHANGE OF RESIDENCY
The good news, if you are importing the vehicle as part of a change of residency, is that there are special dispensations available and much of the above does not apply.
STILL FOREIGN REGISTERED
If the vehicle is currently registered in a country outside of Europe you’ll also have to pay customs duty when you register it on to Spanish plates which could render the import not financially viable. This also applies to European but non EU countries such as Norway, Switzerland, Iceland and Liechtenstein
DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED
If the vehicle you are purchasing is already registered in the UK then you will likely be able to re-register it into your own name which should make for an easier import and mean less
taxes are payable, but beware: if the vehicle is still registered in someone else’s name in another country you will almost certainly need the ID docs of the previous owner
COMPLICATIONS
The process of registering a foreign vehicle in Spain can be complex and time-consuming, so it’s important to allow plenty of time and to be prepared for potential delays or
setbacks. You may want to consider hiring a professional registration agent who can guide you through the process and help ensure that everything is done correctly.
Car Registrations Spain S.L. is the leading vehicle registration service of pre-registered foreign vehicles in Spain. If you have a foreign registered vehicle that you would like to register on to Spanish plates
or think we can be of service, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with a member of our team.

Health Department of Torrevieja
The Torrevieja Health Department has made an important organizational and staff recruitment effort to strengthen the primary care teams since the recovery for the department’s public system. The new additions make it possible to offer better care to the Department’s patients and their families.
In primary care, the Department has incorporated 122 new professionals: 46 physicians specializing in family and community medicine, 3 pediatricians, 57 professionals under the direction of nursing and 16 new orderlies.
“These data reflect the significant recruitment effort at a time when the pressure of care and the lack of professionals at the national level is not easy,” explained the manager of the department, José Cano.
The new incorporations are considerably reducing the average waiting time, placing it at historic lows for the department. The average wait to be seen in the primary care health centers of the Torrevieja department is 4.85 days. Some centers have an average wait much lower, 1.93 days in Rojales, 1.96 days in Lo Marabú, 1.76 days in Benijófar, one day in Mil
Palmeras, 1.42 in San Fulgencio, 3.34 days in Guardamar, 2.99 days in San Luis (Torrevieja), 3 days in La Mata or 3.80 days in La Loma (Torrevieja), among others.
The manager, José Cano,
has highlighted the “important contractual effort being made, the flexibility of our professionals and their high level of involvement to meet the health demands of the population”.

ARE YOU PREPARED FOR AN EMERGENCY? HELP Vega Baja suggests things to consider…
Are you prepared if there is a family emergency? It´s hard to think about emergency situations and how you will respond but as we all know, life is unpredictable and it’s better to be safe and prepared just in case. Whether it is a death, break-in or other type of emergency, there are things that we can all do to ease the stress that such situations can cause.
It is important for every home to have an emergency list with essential names and numbers – just in case. There is no need to get overwhelmed when creating an emergency list. It doesn’t need to be complicated. The main thing is to take that first step to make your list and share it with those you absolutely trust. A list should also be placed in your home in a safe place, and you should again tell only those you trust where the list can be found.
An emergency list is a physical list of “emergency information”. However, it could also be stored digitally. It can be small and refer to your healthcare wishes (in this case it is important to check with your doctor to see if there are any official documents
required to accompany your healthcare request). It could also be more complex and in-depth, including information for each member of the family.
An emergency list is not simply the number of your doctor. It is a place to put all the important information you store perhaps in your head, things you do automatically without having to think about it! Passwords, codes, online payments etc. Here are some of the items that you may wish to include:
Doctor, SIP card, Health Insurance, special conditions and medications, personal ID (TIE,NIE,SIP card and passport numbers), Local contact of someone who you trust and can be called upon quickly to help, Funeral policy contacts, next of kin, work contacts, utility companies, Pet veterinarian, banking, power of attorney,
deeds of property/rental agreement/will, home/car insurance, UK state pension, private pensions etc…
For all these matters, contact details, policy numbers and passwords are needed. Obviously, it is VERY important that only those whom you trust should be provided with this information.
At HELP Vega Baja we hear frequently of cases where someone has absolutely no idea where to start because their partner “did everything” and it takes considerable time and stress to work their way through what can be years of paperwork. Particularly at times of loss, please help loved ones by ensuring they know at least the basics to take away some of the stress that inevitably occurs in an emergency. HELP Vega Baja have many information sheets on their website www. helpvegabaja.com including one with a suggested Emergency Sheet.

DGT Procedures at the Post Office
Historically, in Spain, when carrying out administrative functions such as those related to driver or vehicle licences in Spain, they could only be done in the offices of the DGT, which are few and far between, were always busy, and were a bit of a nightmare for anyone who had to attend.
A telephone service was introduced, then an online virtual office, now the MiDGT app, but many of us still like the face-to-face contact, but would rather not have the hassle and inconvenience of visiting the Trafico offices, which is precisely why the DGT formed a collaboration agreement with Correos, so a number of procedures can be carried out at the post office.
We have spoken a lot about eco stickers, and this is perhaps the most obvious collaborative element with Correos, as the eco stickers are available from the post office, subject to availability of course.
If you have lost or damaged
the vehicle’s logbook, Permiso de Circulación, you can obtain a replacement from the post office. You can obtain the necessary documentation from the DGT website, complete it, and take it to the post office, along with the fee, and they will submit the application for you, registering where you want the new logbook to be sent, and issuing you with a temporary permit.
If you are considering buying a car second-hand, we always advise that you obtain a vehicle report first. Two different reports are available, a basic one, and one that is more in-depth, which is the one we recommend. They can be obtained from the DGT website, but you can also get these at the post office, where they will issue the report on the spot.
On the same subject, the notice of sale of a vehicle can also be done at the post office. This procedure offers a secure way of ensuring that
any subsequent fines after the sale are directed to the new owner, for example.
The change of ownership of a vehicle or moped can also be done through Correos, without having to go to the Provincial Traffic Office. There are
other fees which must be paid before this process is started at the post office, namely the Impuesto de Transmisiones Patrimoniales (IPT), a property transfer tax associated with a vehicle sale.
As well as the procedures being available online via the DGT’s virtual
office, Correos also offers the ability to carry out these procedures via their website, correos.es. Depending on the process you will be following, there will be a need to upload certain documents, and pay the corresponding fees online.

Common Questions about the European Accident Report Form
We have been talking a lot about the European Accident Report Form, or “parteamistoso”, a so-called “friendly” report that should be completed in the event of an incident without injuries on the road. Now, we are going to answer the most common questions about the European Accident Report Form. Remember, the form should be used in the event of an incident with material damage. It is not valid in the case of incidents with injuries, and the Guardia Civil or Police must complete the report in that case.
What happens if a report is filled out but there has been no incident?
Although it is a private document, it has probative value, since it reflects the circumstances in situ, so what is expressed in it must be considered true, as long as the contrary is not proven. When used to pretend the existence of an incident that did not happen, fraud is committed, a crime that can be prosecuted civilly and even criminally in serious cases.
Can the accident report form be used if the incident has caused injuries?
As we have mentioned, in those cases of traffic incidents with injuries or victims, the report cannot be used, whose application is intended for incidents that only leave material damage to the vehicles involved. If there are injuries, it is necessary to call the respective authority so that they can file the certificate of the incident.
Are there any disadvantages or risks when signing the form?
This document signed by the drivers involved in the incident can be subject to different assessments regarding its
authenticity and validity. As it is usually filled out at the time of the incident, it may reflect the inexperience or nerves of the signatories, so it could contain errors or inaccuracies that later affect the claim. In this sense, it is good to take into account that those involved are not obliged to deliver the document to the insurer immediately, since they have a maximum period of seven days to report the incident to the respective company. This period can be used in favour of drivers to calmly review the content
and verify all the data carefully, without affecting the moment.
Should you sign the document, even if you do not agree with all of its content?
It is in no way advisable to sign this document if you do not agree with its content, since the purpose of this instrument is precisely to record the agreement of the parties regarding the circumstances and data of the incident. If any of the drivers signs it despite disagreeing with something placed on the form, it will make it more difficult for them to claim later. If an agreement is not reached, it is necessary to locate the authorities so that an incident report can be drawn up, in which they will indicate the circumstances of the event. The form cannot be altered once it is signed by both parties.
Why is it advisable to take pictures of the incident?
Even when a form is agreed and signed, photographs are a good support to document the circumstances of the incident and record the details of the damage to the vehicles, their position at the scene, and other aspects of the incident.
What should be done after filling out the form?
Within a period of seven days after the incident, the report must be delivered to the insurance company to meet the requirement of declaring the incident before it, and start the respective processes for compensation.
Subsequently, the insurers will be in charge of the incident valuation, as well as the appraisal of the damages in the vehicles. Subsequently, they will determine the responsibility of the facts, as well as the compensation to which there would be place.
