“Pilar de la horadada, san Miguel, Los Montesinos and Big Astro all hold regular clinics where residents can speak to their representatives about their concerns. Why is this not happening in orihuela Costa?”Peter believes that councillors know that the majority of citizens are not happy about the state of the coast, the lack of resources and infrastructure and so will not sit and discuss problems that they have no answers for. Peter continued: “ the coast is where the majority of the municipal revenue is generated, but it continues tospent on the city, not orihuela Costa. Why should the residents of orihuela Costa continue to be abused in this manner? “there is nothing but total disrespect and disregard for the people of orihuela Costa by their government and its representatives, that much was made perfect clear on thursday.”

Peter said: “in the end it was left to stefan Pokroppa and ray Kearney to try and conduct this ‘none’ meeting. Many residents walked out in disgust, those who stayed were madeto queue up and leave their name and question which would be passed to the councillor.”

one of those was Peter houghton, President of the Party for independence of orihuela Costa. Peter said: “ the meeting quickly descended into chaos as residents who had legitimate questions were rudely spoken to.” it soon became apparent that residents were not ging to be allowed to speak to or ask questions of Councillor Angel noguera nor Fermin gonzalez. neither came into the room, although they were in the building. it was also made clear that each person could only pose one question and that it must be written down to be passed along.

“this is yet another slap in the face to the residents of orihuela Costa who had genuine questions about the state of the coast and the announcement of another large development at the top of the saturday Market opposite the school. “the citizens of orihuela Costa have the right to speak to their representatives in the town hall if they have a complaint or need advice. People had been invited to attend the meeting under the impression that this is exactly why the meeting was being held.

residents from across orihuela Costa flocked to Playa Flamenca town hall on thursday for an open meeting with councillors... or so they thought. the Costa Blanca People was contacted by several people who attended and were furious about the way the meeting was conducted and how people were treated.

Firefighters have finally managed to stabilise the wildfires that has ravaged vast swathes of land in the Valencian Community, allowing officials to lift all remaining evacuation orders. the blaze, which started last Monday near Bejis in the east of the region, has destroyed over 20,000 hectares (50,000 acres) of land and spurred the evacuation of around 2,200 people. reconnaissance flights on sunday showed it “no longer had any active fronts” and can be considered “stabilised”, regional interior Minister gabriela Bravo told reporters. Firefighters said reduced winds, cooler overnight temperatures and higher humidity levels had allowed them to contain the blaze. But the Minister cautioned that temperatures were still forecast to be high at the start of this week, with strong winds that could rekindle the blaze. earlier on sunday Valencia regional president Ximo Puig said all remaining evacuees could return to their homes.

Another major wildfire which broke out last saturday some 200 kilometres (125 miles) further south in the Vall de ebo, near Alicante, has also been brought under control, Puig said. it has ravaged some 12,000 hectares of woods, bushes and farmland.

“now is the time to return to normality, with caution,” he said.

Spain marks Barcelona terror attacks

A ceremony has been held in Barcelona in memory of the 16 people who were killed in jihadist attacks in the Catalan city and the nearby resort of Cambrils five years ago. dozens of people observed a minute’s silence on La rambla boulevard, where on 17th August 2017 a van mowed down pedestrians, leaving a trail of death. As a cellist played a traditional Catalan song, relatives of the victims and officials laid white carnations in front of a memorial plaque marking the spot where the van came to a halt. Among those attending were the president of the Catalan government Pere Aragonès, Barcelona mayor Ada Colau, and spanish ministers raquel sánchez ( transport) and Miquel iceta (Culture). “this date used to be just another day in the calendar. now on 17 August you always wake up with a knot in your stomach,” Colau told public television tVe just before the ceremony. the attacks, which also left 140 people injured, were carried out by a cell made up mostly of young people of Moroccan descent who grew up in Catalonia. they were claimed by the islamic state group. the first attack took place on the famous La rambla in Barcelona, where a truck rammed into passers-by, killing 14 people, mostly foreign tourists. the youngest victim was a three-year-old boy. the driver, who had killed a 30-yearold man to steal his car while fleeing, was shot dead a few days later by the police. several hours after the first attack, five accomplices drove into more pedestrians and stabbed a woman who later died of her injuries in Cambrils, about 100 km to the south. All five suspects were shot dead by police.ina tweet, Prime Minister Pedro sánchez said Barcelona and Cambrils had ‘suffered hate and terror in their streets. ‘Five years later, we remember the victims of these attacks with our sights set on continuing to build a future of peace,’ he said. A spanish court in 2021 found three men guilty of assisting the perpetrators of the attacks and sentenced them to eight, 46 and 53 years in jail. But last month, a court reduced by 10 years the sentences of the two men who had received the longest jail terms. the third convict was granted parole in september 2021.Ahandful of protestors who demand an investigation into the relationship between spain’s intelligence agency (Cni) and the imam instigator of the attack, who had reportedly been a Cni informer, jeered and chanted during the moment of silence and held up signs that read: ‘We demand the truth.’

Spain becomes safe haven for Afghan refugees

8 www.costablancapeople.comCostaBlancaPeople 23rd - 29th August 2022News

When assessing the final destination of asylum-seekers – as has been the case recently with those travelling from Afghanistan and ukraine –spain’s government works out which regions, provinces and towns have the required resources and facilities, and which are most able to cope with additional members of the population or, in some cases, are most in need of more inhabitants.

nearly 300 Afghans who worked with spanish service personnel in the Asian country have arrived in spain with their families, and will be granted refugee status upon application, according to foreign affairs minister José Manuel Albares. Along with secretary of state for Migrations, isabel Castro Fernández, Albares confirmed the safe arrival of a plane chartered from the Pakistani capital of islamabad at the military airbase in torrejón de Ardoz (in the greater Madrid region). A year on from the mass rescue operation that saw Afghan nationals flown to safety after the taliban returned to power – 20 years on from the start of the war when they first entered government – a group made up of support workers, including interpreters, who cooperated with spanish authorities and troops during the nation’s long mission, plus partners, children and other immediate relatives, have been evacuated.Among the family members who have travelled with them are ‘about 15 babies’, Albares and Castro revealed. they had not been left in danger in Afghanistan all this time, however. the group of 294 who arrived in spain this week have mostly been in the neighbouring nation of Pakistan. spain has so far rescued around 3,000 Afghans and resettled them on home turf – about 2,000 of whom were flown to torrejón de Ardoz in the 11 days between 16th and 27th July, 2021, straight from the capital, Kabul. After this, the remaining 1,000 or so have been gradually brought to spain from nearby nations including Pakistan, iran and turkey. Prior to the 294 new arrivals, the last group arrived a month or so ago, Albares and Castro said.As each of the latest incomers entered the air terminal, they were informed about how to seek asylum in spain, and given the opportunity to do so as soon as they got through border control. Advisors on site were from united nations high Commission for refugees and the interior ministry’s Asylum and refuge office. given that the spanish government assumed ahead of their landing that all those on board would want to apply for refugee status in the country, authorities arranged for charities and social support associations to join them in transferring all arrivals to asylum centres. they will then remain in these for the next few months until their applications are processed, although if they are Afghan citizens or legally resident in Afghanistan, it is likely their refugee requests will be approved automatically and fast-tracked, in the same way as their compatriots over the past year and the more recent incomers, fleeing from the ukraine conflict.spain’s Asylum and refugee Council, the red Cross and ACCeM run a number of accommodation complexes for asylum-seekers, and the 32 families which have now reached Madrid have been given rooms in 12 of them. they are expected to be resettled eventually in the greater Madrid region, in the central-Aragón province of Zaragoza, and in the Castilla-La Mancha province of guadalajara, to the north-east of Madrid.

Spain court ruling on dos Santos’ body appealed

A daughter of Angola’s former president Jose eduardo dos santos has appealed a spanish court’s decision which ordered his body to be released to his widow and returned home for burial.dos santos, who ruled the oil-rich African nation with an iron first from 1979 to 2017, died in Barcelona on 8th July at the age of 79 after suffering a cardiac arrest. since then, the question of when and where he will be buried has caused conflict between the Angolan government and his widow, Ana Paula, against some of his adult children. A Barcelona court had ordered his remains to be delivered to Ana Paula and granted authorisation for “the repatriation and international transfer of (his) remains to Angola”.Buthis 44-year-old daughter tchize dos santos filed an appeal, arguing the court did not have the jurisdiction to rule on what was essentially a civil matter, court documents showed. the appeal also argues that dos santos and Ana Paula were separated since 2017 and “did not live in a situation of matrimonial normality”. tchize dos santos has repeatedly said her father wished to be buried in Barcelona where he had mostly lived since stepping down in 2017. she also argues her father’s burial in Angola would be used to favour the current government of Joao Lourenco ahead of crucial elections in the former Portuguese colony on 24thJustAugust.days after his death, a post-mortem was carried out at her request on grounds he died in “suspicious circumstances”. in mid-July a spanish court refused to release his body until the tests were finished and it had been decided to which relative his body would be released. the post-mortem showed he died “a death from natural causes”. the nearly four-decade tenure of dos santos saw members of his family capitalise on the nation’s oil riches while most Angolans remained mired in poverty. When he stepped down in 2017, dos santos handed over to Lourenco, the former defence minister. But Lourenco quickly turned on his erstwhile patron, unleashing an anti-corruption drive to recoup billions he suspected had been embezzled under dos santos, a campaign that has targeted the former president’s family.

A huge megalithic complex of more than 500 standing stones has been discovered in southern spain and archaeologists believe that they could be one of the largest in europe. the stones were discovered on a plot of land in huelva, a province running along the southernmost part of spain’s border with Portugal.spanning about 600 hectares (1,500 acres), the land had been earmarked for an avocado plantation. Before granting the permit the regional authorities requested a survey in light of the site’s possible archaeological significance. the survey revealed the presence of the stones.

“this is the biggest and most diverse collection of standing stones grouped together in the iberian peninsula,” said José Antonio Linares, a researcher at huelva university and one of the project’s three directors. it was probable that the oldest standing stones at the La torreLa Janera site were erected during the second half of the sixth or fifth millennium BC, he said. “it is a major megalithic site in europe.”Atthesite they found a large number of different types of megaliths, including standing stones, dolmens, mounds, coffin-like stone boxes called cists, and enclosures. “standing stones were the most common finding, with 526 of them still standing or lying on the ground,” said the researchers in an article published in trabajos de Prehistoria, a prehistoric archaeology journal. the height of the stones was between one and three metres. “one of the most striking things was finding such diverse megalithic elements grouped together in one location and discovering how well preserved they were”, said Primitiva Bueno, co-director of the project and a prehistory professor at Alcalá university, near Madrid.

Passengers jump from train

Around 20 passengers have suffered burns, three of them seriously, after they jumped from a train when it was engulfed by a forest fire near Castellón. the train, which had 48 passengers on board, was travelling from sagunto in Valencia to Zaragoza when the driver, seeing that the fire meant it was too dangerous to proceed stopped the train and was preparing to reverse. however, a number of passengers, fearing that the train would be set alight by the flames, panicked and fled after breaking the carriage windows to tescape.hetwo people with the most serious burns were evacuated by helicopter while others, including a young girl of around 10 years old, were taken to nearby hospitals. According to emergency services, a 58-yearold woman is among those who suffered the worst burns after fleeing the train. “once they saw that they were surrounded by fire they got back on the train and several of them had suffered burns,” a spokesperson for the spanish rail company renfe said. the Valencian president, Ximo Puig, said that more than 1,000 people have been evacuated from their homes as high winds fanned the flames in Bejís, Valencia, adding that two firefighters had also suffered burns. Wild fires Valencia is the latest region to experience severe forest fires during spain’s prolonged heatwave that has seen tens of thousands of acres of woodland destroyed.theBejís fire has already consumed 800 hectares (1,900 acres) while elsewhere in the province a fire in the Vall d’ebo continues to burn out of control after razing 11,000 hectares of forest. At time of writing, these flames were still uncontrolled and advancing on three different fronts.the flames are devastating an area of great ecological value and has been categorised as a level 2 as it edges closer to homes in the municipalities of Margarida and Pego. More than 1,500 residents have been evacuated. the blaze covers 80 kilometres and wild animals are trying to escape, but the surface area not affected by the flames is diminishing. there are 140 Army troops are working in the area in support of specialist forest firefighting crews. the high temperatures, the unevenness of the ground and the strong gusts of wind have been quoted as the three main problems faced by the troops in their fight against the fire.

“Finding alignments and dolmens on one site is not very common. here you find everything all together –alignments, cromlechs and dolmens – and that is very striking,” she said, hailing the site’s “excellent conservation”. An alignment is a linear arrangement of upright standing stones along a common axis, while a cromlech is a stone circle, and a dolmen is a type of megalithic tomb usually made of two or more standing stones with a large flat capstone on top. Most of the stones were grouped into 26 alignments and two cromlechs, both located on hilltops with a clear view to the east for viewing the sunrise during the summer and winter solstices and the spring and autumn equinoxes, the researchers said. Many of the stones are buried deep in the earth. they will need to be carefully excavated. the work is scheduled to run until 2026, but “between this year’s campaign and the start of next year’s, there will be a part of the site that can be visited”, Bueno said.

The importance of scrapping your vehicle legally having worked in the scrap business on the Costa Blanca for over a decade, the team at Bradley Breakers could tell us all a horror story or two about people who thought they had scrapped their old car only to find that the car was still registered, and even in some instanes driving around accumulating fines, many months later. there are car owners on the Costa Blanca who have faced large fines after the vehicle they thought they’d dealt with was still driving around. unfortunately, as long as your name remains on the document of ownership you are legally responsible for that vehicle.here in spain the system of scrapping a vehicle is much different from anything you are likely to be used to ireland or the uK. if you also have the added complication of a language barrier it is even more imperative that, when considering disposing of a vehicle, you use a company in which you have complete trust.one such company is Bradley Breakers. they are experts in the field and they can make the whole process simple and uncomplicated. simply make the call, they will make you a cash offer for your vehicle and if accepted they will collect the vehicle on a tow truck from your home ensuring the minimum of disruption and fuss for you. they will then leave you with the necessary legal documentation, indicating that they have taken ownership of your old vehicle and then, once the vehicle has been officially ‘scrapped’, you will be issued with the official dgt Certificate (Baja). do be aware that, if this is something that you are currently considering, you need to ensure that your vehicle is scrapped by 31 december to avoid any further suMABradleybills.

I feel my daughter in law penalises me for not helping out more with the grandchildren. Their other grandma is retired and lives nearer, and so helps out a lot with babysitting and so forth. In return they seem to be gravitating towards that side of the family more. I have mentioned it to my son, who says I am not to worry about it. I am on my own and divorced my husband 20 years ago; he is still in their life but I know they

I have tried inviting them over at weekends when I don’t have to work, but all I get is excuses. My friend suggested just dropping by to see them. I tried it, but it was awful and my daughter in law clearly did not want me there. I am not sure what else I can do. Your son is aware you have a problem, but brushed it aside and told you not to worry about it, but nothing has improved. You could go and see your daughter in law by yourself, and have a chat to her, but you’ll have to keep things light and not lay any blame. If she’s on the edge, any criticism will not go down well, and she could be looking for an excuse to carry further the feud and make things worse. Tell her you realise that because you still work, you can’t help out and enjoy your grandchildren as much as the other granny. Keep it positive, and say that you miss the children and ask what she wants, and for her advice for improving the situation.

JOURNEY BEGINS When you begin your journey, having recently found out you are ill, there is a lot to take in and you are trying to find what works best for you. And you are probably over-complicating things because you haven’t a clue what to do or where to start. suffering from thinning hair is no laughing matter. it’s true when they say that hair is a women’s crowning glory. We all feel self-conscious when our hair starts to thin or we experience hair loss. When you can´t hide behind your hair, what do you do? ....Buy a wig, shave it off or ask a person like me, who has experienced this and has got the t-shirt and wants to show you the fast way to optimise your hair growth. Below are the first steps and the first questions you need to answer:

i work on a one-to-one basis with women who are suffering hair loss through the effects of celiac disease. i don’t believe in using chemicals to encourage hair growth, either by taking tablets or using them directly on the hair or scalp. the system i have developed focuses on optimising hair growth through nutrition, general well-being, massage and growth simulation techniques. i work with a dedicated team of experts that i call in depending on the needs of the individual, but they include specialists in areas such as fitness, time management, life coaching, nutrition and meditation. Your confidence will increase as you start to see your hair grow. You will realise that the changes you have made are just the start of a new chapter in your life. My experiences made me realise that there was a considerable gap in information for ladies experiencing hair loss and that what help and support are available is expensive. using all of the above, i have devised consultation courses aimed at both individuals - women losing their hair due to illness, particularly celiac disease – and hairdressing professionals. register your interest in a bespoke consultation course below and i will get in touch to discuss your needs. i work on an individual, oneto-one basis with women who are experiencing hair loss. this is so that i can tailor my recommendations to you and your specific situation and needs.

TIME taking time out to focus on you isn’t always easy in today’s society - but this is vital if you are going to improve your wellbeing. We women are busy people, often juggling work, relationships, children and homes. however, spending just a little time to connect with yourself will bring big benefits, whether that’s through meditation, exercise, breathing techniques, taking a walk or just relaxing in a quiet corner. i walk everyday for a minimum of 45 minutes, which definitely stops my brain from feeling like it’s going to explode. i find it a calming, cathartic experience, which burns off excess energy and helps me focus on the day ahead.

The councilman of Economy and Finance of the City of Torrevieja, Domingo Paredes, has applied to the Provincial Council of Alicante adhere to the line of granting aid to minimize the economic impact that the energy crisis is assuming on SMEs, micro-SMEs, small self-employed entrepreneurs and professionals in their municipalities for the year 2022. Domingo Paredes informs that this aid is intended to subsidize the energy costs of gas and electricity between April 1 and June 30, 2022, which are necessary for the operation of the business. In addition, fuel expenses between January 1 and June 30, 2022 are also subsidized. The mayor of Economy and Finance has shown that this energy crisis that we are suffering has come at the worst possible time, when businesses were devoting all their efforts to overcome the economic crisis arising from the COVID-19. With this subsidy, added to the one already in place to alleviate business losses and the implementation of the Bono Consumption, can prevent the closure of many businesses and not only maintain jobs, but can also generate new jobs when they are mostFinally, needed.itshould be noted that the municipality of Torrevieja corresponds to the amount of 313,716 euros. In the coming weeks will be announced the publication of the aid and all the procedures to be followed by companies to apply for it.

The assumptions that are established by regulation, provided that the safety of the driver is guaranteed.

As of September 2, a new law will come into force in Spain which that drivers of vehicles of more than 7.5 tons will not be able to participate in loading and unloading operations. The new rules expressly refer to the following:“…inTitle I, some precepts of Law 16/1987, of July 30, on Land Transport Planning (LOTT) are modified. The main novelty is the introduction of the limitation of the active participation of professional drivers in loading and unloading operations of goods and their supports and containers, except in those cases in which, for reasons of efficiency of the operation, but fundamentally due to the safety of the driver, as a consequence of the specific type of transport or the specific conditions in which said activity is carried out, it is justified that he be the one to carry out said tasks. This approach fully respects the agreements between the parties to the contract on who is responsible for carrying out the loading and unloading operations, whether it is the shipper and recipient or the carrier. It aims to protect, however, the most vulnerable part of the process and that suffers the possible effects of the impossibility of the transport companies to negotiate in another direction, as well as a prevention of driver safety that is more formal than material derived from the dynamics specific to the transport market.Theproposed restriction is limited exclusively to those cases in which the intervention of the public authorities is necessary to the extent that significant risks are generated that must be avoided, namely, transport services in environments that imply potential dangers for the safety of the driver. For this reason, considering this measure, it is necessary to configure it as an application rule in all cases of loading and unloading that are carried out in SpanishDriversterritory.”ofgoods transport vehicles with a maximum authorised mass of more than 7.5 tons may not participate in loading or unloading operations of goods or their supports, packages, containers or cages. There are a number of exceptions however, which include:Moving transport and furniture storage.Transport in tank vehicles. Transport of aggregates or carried out in tipping vehicles or equipped with a crane or other devices inherent to the vehicle intended to carry out loading and unloading operations. Transport in vehicle carriers and tow trucks for roadside assistance. Transport of live animals, at approved control posts in accordance with community regulations, without prejudice to the responsibilities established in the regulations on the protection of animals during transport.

‘I get the odd strange comment, saying, “You look old enough to be his mother.” Which makes me want to say, “Well, I am old enough to be his mother, but I’m not!” The age gap is not a thing in our relationship any more. We use it as comedy to make people laugh but we never have to discuss it.’

Nicki Chapman, who was also a judge on the show, tweeted that Campbell Danesh was “a true gent with a kind soul and mischievous tinkle in his eye”. Campbell Danesh initially rose to fame on Pop Idol’s ground-breaking predecessor Popstars on ITV in 2001, with his theatrical cover of Britney Spears’ Baby One More Time. Later that year, he resurfaced on the follow-up, Pop Idol, which concluded in 2002, minus his ponytail and beard and with a new attitude that took him to the last three. The final was watched by more than 13 million people. Myleene Klass, Michelle Heaton and Jessica Pietersen, who also found fame on Popstars, in the bands Hear’Say and Liberty X, shared their memories of him.

‘Despite several attempts to diffuse the situation, the men continued to become more aggressive and started physically attacking Adam. I’m told I look old enough to be his mother - I am! 20% of hypertensive patients fail to comply with their treatment in summer

In summer the blood pressure values are lower than in the Winter months, which is because, with the heat, vasodilation occurs to favor the loss of body temperature, and as a consequence you have a low blood Ifpressure.ahypertensive person is exposed to the sun too much in summer and does not hydrate properly, they can suffer a very serious hypotension that, in severe cases, causes loss of consciousness and fainting. Within hypertensive people, older adults are especially sensitive to heat because the mechanism of sweating is normally impaired and in them it is very likely that heart and kidney problems will occur, so itis more difficult to getrid of excessheat in the body. For thi sreason, Dr. Alfredo Vidal, specialist of the cardiology service of the Hospital Quirón salud Murcia, recommends, before the hot months, to go to your trusted doctor to adjust the anti hypertensive treatment, as well as the Asdiuretics.Dr.Florenciano adds, “not one of the drugs used to treat high blood pressure are diuretics, which, added to the high temperatures of the environment, causes the patient to lose more fluids, which is why it is vitally important that more fluids are taken than usual.” What is most advisable for this type of people at this time of yearis to drink plenty of water, eat fresh fruit and wear light clothing to promote the replacement of liquids that are lost with sweat and thus avoid dehydration or, in more serious cases, heatstroke.

Rest, important in summer. The first objective of the holidays is to rest, but it is frequent that we end up doing the opposite, getting to sleep fewer hours, so that it is not beneficial for our cardiovascular health. Lack of sleepincreasesbloodlevels of stress hormones, which increases blood pressure and heart rate.

Keys so that summer does not become an enemy of your heart Carry the medication on you. Breaking the routine makes us forget to take our medication, since we always associate it with concrete actions such as breakfast, dinner, etc.

Caution with heat. The main causes of mortality during heatwaves are related to cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and respiratory diseases. It is the reason why it is not convenient that we spend a lot of time exposed to thesun in the central hours of theday.

According to Dr. Rafael Florenciano, specialist of theIntegral CardiologyUnit of Hospital Quirónsalud Torrevieja, “all precautions are few to enjoy a few days of rest without setbacks; thus, a por diet with a high load of fats and salt, together with other factors, such as the abuse of tobacco, alcohol and the decrease in sports practice regularly cause a lack of control of blood pressure”.

We mentioned that smoking is not prohibited in most circumstances, but the Spanish Ministry of Health is working on a project that would prohibit smoking in the car when children or pregnant women travel. This idea, which is framed in the Comprehensive Plan for the Prevention and Control of Smoking 2021-2025, aims to increase the number of smokefree spaces in the country. And within these new areas private vehicles would be included. Some people say that this plan does not go far enough, and that smoking should be banned in all private vehicles. We will of course have to wait for the results of the inevitable debates to see the final outcome.

Penalty of 100 euro for distracted driving If you are distracted by smoking, you can face a fine of 100 euro. So, although smoking itself is not prohibited, the actions to carry out the task can be.

Risks of smoking in the car As we have mentioned, currently, under most circumstances, smoking while driving is not prohibited, but the DGT puts this bad habit on the same level as the use of the telephone while driving.Specifically, smoking while driving can multiply the risk of having an incident by 1.5 times. According to various studies, lighting a cigarette while driving involves an average distraction of 4 seconds. During this time and at a speed of 110 km/h, it is possible to cover 120 metres without any control over what we do, with hands occupied and with attention and gaze diverted from the objective, driving. The DGT recommends stopping to smoke

Smoking and Driving

Distractions whilst driving are one of the main contributing factors to road trafficSmokingincidents.when driving, according to the DGT, is one of the most frequent distractions behind the wheel, and it can be just as dangerous (or more so) as using a mobile device while driving. So, although in most circumstances it is not prohibited, at least not yet, the authorities directly advise users not to carry out this practice in the vehicle. Distractions at the wheel according to the DGT To avoid getting distracted at the wheel, the DGT advise us to sleep well before the trip, consume no alcohol, other drugs, or certain medications that can cause dizziness and drowsiness, have light food, if any, and program the GPS or radio before starting to drive. During the journey, do not smoke, stop to rest from time to time, only use your mobile phone in an emergency, and then only when the vehicle is stopped in a safe, and legal place.

Fine for throwing cigarette butts out the car window

It should also be clarified that since the entry into force of the new Traffic and Road Safety Law in March of this year, throwing cigarette butts or other objects that may pose some kind of danger to other road users is considered a very severe offence. Consequently, you will be sanctioned with a fine of 500 euro and the loss of six points on your driving licence.

There is also a risk that you might drop a lit cigarette inside the car, on your legs or on the seat. Since, the scare of suddenly seeing incandescent ash on the body has caused serious trouble to more than one driver. Therefore, a swerve or a mistake inside the vehicle can cause a serious incident and put the safety of other drivers at risk.

a great end to the SaMM Race Season

The final results calculation emphasised what a great, closely fought sailing season SAMM competitors had Thisenjoyed.was despite the fact that, for various reason which included bad weather, other events scheduled at CTD and Covid cases among officials and competitors, the planned 18 races were reduced to just 8. The results show a good distribution of first and second places among the competing boats which emphasised the very close, hard fought competition all through the season. To calculate the final results the points of the worst two race results were dropped for every boat and this gave very tight final scores. Just three quarters of a point separating the winning boat Ginetta from the second placed boat Shoestring Dos and, a quarter of a point separating Dos and the third place boat, Shoestring Uno. The autumn season is scheduled to start on October 9th. To find out everything about SAMM visit www.sailingmarmenor.com

There were times at Elland Road where it looked like Leeds had more players on the pitch than Chelsea - and I’m not just talking about the last ten minutes after Koulibaly didn’t fancy chasing young Joe Gelhardt back towards his own goal.

Here we are again at the end of another Premier League weekend, and you’ll be delighted to note that Manchester United don’t get another match-related hammering todaymainly thanks to the fixture computer throwing them against Liverpool on Monday night which makes it editorially impossible to review their defeat. That said, go back and read last week’s column where they had the day off against Brentford and you’ll find that most of it is probably still but we’ve got Harry Kane scoring more August goals than ever before. We’ve got Jesse’s Leeds Marsching past Chelsea. We’ve got King Klopp going all Sunday league, demanding the points if protests mean the game at Old Trafford cannot be played. We’ve got Eddie wondering Howe he failed to beat a top team again. And we’ve got Arsenal with Jesus leading the almost complete resurrection - bottom after three games last season, top after three this.

a lovely little Paraguayan dish and making him eat them? Yes, siree. Almiron levelled it after Gundogan have City the lead - then ASM dazzled and got the second and Kieran Tripper took as back to that World Cup semifinal free kick as he made it 3-1. That woke the champs up a bit, as they quickly got it back to 3-3 - you know who scoring as well as Contextseason,Premieronedisappear.magic,clearlyindogsheadedknownTonycertainlywearinggoalupMartinCherriesBrazilianchannellingbeatthatwelcomesurelyBernieif-Barca-can-cheat-the-system-againsoon-to-depart-Silva.Grealishwas“injured”incidentally,notavoidingthewarmGeordiehewasguaranteed?MaybeArsenalshouldhavegotdocumentaryoutearlier?TheyBournemouth3-0,GabbyJesushisinnerRonaldo(theoriginal)andrunningpastforfun.ItwasnewskipperOdegaardwhoputthem2-0earlybeforeSalibascoredthebesteverbyaplayercalledWilliamaGunnersshirtever.Youdidn’tseeSolCampbellorAdamsdoingthat.InthegamepreviouslyandbrieflyastheNunoderby,KanethewinnerforAntonioConte’sofwar.HeneverusedtoscoreAugust,remember-theItalianisamagician.Onthesubjectofhe’salsomadeHeung-MinSonIfyou’dofferedDavidMoyesbeingplacelowerthanUnitedintheLeagueatthestartofthehe’dhaveprobablytakenit.isafunnything.TheHammerslost2-0athome

Whilst I playfully suggested Tuchel might be on the verge of quitting Chelsea, I don’t actually believe he will be the first manager to leave his position this term - my money is on one of Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Brendan Rodgers.

Stevie G is under pressure - any manager that convinces his board to sign Philippe Coutinho and then has the start they’ve had is going to be. Villa led at the Palace but then Patrick Vieira (who I tipped to last less time than Frank de Boer I seem to recall) saw Wilf Zaha turn on the afterburners and turn the game around. Palace are a proper side - full of pace, invention and value. Villa, not so much - and they are now trying to sign Watford’s Sarr. That’ll be the manager signing his resignation letter then.

to Brighton and whilst most people would back the Moysiah to figure it all out, he needs to quickly. All the alleged relegation fodder are playing much better than they are.

As for Lampard, he saw the Ev get a late and possibly undeserved leveller against Forest at Goodison Park. If Villa are seeing little return on their big transfer investments, Everton are worse - and if they do flog Anthony Gordon to Chelsea for £50m, you know they won’t spend it that wisely. Spending money wisely? Well, Forest are up to in and around 47 signings this summer and they seem to be gelling relatively well. Brendan Rodgers though, he must be regretting not taking one of the offers that came his way last year. Leicester are the only team in the world not to have made a signing and he had two of his best players out of the side because their heads are being turned by Arsenal and Chelsea. No Tielemans, no Fofana, no win. Southampton won away, and that’s as rare as a Leicester signing.BigMitro is having a lot of fun on the Premier League rollercoaster. He followed up an opening day brace with a penalty miss last weekend, before scoring a late winner against Brentford on Saturday. It was classic Mitro, that far post header. Brentford got quite the reality check having stuffed United last time out - it cannot be that easy every week.

Speaking of United, it is impossible to let a whole column pass by and not reflect on their week. As we know, they have a multitude of problems on the pitch which need to be solved off the pitch with the signing of better players and, ideally, better owners. Plenty of chat happened around both. I’d love to be a fly on the wall in their recruitment meetings, they must be entertaining. Having finally given up on Frenkie de Jong, a progressive passer of a midfield player, they’ve flipped their attention to CasemiroReal Madrid’s 30-year-old destroyer who they will pay big money to sign and big money to play. Is he better than McFred? Of course. Is he the answer? Maybe to one standalone question in the short-term. In the last seven days, United have also been linked to Antony (again), Christian Pulisic, Gapko, Yo-Pierre, Leroy Sane and more. Jamie Carragher nailed it when he said it was like the club bottom in January hitting the panic button and playing supermarket sweep.Interms of ownership, Michael Knighton (the guy who tried to buy the club in the 80s, juggled the ball on the pitch at Old Trafford before realising he didn’t have any money and buying Carlisle instead) claims he is trying to buy United with a group of investors. I’m going to put my neck on the line and suggest that won’t happen.Ineos billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, the guy who missed the deadline for buying Chelsea, has also publicly boosted his profile by saying he’ll buy it - the only issue being, it’s not for sale.Just think, three points against Liverpool and all these problems disappear….

They pressed, they bullied, they probably made Graeme Souness groan with pleasure. Mendy had a bit of a moment which really didn’t help Tommy T’s team but they looked absolutely miles off it. How many games do you think it will take for everyone to agree that Raheem Sterling down the middle isn’t actually much better than Romelu Lukaku? Tuchel ended last weekend raging. He ended this one sounding like a man who might be wondering what the point of it all is under the new owners. There’s been a lot of great PR but when you boil it all down, they’ve bought Sterling to play out of position. They’ve splashed a lot of cash on a 30+ Koulibaly who was prepared to throw the towel in when it all got a bit difficult, knowing full well they have no central defenders. They’ve made Marc Cucurella one of the most expensive left-backs ever, even though they have Ben Chilwell. Boehly et al are keen to make Wesley Fofana the most expensive central defender ever, yet if they cannot get him they are considering making a move for Harry Maguire of all people - no wonder Tuchel sounded like he could happily jack it all in. At this rate, they’ll end up the third-best team in London.Upuntil Sunday, Eddie Howe had an Almiron of a record against any of the top sides. Man City are, as we know, a top side. And by the final whistle, Howe had slightly less of an Almiron against the top sides. But what’s that? Miguel Almiron taking Jack Grealish’s words, creating n CHRIS DARWEN chris@costablancapeople.com
