Orihuela Costa housing debate

A new housing development for 244 homes has been announced for orihuela Costa. the land is next to the go Kart track alongside the n322 and has already been cleared. the developer has had the plans put on display, but the project is being opposed by the owners of some the land. there will now be a one-month consultation period where interested parties can register any objections. however, the news has reopened the debate regarding the number of empty properties already sitting on the coast and the affect of more houses on the already over-stretched infrastructure. pioC recently met with residents, administrators and an association to discuss the development of 85 houses in Calle nicolas de bussiand the impact it would have. Add to this is the off-on development of more than 2,000 houses at Cala mosca and a further 900 on the border of mil palmeras and the concerns increase.peterhoughton, pioC said: “According to the idealista online portal there are just under 4,000 vacant homes on the coastwhy continue building when there is already a massive surplus to sell?” peter added: “We had high hopes in the new unelected mayor, Carolina gracia, and hoped that this could be a new beginning for the coast. unfortunate, it appears the leaderships may change but the biased policies remain the same.” We continue to have sewage running into our streets, wastewater on our beaches, ever spare piece of land sold for development, unemptied bins, poor roads, over-grown parks…the list goes on.”the political party now intends to raise the issue at the next council meeting and ask why it appears that the quality of living for resident of the coast is being diminished for a profit.

iberia express, the low-cost arm of spain’s national carrier, cancelled eight domestic flights sunday as cabin crew launched a 10-day strike for higher wages amid soaring inflation.the walkout, which will run from 28thAugust to 6th september, is expected to involve 92 cancellations affecting more than 17,000 passengers, a spokeswoman for the uso union said. the stoppage comes as spain’s airline sector struggles with rolling strikes by staff at budget rivals easyJet and ryanair.by midday, eight flights had been cancelled but there were no delays, a uso statement said, indicating 1,500 passengers had been affected. iberia express confirmed eight “preventative cancellations”, saying in a statement it had arranged alternative flights or transport for 84 percent of affected passengers, with the rest opting for a refund or vouchers.onFriday, the airline had announced it would cancel 24 domestic flights during the first three days of the walkout, affecting some 3,000 passengers. it did not immediately say how many more flights would be axed beyond those initial dates. uso and the sitCpLA union are calling for a salary increase to compensate for inflation, which in July hit 10.8 percent. iberia express connects madrid with about 40 cities across europe. spain’s national carrier iberia is owned by iAg, which also owns british Airways and ireland’s Aer Lingus. meanwhile, four easyJet flights were also cancelled on sunday as the airline’s pilots observed their third period of strike action this month, the sepLA union said. the cancellations affected flights into or out of barcelona and palma de mallorca in the balearic islands that were coming from or flying to London and geneva. since they began their first three-day strike on August 12, there have been 79 flight cancellations.thepilotsare demanding the restoration of conditions they enjoyed before the pandemic and the resumption of talks for a new collective agreement. their walkout began just two weeks after a strike by easyJet cabin crew which resulted in a deal.

from the yacht club say the ‘security measures are excessive’.they contrast their situation with that of the rialb swamp in Lleida, where tourists have flocked to see it at its lowest-ever water level, but where crowd numbers have been manageable, and also with that of barcelona’s Collserola park – the Vallvidriera lake – where its lack of water has seen visitors leave in droves, as its attraction has always lain in being able to take a refreshing dip and then stopping for a picnic or in a café on the shores.Vilanova de sau’s mayor, Joan riera, is not so optimistic about the ‘drought tourism’ influx.

this summer’s drought has proven a mixed blessing for Vilanova de sau a town in barcelona province and its visitors. the town has seen an unprecedented influx of tourists since the sant romà church reappeared as Catalunya’s reservoirs and lakes drop to an across-the-board 39 percent of their total capacity, some of them losing every drop of water. the town’s lake has completely dried up, uncovering a church that has been underwater for decades.thesau lake, which filled up in 1962 after a dam was built in the river ter, flooding out the dip in the land in the guilleries-savassona nature reserve. the entire church has never emerged before, although in past years during periods of drought, the water reduces enough to show part of the belltower and even the roofs of the now-defuct village of sant romà de sau. however, currently, with the lakebarely 38 percent full, with some parts literally dust, the church has been fully exposed. thousands of people have been travelling from all over spain to see it, thanks to what the town council calls ‘the instagram effect’ and has even led to a whole new genre of holiday being named: ‘drought tourism’. such has been the furore that, from 24thJune and, unless anything changes, until 11th september, visitors must now book one of 90 parking spaces a day to see the church, at a cost of €5, or €2 for motorbikes.

For the first time, awnings are included in various play areas, in addition to all the floors being made of bespoke non-slip, nontoxic and ecological continuous rubber. All areas will have some type of inclusive game for children with different abilities. Two phases in the first phase, the children’s areas of parque de las naciones, parque de la estación, plaza islas Canarias and plaza de La habana will be renovated. the following areas of action will be in La mata: plaza encarnaciónpuchol, plaza perfecta rodríguez, purificación street and “José eduardo gil rebollo” recreational Area. in addition, other newly created play areaare going to be built in: mar Azul-eliseos playa, Los balcones, Los Altos, nueva torrevieja, plaza del Calvario, La mata and La Coronelita.

the department of tourism of orihuela is promoting the gastronomy of the city in the fourth edition of the city’s culinary guide “gastronomic destinations of the province of Alicante” with a double pagein the publication. the section highlights the typical dishes made with local products, from the land and the sea, together with the delicious convent pastries that make orihuela a destination to discover with all five senses.maría garcía, Councillor for tourism, said:“positioning ourselves as a reference gastronomic destination is one of the lines of promotion of our city that we have set for ourselves at the council. in addition, with this action we also add value to the hotels and shops of our city, another of the lines of work that we are carrying out to work together with tourism and different economic sectors of orihuela.” Likewise, the guide highlights the different tourist products that orihuela offers to visitors and that make it an attractive destination for all types of visitors. the text is complemented by six photographs of the Fiestas de la reconquista and moors and Christians, convent pastries, rice with crust, an image of the murals of san isidro with the face of miguel hernández, the facade of the Church of santiago and a panoramic view of the orihuela coast.

Rape laws tightened

Additionally, public transport, hospitals and health centres, among similar areas, do not have to follow the minimum and maximum temperature rules – although airport terminals, bus and train stations do - and private homes are exempt. As for the 19ºC limit in winter, this means the contrast is not so great in relation to outside – and central heating is rare outside northern and high-altitude areas in spanish homes, meaning indoor winter temperatures are unlikely even to be as high as 19ºC. plus, the last thing spanish residents want after sweltering summer months is to be sweating at home in winter, too: A cooler indoor environment comes as

spain has toughened its rape laws, pushing through legislation requiring explicit consent for sex in a move driven by its left-wing government following a notorious gang rape that outraged the country. Known as the “only yes means yes” law, the bill was given the green light by parliament with 205 votes in favour and 141 against after passing its first reading by lawmakers in may. it involves a reform of spain’s criminal code that now defines rape as sex without clear consent.“Consent is recognised only when a person has freely demonstrated it through actions which, in the context of the circumstances of the case, clearly express the person’s will,” it says.“At last our country legally recognises that consent is what needs to be at the centre of all our relationships,” said equality minister irene montero. “no woman will ever have to prove that violence or intimidation was involved in order for it to be considered a sexualuntilassault.”now, rape victims needed to prove that they had been subjected to violence or intimidation.the issue was at the heart of the notorious 2016 gang rape of an 18-year-old woman by five men at the bullrunning festival in pamplona, northern spain. the men — who called themselves the “wolf pack” — were initially convicted of “sexual abuse” and not rape.two of the men filmed the assault, during which the woman is shown silent and passive — a fact the judges interpreted as consent.defined by the absence of violence or intimidation, such an offence carried lighter penalties — but no longer exists in the reformed criminal code. that initial verdict led to huge nationwide protests demanding reform.in 2019, the supreme Court overturned the verdict, convicting all five of rape and increasing their sentences from nine years to 15 years each. socialist prime minister pedro sanchez — a self-described feminist — vowed to introduce a law on consent aimed at removing ambiguity in rape cases when he took office in Junethe2018.new law also tightens the rules on street harassment, expands emotional and sexual education in schools and strengthens protection and compensation for victims of sexual violence. the government says the legislation was based on the recommendations of the 2011 istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women. montero said spain was also inspired by pioneering legislation which came into force in sweden in 2018 which considers as rape any sex act without explicit consent. such laws remain the exception in europe. According to an Amnesty international study, only 12 of 31 european countries it analysed have changed their legal definition of rape to sex without cleartheyconsent.include belgium, Croatia, denmark and sweden.

europe’s move to cut energy use in a bid to reduce its dependency on russian gas, to curb climate change and tackle ever-increasing fuel costs has led to action affecting the high street in spain – but, despite reports in some international press about how tourists will ‘fry in summer and freeze in winter’, the actual impact is set to be minimal.Andsteps taken elsewhere on the continent are at least similar to those of spain or, in some cases, even more restrictive.since a week ago, private- and public-sector buildings – including workplaces, hotels, bars and restaurants – are required to set their summer air-conditioning to a temperature no lower than 27ºC. once winter weather starts in earnest, indoor temperatures must not rise above 19ºC – which, in most of the southern half of the mainland, will involve the same air-conditioning devices as those used to regulate heat and cold in summer, since they double up.mains gas is mostly a northern phenomenon in spain or, where it is found further south, tends to be installed in big cities, since it is used for central heating and cooking; in the southern half of the country, winters are shorter and milder and, even when a deep freeze happens, home heating is typically only necessary for about two or three months of the year, meaning it is rarely worth the upheaval and expense of having gas pipes fitted. For gas hobs, barbecues or ovens, these parts of the country would normally buy butane gas bottles instead.gas is also used to generate electricity, hence the need to reduce power consumption in general. recent headlines in the uK media claimed the new measures would leave ‘british holidaymakers’ sweating in stifling 27ºC indoor heat, but in reality, the minimum summer inside temperature is only 1ºC higher than it has been for over a decade. in fact, a maximum indoor figure of 27ºC – and a minimum of 17ºC in winter – has been enshrined in law for 25recommendationsyears. set approximately 15 years ago, which were strongly advised for employee health and safety reasons even if not legally binding, were that winter temperatures inside premises used by workers and the public should sit at around 21ºC, and in summer, at 26ºC. the reason for higher summer figures is so that the contrast with the outside temperature is not too drastic – walking into a premises at 21ºC in winter is pleasant, but during a heatwave, will see customers shivering. Also, humidity is key: outside temperatures on the coast at 27ºC are fairly warm; in the even-more humid island climate of the uK, 27ºC is sweaty and unpleasant; but in an indoor, airconditioned environment when the outside figure is nearly 10ºC higher, the much lower humidity means the atmosphere is more comfortable.

a blissful contrast. spain was also criticised in the uK press for its decision to reduce lighting in public areas, including turning off night illuminations in shops when they are not in use, and streetlights in areas already well-lit by residential buildings. in practice, shop fronts in spain usually have fixed metal blinds which come down at closing time, completely obscuring any lit-up windows, meaning the effect is likely to be minimal.

Spain energy-savingagrees plan

spain’s parliament has approved the minority government’s energy-saving rules which include limits on air-conditioning use as part of an eu-wide effort to reduce reliance on russian gas. Lawmakers voted 187 to 161 in favour of the decree, which came into effect on August 10 but needed the green light of the assembly to remain in force. socialist prime minister pedro sanchez’s minority coalition government lacks a working majority in parliament, but it managed to pass the rules with the support of smaller regional parties.under the government decree, air conditioning must be turned down and set at no lower than 27 degrees Celsius (80.6 degrees Fahrenheit) during the warmest months of the year, in rules affecting everything from public transport to shops, offices, theatres and cinemas. the new rules do not apply to home air conditioning, although people are encouraged to consume less energy domestically. during the summer months, temperatures across spain often hit 40C or higher. the legislation also affects heating in winter, when temperatures can be set no higher than 19C. the decree also requires that from 10:00 pm (2000 gmt ), shops switch off windowdisplay lighting in a move also affecting the illumination of public buildings. by the end of september, any air-conditioned or heated premises must have an automatic door-closing mechanism installed to avoid energy waste. the main opposition conservative popular party (pp) voted against the measures, calling many of them “improvised” and harmful for the economy. it also complains the new rules were developed without business groups or regional governments which will have to monitorAmongcompliance.themost critical has been madrid’s regional leader isabel diaz Ayuso, a rising star on the political right who has vowed to challenge the measures in spain’s Constitutional Court. “madrid will not switch off,” she said earlier this month in a tweet.the government unveiled details of the energy saving measures in may as part of an eu-wide effort to cut dependence on russia for oil and gas following its February invasion of ukraine. the european Commission is planning to cut eu dependency on russian gas by two-thirds this year and end its reliance on russian supplies of the fuel beforeWhile2030.spain does not rely on russian gas, the government argues the measures show solidarity with the rest of europe and will help free up gas from spain barely uses russian gas itself, but by reducing energy use the government hopes to free up gas madrid normally buys from countries other than russia for nations trying to wean themselves off russian supplies.

Alicante to Galicia direct rail link high-speed trains will soon run from the Costa blanca to the far north-western region of galicia, covering 928 kilometres (577 miles) in just five hours. national rail operator renFe has announced the AVe line to ourense – capital of galicia’s only land-locked province, just above the portuguese border –will set off from Alicante for the first time on 13thseptember. this has been made possible thanks to an express train tunnel opening between madrid’s two largest stations, Atocha and Chamartín, allowing the AVe to cut straight through the capital. before, the ultra-fast rail service was able to run from madrid to the west and northwest, or east and south-east, but anyone wanting to travel right across the country would have to book two trains and change in the capital. they would need to catch a metro, or underground train, from Atocha to Chamartín to head west, or Chamartín to Atocha to go east, adding extra inconvenience and journey time, as well as waiting around – the two AVe rides would have to be booked far enough apart in time to allow for delays in crossing the city. With the first trans-madrid direct AVe route, passengers will be able to get from Alicante to ourense, non-stop, in just five hours and 10 minutes, and the return journey will be shorter still - four hours and 56 minutes.driving between the two cities, even by motorway –Ap-7 from Alicante to Valencia, A-3 from Valencia to madrid, then A-5 and A-52 from madrid to ourense – takes just over eight hours and 40 minutes, net of service-station stops. even bearing in mind that the traffic flow is constant on spain’s motorways and drivers rarely, if ever, have to drop much below the upper speed limit, the journey from the ComunidadValenciana to galicia would be difficult to complete by car in under 10 hours. An internal flight between Alicante and ourense would typically take around an hour and 40 minutes, not including at least an hour or two at either end for checking in and baggage collectionand costs an average of €75. however, direct flights are not always available, meaning a typical plane journey would involve a connecting flight and take about three hours and 45 minutes which, with checking in and collecting bags, is likely to take at least as long as, if not longer than, the new train ride.

Alicante train station In Memory of Richard Dobinson

orihuela Costa was shocked and saddened on Wednesday (24th August) to hear of the sudden passing of richard dobinson. richard was a very well-known and much-loved member of the community and at just 52-years-of-age his death was completely unexpected. richard leaves behind mom teresa, dad Alan, and his longterm partner mike as well as a large family and network of friends both here and in the uK. he joins his older sister Kim, who sadly passed away four years-ago at the same age of 52. having travelled the world for 34-years with bA as a senior member of First Class cabin crew, richard set up his own travel agency Arrive relax from his home in Villamartin which, since the pandemic, has gone from strength to strength. richard was a loyal and kind friend and would defend those he loved fiercely. he greeted everyone with a smile and was always the life and soul of the party; he loved meeting people and being in company. he was hugely popular, had a large circle of friends, was extremely sociable and great fun to be with.it was no surprise, due to these traits, that richard began to manage the sky bar for owner gouda. richard organised events and entertainment, revamped the menu, made suggestions and changes and before long the bar was bustling with customers. so, it was here, at the sky bar, that family and friends gathered on saturday, following a poignant service in san pedro, to celebrate richard’s life. there were lots of tears, lots of laughs and copious amounts of alcohol. shots were ‘downed’ to cries of ‘cheers rich’ and there is no doubt he would have definitely approved. A Just giving page is being created in richard’s memory and funds will go to stevie spit’s on-going fundraising for the elche Children’s home. the current project aims to install false ceilings to keep the children warm through the winter and reduce heating costs.

EURO the recent combination of weaker euroarea economic data and a much stronger dollar, combined to ensure that eur/ usd fell back below parity with a bit more sustainability throughout this week. After last month’s fanfare followed by a damp squib, this week’s 3 day run below the magic 1.0000 region is perhaps a stronger reflection of the expectation for future interest rate moves between the two central banks, even if the eCb have been finally stirred into action with that 50bps hike last month. next week’s hiCp inflation reading is expected to reflect a slight softening for the region from 8.9% to around 8.6%, which may help to ensure that the eCb move forward with greater confidence for caution yet again. this is especially significant at present, given the markets recent appetite to test the eCb’s resolve by steadily pushing-up yields on italian bonds. on that note, hedge Funds have reportedly built-up their biggest short position since 2008. that is a big worry for the eCb, as the last thing that they want at the moment is another euro area debt crisis. of course, the first thing that the hedge Funds want is one. As for the single currency, it might sound odd to say at this juncture, but the market will still pay greater attention to the Fed than the eCb, and so eur/usd could easily pop back over parity if there is a broader dollar decline unfolding, even if the dark clouds keep circling above rome and milan just now. While for gbp/eur, sterling is pushing higher on the basis of being in a slightly less than worse position (if we can say that), but that might be like celebrating the fact that you have just finished first in a race with just you in it. A break over 1.1950 would be a stronger signal of impending further sterling strength. over 1.2000 has capped the upside momentum for some time, and so a meaningful break above here would generate plenty of headlines.

this drill is performed to check the coordination of the surveillance and rescue team, the effectiveness of the planned protocols and communication between those involved. the councilman of beaches of the City of torrevieja, Antonio Vidal, along with the coordinator of Lifeguarding of the beaches of torrevieja, miguel guillén, have attended the simulation of sea rescue and lifeguarding to know the level and execution of the same. A lifeguard, a skipper, a coordinator, health technicians and the person in charge of the lifeguard station in the area participated in the rescue. the rescue of a person was recreated, which simulated a cardiac arrest, and the material required was a first aid kit, rescue equipment, oxygen and desA. the characteristics of the aquatic distress occurred 200 meters from the shore. then, the person in charge of the post informed his colleagues of the situation with the rescue equipment, two lifeguards swam to the area where the victim was located and a jet ski with a lifeguard came to tow them to the shore. once on the shore and in a shady location, they began resuscitation with Aed equipment and oxygen. When they managed to revive the victim, the rescuers, together with the team of health technicians who arrived in an ambulance, transferred the victim on a stretcher to the paramedic vehicle to assist the person and take him as quickly as possible to the hospital. the total time of the simulation until arrival at the hospital was less than 30 minutes.

GBP Aside from the ongoing battle to become the next uK prime minister, which if you believe the polls, suggest that Liz truss is already packing her suitcase for no 10, there has been a bit of a data vacuum in the uK. With the next boe meeting still over 2 weeks away (15th september), future sterling direction is therefore likely to continue to be dominated by what is happening to the dollar (see usd) for the most part. having fallen from 1.2150 to 1.1800 over three days toward the end of last week, gbp/usd has maintained a slightly stronger foothold throughout this week (so far), moving back over 1.1800, having broken the previous low of 1.1760 this tuesday. despite this, the pound does continue to trade with a heavy bias, and that is perhaps not surprising given the deteriorating economic backdrop in the uK making that next boe decision such a challenging one. When you consider that uK inflation has already reached double-digits and could reach 18% next year, with the cost of living crisis continuing to accelerate, as well as the imminent increase in the energy price cap about to make everything look and feel even more painful, that heavy bias is entirely understandable. sometimes, no news is therefore good news.

A general rule of thumb in home networking says that WiFi routers can reach up to 46 metres indoors and 92 metres outdoors.thesimplest is to try moving the location of your Wi-Fi router. it should be in the most central location possible. if this is not possible consider the following. options to increase Wi-Fi 1.rangeAdd another router – run a network cable to another WiFi router. 2. use a Wi-Firepeaterconnects to your network wirelessly and rebroadcasts your existing network signal. each repeater needs to be in Wi-Firange of a Wi-Fi source. 3. use a Wi-Fi extender – this connects directly to your router and creates a new WiFi network.

Youruseless!longer letter tells me that you wanted to stay with him, despite the affairs and him treating you badly. It sounds like you had very low self-esteem at the time. You admit you enabled him in all aspects in order to keep him, and by doing everything in the home, he now won’t step up now that you need him. I am not sure what you want out of this situation as you don’t say you want out, and perhaps it is too late. But look to your practical needs; if you need help at home, I would cut him out of the equation, and get some home help in to assist you.

My husband had at least two affairs around 30 years ago. He didn’t seem to care that I was aware. In those days, there weren’t mobile phones, so I first noticed when the house phone kept on ringing twice and then ringing off. Then, he would make an excuse to go out or walk the dog - which he never did. He would just laugh at me when I accused him. Gifts would appear in the house, new aftershave etc. On a holiday to our family’s caravan, I followed him one night, and caught him with this woman. I knew her, from home. It was devastating for me that they’d gone to such lengths to arrange assignations while we were away with the kids. But I fought for him. I’ve come to realise over the years that it turned out he wasn’t going to leave me anyway, as all he wanted was to have his cake and eat it, despite him threatening to leave us all. I’ve just been a housekeeper to him all our lives, while he continued to flirt with women right in front of me And now, we are old and I Write to Sara in confidence. a p S eudonym W ill be u S ed if you WiS h. Skin-care/makeup products in the right order start by applying thinner, watery textured products first and leave the thickest, creamiest products for the end. This helps the skin because heavy creams and oils help seal all the products that have been applied prior. Liquid Intake

The effects and benefits of following all these tips would be incomplete if not paired with a healthy diet. To get good skin and hair, your diet should always be nutrition-rich. It should be an excellent mix of fruits, vegetables, nuts, cereals, and pulses. Increase the intake of raw or boiled food and include as many fruits and veggies in your meals as possible by choosing to have salads, smoothies, and juices. Not only will you feel more active and light, but you will have a great outlook on life.

3.

A double cleanse routine Following this two-step process is easy. You need an oil-based cleanser, which should be then followed by a water-based one. An oil based cleanser removes all traces of makeup and dust, while a water-based one will remove stubborn grime that usually stays behind. The process of double cleansing not only leaves your face clean, but it also eliminates the possibilities of clogged pores as well as acne.

Using a sunscreen Besides protecting your skin against the harmful UVA and UVB rays of the sun, a sunscreen is also the best anti-ageing tool you would ever use. It protects your skin against wrinkles, pigmentation, dark spots as well as skin cancer. We recommend you choose a non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic formula, by simply reading the labels on the bottle, to prevent skin breakouts. Keep your hands off your face Your hands come in contact with a lot of things throughout the day and end up collecting a lot of dirt, grime and germs. Each time you touch your face for anything, you really are leaving behind a lot of germs and creating a minefield of potential zits. We recommend you to wash and sanitize your hands a couple of times during the day. Makeup setting sprays Not only do they prolong your makeup staying power, setting sprays have been found to have skin cooling, hydrating, brightening and glow inducing benefits and effects. Just two-three sprays after applying makeup will do wonders and allow you to become less conscious about getting it all smudged.

Dermatologists say that choosing the right beverage can actually turn out to be a game changer for your skin. Drink about half a liter of water every morning to brighten, oxygenate, and hydrate your skin. Drinking a glass of fresh green juices with lots of veggies every day for breakfast is another great way to transform your skin in a matter of days. Removing Makeup At the end of a long, tiring day, it can be super tempting to jump right into bed by just washing your face. But this is the perfect gateway for bad skin. It is important to thoroughly clean and remove every last bit of makeup from your face before you go to sleep. Failing to do so will clog your pores and give rise to bad zits and acne. Exfoliate your skin Apart from sloughing away dead skin cells, exfoliation thoroughly cleanses your pores from deep within. This will also ensure that makeup goes on smoothly without appearing cakey on the skin.

A healthy diet

Triple layered berry

STEP 6 Run a knife around the sides of the cake tin between the cheesecake and the parchment, and loosen the base. Transfer to a cake stand, and smooth the sides, using a palette knife, to neaten the layers. Mix the chocolate with a few drops of lemon extract, if using. Pile the remaining strawberries, some sliced, some whole, on top, and drizzle over the chocolate to finish.

5 tbsp sweet sherry 2 gelatine leaves 500g tub fresh custard

120g caster sugar

2 x 300g shop-bought madeira cakes

2 x 135g blocks raspberry jelly 150g frozen berry mix 150ml double cream 1 tbsp golden caster sugar Toasted flaked almonds and sprinkles, to serve Method

STEP 2 Soak the gelatine leaves in cold water. Put the raspberries in a food processor or in a jug using a stick blender, and blitz to a smooth purée. Sieve out the seeds. Warm the raspberry sauce in a small pan with 1 tbsp sugar until just starting to steam, then pour over 1 drained gelatine leaf in a bowl and stir to dissolve.

STEP 1 Line a deep 20 x 25cm baking tin with a sheet of baking parchment so it goes along the bottom and up the sides to make it easy to lift the trifle out. If you’re using a loosebottomed tin, tightly wrap the base in foil. Cut the cakes horizontally and use to fit the base of the tin, drizzle with 3 tbsp of the sherry and set aside.

STEP Make3 up 1 pack of jelly following pack instructions, then leave to cool for 30 mins. Pour half over the custard, scatter over the berries, pour over the rest of the jelly and put in the fridge for 1 hr. Make up the remaining jelly, leave to cool, then pour over and put back back the fridge to set for at least 1 hr more. Can be made up to two days ahead and kept in the fridge.

Ingredientscheesecake

STEP Before4 serving, whisk the cream with the sugar and the remaining sherry until it holds its shape. Tip the cream into a piping bag fitted with a star nozzle. Carefully lift the trifle out of the tin and cut into 12 squares. Lift onto plates and pipe a big splodge of cream onto each square, and scatter with almonds and sprinkles to serve.

STEP 2 Blitz 1/3 of the strawberries to make a strawberry sauce. In a large bowl whisk the cream with the icing sugar until it just holds its shape. Roughly crush ¾ of the meringues and tip them in with the chopped strawberries and stir, then swirl through the strawberry sauce. Dollop into bowls then crush the remaining meringues, sprinkling the pieces over the top.

Eton IngredientsMess

STEP Whisk4the soft cheese, cream and caster sugar until it just starts to thicken. Divide between three bowls (about 260g per bowl). Fold the strawberry purée into one with a few drops of food colouring to make it light pink, the raspberry mix with the gelatine into another with more food colouring so it’s dark pink, and the vanilla bean paste into the third.

STEP Spoon5 the raspberry filling over the biscuit base, smoothing the surface so it’s flat. Next, add the strawberry filling, gently smoothing over without disturbing the bottom layer, then repeat with the vanilla mixture, using a clean spoon to level the top. A spatula or knife might help with this to keep from dragging the below layers. Chill for 4 hrs or overnight.

100g butter , melted, plus extra for the 200gtin digestive biscuits 2 gelatine leaves 50g raspberries 50g caster sugar , plus 2 tbsp 350g strawberries 500g full-fat soft cheese 250ml double cream Few drops red or pink food colouring 1 tbsp vanilla bean paste 50g white chocolate , melted Few drops lemon extract (optional) Method STEP Butter1 and line the base and sides of a 20cm springform tin. Blitz the digestives in a food processor until you get fine crumbs, or bash in a sandwich bag with a rolling pin. Transfer to a bowl and stir in the melted butter until it looks like damp sand. Tip into the prepared tin, and smooth the mixture with the back of a spoon to make an even base, then chill.

STEP 2 Soak the gelatine in cold water to soften and heat the custard gently in a saucepan or in the microwave until hot. Drain and squeeze the gelatine, then stir it into the custard until completely dissolved. Leave to cool slightly, then spread it evenly over the sponge. Put in the fridge for 30 mins to set.

STEP 1 Heat oven to 120C/100C fan/gas 1 and line a large baking tray with parchment paper. Whisk the egg whites in a clean bowl using an electric whisk or tabletop mixer until they reach stiff peaks, then add the sugar in 3 lots, re-whisking to stiff peaks every time. Spoon dollops of the mixture onto the baking parchment, cook on the bottom shelf of the oven for 1hr – 1hr15 mins until the meringues are completely hard and come off the paper easily. Leave to cool.

Previous studies have shown walking can reduce the risk of death in over 60s by 28 per cent for every extra 1,000 steps they take a day. The latest research was presented as an abstract at the European Society of Cardiology Congress 2022 today. It used data from the the Korean National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) Senior database. The study included 7,047 adults aged 85 or older who underwent the Korean National Health Screening Programme from 2009 to 2014.

• Previous studies have also shown missing out on sleep can lead to a host of health problems in later life including high blood pressure, dementia and diabetes.

• Losing out on sleep can cause the body to produce the hunger hormone ghrelin, which makes people eat more — putting them at greater risk of obesity.

Experts create a go-to guide detailing the best and worst ways to drain off after using the toiletDr David Webber says people who do not properly dry their hands could be described as ‘anti-social’ Research. suggests 85% of microbes spread through contaminated surfaces occurs with moist hands . Dr Webber has now ranked eight popular hand drying methods from best to worst as part of a campaign. We’ve spent the last two years being persistently reminded about the importance of washing our hands because of Covid. But, chances are, you have barely given a second’s thought about how to dry them. According to one expert, however, not drying your hands after a trip to the toilet can actually be even worse than not washing them at all.

The team from Inje University Sanggye Paik Hospital in Seoul said promoting walking could help the oldest in society avoid inactivity, which can raise their risk of death. Lead author Dr Moo-Nyun Jin, a cardiologist, said it showed people should aim to ‘keep walking throughout life’.The NHS recommends adults aged 65 and over should aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate activity - including walking - every week. But the latest research suggests less than half of that will still be beneficial as people reach older ages. The light exercise can help reduce the risk of heart attacks and stroke by keeping the organ in good shape and lowering blood pressure.DrJin said: ‘Adults are less likely to meet activity recommendations as they get‘Ourolder.study suggests that walking at least one hour every week is beneficial for people aged 85 years and older. Put simply, walk for 10 minutes every day.’

Why not drying your hands could be even WORSE than not washing them at all

• It comes amid a growing childhood obesity epidemic that means one in five youngsters in England are too fat by the time they start primary school.

• Childhood obesity reached ‘unprecedented levels’ during the Covid pandemic, with children sat at home and not able to run around in playgrounds.

Adults aged 85-plus reduced their risk of dying if they walked one hour weekly Study of more than 7,000 adults in the age group tracked their exercise levelsThose who walked 10 minutes a day were two-fifths less likely to die Walking just 10 minutes every day in old age could lower your risk of dying from any cause by 40 per cent, a study claims.Korean researchers found pensioners aged 85 and over can reduce their risk of death by walking for as little as one hour per week.

Dr David Webber, a microbiologist with 50 years’ experience, including at University College of Swansea, claimed people who do not properly dry their hands could be described as ‘anti-social’. Bacteria such as E. coli thrive on damp surfaces, including hands. Previous research has suggested 85 per cent of microbes spread by people contaminating surfaces occur when hands are still moist. As part of his quest to improve public hygiene, Dr Webber has now ranked eight of the world’s most popular hand drying methods from best to worst.

Teenagers who sleep less than seven hours a night are up to 70 PER CENT more likely to be obese, study finds

• It found 14-year-olds who slept less than seven hours a night were 72 per cent more likely to have a BMI of over 25 than those sleeping more than eight.

• Spanish researchers who did the study said it showed why teens should aim for eight hours sleep at an absolute minimum.

Study of 1,200 children aged 12 to 16 tracked their sleeping over seven days. Researchers measured their BMIs to see if they were obese or overweight 14-year-olds who slept less than seven hours were 72% more likely to be fat • Setting between seven to eight hours also raised the risk of piling on the pounds by up to 29 per cent compare to those who got a full eight hours.

• The study of more than 1,200 children aged 12 to 16 measured their sleeping over a week and compared it to their body-mass index (BMI).

• Researchers said parents should ‘set a good example’ by enforcing strict bedtimes to avoid their children being at risk of heart problems because of weight gain.

10-minute daily walk in old age reduces risk of dying from all causes by 40%

Some 57.5 per cent did not walk at all and 8.5 per cent walked less than an hour.Twelve per cent said they walked between one and two hours per week, while 8.7 per cent did so between two and three hours and 13.3 per cent did for more than three hours. Those who walked at least an hour were found to be 40 per cent less likely to die from any cause and 39 per cent less likely to die from heart problems.

They were 87 years old on average and 4,813 - more than two thirds - were women.Participants were surveyed on how much they exercised a week.

The study of more than 7,000 adults in the age group tracked their exercise levels and whether they died from 2009 to It2014.found those who kept up their walking were two-fifths less likely to die from any cause when compared to those who were inactive.

Dr Jin said: ‘Walking was linked with a lower likelihood of dying in older adults, regardless of whether or not they did any moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity.

• The NHS recommends teenagers get between seven and 11 hours of sleep a night to develop physically and mentally.

Rest, important in summer. The first objective of the holidays is to rest, but it is frequent that we end up doing the opposite, getting to sleep fewer hours, so that it is not beneficial for our cardiovascular health. Lack of sleepincreasesbloodlevels of stress hormones, which increases blood pressure and heart rate.

All this without forgetting the increased risk of kidney failure.

Keys so that summer does not become an enemy of your heart Carry the medication on you. Breaking the routine makes us forget to take our medication, since we always associate it with concrete actions such as breakfast, dinner, etc.

20% of hypertensive patients fail to comply with their treatment in summer

Caution with heat. The main causes of mortality during heatwaves are related to cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and respiratory diseases. It is the reason why it is not convenient that we spend a lot of time exposed to thesun in the central hours of theday.

Be careful with alcohol. Experts advise maintaining a healthy and balanced diet in summer as the rest of the year. Excessive intake of alcoholic beverages can lead to heart rhythm disorders and a certain degree of contractile Cautioninsufficiency.with the chosen holiday destination. Heart patients can choose the holiday destination they prefertaking into account only that it is preferable to avoid countries with extreme temperatures and places

According to Dr. Rafael Florenciano, specialist of theIntegral CardiologyUnit of Hospital Quirónsalud Torrevieja, “all precautions are few to enjoy a few days of rest without setbacks; thus, a por diet with a high load of fats and salt, together with other factors, such as the abuse of tobacco, alcohol and the decrease in sports practice regularly cause a lack of control of blood pressure”. In summer the blood pressure values are lower than in the Winter months, which is because, with the heat, vasodilation occurs to favor the loss of body temperature, and as a consequence you have a low blood Ifpressure.ahypertensive person is exposed to the sun too much in summer and does not hydrate properly, they can suffer a very serious hypotension that, in severe cases, causes loss of consciousness and fainting. Within hypertensive people, older adults are especially sensitive to heat because the mechanism of sweating is normally impaired and in them it is very likely that heart and kidney problems will occur, so itis more difficult to getrid of excessheat in the body. For thi sreason, Dr. Alfredo Vidal, specialist of the cardiology service of the Hospital Quirón salud Murcia, recommends, before the hot months, to go to your trusted doctor to adjust the anti hypertensive treatment, as well as the Asdiuretics.Dr.Florenciano adds, “not one of the drugs used to treat high blood pressure are diuretics, which, added to the high temperatures of the environment, causes the patient to lose more fluids, which is why it is vitally important that more fluids are taken than usual.” What is most advisable for this type of people at this time of yearis to drink plenty of water, eat fresh fruit and wear light clothing to promote the replacement of liquids that are lost with sweat and thus avoid dehydration or, in more serious cases, heatstroke.

On some occasions, used cars can present complex problems that are not detected with the naked eye and that can only be seen through a complete check such as that carried out by ITV stations, which includes: the engine, the lighting, the brakes, the emissions, among other systems. Also, through this type of inspection, it can be detected, for example, if the vehicle has any non-legalised reform. Of course, with this type of voluntary inspection, you should know that if any serious or very serious defect is detected, you will still have to get that fixed immediately, and then return to the ITV station to verify that it has been corrected.

If you have a foreign registered vehicle, the mandatory vehicle inspection must be done in the country where the vehicle is registered. So, for example, if you have a UK registered vehicle, you must get your MOT done in the ThereUK. is sometimes confusion because a number of people have taken their cars to Spanish ITV stations and undergone an ITV test. This is most likely true, but the difference is it is what is known as a voluntary ITV and is not legally binding. You can take any vehicle at any time to an ITV station, and they will inspect it, but even for Spanish registered vehicles, this voluntary ITV is beneficial as a preventive tool, but it does not affect the expiration date of the periodic and mandatory ITV. So why does it exist? As an example, summer is one of the times of year when incidents are recorded on the roads. In fact, in 2021 the months of July, August and September accumulated 32% of the total deaths in road traffic incidents of the year. This is mainly because it is also the period in which there is greater road mobility. Therefore, it is vitally important to take extreme precautionary measures before making a road trip. The Spanish Association of Collaborating Entities of the Administration in the Technical Inspection of Vehicles, AECA-ITV, explain that one of the preventive measures that drivers have to guarantee the correct functioning of their vehicle systems before making a long journey is the voluntary ITV. It is a type of technical inspection that can be completed (if the interested party so requests), such as the one that is carried out on a mandatory and periodic basis for all vehicles, or partial, which means that only correct operation of a specific element or system of the vehicle is checked, for example, the brakes, steering or emissions.Thesetypes of inspections usually have a lower cost than a periodic and mandatory ITV and do not affect its expiration date. It does however offer peace of mind before undertaking a roadLikewise, trip. the voluntary ITV can also be of great help when purchasing a second-hand vehicle. It is a tool that allows the buyer to be assured that the car you are going to acquire is in good condition and allows the seller to offer a guarantee of the proper functioning of the vehicle.

How to Pay a Traffic Fine

Nowadays, we buy many of our products on the internet, but we must take into account that when we buy a vehicle it must meet the requirements established by the EU for vehicles. How can we know it? When you buy one of these vehicles from webs out of the EU, check that the products are CE approved. Vehicles obtain this certification after passing several tests and one of them is the battery test. In this video you can see how this electric scooter is on fire produced when the person tried to charge it, and after one hour there was a short circuit and the battery did not have effective protective measures, and the software of the scooter did not work to stop charge on time. Please, never buy non-homologated vehicles. Remember: the cheaper option turns out more expensive! What does the CE marking mean? The letters ‘CE’ appear on many products traded on the extended Single Market in the European Economic Area (EEA). They signify that products sold in the EEA have been assessed to meet high safety, health, and environmental protection requirements.

To make the payment, you will need the date of notification, that is, the day on which the fine is received at home or on which a Guardia Civil officer delivers it by hand. In addition, the file number, document number, name and email are alsoAnotherrequired.option is to pay the DGT fine through the QR code that is included in the same document. For this, you must enter the total amount of the infraction and without including the 50% reduction. Subsequently, the DGT will indicate the amount pending payment. As mentioned above, there are other ways to make the payment. If you opt for a telephone contact, you must call the 060 number. The automatic service system works 24 hours a day throughout the year. Meanwhile, the miDGT application is another alternative and can be downloaded in an Apple and Android version, both for mobile phones and tablets. It is totally free. Finally, if you want to choose the face-to- face option, you can do it at different points: at any post office, head office or traffic office, and Caixabank branches or ATMs.However, if you make the payment at a post office, you will have to pay an additional fee of 2.25 euro plus 1.50% of the amount of the fine.It is not necessary for the offender to pay the fine. It can be done by “any person who is in possession of a credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard or Maestro)”, says the DGT. The process is free and commission-free. If you reside in another country and have received a fine, you have the possibility of paying the fine through bank

If you receive a traffic fine through the post, there are a number of ways in which you can make the payment. Not too long ago, the only way was with a visit to the most local, and very busy, DGT office. These days, it can also be done by phone, from the miDGT application and through the internet.

Thetransfer.bankdetails to make the transfer are indicated in the notification of the file. The bank account indicated in the notification is ONLY used for the payment of that file. It is very important to include the reference number of the sanction in the subject line. Check that this number is correct before making the transfer, because if it is not correct, the fine will not be understood as paid. In addition, the bank commissions that the banking institution may charge will always be borne by the interested party.

First of all though, it is important that you know who has sanctioned you. It might be the DGT, but could also be from an Autonomous Community or a City Council. To pay the fine, claim or make an allegation, you must always go to the body that has sanctioned you, says the DGT. And secondly, if the fine is paid in the voluntary period, that is, in the first twenty days since the complaint was notified, in most cases it is possible for the amount to benefit from a 50% reduction.Ifitisa DGT issued fine, the first step is to go to their website, dgt.es, then continue in the electronic office (sedeelectronica) for which you will need a secure form of identification such as a Clave or digital signature. Then, look for the fines section (multas).

Your electric Scooter should always be CE approved

Tour Championship: Rory McIlroy pays tribute to PGA Tour after historic FedExCup win at East Lake McIlroy won the FedExCup for a third time after claiming a one-shot victory over Scottie Scheffler in Atlanta; Tiger Woods and Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald among the players to praise McIlroy for his win on social media

Rory McIlroy hailed the PGA Tour as the “greatest place in the world” to play golf after making FedExCup history with a dramatic victory at the season-ending Tour Championship. The Northern Irishman scooped the $18m (£15.3m) jackpot after overturning a six-stroke deficit during a thrilling final round at East Lake GC, with McIlroy posting a four-under 66 to end the week on 21 under and a shot clear of world No 1 Scottie Scheffler.McIlroy’s victory sees him become the first three-time FedExCup champion and comes at the end of a turbulent season within the sport, with several of the PGA Tour’s star names already leaving for the breakaway LIV Golf circuit and more expected to in the coming days. It [FedExCup victory] means an awful lot,” McIlroy said during the presentation ceremony. “I believe in the game of golf. I believe in this Tour in particular. I believe in the players on this“It’sTour.the greatest place in the world to play golf, bar none, and I’ve played all over the world. This is an incredibly proud moment for me, but it should also be an incredibly proud moment for the PGA Tour. “They [the PGA Tour] have had some hard times this year, but we’re getting through it. That was a spectacle out there today, two of the best players in the world going head-to-head for the biggest prize on the PGA Tour, and I hope everyone at home enjoyed that.” McIlroy mixed six birdies with two bogeys during the final round to hold off Scheffler, who led through large parts of the week before narrowly missing out on a fifth PGA Tour win of the campaign.

Credit to Everton’s Anthony Gordon - he’s another one who has said he’d like to move to Chelsea (probably realising if he has to leave a badly run club for one who probably won’t even play him, he may as well make a boatload of cash out of the situation). He did an oh-so-rare thing for the Toffees and scored. They didn’t win though, obviously. Brentford probably played better here than against United but had to wait until the 84th minute until one finally went in. Every man and Thomas Frank’s dog hit the woodwork and they’ll hope they don’t regret the two dropped points at the end of the season.

Arsenal are happy with their lot. When Mitro opened the scoring, you’d think this might be the moment their overly-happy, club has been fixed, isn’t Arteta great bubble would burst. No, even villains become heroes at the Emirates currently - after Gabriel gifted Fulham their opener he went and scored the winner. It makes me sick. Zinchenko showed an impressive turn of pace for a player who couldn’t play because of injury.

Chelsea might struggle to win games with 11 but managed it with 10. Could this be yet another tactical revolution by Tuchel? Leicester - more shots, more possession and more corners, more players. But crucially, not more goals.

37www.costablancapeople.com CostaBlancaPeople 30th August - 5th September 2022 Sport TALES FROM THE TOP FLIGHT

Aston Villa’s game with West Ham wasn’t the greatest of first halvesWest Ham sorted themselves out a bit in the second half after the Moysiah reminded them that their new £50m Brazilian might not sign if he sees them playing like that. Unfortunately for Villa, Stevie G didn’t have any threats he could use as they’d already wasted a shed load on their Brazilian - the very much missing Philippe Coutinho. West Ham have leapt from the foot of the table.

amazing how good Lisandro Martinez can look when he isn’t having to carry Harry Maguire around on his back.

Leicester City managed to have more shots, more possession, more corners and even more players than Chelsea but, crucially, not more goals meaning they lost. Raheem Sterling ended his goal crisis with a brace and Thomas Tuchel, an intelligent coach, will have noticed that his side have struggled to win with 11 players on the pitch this season but looked very, very good with just 10 after Conor Gallagher picked up the most daft two yellows so far this campaign.

Wolves wouldn’t have ended the weekend in the bottom three if they could have held out just a little bit longer - in the classic “goal that would have sealed the three points gets chalked off by VAR meaning the opposition are contractually obliged to go and score a worldy equaliser” move, Allan Saint-Maximin gained a point for Newcastle - who signed a striker more expensive than Michael Owen and Alan Shearer combined in the week. Swedish international Alexander Isak will no doubt get a warm welcome on Tyneside (rather than questions about his Saudi Arabian paypacket).

And as I stop writing, there’s about 100 hours of the transfer window left - how many panic buys can United, Chelsea, Everton and Villa muster between them? Several, you’d imagine.

Spurs look far more traditional Conte than traditional Tottenham. They won 2-0 at Forest and could even afford Harry Kane missing a penalty - he must have briefly remembered it was August, though it is fair to say this season can finally put that old adage firmly to bed. After all, he did get the other two. Son must have had a hint of the green-eyed monster after Richarlison set up Kane’s second - probably not room for three in that relationship.Andeven

Leicester’s mood won’t have been improved by the fact that Wesley Fofana is almost certainly heading out the door to the side that just beat them.

As we often say, what a difference a week makes in the Premier League. All of a sudden, there’s not a top-six crisis in sight - unless you count the lack of private jets available for teams to get to matches which, of course, we don’t. And for a column entirely dedicated to mocking big clubs in crisis, that isn’t good.Liverpool entered a crisis by losing to Man United who exited their crisis in that 2-1 at Old Trafford. Yet, Liverpool are now no longer in crisis due to the fact they battered Bournemouth by nine. Yes, nine. United avoided slipping back into one by beating Southampton. Arsenal look like a proper football team. Chelsea managed to win. Man City won and the answer is “he scored three”. Even Spurs slipping up does not constitute the C word. It was very nice of Peppy G to agree to the idea that all teams outside of top six are allowed a two-goal headstart against them. Crystal Palace, a regular thorn in the side of Man City, led 2-0 at the Etihad and it felt like the headline writers were concocting something about how having an actual number 9 was damaging them. If they got anywhere near the second paragraph of that piece, they had to bin it as Erling Haaland singlehandedly turned it around with a 19-minute hat-trick that had a little bit of everything. That’s how you deal with Joachim Andersen, Darwin. You had to feel for Scotty Parker who must have said “shell-shocked” nine times in his post-match interview - which made sense given that his Bournemouth side had just shipped that number of goals to a resurgent Liverpool.Imagine the pre-match team talk. “Lads, stop Salah and we stop Liverpool”. Yeah, about that. Klopp’s lot managed that scoreline and their Egyptian goalmachine failed to register once. Fantasy Football managers across the world checked their phones again and again, assuming there was some kind of mistake. There was a nice touch from Jurgen Klopp right at the end, where he had a quiet word in Parker’s ear. Presumably he said something like, “don’t worry about it mate, I lost to Man United last week - it could be worse!”

And suddenly Manchester feels like a sunny city for Erik ten Hag. Having got their season up-andrunning by beating their biggest rivals last Monday, they repeated the trick by nicking a 1-0 win against Southampton. That said, if the referee, his assistant or VAR had spotted the fact that Scott McTominay had handled the ball about five times in the area then the result might have beenCasemirodifferent.must be wondering what everyone was panicking about and it’s n CHRIS DARWEN chris@costablancapeople.com

Brighton are unbeaten in nine and Jesse Marsch has a curious way of trying to get referees to give him more favourable decisions - slamming the ball into the ground and sarcastically applauding the official. It’s either do that or nothing, he says. Graham Potter’s side beat Leeds 1-0 and are looking pretty tough to beat - which won’t last you’d imagine, but they are being clinical in front of goal for the first time since they got promoted.
