million was reached. recent production has not been so bountiful. the dAnA of September 2019 flooded the facilities and Storm Gloria in January 2020 ended up finishing off that harvest. the rainy springs of 2021 and 2022 did not help to recover production and the company resorted to sourcing salt from other salt mines of the Salins group in europe and Africa.now

murcia (Corvera) airport is approximately 20 minutes drive Surrounding by a number of high quality golf courses.

Salins Spain, the subsidiary of the French multinational Salins, is hoping that a new spell of torrential rains does not disrupt the favourable forecasts. despite these difficulties, the company has always maintained a stock of 200,000 tons of salt -and will continue to do so- to bear any change in forecasts and meet all its customers demands. pérez added that most of torrevieja’s salt is used in bulk for de-icing roads in europe and Spain, but there are also items of culinary salt, including the fleur de sel, and other salt products used in chemical manufacturing.

torrevieja’s famous salt industry is forecasting a bumper season, thanks to the high temperatures experienced this year. the salt company expects a yield of 550,000 tons of salt during the extraction campaign which recently commenced. the salt workers usually begin production work in August and conclude in June of the following year, leaving a month for maintenance work in July. the high temperatures have allowed the brine saturation process to speed up and the volume of salt to reach 300 grams per litre of water. the high evaporation has in turn reduced the volume of water in the wetland, reducing its average depth to one metre and fifteen centimetres, compared to over one and a half metres that the pink lake measured at the end of spring following a prolonged period of heavy rains.

Unsurprisingly, inflation expectations are now at their highest level since the boe’s survey was first introduced back in 1999.

torrevieja’s Councillor for the environment and beaches, Antonio Vidal, reported that for the third consecutive year, Kentish plovers have once again successfully nested on La mata beach. during the current breeding season of 2022, a total of 3 pairs of Kentish plovers (Charadrius alexandrinus) have nested on the dunes at the front of the municipal natural park “molino del Agua”. Vidal reported that eight young have been successfully hatched. the important nesting area was declared a ‘municipal natural Area’ in 2006. its 17 hectares contain the last remaining dunes that are preserved in torrevieja. the town hall took several measures this year to ensure the successful nesting of the Kentish plover, such as the installation of a second fence, with ropes and wooden posts, which protected the nesting area as well as information posters to inform members of the public. these birds are one of the most endangered species in the Valencian Community, and since 2021 they are listed as “endangered” in the red book of birds of Spain. its population has been reduced by more than 70% in the last 30 years as a result of the loss of its habitat, associated with the urbanisation of the coast.

Councillor Vidal said, “ this new breeding season shows that it is possible to combine the use of these places by citizens, with conservation of the species, as long as there is, on the part of the people, respect for the ecosystem.”thedirect involvement of the staff of the department of the environment and beaches of torrevieja town hall and the volunteer team of the torrevieja

recent economic data from the UK has been a bit of a mixed bag, but key inflation and employment data gave markets a lift, albeit on a temporary basis. much the same as everywhere else just now, inflation is the one that really matters, and having surpassed the key 10% threshold last month, UK inflation surprisingly dipped just below at 9.9% through August. Falling petrol prices were the main driver (sorry), and whilst the decline can be considered hardly spectacular, the drop marked the first such decline in UK inflation for more than a year. When it comes to inflation, we will all celebrate any drop at the moment.

As for the pound, well Gbp/USd had a cracking start to this week, driven by that surge in risk appetite. For a spell, the pair even moved over 1.1725. however, the pound ran into a US

inflation wall, and quickly succumbed to dollar strength, pushing back to just under 1.1500 by yesterday’s european close. Gbp/eUr looked as though it was going to break back above 1.1600, but was unable to sustain the rally yesterday, and has since slipped back to around 1.1500. What to watchfor next week: bank of england meeting (thur), S&p Services pmi (Fri).

towatchfor next week: Friday’s S&p pmi’s will be key, with most of the region below the key 50 threshold.

Rare bird successfully nests on La Mata beach again

For the pound to surge on the day, the boe would likely need to accompany any hike with an extremely hawkish message on rates, which seems unlikely given the challenging economic backdrop, notwithstanding the slight improvements on expectations we have highlighted above.

pioC concluded by saying, “in orihuela you would find it virtually impossible to find any pedestrian restrictions so poor or consideration for people with reduced mobility, our council needs to seriously invest time and money if they wish to restore the imbalance of years of discrimination, we need councillors from the coast who fightfor the needs of the coast.”“ifit is your intention to vote watch out for our special events around the coast explaining the registration process with a special guest to answer questions, remember you need to be a resident for at least three years in the meantime you can help by checking your padrón that your details are correct, especially your address.”

partido independencia orihuela Costa (pioC) has issued a statement this week criticising accessibility on orihuela Costa. A group spokesperson said, “Anybody trying to get around orihuela Costa on foot whilst pushing a young child in a pushchair or someone using a wheelchair around the footpaths are having to take risks every day. it is apparent that the needs of these two groups were never considered by planners or developers, and are low on priorities for our council. perhaps our mayor and deputy mayor Carolina Gracia and Jose Aix should spend a day either pushing a pram or be in a wheelchair to fully understand and appreciate the consequences of their discrimination aimed at the Coast. parents who try to safely walk their child to school whilst manoeuvring a younger sibling in a pushchair are forced to take high risks which are totally unacceptable, most pavements are not wide enough for a parent to hold the hand of a young child never mind hold their child’s hand whilst pushing a pushchair containing a

is this all they have to say? many towns and the city of torrevieja responded within 2 days to commemorate her death, why did orihuela take so long? Shame on them, they forget we contribute to the economy of the orihuela government, we deserve respect, we deserve compassion and empathy in the loss of our great Queen elizabeth ii this very short message of condolence of the passing of her majesty Queen elizabeth ii last thursday 8th September 2022, is to the royal family and all the british expats. I was bridesmaid at her wedding; however, she has since divorced. To cut a long story short, I married her husband’s best friend, which makes mixing awkward as her husband was at our wedding as a guest with his plus one. After months of protestations by my friend, and me saying it didn’t matter, and I wanted her there, my friend tried to spoil my wedding and turned up in a totally different dress to the one made for her. It was the right colour, and material, so she blended in and no one said anything, but she deliberately turned up late already dressed, so that nothing could be done about it. It was obvious that she’d pulled a fast one, and my other bridesmaids consoled me on the day, but I will never forgive her. She also got drunk and made a show of herself at the reception. I haven’t said anything to her about it, I just pretended I hadn’t

Studio 32 will be bringing you a celebration of award winning musicals in their latest production, ‘A Night on Broadway’.

He explained why this picture was chosen, “My choice has been focused on what each one of them communicates to me, as well as the composition, colour and originality.

Murica-born tennis teen Carlos Alcaraz’s epic US Open win has catapulted him to world number one – the youngest in history –but his trainer has a warning for his future rivals.“ He’s only playing at about 60 percent of his capacity,” says Juan Carlos Ferrero, retired star and himself winner of four Masters 1000 titles.Ferrero, 42, originally from Ontinyent, Valencia province, spent eight weeks at world number one in 2003 – the very year his brilliant pupil was born.

Theis. competition was judged by professional photographer Oliver Vegas, who found it hard to pick a winner from all the excellent entries. He commented, “The level of the entries has been really high, there were a range of very different photographs, with surreal yet original framing that I did not expect to find. Each of the participants has shown their originality in terms of what we understand by “summer”, going from the best sunset to the countryside, the mountains, the city and an endless number of moments that for many will surely have been unforgettable”.

“I first saw him at about 12 or 13 years old; he came and trained for a day; he was very small, but it was clear everyone was talking about him.“ He had everything he’s got now, but in miniature.”Alcaraz’s ‘secret to success’ at just 19 years old is nothing more complicated than ‘constant hard work’, Ferrero reveals. And he was very confident that the

moment the world’s spectators witnessed this weekend in Cincinnati – winning the US Open and reaching number one before he was even into his 20s –would come sooner or later.

Alcaraz only started on the ATP circuit one season ago.

Throughout the summer, keen photographers from the Costa Blanca, Costa del Sol and Mallorca were capturing moments, memories and landscapes and submitting them to Specsavers Ópticas for their summer photography competition. Nearly 100 high quality entries were received, showing what a beautiful country Spain really

But now that everyone is back in the classroom after the long summer holidays, it will be, for the youngest pupils, their first school year without masks, hand-washing, peer-group and playground ‘bubbles’, social distancing, online learning, and the threat of self-isolation always present.

Patricia won a pair of designer sunglasses and a 100€ Amazon voucher, which she collected from Specsavers Ópticas in Benidorm. She commented, “Wow, I can’t believe that you enjoyed my photo so much. Thank you! It was taken from our balcony in La Nucia looking across to the town of Polop. The scenery changes depending on the time of day and this was taken at sunrise. We have had so much pleasure in enjoying this view, so I was delighted to be able to capture this moment and share it with you and I’m pleased that you liked the photo too.”

Over the past 13 years Studio 32 have produced many award winning musicals, including Chicago, Anything Goes, White Christmas, Guys and Dolls and many more. A spokesperson for the group told the Costa Blanca People, “We have assembled a great cast to bring you an extravaganza of musical numbers and dance. Pictured are Carol Spence and Julie Cartwright who will be performing the number ‘Sisters’ from the musical White Xmas made famous by Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen. You will not be disappointed so book your tickets now using our online booking service outlined below. The show will run at the Cardenal Beluga Theatre, San Fulgencio, between the 10th, 11th and 12th of November. In an interview with Spanish press, he explained: “He needs to improve his serve, his backhander in certain situations, his consistency – to try to not let his mind wander,” Ferrero said of Alcaraz.“ These are details that, until you retire, all tennis players need to work on improving.”

That said, when Alcaraz first started at Ferrero’s tennis academy in Villenain Alicante province, the veteran player ‘saw something special in him’.

it, it would be advisable to receive medical advice, especially from the age of 35.

BUSINESS PROFILE

The specialists of the Hospital Quirónsalud Torrevieja recommend a periodic monitoring of blood pressure and glycaemic index, since these are two of the main risk factors for cardiovascular health. “A hyperglycaemia maintained over time can cause damage to our blood vessels until reaching the major arteries and generate cardiovascular diseases. On the other hand, a high blood pressure progressively increases the risk of death from a heart attack or stroke as blood pressure figures increase”, explain the cardiology specialists of Quirónsalud Torrevieja.Atthe origin of most cardiovascular diseases is arteriosclerosis, an ailment caused mainly by the obstruction of the arteries due to the deposit of cholesterol. Other risk factors are hypertension, diabetes, smoking, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, as well as genetic inheritance.

• Undergo periodic checkups, especially from the age of 50, to control the appearance of cardiovascular risk factors.

• Promote healthy lifestyle habits from childhood.

Cardiovascular disease is one of the main causes of death in women, especially from the age of 50, and its origin is found in the drop in oestrogen that occurs in menopause. “Oestrogens

are the protective hormones against cardiovascular diseases and their fall in menopause produces an increase in weight and cholesterol, together with the appearance of hypertension and diabetes. Another of the negative aspects are the symptoms of heart attacks in women, such as a less intense pain or lack of pain in the left arm which causes, on numerous occasions, a delay in the diagnosis, which worsens the prognosis”, point out the specialists of Quirónsalud Torrevieja.

The Safer Roads Foundation (SRF) has focused on the danger generated by these crossings looking at Spain, which, as they point out, is the only country in the world that continues to have that intermittent amber phase for vehicles that coincides with the green phase for pedestrians. “That a child, correctly following the ‘green man’ instruction to cross, could die due to flashing amber is tremendously concerning,” they note.

According to data handled by the ETSC (European Transport Safety Council), between 2010 and 2018, more than 51,000 pedestrians died on roads in the European Union.

A similar situation occurred in the UK, again brought about by the disrespectful attitude of drivers. Belisha beacons were first used to protect zebra crossings in the London area and, following the Road Traffic Act 1934, were rolled out nationally in 1935. In those days, drivers were far more courteous, and would stop to allow pedestrians to cross. However, since the dawn of the millennium they

In the event of being in a vehicle and approaching a pedestrian crossing where an amber light is flashing, if pedestrians are waiting to cross, or indeed crossing, then vehicles must stop to allow the pedestrians to continue. However, due to changing driver attitudes, it would appear that stopping is becoming less of the norm, which is putting pedestrians at risk.

When the situation appears, green for pedestrians, amber for vehicles, “the priority is for pedestrians, but drivers often ignore this and tend to speed up, with the consequent danger of being run over.”

have been reducing on the roads at some considerable pace, with many thousands having been replaced by higher-tech pelicans (red, amber and green lights for drivers; red and green men for pedestrians) and puffins (like pelicans, but with added sensors).

definitive elimination of the amber light, but they assure that they are considering taking measures in this regard to improve safety.

As for right turns for vehicles on roads with a single lane in each direction of traffic, the green phase for vehicles and the amber phase for pedestrians may be maintained, but maintaining the green phase for at least 5 seconds, red for vehicles and green for pedestrians. Another solution, adds Ana Blanco, would be to replace the intermittent green phase for pedestrians with counters. And if the pedestrian demand is less than 150 pedestrians/hour, it is advisable to enable push-button traffic lights.

Could the End be in Sight for the Flashing Amber Light?

For example, a measure that the DGT could adopt would be not to use them in sections outside intersections or those that have right turns for vehicles on roads with more than one lane. In these cases, the green phase for pedestrians must coincide with the red phase for vehicles.

At the moment, the DGT has not made an official decision on the

After a study in Burgos and another in Benidorm (Alicante), the danger of

According to the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), “The danger is in the amber,” and in particular when pedestrians are given the green light to proceed, when vehicles are presented with the flashing amber. Despite the rule being quite clear that the vehicles must stop, changing driver attitude is resulting in this signal becoming disrespected by drivers.

According to the DGT, in 2020, 35 pedestrians died and 198 were hospitalised after being run over at a traffic-light-controlled crossing. In 2019 (the last without a pandemic), these figures were even higher: 47 deaths and 317 hospitalised injuries.

being run over as a pedestrian was verified, for which it was recommended “to suppress or modify some times of these traffic lights”. The proposed solution in this regard is to “keep the vehicular traffic light red throughout the green pedestrian phase”, that is, at all times the traffic light is red for vehicles while the green one is on for pedestrians. The Deputy Director of Circulation of the DGT, Ana Blanco, has pointed out that the problem that occurs at these intersections is the contradictory message that is sent to drivers and pedestrians.

In 2011, the AA spoke of the problem being driver attitude, “Essentially, drivers don’t take as much notice of zebra crossings as they should because there’s no red light telling them to stop, and pedestrians don’t feel as safe as they do with a signal telling them when to cross,” said Andrew Howard, the AA’s head of road safety.Ofcourse, although driver attitude has played a huge part in this change, it is important to point out that pedestrians also have responsibilities, and, for example, must not just step out in front of vehicles, but should check that it is safe to cross first.

A good indicator that wehave to change the blades is when we see that the sweep leaves streaks or produces noise. The wear itself ends up damaging or hardening them, but it becomes more pronounced with changes in temperature. Therefore, they should be checked more frequently if the car sleeps on the street.

Replacing the blades is a simple task that we can do ourselves. Although you can also go to a workshop if you’re not confident.Ifwe choose to change them ourselves, we can find the part in hypermarkets or in quick repair shops, but we must make sure that it is compatible with our car. Be that as it may, it is always advisable not to skimp on the price: the higher their quality, the longer they will last and the better they will clean.

The outer area can be cleaned thanks to the wiper blades and windshield washer fluid, so it is advisable to have a refill ready to replace it if it is depleted.

Since what most affects the behaviour of the car and the driver is visibility and grip, there are certain components that must be in good condition before the arrival of autumn and winter. For this reason, it is worth checking various elements of the vehicle.Check the windows and that they are in optimum condition, and free from anything that obscures all-round visibility.Firstof all, clean them. If the windscreen or the rear window are dirty, they favour fogging with the arrival of cold and rain. Therefore, the front window must be clean both outside and inside.

Windscreencleaner.wipers are essential in case of rain, as it evacuates the water

We have already seen one or two showers this month, but as September and October are known for rain, it is a good idea for us to be prepared.

If the front window is dirty inside, it can also prevent proper vision, especially at dusk or dawn due to how the light falls on the glass. To clean it, the ideal is to use a damp microfiber cloth or similar so as not to scratch it. And if it is not enough, you can choose to use a glass

However, the health of the tyre is important in general: we must ensure that it does not have bumps or irregular wear (for example, if they are more worn on the sides, it may be due to incorrectPressurealignment).matterstoo. Another aspect that affects more pronounced or uneven wear is driving without having the correct pressure in the wheels. In addition, driving with inadequate pressure increases the risk of a blowout and can lead to incorrect water drainage.Themost modern cars have sensors that indicate the loss of pressure below the established values, which are usually indicated in the car manual, on the side of the door or on the fuel tank cap. However, whether you have this device or not, it is recommended to check the optimum tyre pressure if you are going to make a long trip (as it varies depending on the load).

We can inflate the tyres at most petrol stations, but we can also use a portable inflator: there are various types and prices, some have a built-in battery while others are plugged into the car’s 12V socket or a conventional outlet.

If this is not the case, there is a risk of suffering from the dreaded aquaplaning: an effect that causes the tyre to stop being in contact with the asphalt as a film of water forms between the wheel and the surface.

These devices are a good option, since the pressures must always be checked with the tyre as cold as possible, since if they are hot the measurement is not reliable.

The regulations require that the depth of the grooves be at least 1.6 mm. It can be checked with gauges, but we can also use a one-euro coin: if it is inserted into the groove and the gold frame in the lower area is covered, the tyre can still be used.

Tyre wear is essentially caused by use, which reduces the tread and therefore the depth of the grooves. Therefore, the DGT recommends replacing these elements after about 40,000 km.

It is important that we get our car ready for autumn and winter: checking certain elements of the vehicle so that they operate correctly can help us avoid scares and incidents.

Like the windows, these friction elements must be in good condition, because if their rubber is damaged, they will not evacuate the water correctly, leaving residues that impede vision or even cause glare.

If rains are common in our area, the windshield wipers can be reinforced by applying a water-repellent treatment to the glass. Thus, there are sprays and liquids for this purpose, which are applied to the windscreen. You can also opt for a windshield washer fluid that includesAlthoughit. the correct maintenance of the car’s wheels is vital throughout the year, when the rain enters the equation, the condition of the tyres is even more important.Inthewet it is essential that the tread grooves are deep enough to effectively dislodge water and compromise grip as little as possible.

What should you check in your car?

To remove this dirt again you can use a damp cloth or sponge. Avoid more aggressive elements: for example, a brush with metal bristles can damage them. Similarly, if it does not come out with water, you can use neutral soap or window cleaner.

It’s almost a year to the day that they were bottom of the Championship and Cooper took over - and we know what happened next otherwise they’d not be getting a mention here. There’s a reason Leicester sit bottom. They are really, really bad at several things that help you win football matches - in particular, defending. They needed a second chance to lead for all of a minute after Youri Tielemens saw his penalty saved by Lloris who had come off his line fractionally but from that moment onwards they collapsed like melted chocolate. The club has a specialist set-piece coach and he should probably go before Brendan given the impact he’s had sorting out one of the Foxes’ main issues. Or maybe Spurs’ corner guru is better than Leicester’s corner guru? I don’t know anything more than Danny Ward is not a very good goalkeeper.

I said a few weeks ago that Antonio Conte’s best trick so far this season was making Heung-Min Son disappear. Of course, a true conjurer then makes the missing rabbit reappear as if, you know, by magic. Conte pulled his South Korean rabbit out of a hat having left him on the bench for much of Tottenham’s victory over Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester. Sent on with a bit of time left to “have an impact” Son promptly netted a hat-trick - the third having some added drama as we waited to see if VAR was going to allow it or not. It’s was refreshing to see VAR (and the actual facts) fall on the right side of the potential storyline for once.
