Parks and garden spaces to cost the costa 4.5 million

The management of parks and green spaces in Orihuela Costa is set to incur signi cant expenses for the municipality, with an estimated cost

of almost 4.5 million euros over the next three years. This includes 1.5 million euros from 2025 to 2028, along with an additional 1.4 million for the

current year. However, this gure may decrease depending on the timing of the launch of garden maintenance and conservation services, as indicated in a technical report published on the City Council’s electronic notice board.

The decision to make the management public (to be undertaken by the company Ildo) received approval during the February plenary session, with votes in favour from PP, Vox, and Cambiemos. This move followed a requirement to demonstrate that such a change would be more sustainable and e cient.

A commissioned economic report concluded that outsourcing the service to the Ildo company would result in lower costs (1.7 million euros) compared to municipal self-management (1.9 million euros).

As a result, the City Council abandoned the ongoing tender process, compensating 500 euros to the three companies that had participated. This decision was justi ed on the grounds of public interest, highlighting a potential savings of 3.5 million euros. The contract, one of the most complex and contentious in recent years, had previously been proposed by the PSOE and Ciudadanos government team for 10 million euros over ve years. However, this proposal was set aside by the current bipartite administration of PP and Vox, citing the City Council’s existing experience in direct service provision.

Notably, the tender process faced several challenges. Two municipal technicians refused to evaluate o ers due to perceived complexity. Consequently, an external report was sought, but encountered di culties in securing unbiased expertise. The Valencian Anti-Fraud Agency is investigating alleged irregularities in the tender process, particularly concerning the selection of external professionals and their interactions with commercial entities involved.

Legal concernsMeanwhile, the provision of services through the

private company Actúa has been operating without a contract for seven years, prompting administrative and legal concerns. This situation has led to minimal service provision to avoid objections from the intervention department, alongside numerous complaints from residents about the quality of service.

Furthermore, a court in Orihuela is investigating potential administrative malpractice following a complaint led by Cambiemos councillors. Allegations include irregularities in lifting intervention objections without re-tendering the service, implicating former councillors of Human Resources and Infrastructure from Ciudadanos.

This management service impacts over 2.5 million square meters, 213 green areas in Orihuela Costa, and approximately 7,000 palm trees. Plans to increase the workforce for green area maintenance from 12 to 30 employees are outlined in the new speci cations.

CLARO welcomes investment for Orihuela Costa

In a meeting of its Executive Committee C.L.A.R.O evaluated the investment proposals for Orihuela Costa in the Budget for 2024 presented by the Popular Party-Vox coalition government and expected to be approved in the near future in a Plenary meeting of the Council.

The municipality has been forced to live with carry over budgets for the last 6 years an the budget for 2024 represents a €40 million increase in expenditure compared to 2018. This €40 million increase is entirely due to €40 million increase in investments, with 30%, €12.6 million devoted to Orihuela Costa. The €40 million will be nanced by borrowing within legal limits. After years of budgetary starvation, C.L.A.R.O. welcomes this commitment to meet the needs of the coast.

It is noteworthy that the speci c investment proposals are based on the electoral programme of the Popular Party agreed with C.L.A.R.O who supported the Popular Party in its success at last year’s election. As has been widely reported these speci c

proposals include: a new facility for drinking water storage, the much needed pedestrian bridge over the AP-7 in Lomas de Cabo Roig, and a new auditorium-cultural centre in the centre of Orihuela Costa. There are also proposals for tarmacking many roads, renovation of public lighting, provision of compensation for the expropriation of the closed walkway between Cabo Roig and Aguamarina, and the second phase of the completion of the Emergency Services Centre which would provide a base for the emergency services ambulance SAMU. There are also funds for other additions and improvements in the infrastructure of the coast.

The Executive Committee also drew attention to the provision in the budget proposals for another €6.8 million for general services which would also bene t Orihuela Costa.

C.L.A.R.O is satis ed with these ambitious investment proposals for Orihuela Costa. Obviously, this is the rst budget to be proposed by the new coalition government and there are other needs to be met. Alongside the

Second runway for Alicante

Carlos Mazón, President of the Generalitat Valenciana, announced the forthcoming presentation of a comprehensive impact and necessity study for the construction of a second runway at the Alicante-Elche-Miguel Hernández Airport. This study, a collaborative e ort between the Generalitat Valenciana and the Chambers of Commerce, is slated for presentation by the end of April or early May.

Mazón underscored the importance

of conducting the study with rigor and professionalism, utilising data to justify the need for ambitious infrastructure projects. He emphasised that the tourist capacity of the Valencian Community is indisputable and that the study will delineate both the opportunities to be seized and the potential losses incurred by failing to act.

Calling for unity among political, economic, and social forces, Mazón stressed the strategic signi cance of

already announced proposals for a new contract and considerably increased funding for maintenance of parks and gardens in Orihuela Costa with the non-pro t organisation ILDO and the commitment to undertake the reforms necessary to reopen the second coastal Civic Centre at Ramon de Campoamor, closed for 4 years, C.L.A.R.O is convinced of the commitment of the new Popular Party led government to keep its promises to make sweeping reforms and improvements in the quality of life of residents of Orihuela Costa.

the second runway for the future of the Valencian Community and Spain as a whole. These remarks were delivered during the inauguration of the new Easyjet base at the Alicante-Elche-Miguel Hernández Airport, the airline’s fourth headquarters in Spain.

Highlighting the resurgence of tourism in the Valencian Community, Mazón likened it to returning to the Champions League, emphasizing the need to support this vital sector with infrastructure enhancements such as the proposed second runway.

Expressing concerns over unequal treatment, Mazón called for Alicante to

receive equitable treatment compared to other autonomous communities. He noted disparities where some airports in Spain, serving fewer passengers, already possess a second runway, while Alicante, with over 16 million passengers, remains without one.

Mazón outlined the two key requirements for transforming the Alicante-Elche-Miguel Hernández Airport into the international airport it aspires to be: a rail connection and a second runway. He lamented that the airport is the only one in Europe lacking these essential features.

Coast and city criminals caught

The Orihuela Local Police made two arrests in as many hours, one on the Oriola coast and another in the central area of the city. In the rst incident, o cers apprehended an Irish national suspected of damaging vehicles. The individual allegedly caused signi cant harm to eight parked vehicles on Cuba Street in Orihuela Costa, smashing windows and headlights. Prompt action by the Local Police patrol on the coast led to the arrest of the suspect, who was found in possession of a heavy-duty ‘U’ type padlock believed to have been used in the vandalism.

The second incident took place in the Carrefour parking lot in the centre of Orihuela’ City, where police intercepted an individual attempting to steal fuel from several parked vehicles. The suspect employed various tools to tamper with the tank caps of these vehicles and once they were open, tried to syphon the fuel into a canister.

Aware of the in ux of individuals with criminal intent during Holy Week festivities, the Orihuela Local Police remain vigilant, as they recognise that some may exploit events and the general increase in population numbers to engage in unlawful activities.

EasyJet Lands at Alicante Airport

Budget airline EasyJet inaugurated its new base at Alicante-Elche Airport recently, heralding the launch of 10 new routes as part of its expansion plans.

The start of one of these routes, connecting Alicante and Glasgow, actually began last Sunday, operating from a plane stationed at the Costa Blanca airport.

A ceremony held at the terminal last Wednesday saw the presence of EasyJet’s Southern Europe General Manager, Javier Gandara, alongside political gures led by

Valencian President, Carlos Mazon.

According to EasyJet, the establishment of the new base will generate around 100 jobs, with 22 routes slated for operation and an anticipated o ering of 1.5 million seats during the peak season, marking a 10% increase.

The base will operate seasonally, running from April to October.

“Until now, Alicante was one of our most popular destinations without a base,” stated Javier Gandara, emphasising that this new commitment will enable

enable the airline to further expand and solidify its presence in Spain.

The seasonal nature of the base will a ord EasyJet the exibility to adjust to market demands, allowing them to reinforce existing routes and explore new markets previously deemed inaccessible.

The newly introduced routes will connect Alicante with Glasgow, Southampton, and Belfast, along with the revival of the Newcastle service. Additionally, ights to Zurich, Prague, Lyon, Lille, Nantes, and Nice will be introduced.

History, nature and fun

The Department of Tourism for Orihuela City Council has presented the tourist routes for the month of April. These routes o er a combination of classic guided tours, nature experiences and activities designed for the little ones. The rst route, “Orihuela and the Catholic Monarchs”, was held on 6th April at the Santo Domingo Diocesan School.

will be able to enjoy the mountain route along the Sendero de San Miguel on 14th April, an opportunity to connect with the natural environment of Orihuela.

The Diocesan Seminary of San Miguel is also taking the leading in the routes of the month of April, according to the Councilor for Tourism, Gonzalo Montoya, “people really enjoy this route, both tourists and neighbours.” Likewise, the Department of Tourism has organised routes around the gure of the poet Miguel Hernández, on 7th and 28th April. Art also has its space with the “Art through the Churches” route on 13th April, o ering a unique look at the city’s ecclesiastical heritage.

Finally, on the April routes, attendees are invited to enjoy a Cultural Walk through the Palmeral Interpretation Centre on 21st April, where they will learn about the importance of this historical heritage.

In summary, the tourist routes for the month of April are designed for all audiences and tastes, inviting residents and visitors to discover the cultural and natural wealth of Orihuela.

Drought still plagues Spain

Spain is grappling with exacerbated water shortages despite recent rainfall replenishing reservoirs, as an unusually warm winter ampli es the impacts of drought, hinting at a broader environmental crisis. According to data released by Spain’s national meteorological agency, Aemet, January, February, and March of 2024 are likely to mark the warmest rst quarter since records began in 1961.

Aemet recently reported that mainland Spain experienced an average temperature of 9.5°C during the rst three months of the year, surpassing the historical average by 1.9°C and surpassing the previous record set in 1997 by 0.1°C. Although nal con rmation awaits pending data, Aemet believes that the rst quarter of 2024 stands as the warmest on record, with January particularly noteworthy for registering temperatures nearing 30°C, making it the warmest January since 1961.

However, this unseasonable warmth has exacerbated the severe drought conditions experienced in several regions across Spain. In February, Barcelona declared a drought emergency, imposing stringent water restrictions in its surrounding areas. Andalusia witnessed precarious drops in reservoir levels through the rst two months of the year, prompting concerns about water scarcity.

Despite March seeing heavy rainfall, Spain remains vulnerable to drought. Teresa Ribera, Minister for the Ecological Transition, cautioned against

complacency, noting that while recent rains were welcome, certain regions, particularly the Mediterranean basins of Andalusia and Catalonia, continue to face water scarcity concerns.

The recent heavy rainfall from Storm Nelson provided some reprieve, boosting reservoir levels to 63.1% of capacity, up 5.3% from the previous week. While this brought relief to Andalusia, where the regional President Juanma Moreno expressed optimism about the drought emergency not escalating further, other regions like Catalonia are still grappling with prolonged drought conditions.

In Catalonia, reservoir levels have seen only marginal improvements, with the Ter-Llobregat system supplying the Barcelona and Girona area still well below normal levels. More than 200 municipalities in Catalonia declared a state of emergency in February after enduring three years of drought, with o cials indicating that lifting water restrictions would require reservoir levels to reach 27-28%.

As Spain braces for summer, the recent heavy rainfall o ers only temporary relief, highlighting the severity of the ongoing water crisis. Scientists warn that such extreme weather uctuations, from drought to heavy rainfall, are becoming increasingly common due to climate change. A study published last year identi ed Europe as one of seven regions experiencing worsening trends in this regard, underscoring the urgent need for sustainable water management strategies to mitigate future risks.

Foreigners flock to Spain

Spain has reached a historic milestone with nearly 8.8 million foreigners welcomed into its borders as of January 2024, according to data from the Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE). This in ux, representing over 17% of Spain’s total population, signi es a signi cant demographic shift, highlighting the nation’s evolving multicultural landscape.

With a total population reaching 48.5 million, a record high, Spain is witnessing an estimated annual growth of 507,548 individuals, with the majority attributed to the increasing number of foreign-born residents, as reported by INE.

The foreign population, totalling 8,775,213, has surpassed that of Spanish nationals, partly fuelled by naturalization processes. Over the last quarter, foreign residents increased by 72,504 to reach 6,491,502, while Spanish population growth remained more modest at 13,366.

Eurostat’s data ranks Spain among the top ten European nations with the highest foreign populations, standing alongside countries such as Luxembourg, Malta, and Cyprus.

A recent study by Statista identi es Moroccans as the most prominent foreign nationality in Spain, based on 2023 data. Other notable immigrant groups include Colombians, Italians, and British citizens. The last quarter of 2023 witnessed signi cant arrivals from Colombia, Venezuela, and Morocco, further diversifying Spain’s cultural fabric.

Concurrently, there has been a

notable uptick in the acquisition of Spanish citizenship, with a 21.6% increase reported in 2022. Leading countries of origin for new Spanish citizens include Morocco, Colombia, and Ecuador. While Spain attracts a growing number of foreigners annually, the trend of Spanish emigration is also noteworthy. The number of Spanish residents abroad has surged to nearly 2.9 million, re ecting a burgeoning global diaspora. Notable emigrant groups include Spanish nationals, Moroccans, and Romanians, with signi cant departures observed in the last quarter of 2023.

Implications and Cultural Appeal

As Spain continues to solidify its position as a global immigration hub, these demographic shifts underscore the nation’s burgeoning cosmopolitan identity and its

interconnectedness with the broader world. Renowned for its long hours of sunshine, mild winters, vibrant festivals, and historic landmarks, Spain o ers a diverse tapestry of cultural delights. Moreover, its relatively budget-friendly cost of living compared to other Western European countries attracts expatriates seeking to maintain a high quality of life without straining their nances.

Spain’s embrace of expatriates is evident in its large and diverse expat communities, which foster integration and a sense of belonging. As Spain’s foreign population continues to grow, the nation’s multicultural landscape promises to further enrich its societal fabric, reinforcing its position as a welcoming destination for individuals from around the globe.

GBP

Towards the end of March, the pound faced headwinds following a promising start to the year, experiencing losses against most G10 currencies. The drop in value followed some softer data releases, including the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) in ation data, which came in 0.1% lower than anticipated and now sits at 3.4%.

Although this is still above the Bank of England’s 2% target, this gure represented a signi cant decrease from the previous month’s 4%, signalling a potentially quicker-than-expected return to normality.

As expected, the Bank of England voted to maintain interest rates at 5.25% in the monetary policy decision that followed the in ation data. However, Governor Andrew Bailey also suggested that the UK economy was moving towards the point where the Bank of England could start cutting rates.

As a result of these developments, the pound dipped to its lowest levels against the euro since January, with interbank rates touching 1.1599 before a market correction. Similarly, GBP/USD experienced a downward trend, falling from 1.28 to 1.2577.

O cial statistics released at the end of March con rmed the UK’s technical recession in the second half of last year. The O ce for National Statistics reported a 0.3% quarter-on-quarter GDP contraction between October and December 2023, consistent with initial estimates.

This con rmation further challenges Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s economic growth agenda, overshadowing his e orts to stimulate the economy. However, the start of 2024 seems to be more positive, with a 0.2% monthly increase in GDP in January, driven by a surge in high street and online spending.

There are also signs of relief in the UK as shop prices hit a two-year low, according to data released on 2nd April. Retailers appeared to have slashed prices on Easter treats, clothing, and electrical goods to attract consumers after a slowdown in spending.

The data, released by the British Retail Consortium

GBP / EUR UPDATE

(BRC) and NielsenIQ, showed prices in March increasing by just 1.3% annually, a signi cant drop from February’s 2.5% and marking the slowest pace since December 2021. Non-food in ation also plummeted to 0.2% from 1.3% the previous month, while food in ation moderated to 3.7% from 5%. The next CPI in ation data release in the UK is scheduled for 17th April.

EUR

Only the ECB will be meeting in April among the major central banks; however, this month’s critical data may give us a better or changing view of the interest rate path. The key factors will be in ation and economic growth. These will feed into policymakers’ decisions going into the second half of the year.

In Europe, the European Central Bank (ECB) left interest rates unchanged for the fourth consecutive meeting, maintaining them at 4%. ECB President Christine Lagarde reiterated the bank’s commitment to ensuring su ciently restrictive rates to achieve its 2% in ation target. However, policymakers hinted at the possibility of a rate cut in June, with market expectations pointing towards three 25 basis point cuts this year, potentially bringing rates down to 3.25%.

According to Eurostat, Eurozone CPI in ation data presents a mixed picture across the bloc, hovering around 2.8% year-on-year. April’s in ation gures were released on 3rd April, coming in below economists’ forecasts and showing a month-on-month decline to 2.4% in March, continuing the downward trend from the previous month’s 2.6%.

While Europe has managed to avoid a recession, GDP growth stagnated at 0.0% for Q4 2023, with Germany and Ireland dragging down the gures.

Guardia Civil closes down “pink cocaine” sales aimed at Guardamar youngsters

The Civil Guard has arrested two men in Guardamar del Segura who are believed to be running a retail drug sales point aimed mainly at minors whom they recruited through one of those involved. They prepared and sold doses of cocaine, hashish, marijuana and other designer drugs.

The investigation began at the end of November 2023, when residents of the town of Guardamar del Segura alerted the Civil Guard of a possible crime of drug tra cking whose sales were directed to minors. The agents then located an apartment, located in the heart of the urban area, where they observed an unusual in ux of young people at odd hours.

As the investigation advanced, they found out that the alleged perpetrators were two. The ringleader, a 33-year-old man, was in charge of obtaining the substances and, although in theory he was a orist, the agents veri ed that in reality this company was

ctitious and was used exclusively to launder money from criminal activity. The second person involved was a 17-year-old young man, in charge of attracting clients, mostly minors. Both prepared and sold the doses, either from their home (the apartment located by the agents), or even in the middle of a public street. As their audience was mainly minors, they went to attract them to parks, near schools and near game rooms.

Once the evidence was collected, and with judicial authorization, on March 21, the house was entered and searched, in which, among other e ects, 100 grams of cocaine, 291 grams of hashish, 70 grams of marijuana and 5 grams of “pink cocaine” or “tusi” , in addition to all the material used for the cutting and distribution of the substances. Additionally, in one of the four rooms of the apartment, the agents located a plantation with 33 marijuana plants. What is known as “pink cocaine”

or “tusi” is, most of the time, an unpredictable mixture of ketamine, MDMA and other substances, capable of producing very serious toxic e ects.

Two men, aged 33 and 17, of Spanish nationality, have been arrested. They are charged with a crime against public health for drug tra cking. In addition, the 33-yearold man is charged with money laundering. After being placed at the disposal of the Investigative Court number 3 of Torrevieja and the Juvenile Prosecutor’s O ce of Alicante, the 17-year-old male has been placed in a juvenile center, with the other being released with charges.

The operation has been developed by the investigation area of the Guardamar del Segura Civil Guard Post, which has had the support of the Citizen Security Unit of the Alicante Command (USECIC) and the Cynological Service, with specialist canine guides in drug and money tracking

Uncontrolled landfill denied in Benijúzar mountain area

The spokesperson for Ciudadanos in the Benejúzar City Council has denounced the existence of an “uncontrolled and illegal” land ll on the outskirts of the mountains, speci cally at the entrance to the petanque courts and near the institute.

As the councilor explained, it is a very busy area and leaves a “desolate image” because in it we can see a City Hall collection area that for months has been accumulating debris and all kinds of belongings and elements such as deteriorated benches and tables, remains of rubber and arti cial grass, pipes, plastic drums, metal or wooden structures, among others.

García has pointed out that “we understand that the City Council must have a provisional collection area where debris from clearing or similar can be left and after a while removed to the legally corresponding dumping point, but nothing is further from the truth, the months go by and in Instead of removing it, the city council continues to collect more remains of whatever it may be, turning our most precious environment into an illegal land ll.” Given this situation, Ciudadanos has noti ed the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA).

The mayor of Benejúzar,

Vicente Cases, wanted to respond to the news that appeared today denouncing the alleged presence of an illegal land ll in a municipal material collection area near the Sierra de Benejúzar. The rst mayor of Benejuca has dismantled, one by one, the arguments given by an opposition group and has criticized “the fact that they denounce the existence of a land ll with materials such as rubber from a park, speci cally the one that was removed from the Plaza de Spain when this group carried out government work, or of electoral ballots, boards for the posters or blackboards of an election that, also in the previous municipal mandate, they were in charge of organizing and should also have been in charge of collecting.

Cases wanted to dismantle one by one the arguments given by previous municipal o cials and has assured that in this collection area the current government team has only allowed the debris from the recovery work of a pipeline next to the main entrance of the institute to be left. , a few meters from that collection area, “which have been deposited there provisionally by the company that carried out the work and which will be removed in the coming days.” From there, he

reported that everything related to the elections, the remains of the playground “renovated with the Plan + Cerca of the Provincial Council and which was inaugurated last May, before we formed a government” . In the same situation, he indicated, are the toilets “that resulted from another work of the same provincial plan that was carried out in the locker rooms in the football eld area and that were also inaugurated before our arrival at the local government, and the The same case is that of the toilets in the leisure area, which were also renovated in the previous municipal mandate.”

The mayor has admitted that this is waste that must be removed and that it will be removed in due course, but once again he regretted that “accusations are made against the municipal government that I preside over without any basis and, above all, knowing that what is “He says it is not true since it is waste actually deposited months ago, speci cally before I was mayor of Benejúzar.” Given this, he has asked for seriousness “and that opposition work be carried out responsibly without trying to confuse the citizens of Benejúzar.”

Sheerin’s Golf Society Raises €1200 For Charity

Sheerin’s Golf Society (formally known as Imanyo’s Golf Society) formed in October 2014, once we were established we started raising money for charity in 2016 and have donated to various charities over the years.

Mad Hatters tea party raises 661 euros

The recent Mad Hatters Tea Party” at the Marina Bar calle de las Rosas raised 661 Euros for the charity ‘Donacions Torevieja & Alrededores’.

A Ra e, and drinks Tombola (Tombooza) helped the takings along as too the generous donations from many people attending the event.

The picture shows the donations being presented to Michele Masson & Sue Birchenough for Help Vega Baja, Marion Smith for Movers & Shakers and Don’s on behalf of A.E.C.C.

www.sheerinsgolfsociety.com

In 2023 we decided to support A.E.C.C. Cancer Care, Help Vega Baja and Movers & Shakers. The money was raised through various events, ra es, football cards and extremely kind donations and we managed to reach a fantastic total of €1,200 so each charity received €400 bringing our grand donation total to €10,770, this could never have been reached without the support of our members, friends and of course Dons who is our Charity Secretary, more fondly known as our Charity Queen.

sheerinsgolfsociety@gmail.com

The expert team at the Marina Bar were as usual on top form catering for the delicious afternoon tea and also kindly donated monies to the charity.

Organisers David and Lorraine Whitney were at the fore as per usual and were thrilled with the takings which will

help this worthwhile charity to continue their good work helping with local poor families. Raquel Tomas Ignacio of the charity called into the bar to show her gratitude and to witness the support shown by all in attendance. A big thank you must go out to everybody who donated gifts, drinks, and money to make this afternoon a fun and rewarding event for the charity.

On an Android phone photos and videos are stored in the phone’s internal storage or an SD Card if tted.

Cloud Storage can also be used to backup photos and videos.

On an iPhone you can also backup photos and videos to iCloud.

If you are using an Android phone and are logged in to a Google account, all photos and videos are automatically uploaded to Google Photos.

Google Photos can be used on Android and Apple devices to automatically backup photos and videos.

Google Photos is a photo-sharing and storage service developed by Google.

Google Photos shares 15 gigabytes of free storage space with other Google services, such as Google Drive and Gmail. Users can upload their photos and videos in either quality settings, original or compressed (photos and videos up to 16 megapixels and 1080p resolution, respectively), which will count towards the free storage limit. The service automatically analyses photos, identifying various visual features and subjects. Users can search for anything in photos, with the service returning results from

three major categories: People, Places, and Things.

Di erent forms of machine learning in the Google Photos service allow recognition of photo content, automatically generate albums, animate similar photos into quick videos, surface memories at signi cant times, and improve the quality of photos and videos.

Quiron Torrevieja leads way in advanced robotic surgery

The goal is to o er your patients more precise surgeries, with less postoperative pain and a much faster recovery than the rest of the surgical techniques

The Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital has launched the rst Advanced Robotic Surgery Unit in the private health sector in the province of Alicante, incorporating the most advanced model of Da Vinci robot. The hospital has extensive experience in robotic surgery, since 15 years ago it was one of the pioneering hospitals in Spain in implementing and training its surgeons in the use of this technology.

The Da Vinci robotic surgical system is designed to o er minimally invasive surgery of the highest level in the approach of complex pathologies in the area of specialties such as Urology, General and Digestive System Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Oncological Surgery and Gynaecological Surgery.

The robotic surgical system has a camera arm and 3 mechanical arms, and surgical instruments mounted on them that are controlled by the surgeon while sitting in front of a computer console within the operating room itself.

The system also has a vision tower that processes the image, providing a real, magni ed and 3D view of the surgical eld that allows the surgeon to perform more complex procedures with greater precision, exibility and control compared to conventional techniques.

As Dr. Rosa Mª Cañón, medical director of the Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital, points out, “the incorporation of the Da Vinci robotic system represents a great qualitative advance in the hospital’s surgical services, thanks to which we can o er the best quality of care and experience to our patients, who will bene t from less invasive surgeries with less risk of side e ects such as infection, minimal scarring and shorter admissions”.

Urological Robotic Surgery in Alicante

Thanks to the Da Vinci robotic surgery system, Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital o ers the best treatment and results for patients with prostate cancer who require a radical prostatectomy.

“To perform it,” explains Dr. Sven Petry, head of the Urology Service at the Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital, “only small incisions in the skin of 0.5 to 1 cm in length are necessary through which we can perform, guided by the high-de nition camera, the complete removal of the prostate with an optimal level of precision.”

Regarding the many advantages o ered by robotic urological surgery, Dr. Sven Petry highlights a greater recovery of urinary continence, whose success rates thanks to the robot reach 97% compared to 88%, as well as a complete recovery from erectile dysfunction of traditional surgery.

Another bene t is the rapid recovery of the patient who, after discharge, can lead a completely normal life, four weeks after the intervention.

The specialist in urological robotic surgery at Hospital Quirónsalud Torrevieja also recommends this technique for the treatment of bladder cancer, kidney cancer or genital prolapse due to its excellent results and postoperative advantages.

Advanced Robotic Surgery for Malignant and Benign Pathologies

The Da Vinci robotic surgery system has proven to be the best instrument for the multidisciplinary treatment of benign or malignant pathologies. These surgeries include hepatobiliary surgery, oesophageal-gastric surgery, colorectal surgery, metabolic surgery for obesity and abdominal wall surgery.

Within this section of robotic surgery,

Dr. Pedro Bretcha, head of the General Surgery and Digestive System Service at Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital, highlights the results achieved by this technique in the treatment of colorectal cancer. As Dr. Bretcha explains, “thanks to robotic surgery in the treatment of colorectal cancer, we can perform a much more precise resection of the tumour while maintaining the principles of proper cancer surgery and preserving the surrounding healthy tissue. In addition to achieving less blood loss, a lower risk of infections due to the small size of the incisions made, as well as less postoperative pain, a shorter hospital stay and a quick return to daily activities.”

Better preservation of pelvic structures thanks to robotic surgery

Another area in which robotic surgery has proven to be the best ally is in the surgical treatment of gynaecological pathologies such as hysterectomy, myomectomy, endometriosis or genital prolapse, in which it stands out “for facilitating more precious movements in narrow and delicate areas such as those that make up the female sexual and reproductive system”. says Dr. Rodolfo Martín Díaz, head of the Gynaecology Service at Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital. The bene ts

of gynaecologic robotic surgery include, but are not limited to, better preservation of pelvic structures, a very signi cant improvement in urinary incontinence and bowel and bladder control, as well as a much earlier return to daily activities.

Thoracic surgeries with less hospitalisation thanks to the Da Vinci

Thanks to the minimally invasive approach assisted with Da Vinci robotic surgery, interventions that previously required long hospitalisations for patients with pulmonary pathology can be performed on an almost outpatient basis, with hospital discharge in just 48 hours. “In addition,” says Dr. José Belda, head of the Thoracic Surgery Service at Quirónsalud Torrevieja, “the great precision of the Da Vinci’s interventions allows the treatment of benign and malignant pulmonary pathologies such as lung cancer, including lobectomies and sublobar resections, all without any detriment to oncological radicality”. Other advantages pointed out by the Quirónsalud Torrevieja specialist are less blood loss and a lower risk of postoperative infections.

Tips for your spring skincare routine

Feeling inspired by budding blossoms and warmer mornings? Us too! Why not take advantage of the spring in your step and switch up your skin routine? From tossing out old products to choosing a lighter moisturiser, we’ve got your new season transition covered with these tips.

1. Spring clean your skincare shelf

Spring means out with the old, and at the top of our ‘out’ list are those products at the back of the bathroom shelf collecting dust. Do you know what that jar symbol on your products means? This is the periodafter-opening symbol that tells you the number of months you can safely keep your product after opening it. It might be time to give that two-year-old moisturiser the boot and refresh your

trusted trio of basics: cleanser, toner and moisturiser.

2. Lighten up Springtime generally means lighter make-up. Fresh colours and minimal coverage allow your dewy summer skin to take centre stage. Switching to lighter cleansers like Micellar Cleansing Water will lightly grab away makeup and hydrate spring skin, without clogging pores or leaving a sticky residue, which can lead to unwanted breakouts. No thank you!

3. Bu away winter skin

Legs! Arms! They’re out! Maybe not just yet, but don’t forget to show them some love. As the weather gets warmer, your spring routine isn’t just about your face. Skincare all over your body helps you wave goodbye to dry,

aky winter skin in preparation for the start of summer. Use an exfoliating mitt in the shower and follow up with a moisturiser – apply immediately after towel drying for an extra hydration boost!

For your face skincare, the same rules apply. Getting a monthly hydrating facial at Indiana’s hair & lash boutique is the easiest way to exfoliate and bu away dead skin cells, which can leave spring skin looking a little dull. Ready. Set. Glow!

4. Moisturise more

Skin has been hiding. Necks and ears have snuggled under scarves and hats…until now! We so often forget these spots – but they can get really dry, dehydrated and irritated (especially from the friction of winter woollens).

Has your neck escaped from the polo neck at last? After exfoliating, moisturise one last time with a rich cream, then switch it out for a lighter non-comedogenic lotion for the new season.

Using a light lotion is one of our top spring skincare tips. Why? As temperatures ramp up, so too can our skin’s oil production. And yes, we tend to sweat more too. A lighter lotion will help to keep pores clear to avoid overloading spring skin with excess oil as the weather warms up.

5. Don’t skip the SPF in your spring skincare routine

Here comes the sun (hooray!), which means it’s time to up that SPF. OK, so we may seem a little eager – the season’s only just beginning, we know – but UVA and UVB lters can a ect your skin

through glass and clouds too.

6. Try something new

Now you’ve nailed the spring skincare basics, it’s time to have a little fun, so why not try out one of our many facials we have available at Indiana’s hair & lash boutique to help alleviate signs of dry skin. 1 hour is all it takes to get glowing spring ready skin, and you can double-up and use the time to relax and start your journey to healthier skin Why not? It’s spring after all! See? A spring skincare switch up is easier than it seems. Tweaking your routine (hello lighter lotions!) means skin is ready for the sunnier new season.

For any appointments or a free consultation telephone or message Indiana’s Hair & Lash Boutique.

Our teenager is purposefully losing and breaking her devices and other things. Her dad has coughed up for a new phone, replacement earbuds, iPad etc; she even ruins clothes so we’ll buy her new ones. Also, she is rarely off her phone, and sulks if she has to put it away. Her grandparents came over and the family chatted round the dinner table; our once delightful little girl responded with one word answers and rolling of eyes. I am getting sick to death of it. There’s advice online, but we’ve tried it and she just digs her heels in more if we don’t give her what she wants. When we went on holiday; all she did was stare in to her phone for two weeks.

What she needs is for her parents to quit enabling this behaviour. You say you’ve taken all the advice, but the advice is to hold firm and don’t waver. Otherwise you will have a very functional 20 year old on your hands, who is not able to be part of the real world. You’re not doing her any favours by letting her

have her own way. Firstly, don’t replace her devices when you suspect she is only doing it to get the latest model. The next time this happens she must be told she must pay for it herself. Have her do chores in the house for her pocket money, or she won’t learn the value of money. Next, step up on the, ‘no phones’ rule, and don’t make it only when the family gathers. Whenever there is more than one person in a room; the phones are put down.

What to look for in a snack to relieve bloating

Bloating is a common feeling that occurs when the abdomen feels full or distended. It can have several causes, such as constipation, gas or an overabundance of bacteria in the small intestine. Fiber and water are two key components of food that help reduce bloating.

Eating ber is a crucial part of digestive regularity. Fiber adds bulk to the stool and softens it, making it easier to poop. Getting the recommended 25 to 30 grams of ber per day can help prevent constipation and reduce bloating. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans and legumes are rich in ber.

Consuming foods that contain water can also help reduce bloating. Drinking water is important but eating hydrating foods, like watermelon, cucumbers, celery, lettuce and pineapple, can help you meet your hydration goals throughout the day, too.

Pineapple Green Smoothie checks all the boxes to ght bloating. It contains greens, pineapple and yogurt, three foods that can help relieve the unpleasant symptoms associated with bloating.

First, “Greens are very high in insoluble ber, which helps food move through

the digestive tract and can promote bowel movements,” says Ginger Hultin, M.S., RDN, CSO, an integrative registered dietitian nutritionist at gingerhultinnutrition.com. And as an added bonus, greens are rich in the antioxidant vitamin C, which plays a role in immune health and helps reduce bodily in ammation. Chia seeds are also a good source of ber, so it’s no wonder that just 1 cup of this green smoothie meets 35% of your daily ber needs.

The smoothie gets its sweetness from the pineapple. “This naturally sweet tropical fruit has a diuretic e ect, which helps your body get

rid of excess water faster,” says Frances Largeman-Roth, RDN, a nutrition expert and author of Everyday Snack Tray. Ridding the body of excess water may reduce fullness in the belly. “This tropical fruit speci cally has some helpful digestive enzymes, such as bromelain,” adds Hultin. Some people nd that this is soothing to the stomach and helps them digest food better.

Lastly, the yogurt has live active cultures, aka probiotics. “The active probiotics [in yogurt] will help improve your gut health and digestion over time,” according to LargemanRoth.

Fraudulent website charging for ITV appointments

• The Department of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism alerts citizens about the existence of a fraudulent website (https:// sitval.net/) that impersonates that of the ITV. This website, pretending to be legitimate, has been charging users to get fake appointments for inspections at all stations in the Valencian Community. This website has

• The Generalitat points out that it has been reported to the police authorities and that the website that pretends to be Sitval and charges in its name is owned

by the company Innovatech Holding Llc based in the state of Delaware in the United States. They remember that in this state you can create a company for little money and without having to set foot in the country.

• The Generalitat has identi ed a supposed citizen of Castellón as the representative of said company in Spain and also of the company that created the website (Camaleón Innova). Sitval does not know who the bene ciaries of the payments that users are

making for fake appointments are. Nor is it understood why it issues statements and o ers information in the name of the public service, thus increasing the confusion of those a ected.

• It is worth remembering that the Spanish Penal Code punishes crimes against industrial property with prison sentences and/or nes for those who imitate a registered trademark or logo of a product or service in order to obtain an economic bene t to the detriment of the owner of that trademark. brand.
