Torrevieja invests one million EU grant to boost tourism
Torrevieja is pushing to enhance and strengthen the city’s tourism sector by improving its international image, generating new
experiences and increasing the competitiveness of the local economy. To this end the local government board has awarded two
companies a contract for 1.1 million euros to carry out initiatives based around digital transition and competitiveness as outlined in the city’s Tourism Sustainability Plan. The budget is financed with funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the EU.
These actions aim to boost ways of providing tourist services under the ‘Smart Tourist Destination Torrevieja’ initiative, in order to boost tourist activity in the municipality, integrating all participating businesses and incorporating technology as an accelerator for the improvement of tourist services.
With this award, the City Council will be able to implement a series of plans such as the creation of a Tourism website, accessible and synchronised with the rest of the tourist mobile applications; a positioning strategy for the city in international search engines; the development of tourism intelligence platforms; creation of
products that enhance the tourism options of Torrevieja, and the establishment of a Digital Transformation office for SMEs in the sector.
The contract has a maximum duration of two years, without in any option of exceeding the deadline past 31st December, 2025. It is composed of five categories: digital communication and active listening, artificial intelligence, digital
transformation office, product club and technical assistance office.
The first four areas were awarded to the jointly submitted companies Esatur XXI and Open Minds-Open Ideas, while PW Advisory & Capital Services was awarded lot five.
For each of the lots, two execution phases are planned. The first is implementation, which includes the design, supply, installation and start-up of all the components included in the lot. The second phase, development and service, involves checking the development and execution of the service until its completion.
Continued progress
The governing board has also approved the regulations for the urban transport service, which defines stops and schedules, among other parameters, something that Alarcón has defined as “the last step” before going to commission, plenary session and public exhibition. At the same time, the City Council is working on a pricing permetres.
National police arrest Torrevieja-based robbery gang
National Police officers have dismantled a criminal group dedicated to committing robberies inside homes and have arrested its members, four men of Georgian origin, aged between 41 and 45.
The men have been arrested as the alleged perpetrators crime of robbery with forced entrance to four homes and stealing money and numerous valuable objects. The gang is also accused of trying to enter two other homes using specialised methods such as ‘bumping’, ‘impressioning’, ‘slipping’ and ‘picking’.
The investigation was undertaken by the robbery group
of the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade at the beginning of June, after receiving information from the Cartagena robbery group. The unit had detected the transfer to the city of Valencia of a criminal gang that specialised in home robberies. The gang consisted of four men of Georgian origin who had their base of operations in Torrevieja. From here they would travel to break into homes in Cartagena and the Mar Menor area. However, after being detected they changed location. After initial investigations, officers located the four suspects in a rented home in Valencia, where they tried to go
unnoticed, leading a discreet life so as not to attract the attention of the neighbours.
Two squatters injured in fire in abandoned Torrevieja building
The Alicante Provincial Fire ghters Consortium responded quickly to the re reported in a building located in Torrevieja on Saturday. The blaze began around 11:50am in a property located a few meters from the central Cura beach. The three-storey housing block has been un nished for around fteen years, but several of its apartments are regularly occupied by homeless people.
The Generalitat’s Information and Emergency Coordination Centre sent several emergency units to the scene of the accident, including two SAMU ambulances, two Basic Life Support ambulance and the medical helicopter.
On arrival, re ghters faced a re concentrated mainly in the basement
and elevator shaft, areas saturated with belongings and mattresses that fuelled the rapid spread of the ames. Three people who were on the third oor and tried to escape the ames and escape the building were injured with various burns and su ered smoke inhalation.
In the rest of the building, the people who were inside were con ned by the re crews and were later evacuated when the situation allowed it to be done safely.
Two of the occupants of the building su ered serious burns and were taken to hospital. The severity of the burns of one of the injured, a man whose age is unknown, was serious enough to warrant his evacuation in the Alpha 9 helicopter to La Fe Hospital in València.
The other casualty with severe burns was a man of around 30 years old, who was initially taken to Torrevieja Hospital in a SAMU ambulance and was then transferred to Valencian hospital by medical helicopter.
A third person, a woman, was treated for minor injuries and has been discharged.
Fire ghters continued working on ventilating the building to prevent any risk of the re reigniting. At the moment, the cause of the re is still being investigated. The Alicante Provincial Fire ghters Consortium continues to monitor the situation closely.
Barcelona to ban tourist apartment rentals
Barcelona, one of Europe’s top tourist destinations, has announced a plan to ban apartment rentals to tourists by November 2028. The move, announced by Mayor Jaume Collboni, aims to alleviate the long-standing housing crisis, lower prices for residents and increase the city’s a ordable housing stock. Over the past 10 years, the rise in short-term rentals has driven rents up by 68%, and the cost of buying a house by 38%, contributing signi cantly to a cost-of-living crisis.
The limited access to housing for residents became a driver of inequality. Now the city aims to eliminate the 10,101 tourist apartments once their license expires in a maximum of four years. The emptied apartments are expected to be used by residents, re-entering the market as long-term rentals or sales opportunities. Since 2026, no new tourist apartment licenses have been issued, and over 3,500 apartments have already been recovered as primary housing for residents. The local govern-
ment stated that it will maintain a strict inspection regime to detect illegal practices once the ban is in force.
The city says that by November 2028 it will cease issuing new licences to properties and not renew existing permits, meaning that from 2029 no homes will have permission to be rented as tourist accommodation.
The move will serve as a blow to online platforms such as Airbnb and Booking.com, who are increasingly under pressure from European cities over the impact short-term rentals are having on the housing market.
London, Dublin, Amsterdam and Paris have placed limits on the number of nights an apartment can be rented annually on the market, while Berlin went further in 2016 with a ban on short-stay lets of entire homes.
In April, Madrid announced that it will pause granting new licences for tourist ats to try and ease the pressure, and it is thought that the suspension will last until 2025.
Braille menus introduced in Benidorm
Restaurants, cafes and tapas bars in Benidorm are now o ering their menus in Braille thanks to an initiative by ABRECA, the Association of Bars, Restaurants, Cafes and Nightlife of Benidorm and the Region in collaboration with the National Organisation of the Spanish Blind (ONCE).
The employers’ association is committed to promoting accessibility and inclusion and has presented a list of the hospitality establishments that already have menus in Braille.
“These establishments have taken an important step to guarantee that all people with visual disabilities can enjoy a complete gastronomic experience without barriers ,” ABRECA said in a
statement.
The transcription of menus into Braille and their rst printing will have a very low cost thanks to the collaboration of ONCE and the subsequent copies will be free for the businesses associated with the association “ensuring that the implementation of this initiative is accessible to all”.
“By o ering menus in Braille, the establishments associated with ABRECA demonstrate a commitment to accessibility and equality, contributing to the creation of more inclusive environments in the hospitality industry in Benidorm and region,” the association concluded.
ABRECA and ONCE encourage all associated establishments to join this
initiative that will transform the way in which people with visual disabilities will enjoy all gastronomic experiences.
A small gesture that represents “a signi cant step towards a more accessible and friendly future for all people with visual disabilities that will allow them the independence that comes with access to written information and communication,” they add.
ABRECA rea rms its “commitment to diversity and equal opportunities, transforming the gastronomic experience into an inclusive space and supporting a more accessible and intelligent tourist destination.”
Tethered bottle tops made law in Spain
A new European regulation means that from 3rd July all plastic bottles in Spain will have non-removeable tops. From then, all tops for containers up to 3 litres - without exceptionmust be permanently attached to the product, marking the end of the ability to remove screw caps and some would say making it more difficult to drink directly from the bottle.
The reasoning behind the change is to ensure that the top is recycled together with the rest of the container. The environmentally friendly move
seeks to reduce the impact of products throughout their life cycle, from their conception to recycling. The top attached to the bottle or carton is officially called an ‘attached closure’, and it has seen manufacturers devising industrial engineering solutions that brands have been adapting over recent months. Coca-Cola announced its use of tethered caps more than a year ago.
However, there are still questions over the real benefit. How high is the proportion of consumers who actually dispose
of caps and bottles separately or only properly return of the bottle and throw the cap into the environment? Most people are likely to dispose of the bottle and cap together anyway by whatever means.
There tops have also caused consternation among consumers with many posing pictures of their struggles to drink from the bottle when the cap is attached are telling tales of grazed noses. But love them of loath them the tethered cap is here to stay.
UK travellers may avoid Spain due to new October rule
A UK Government survey has revealed that one in seven people might think twice about heading to continental Europe following the introduction of new EU border checks. The Department for Transport’s poll, which involved 1,584 individuals aged 16 and above, found that increased queuing or additional document checks when leaving the UK are major concerns regarding the Entry/Exit System (EES).
The findings also showed that a delay of over an hour due to the EES could lead 20% of respondents to either cancel or delay their ferry trips to the continent. Set to be implemented in October, the EES aims to enhance border security.
Travel experts are saying that although safety and security are paramount, it is crucial that the Government and the travel industry work together to make sure that people have a thorough understanding of the new system, when they come into effect and how they will impact travel.
Travellers are being advised to be prepared in case of delays on their first trip to any of the 29 European countries involved in the new system as they will need
Under the new system, non-EU nationals, including those from the UK, will have to undergo biometric registration finger printing and a photograph upon their first entry into an EU member state, with this information being kept for three years.
to have their fingerprints and facial images taken.
Once the initial data has been collected and stored for 3 years, it is then hoped that the use of automated border control checks and selfservice systems will increase the speed of processing times and improve the overall experience for all travellers.
Spanish tourism bosses expect the EES to be a small addition to the process of travel and have minimal impact on the incredibly strong demand being seen for travel this year from consumers.
Iberian Lynx is conservation success
It´s been 23 years since Spain began its conservation campaign to save the Iberian Lynx, which had been decimated in numbers with only 94 animals left. These were found in two separate populations, both in the southern region of Andalusia: 54 in Andújar (Jaén province) and 40 in Doñana (Huelva province). Currently that number has risen to more than 2,000 lynxes, among which there are 648 mature individuals, which has led the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the highest scientific authority on the environment, to change the conservation status of the feline from Endangered to Vulnerable.
There are several factors behind the success, such as an increase in the rabbit population, its preferred food, the improvement of the natural habitat, the reduction of deaths caused by man, captive breeding, and the release of specimens into the
wild. It is the second time that the IUCN has upgraded the feline’s status: in 2015 it went from being considered Critically Endangered to Endangered. Despite impressive progress, the lynx continues to face threats, experts warn, especially due to fluctuations in the rabbit population, which is easily decimated by diseases. The paradox is that, at this time, the IUCN has established that the wild rabbit is more endangered than the lynx.
Ramón Pérez de Ayala, from the conservation organization WWF, has been involved in the conservation of the species. He explained that the first releases occurred in 2011. Since then, more than 400 specimens have been released in Spain and Portugal, occupying a range of at least 3,320 square kilometres; In 2005 it was only 49 square kilometres, said the IUCN in a statement. The great expansion occurred in 2014, adds
Pérez de Ayala, with the release of lynxes in the Montes de Toledo, where the population has grown spectacularly, in Sierra Morena Oriental, in the Matachel valley (Extremadura) and in the valley of Guadiana (Portugal). “The first three years were of moderate growth, until the females born in the wild began to breed and, around 2017, exponential growth began,” he points out.
Despite the great progress made, the lynx has not yet reached a favorable status, so it is necessary to continue with the creation of new nuclei that will allow a connection between populations, something that is underway with the Life Lynx Connect program, which has received €18.7 million in funding over five years, ending in 2026. It is estimated that to achieve this, 750 breeding females are needed and in the last census of 2003, only 406 were detected.
Nine hundred and fifty five students will take the University Entrance Exams at the UMH
According to the data provided by the ViceRector for Students and Coordination of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH), after the registration period for the University Access Tests (PAU) ends, a total of 955 students will take these tests in the extraordinary call at the UMH, which will take place on July 2, 3 and 4. The number of students who, after passing the 2nd year of Baccalaureate or a Higher Level training cycle in the extraordinary call in July, have registered to take the PAU at the UMH, is 2.5% higher than that registered in the equivalent call from the previous course (932).
As usual, the number of women taking these tests, 559 (58.5%), is signi cantly higher than that of men, 396 (41.5%). 78.7% of enrolled students will take the Compulsory Phase (752), while 203 students (21.3%) will only take the Speci c Phase, either because they come from Higher Cycle Vocational Training Courses or because, after having
taken the PAU in previous calls, they are doing so again this year to improve their entrance grade.
A total of 11 Courts will be in charge of examining these students. As is customary in the UMH university district, the di erent Courts will act in a total of 9 locations distributed throughout the province of Alicante: Dénia (former headquarters of the Language School, Court 1), Benissa (Centre for Excel·lència, Court 11)
Altea (Faculty of Fine Arts, Court 2), La Nucía (university headquarters of La Nucía, Court 3), Sant Joan D’Alacant (Marie Curie Building, Sant Joan d’Alacant campus, Court 4), Elche (Altabix Building, Courts 5, 6 and 7), Orihuela-Salesas (Faculty of Social and Legal Sciences of Orihuela, Court 8) and Orihuela-Desamparados (Higher Polytechnic School of Orihuela, Court 9) and Torrevieja (Auditorium International of Torrevieja, Court 10).

The pound has stayed particularly strong recently, with UK interest rates expected to remain “higher for longer”, but the markets are still currently pricing in an interest rate cut to 5.00% on 1st August.
At the start of this week, the pound’s gains over the past two weeks have started to recede, but we should find a floor at 1.1800 on GBPEUR and 1.2650 on GBPUSD.
This week also marked the penultimate week of campaigning ahead of the General Election on Thursday 4th July. The last week was mired by ongoing reports into election data betting by people linked to Rishi Sunak or the Conservative party.
According to the latest polling data on 27th June, the Labour Party is leading the race with 40% of the vote, followed by the Conservatives with 20% and Reform UK with 16%. According to the Telegraph’s election predictor, that uses the latest polling data to forecast results for each constituency, the Labour Party could walk away with 452 seats, leaving the Conservatives with 83. This dramatically different from the last election when the Tories, under Boris Johnson, won the election with 365 seats.
In terms of significant economic events this week, the Bank of England’s Governor Andrew Bailey spoke at a press conference about the Financial Stability Report on Thursday. Bailey hit back at criticism that the Bank of England’s loose monetary policy during the pandemic had caused the cost-of-living crisis.
Bailey said: “The headline is that, even if we had had the benefit of full hindsight in the run-up to the war in Ukraine, and ample

After a relatively quiet week this week, the first round of French Parliamentary Elections are being held on Sunday. This is the first of two rounds of elections that are taking place following President Macron’s call for a snap election earlier this month.
The election is being describes as the most consequential in decades. As it stands, in two weeks France could have a far-right or a far-left government or be stuck in political deadlock.
The president himself is not up for re-election, with his second term due to end in 2027, but he could be forced to appoint a Prime Minister from another political party if his centralist alliance loses its majority.
Currently, Marine Le Pen’s hard-right National Rally party is ahead in the opinion polls for this Sunday’s election. The second round on 7th July is less predictable because of France’s complex voting system. For a candidate to win their seat outright this weekend they would have to win a majority with a turnout of over 25%. Most seats don’t have such a clear-cut winner, which means all candidates with a share of more than 12.5% of the vote stand in the second round.

New regulations for electric scooters in Spain
The rise of electric scooters on city streets is undeniable, transforming urban mobility by offering a fast and efficient alternative to public and private transportation. However, this surge in popularity has led to an increase in accidents and road conflicts, highlighting the urgent need for updated regulations to ensure the safety of all road users. In response, the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has announced a series of significant regulatory changes aimed at enhancing safety for scooter drivers, pedestrians, and other vehicles.
Minimum Age Requirement
One of the key changes is the introduction of a minimum age requirement for operating an electric scooter. Under the new regulations, individuals must be at least 16 years old to drive these vehicles. This measure aims to ensure that
users possess the necessary maturity and skills to navigate urban traffic safely.
Mandatory Helmet Use
To further enhance safety, the DGT has mandated the use of helmets for all electric scooter drivers. This requirement, long debated, is now being implemented nationally to reduce the severity of injuries in the event of an accident.
Reflective Vest Requirement
Another significant change is the obligation for scooter users to wear a reflective vest or other luminous or retroreflective elements. These measures ensure that scooter users can be seen from a minimum distance of 150 meters, which is especially crucial for those using scooters as part of their professional activities.
Awareness and Training Campaigns
The DGT will also
intensify awareness and training campaigns focused on the safe use of electric scooters. These campaigns aim to promote responsible and respectful behavior among both current and potential users. The DGT believes that road safety education, combined with the new regulations, is essential for achieving safer and more sustainable urban mobility.
Conclusion
These new regulations represent a significant step forward in addressing the safety concerns associated with the increasing use of electric scooters. By setting a minimum age, mandating helmet use, and requiring reflective gear, the DGT aims to reduce accidents and improve overall road safety. Additionally, through enhanced awareness and training campaigns, the DGT is fostering a culture of responsible scooter use, contributing to safer and more sustainable cities.
Olive oil and staple foods in Spain will have a 0% IVA sales tax until 30 September
The Spanish government is implementing several measures as part of its broader in ation-relief package, speci cally targeting sales tax (IVA) reductions and personal income tax thresholds. IVA on olive oil will be reduced from 5% to 0%, e ective 1 July. This reduction is part of a permanent inclusion of olive oil in the basic staple products category.
The 0% IVA on basic foods, including milk, bread, eggs, cheese, fruit, pulses, tubers, cereals, and natural vegetables, will continue until 30 September. From 1 October to 31 December, these foods will be subject to a 2% IVA rate. Starting 1 January, these foods will return to the super-reduced IVA rate of 4%.
IVA on pasta and seed oils is reduced from 10% to 5%. From 1 October to 31 December, the IVA rate for these products will be 7.5%. From 1 January, the rate will revert to 10%.
The personal income tax threshold has been increased to align with the rise in the Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SMI). The threshold is raised from 15,000 euros to 15,876 euros, below which no income tax will be declared or withheld. The maximum reduction for earned income has been increased from 6,498 euros to 7,302 euros.
The government estimates savings of 1.4 billion euros in personal income tax for low and middle-income earners.
Families are expected to save 1.036 billion euros as a result of the IVA reduction.
Approximately 5.2 million taxpayers will bene t from the increased income tax threshold, with speci c examples provided showing signi cant savings for individuals earning the minimum wage and average salaries.
The gradual increase in IVA rates is in response to the European Commission’s demand for a
phased withdrawal of support measures introduced due to the war in Ukraine and its impact on in ation. Despite earlier plans to reverse IVA reductions by 30 June, the extension was justi ed due to continuing high food prices. Ministers emphasized the need to support household consumption and manage the cost of essential goods, particularly olive oil, which has seen a signi cant price increase. These measures re ect the Spanish government’s e orts to mitigate in ationary pressures on essential goods while planning a gradual return to normal tax rates.
New Blood Alcohol Limit Regulation for Drivers in Spain
The DGT (DirectorateGeneral for Tra c) is nalizing new regulations to lower the allowable blood alcohol levels for drivers. Today, Minister of the Interior Fernando GrandeMarlaska highlighted that alcohol is the second leading cause of fatal accidents in Spain, responsible for 29% of road deaths.
Proposed Changes and Their Justi cation
The new measures aim to enhance road safety, particularly by reducing the alcohol limit for novice and professional drivers to 0.20 grams per liter of blood (down from 0.30) and 0.10 milligrams per liter of exhaled air (down from 0.15). This proposal follows a recommendation from the World Health Organization (WHO), emphasizing the scienti c consensus that even minimal alcohol consumption can impair driving.
Minister Grande-Marlaska emphasized that the proposal is still under consideration, pending feedback and nal adjustments to ensure it is practical and focused on improving road safety. Pere Navarro, the Director-General of Tra c, underscored that while a zero-tolerance alcohol policy is not currently planned, it remains a topic for future discussion.
New Awareness Campaign
Alongside these regulatory changes, a new awareness campaign titled “The road doesn’t care how much you’ve drunk. Only zero has zero consequences” was launched. The campaign, presented by Minister GrandeMarlaska and Director-General Navarro, aims to highlight the severe consequences of driving under the in uence of alcohol and drugs.
Minister Grande-Marlaska noted the signi cant role of alcohol in road fatalities, second only to distractions, which cause 31% of deaths, and ahead of speed, responsible for 23%. He also condemned the practice of sharing the locations of alcohol and drug checkpoints via social media, which he described as irresponsible and dangerous.
Couple arrested for having sex on a flight from Alicante
A Polish couple in their 40s was arrested after being caught having sex on a ight from Alicante, Spain, to Munich, Germany, and refusing to stop despite being spotted. The incident occurred on ight LH1849 on Wednesday, 19 June. Despite repeated requests from ight attendants to cease their activities, the couple continued and insulted the crew.
Upon landing in Munich, German federal police boarded the plane and arrested the couple, as
reported by the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper.
In- ight incidents have been on the rise, with data from the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency (Aesa) indicating that incidents occur on ights to Spain almost daily. The route between London and Alicante is noted for having the second highest number of incidents, with over 150 complaints registered in 2023 alone.
Spain prepares to reduce IVA sales tax on electricity bills once more this summer
Starting 1 July, some households in Spain may notice changes in their electricity bills as the Spanish sales tax (IVA) on electricity will decrease from 21% to 10%. This reduction will apply if the average cost of electricity generation exceeds 45 euros/MWh, which is already above 53 euros/MWh one week before 1 July, according to Iberian electricity operator OMIE.
The government’s new anti-crisis decree, e ective since January, has led to regular changes in the IVA rate on electricity bills. This decree mandates a tax rate of either 21% or 10%, depending on electricity price uctuations. Over the past six months, energy prices have been particularly volatile. Historically low electricity prices in March, April, and May, driven by a high presence of renewables, especially hydro, led to the application of a 21% IVA rate during those months.
With the new rate, a household consuming 190 kWh per month at 0.14 euros/kWh will see their bill decrease from 50.89 euros (with a 21% IVA and a 3.8% electricity tax) to 46.84 euros (with a 10% IVA and a 5.11% electricity tax). This return to a lower rate resembles the January rates, but with the electricity tax adjusted to its usual value of 5.11%.
The energy sector has expressed concerns about the variability and complexity of the IVA rate on electricity, calling for a review
of this measure. Given the price forecasts, it is likely that IVA on domestic electricity will remain at the reduced rate of 10% at least throughout the summer. Futures indicate an average of 75 euros/ MWh for July, suggesting that the reduced rate will apply to all bills issued during the month. Predictions for the third quarter (July, August, and September) and the entire year 2024 show average generation prices well above the 45 euros/MWh threshold.
The state will experience a reduction in tax revenue when this measure is fully implemented, but the impact
will not be as severe as the 2.5 billion euros loss during the peak of the crisis in 2021 and 2022.
The new regulated tari , PVPC, which includes 25% of prices contracted for the future, remains in force. This means the prices are stable but have not bene tted from recent decreases nor will they be a ected by potential increases in the coming weeks. By 2025, the xed prices of the PVPC will represent 40% of the cost, increasing to 55% by 2026, while spot indexation will decrease from 75% this year to 45% by the end of the reform.

Spanish Government Cracks Down on Unlicensed Tourist Rentals on Booking Platforms like Airbnb
The Spanish central government is intensifying e orts to combat the proliferation of illegal tourist rental properties across the country through various strategic measures. Last Wednesday, Minister of Housing Isabel Rodríguez announced a potential modi cation of the Horizontal Property Law to better control the spread of tourist ats in key city and major town districts. Following this, the Ministry of Social Rights, led by Pablo Bustinduy, invited major town halls to join an investigation into illegal tourist ats advertised on platforms like Airbnb.
The issue is particularly acute in cities like Madrid, where the city council estimates that 90% of tourist rental advertisements are
for unlicensed properties. This contributes to a severe residential housing shortage, driving up prices and displacing residents.
Minister Rodríguez emphasized the need to regulate this activity to prevent further disruptions to city life and local businesses.
The consumer a airs department has already launched an investigation into illegal advertisements on rental platforms, with potential nes for landlords reaching up to 100,000 euros. The department is now seeking collaboration with the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) to leverage local councils’ knowledge and authority in addressing the issue.
Minister Rodríguez stressed
the necessity of prioritizing residential housing use and indicated that immediate action is required beyond just building public housing. The Ministry of Social Rights aims to utilize its powers to help local councils identify unauthorized tourist accommodations more swiftly.
In conjunction with this, the department of consumer a airs has formally requested information from tourist rental websites to pinpoint properties violating regulations. This collaborative approach between various administrations is intended to ensure consumer rights are protected and that only legally compliant operations exist in the sector, ultimately preserving the habitability of cities.

Spain to prosecute drivers who share breathalyser checkpoint locations on social media
The General-Directorate of Tra c (DGT) wants to ne drivers who warn others of the location of alcohol and drug checkpoints through social media and messaging applications.
It considers this “uncivic” practice as another way of encouraging road accidents, with alcohol being the second-highest cause of deaths on Spanish roads. For now, Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska has instructed the DGT to explore ways to incorporate a ban on such warnings into legislation, following the example of countries like Switzerland and France, which have already regulated and included it in their sanctioning rules.
During a press conference held last Wednesday at the headquarters of the DGT to unveil the summer campaign, the minister took the opportunity to condemn what he described as “a sel sh and uncivil practice.”
Marlaska believes that such warnings made by “some” drivers “could allow an intoxicated driver to evade checkpoints and cause a serious accident elsewhere, a ecting innocent citizens.” He further stated that this undermines “the core of the policy against drink-driving, which is a fundamental element of road safety because it saves lives.”
This summer’s awareness campaign against road accidents is very much focused on the e ects of alcohol and drug use at the wheel. “They have been and continue to be one of the main problems for road safety both in our country and throughout Europe.” That is why the new campaign will insist on the risks of driving under the in uence of these substances. The DGT’s messages stress the idea that road safety is a personal decision, a conscious choice that every driver has to
make in order to comply with the rules and avoid road accidents. The slogan chosen is ‘The road doesn’t care how much you’ve had to drink. Only zero has zero consequences,’ appealing to the responsibility of each driver.
“We want to show the real and personal consequences of prohibited driving behaviours which shows a disregard for the community. We try to emphasise that road safety is a personal decision, that respecting safety rules is a conscious choice that must be made every time you drive,” the minister said. One of the reasons that has led the DGT to focus the campaign on this speci c message is that alcohol is still the second cause of fatal accidents in Spain, accounting for 29% of fatalities, behind only distractions at 31%, and ahead of speed, at 23%.

The interview, which left both hosts visibly struggling to maintain their composure, highlighted the Cosser family’s heartbreaking loss and their campaign for tougher laws against knife crime. My ex husband was dumped by the girl he left me for. It came as no surprise, as I knew what he was really like. When he asked if he could crash on my sofa, I felt I had no choice; it was difficult because we have a daughter together and she was pleading with me to give him a home especially as we were still living with Covid. Over time, I thought he wanted a full on relationship with me again; he was charming and I fell for it. I discovered that he was pursuing the same girl again, while still crashing on my sofa. He has been living rent free now for the past three years. I have now lost my job, and when I ask him to contribute he makes excuses about his financial situation. Our daughter is older now, and more interested in her own life rather than her father’s.
This man has clearly been using you, and the fact that he has been chasing his old girlfriend, whilst taking advantage of your hospitality is unacceptable. He has already done the dirty on you once before. Find the courage to tell him to leave, and start living your life without this parasite. Ask yourself whether you want this man to still be making a hole in your sofa in ten years time?

ealth enefits of NAD
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) is a crucial compound naturally present in the body’s cells, playing a signi cant role in various cellular functions such as regulating metabolic and in ammatory responses. It exists in di erent forms, including NAD+, the oxidized form, and NADH, the reduced form. As individuals age, NAD levels decline, leading researchers to explore the potential bene ts of NAD supplementation for alleviating symptoms of age-related conditions, enhancing muscle recovery, and addressing metabolic disorders.
Early studies indicate that NAD supplementation might o er several health bene ts, although more extensive human clinical trials are necessary to con rm these ndings. One approach to raising NAD levels involves using vitamin B3 derivatives known as NAD precursors or boosters. Two notable precursors are nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) and nicotinamide riboside (NR). These compounds are believed to increase NAD levels within the body.
Research, including both preclinical and clinical studies, has investigated the e ects of NAD precursors on health, disease, and aging. Some older animal studies suggested that NAD supplementation could extend the period during which subjects remain in good health and reduce signs of premature aging. Current research is now focusing on human clinical trials, where preliminary observations suggest that supplementation with NAD precursors like NMN and NR might help mitigate signs of aging and potentially improve overall health in older adults .
Conclusion
Microneedling involves the use of ne needles to create microinjuries on the skin’s surface. These controlled injuries trigger the body’s natural healing process, stimulating collagen and elastin production. The result is improved skin texture, reduced appearance of scars, ne lines, and wrinkles, and a more youthful and radiant complexion.
The Science Behind the Procedure
The micro-injuries caused by microneedling encourage the skin to repair itself. This process includes the proliferation of new skin cells and the remodelling of tissue, which e ectively addresses various skin concerns.
Collagen, the protein that gives skin its structure and elasticity, is central to this healing process. As we age, collagen production diminishes, leading to sagging skin and wrinkles. By boosting collagen synthesis, microneedling helps to counteract these e ects of aging.
Bene ts of Microneedling
Enhanced Skin Texture and Tone:
Regular microneedling sessions can lead to smoother and more even skin, diminishing the appearance of large pores and rough patches.
Scar Reduction:
It is particularly e ective in reducing acne scars and other forms of scarring. The new collagen lls in the depressed scars, leading to a more uniform skin surface.
Wrinkle Reduction:
The increased collagen and elastin result in rmer skin with fewer wrinkles and ne lines.
Better Product Absorption:
The micro-channels created by the needles allow for better absorption of topical treatments, enhancing the e cacy of serums and creams.
Minimal Downtime:
Unlike more invasive procedures, microneedling has a short recovery time. Most patients experience redness akin to a mild sunburn, which subsides within a few days.
Safety and Considerations
While microneedling is generally safe for most skin types, it is crucial to have the procedure performed by a trained professional to minimize risks. Potential side e ects include minor swelling, redness, and irritation. Proper aftercare, including avoiding sun exposure and using gentle skincare products, is essential for optimal results and quick recovery.
Microneedling facials represent a signi cant advancement in non-surgical skincare treatments. Their ability to rejuvenate the skin, reduce imperfections, and enhance overall skin health makes them a worthwhile consideration for those seeking a radiant and youthful appearance. As with any cosmetic procedure, it is important to book your free consultation at Indiana’s hair and lash boutique to determine if microneedling is suitable for your skin type and concerns. With proper application and care, microneedling can be a transformative addition to your skincare regimen.
Improve your quality of life: Discover how robotic surgery for prostate cancer works and its enefits
Robotic surgery for prostate cancer is generally less invasive, with faster recovery and a lower risk of complications.
In its early stages, prostate cancer may not cause any signs or symptoms. However, when more advanced, it can cause various symptoms such as urinary problems, decreased force in the urine stream, blood in the urine or semen, bone pain, unintentional weight loss, and erectile dysfunction. After detecting prostate cancer, there are various treatment options, and if surgery is required, one of the best choices is robotic surgery due to its numerous advantages.
Robotic surgery o ers several bene ts compared to traditional open surgery and standard laparoscopy. Thanks to robotic technology, more precise and controlled movements are achieved through smaller incisions, resulting in less postoperative pain, smaller scars, and a quicker and more comfortable recovery.
Reduced Invasiveness and Advanced Precision: The Da Vinci Robotic Surgery in Prostate Cancer Treatment
With less blood loss, robotic surgery for prostate cancer is generally less invasive, with faster recovery and a lower risk of complications due to the precision of robotic movements, which can reduce the risk of damage to surrounding tissues and nerves, crucial for erectile function and urinary continence.
The Da Vinci robot allows for handling highly complex urooncological cases with excellent results. One of the main bene ts of surgery with the Da Vinci robot is the detailed visualisation, as the highde nition 3D camera provides a better view of the surgical area, helping to identify and preserve important structures.
In the eld of urology, the Da Vinci robot has proven to be highly e ective, enabling minimally invasive surgeries with maximum precision and safety, thanks to its sophisticated and innovative technology. Some of the most commonly treated urological conditions by the Da Vinci robot are:
- Prostate cancer (prostatectomy).
- Kidney cancer (total/partial nephrectomy).
- Bladder cancer (radical cystectomy).
- Urinary incontinence and urogenital prolapse.
What is a Prostatectomy?
It is the most advanced surgery for the treatment of prostate cancer (robotic radical prostatectomy) and involves removing the prostate and seminal vesicles to eliminate all tumour tissue, facilitating the individualisation of the surgical needs of each patient depending on the type of cancer they have.
What Are the Postoperative Advantages of Prostatectomy with the Da Vinci Robot?
One advantage is the recovery of urinary continence, with continence rates at one year being 95% for the Da Vinci system and 80% for open surgery. Another advantage is the recovery of erectile function, with better erectile function recovery rates with robotic prostatectomy, with one-year potency rates of 97% for the Da Vinci system and 88% for open surgery.
After the intervention, no speci c care is required, and the recovery is faster than with traditional open
surgery. After being discharged from the hospital, the patient can resume their daily life, avoiding exertion during the rst four weeks.
“For its performance, only small skin incisions of 0.5 to 1 cm in length are necessary, through which we can perform, guided by the highde nition camera, the complete removal of the prostate with an optimal level of precision.”
- Dr Sven Petry, Head of the Urology Department at Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital, the rst to perform a robotic cystectomy in the Valencian
Community.
Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital has extensive experience in robotic surgery, as it was one of the pioneering hospitals nationwide to implement and train its surgeons in the use of this technology 15 years ago.
Advantages of Robotic Surgery in Urology
Thanks to the Da Vinci robotic surgery system, Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital provides the best treatment and outcomes for prostate cancer patients needing radical prostatectomy. Some of the advantages of robotic surgery in urology are:
- More precise tumour tissue removal, improving the e ectiveness of the treatment.
- Greater capacity to preserve neurovascular structures, favouring optimal recovery of sexual function.
- Signi cant improvements in the preservation and restoration of urinary continence after prostate cancer surgeries.
- Improved control of defecatory function.
- Notable reduction in blood loss and the need for transfusions during surgery.
- Lower risk of complications and infections in the surgical wound, ensuring safer recovery.
- Shorter hospital stays.

The Terry Screen Memorial Match
On Saturday the 22nd of June, thirty six anglers turned out at El Bosquet to take part and pay homage in the Terry Screen memorial match. Its just over a year since we lost the great man, who did so much for angling in this part of Spain. Terry was an inspiration and mentor to us all and he was spoken of so fondly throughout the match.
I was the defending champion and tried my best to retain the title but it was not to be.
Winner on the day was a new angler to the completion Loska Colmic. Drawn on the rst peg on the complex A1 he caught some nice carp for 23.28kg.
In second place on peg 5 was Alan Priest, Alan was one of the many
anglers who had bene tted from the late Terrys help with pole repairs and assistance in getting licences, so it was tting that Alan weighed 21.20kg to secure second place.
In third place was Bill Cannon.
Drawn on peg 13 he shed mainly the method feeder with pellet and caught some quality carp in his 20.5kg.
I was on the next peg to Bill and used similar tactics but this time with maggots. I had more sh than Bill but they were smaller and I only managed to weigh 17.82kg to take fourth spot.
In fth place was John Waples. John was on peg 1 and despite losing countless sh he never moaned once.
He shed the pole with maggots and weighed 17.80kg.
All the sections of the complex were in use and Steve Higgins won the
blue section on peg 21 with 14.84kg and the far end of 26 to 40 was won by the every consistent Willy Moons. His lowly 5kg was enough to win his section but he was only 21st in the match.
Massive thanks go out to the complex, NTT baits and Oscars Bar in Quesada who provided some quality prizes. Also thanks to everyone else who also brought prizes it was very much appreciated.
The match was shed in a tremendous spirit, it has become an annual event and I think that the late Mr Screen would have approved greatly. Thanks for taking part guys you all know how much this match means to me.
