Serious accidents on local roads reach highest level since 2011

Serious accidents on local roads in the province of Alicante have reached their highest point since at least 2011. At least those recorded on roads belonging to the Generalitat Valenciana according to the latest report on road safety on its

road, referring to 2023. The accident rate as a whole barely changes, but the number of accidents resulting in fatalities or injuries is growing considerably.

Speci cally, according to the report, throughout 2023 there were

1,070 accidents on the roads owned by the autonomous community that run through the province. This was eight more than in 2022 and there is a clear upward trend. Last year the number of accidents with victims soared to 455, above all the records recorded by the Generalitat in more than a decade.

In relation to the previous year alone, serious accidents have increased by 11.79% and the number of deaths has decreased: 10, compared to 14 in 2022. However, the number of injured people who needed hospitalisation has increased from 53 to 57, and the most striking thing is the large increase in minor injuries, from 473 to 564.

Last year was the busiest year on the autonomous roads that run through the province since at least 2011 and probably in history, with a cumulative total of 1,724

million vehicles. This gure helps explain the increase in accidents, although factors such as the speci c characteristics of each road or the fact that these roads are used mainly for short journeys, where it is more likely that drivers will become overcon dent, should also be taken into account. The results show the need to redouble e orts in road safety, especially in some speci c sections where there seems to be factors that increase the risk.

The Generalitat’s road safety report indicates all the points on the road network where accidents with fatalities and serious injuries

were recorded throughout last year. A rst glance at the map suggests that most of the accidents were concentrated in the southern regions of the province, but this concentration of accidents does not necessarily mean that the roads in Vega Baja are in worse condition. In the southern regions of Alicante there are a greater number of roads managed by the Generalitat, which also helps to explain this higher accident rate. But above all, there is more tra c than in areas in the north of the province such as El Comtat, where tra c on some of the roads does not even reach a thousand vehicles a day. On the other hand, the CV-91 (Orihuela -Guardamar), the CV-95 (Orihuela- Torrevieja) and the CV-905 (Benijófar-Torrevieja) see large volumes of tra c, and for this reason alone the probability of su ering an accident is already greater.

Spain still tops for expats

A new survey entitled Expat Insider has talked to more than 12,500 people living abroad in 174 different countries of the world. The survey asked them the rank everything from ease of making friends to career opportunities and the weather.

In the overall rankings, European countries didn’t perform at their best. Only one nation—Spain—made it into the top 10 in 4th place with 84% of expats saying they’re happy there (vs. 68% globally). The country is a top choice for

those looking to relocate or spend an extended period of time abroad, as the climate, healthcare, and cost of living keep expats satisfied amid minor challenges.

Spain claims the top spot in the Quality of Life Index for the third year running, landing first in subcategory Leisure Options for its high quality culture and nightlife as well as opportunities for recreational sports.

Expats also love the sunshine—88% of respondents

enjoy the climate and weather (vs. 58% globally). Spain also secures the third spot for healthcare. Expats praise both the quality and affordability of medical care, with the majority (81%) positively rating its availability (vs. 68% globally).

However, Reviews for Working Abroad in Spain are less glowing—the country ranks 27th, its worst result in an index. Expats are not particularly happy with their career opportunities or the local job market.

Big FM breakfast presenter unexpected death

The local community was shocked and saddened to hear of the death of local DJ and Big FM breakfast presenter Carol ‘Caz’ Matthews.

Caz had travelled back to Manchester to watch her brother perform at the city’s Albert Hall in a reunion gig of his band Puressence.

Caz passed away in hospital on 2nd July after being taken ill in Manchester.

No Summer School for Orihuela

The school year may have ended, but Orihuela is still without summers schools, and this is set to continue until at least August and maybe even beyond. This service is considered vital for families who have working parents, and the tender was issued by the PP and Vox government team in April. The contract was worth more than 600,000 euros and ran until 2026, offering around 1,000 places for a duration of 8 weeks across 10 educational centres in the municipality. However, the contract has never been awarded.

The tender for this year has a budget of 203,557e and should have been in place for an end of June start, then all four weeks of July and three in August. The summer schools offer support to parents from Monday to Friday 8.45am to 1.45pm.

However, this comes as nothing new to parents as the service wasn’t provided last year either putting extra pressure on the Councillor for Education Vincente Pina (PP). The Councillor recently held a press conference to address the situation and blamed a number of administrative ‘problems

that have arisen throughout the procedure’. He explained that this was a ‘highly complex contract that exceeds 600,000 euros, with a thousand places running for three years and extendable for another two’.

Councillor Pina said the file was initiated on 12th December 2023 and put out to tender 4 months later. On 15th May the Contracting Committee requested the documentation from the highest-rated company, but after rushing all the deadlines, it was unable to meet all the requirements. The award was then passed to the second choice, however that company rejected the contract.

The third best bidding company is now being scrutinised by the Contracting Committee. Their paperwork has been requested for re-submission and once presented the award can be made.

None of this of course is of any comfort to working parents who rely on the summer schools. In fact, such is the despair of some families that several schools have organised their own summer school type clubs, classes and activities to support parents.

Torrevieja woman stands trial for attempted murder

The trail has started of a Torrevieja woman for allegedly trying to kill her partner during an argument. The woman is accused of stabbing him in the abdomen with a large kitchen knife. The events occurred on 24th January,

2023 at the family home in Torrevieja and it was the accused herself who, after the attack, called the 112 emergency telephone number. During the attack, the victim su ered serious injuries to the abdominal wall, for which he had to

undergo emergency surgery.

The prosecution is initially asking for an eight-year prison sentence for the alleged attacker for attempted murder. The trial will take place in Section 11 of Elche.

AP-7 to be widened between Crevillente and Orihuela

The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has approved the works to increase the capacity of the Mediterranean Highway between Crevillente and the Orihuela/Benferri link in the province of Alicante for 89.6 million euros. Specifically, a third lane will be built on both carriageways of the highway along 17 kilometres, between kilometres 528 and 545, to improve traffic conditions and road safety. The announcement will be published in the Official State Gazette (BOE).

This project will widen the motorway from two to three lanes from the intersection with the AP-7 motorway (Alicante – Cartagena) in Crevillent to

the access to Orihuela via the CV-870 road, continuing the previous section between Elche and Crevillente, which has had three lanes per carriageway since 2008. In addition, the Crevillent-Catral, Albatera-San Isidro, Granja de Rocamora-Cox, N-340 Redován and OrihuelaBenferri junctions will all be remodelled. These interchanges will be reorganised to transform them into diamond-type interchanges with roundabouts.

The ‘formalisation’ of the contract is one of the last administrative steps before the work starts. Once approved the verification report of the layout is drawn up and the works begin. The typical section of the expansion is 3.50 m of lane, 2.50

m of right shoulder and 1.60 m of outer berm.

The median strip along the entire length of the project area will be provided with a vehicle containment system to prevent heavy vehicles from entering the carriageway in the opposite direction. To do this, the space between the inner hard shoulders will be filled in first, by placing in infrastructure ensure drainage, and each pair of existing viaducts on both sides of the motorway axis will be connected.

The project provides for the adoption of noise protection measures for urban areas close to the motorway to minimise disruption.

Unemployment falls across the Vega Baja

Unemployment in the Vega Baja region continues to fall for the fourth consecutive month. According to data published by the Public Employment Service, during the month of June the region registered 563 fewer unemployed people compared to the previous month, which places the total number of job seekers at 22,866. If the data is analysed by municipality, the trend in the number of unemployed is downwards in most local municipalities. It is worth highlighting that the 73 fewer

unemployed in Orihuela with an unemployment rate of 4,378 unemployed, followed by the municipality of Torrevieja with 294 fewer unemployed and a rate of 6,828 unemployed are the highest. At the opposite end of the scale, in municipalities that have suffered an increase in unemployment we find Algorfa with an increase of 6 unemployed people.

According to the UGT: “These figures reflect the start of the summer campaign, but we still need to invest in technology and

research and achieve the necessary push for the creation of stable and quality employment.”

UGT believes that “some aspects that can be extracted from the data for this month of June are positive, such as the fact that permanent jobs continue to increase significantly, which allows for greater job security. However, longterm unemployment remains high; in order to address this structural problem of the labour market, it is essential to reform active employment policies and increase economic resources.”

Couple arrested for defrauding elderly and disabled relatives in Almoradi

The Civil Guard, as part of the Major Security Plan, has arrested a married couple in Almoradí for committing fraud. They had made fraudulent bank charges to the accounts of the grandmother, who was in a nursing home, and the uncle, a disabled person, both of whom are relatives of one of the accused.

The investigation began in December 2023 when a disabled individual, accompanied by Social Services staff from the Almoradí City Council, filed a complaint with the local Civil Guard for fraudulent charges on his bank account. Given the victim’s vulnerability, the Almoradí Investigation Department took charge

of the case to clarify the reported events.

In the initial phase, the agents analyzed recent charges on the victim’s account and discovered fraudulent activities dating back to 2021. They found that the account had other bank cards linked to it, which were unknown to the complainant.

Additionally, they interviewed the director of the nursing home where the complainant’s mother was staying and discovered that she had also suffered significant fraudulent charges, leaving her unable to make payments to the nursing home due to her account being overdrawn.

Suspicions then focused on the victims’ close relatives. The investigation revealed that the victims’ niece, granddaughter, and her partner were behind the fraudulent activities. Despite not visiting their grandmother in the nursing home or their uncle who lived in precarious conditions, the couple had been exploiting their money for years. The couple, who had no paid employment, spent 45,658 euros on travel, clothing, hotels, and home renovations.

At the end of May, the couple, aged 43 and 46, were arrested for fraud and brought before the Orihuela Court on Duty, which ordered their release with precautionary measures. The Civil Guard has requested the judicial authority to seize the objects obtained through the fraudulent activities.

The Civil Guard expressed gratitude to the Social Services of the Almoradí Town Hall and the nursing home where one of the victims was staying for their collaboration. These actions are part of the Major Security Plan, which aims to prevent crimes against and improve the security of the elderly.

Three migrants missing following Benidorm rescue

Eight migrants have been rescued off the coast of Alicante after their boat capsized, while three more are still missing. The incident occurred 26 nautical miles east of Benidorm.

A merchant ship spotted the group in the water and immediately alerted authorities.

The ship, along with a Maritime Rescue vessel

and a helicopter, initiated a rescue operation. The merchant ship rescued five individuals and continued its journey to Fos, France. The helicopter rescued three more migrants, who were then taken to Valencia Airport.

The rescued migrants reported that three of their fellow travellers were still unaccounted

for. A search operation is ongoing, focusing on an area approximately 10 miles southeast of Cabo de la Nao in northern Alicante province.

The migrants, all adult males, are from North Africa and set sail from Algeria on 27th June. Authorities continued to search for the missing individuals, hoping to locate them soon.

Flight from Spain makes emergency landing after severe turbulence injuries

An Air Europa Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner made an emergency landing in Natal, northeastern Brazil, after encountering severe turbulence during its ight from Madrid to Montevideo, Uruguay. The turbulence caused injuries to several passengers, including one who was thrown into the overhead luggage compartment, as captured in videos posted on social media.

Air Europa announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the injured passengers were receiving medical attention. The Uruguayan foreign ministry con rmed that those requiring further care were taken to the Monsenhor Walfredo Gurgel hospital in Natal, with several already discharged.

Reports indicate that between 25 and 30 passengers sustained injuries, though the exact number is still uncertain.

The airline has arranged for another plane to depart from Madrid to transport the remaining passengers from Natal to their original destination in Uruguay.

This incident is part of a troubling pattern for Boeing.

In May, severe turbulence on a Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 resulted in the death of a 73-year-old British man and serious injuries to other passengers and crew, necessitating an emergency landing in Bangkok.

Additionally, Boeing has faced scrutiny after a fuselage panel detached from an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX in January, alongside two fatal crashes involving the same model in 2018 and

2019.

This latest emergency landing underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the aviation industry concerning aircraft safety and turbulence management. The prompt response by Air Europa and local Brazilian authorities ensured that injured passengers received immediate medical care, while arrangements for the continuation of the journey were swiftly made.

UNESCO warns of Tsunami threat in Mediterranean

The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC) has issued a stark warning with 100 percent certainty that a tsunami measuring over one meter will strike the Mediterranean within the next 30 years. The Spanish newspaper La Razon reports that the primary danger zone is the Averroes fault beneath the Alboran Sea, located roughly halfway between the Málaga coast and North Africa. An earthquake in this region could generate six-meter waves, reaching Spain in as little as 21 minutes. Even in the best-case scenario, coastal residents would have only 35 minutes to evacuate inland.

Since the beginning of the 20th century, the Mediterranean and surrounding seas have experienced approximately 100 tsunamis, accounting for

about 10 percent of the world’s total for this period.

Although tsunamis in the northeast Atlantic are less frequent, a notable event occurred in 1755 when an 8.5 magnitude earthquake triggered a tsunami that devastated Lisbon in Portugal, Cádiz in Spain, parts of Morocco, and even reached southwest Cornwall in the UK and Ireland.

While a one- or sixmeter tsunami might not seem catastrophic in comparison to some historical events, the true danger lies in the water flows and flooding that can cause extensive damage to beaches, harbours, and streets. In areas with lowlying waterfronts, even a relatively small tsunami could prove treacherous.

Tsunamis can arrive with alarming speed. For instance, an earthquake off the Málaga coast would trigger a tsunami hitting the shore within

21 to 35 minutes. In the western Mediterranean, an earthquake near Algeria would send waves across the sea in just over an hour.

Spain has taken proactive measures to mitigate this threat. The State Plan for Civil Protection against the Risk of Tsunamis includes an early-warning system to detect underwater earthquakes and a coordinated response plan to ensure public safety. If a tsunami were to originate near Cape St. Vincent off the Portuguese coast, it would reach the Spanish Cádiz coast in 40 minutes, leaving authorities and residents with less than an hour to prepare.

While the IOC estimates only a 10 percent chance of a tsunami hitting Cádiz in the next 50 years, the town of Chipiona is aiming to be Spain’s first ‘tsunami ready’ municipality, having already conducted mock evacuation drills to ensure preparedness.

Britain woke up to the news of a new Prime Minister this morning as the Labour Party won a landslide victory. At the time of writing, the Labour party holds 410 seats, with six constituencies left to declare.

The result is comparable to the 1997 General Election when the Labour Party won a landslide victory under Tony Blair, winning a majority of 179. During this time, the pound experienced initial volatility but eventually stabilised as markets became con dent in Blair’s centrist approach and his commitment to economic stability.

While the election outcome is comparable, the impact on FX markets isn’t, with little volatility seen overnight and this morning as results trickle in.

A clear majority indicates the new Government should be able to implement many of its preelection policies with relative ease, which could point towards a period of political stability and economic growth.

Earlier this week, we had the nal services PMI data released for the UK on Wednesday, which was mostly overlooked given the main event of Thursday’s general election. These data points provide a snapshot of UK economic health, which the Bank of England will need to take note of when looking at interest rate policy ahead of their next meeting in August.

The data showed that the upturn in the UK services economy had slowed further in June, falling to a seven-month low at 51.2. This is still over the key 50 level that indicates expansion, however.

Speculation of a move to cut interest rates during August’s meeting continues to escalate for the UK, and with the cut to the energy sector price

GBP / EUR UPDATE

cap, which came in to force earlier this week is set to save the average household around £120 per year, potentially continuing to nudge in ation a little lower in the short term.

EUR Last weekend the rst round of voting in France delivered the expected victory for Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally party, taking 33.2% of the votes and pushing President Emmanuel Macron’s Ensemble Alliance down into third place also behind the Nouveau Front Populaire party.

If this trend continues through to the nal round of voting on Sunday 7th July France could nd themselves led by a far-right political party for the rst time since World War II which is causing a ripple of concern across the bloc. The situation in France is perhaps exacerbated by the recent successes in Germany of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party ahead of next month’s European Parliament election.

As these far-right forces continue to gain strength, the single currency struggles to hold its ground, and developments will lter through to the markets. Typically, the euro is sold o over concerns that a move could derail economic growth across the EU and increase tensions throughout the European Parliament, especially with the key economies of Germany and France.

Conversely, as Marine Le Pen failed to win the anticipated majority in this rst-round vote, the euro has gained some strength this morning versus the pound and the US dollar. This has been further impacted in particular against the USD with talk of tactical moves by Le Pen’s opposition to reduce candidates in the regional seats and therefore amalgamate opposition support in order to topple the balance away from the National Rally party.

Two people arrested for drug trafficking and alleged money laundering

In Jacarilla, National Police officers have apprehended a man and a woman for operating an indoor marijuana plantation with 464 plants at various stages of growth. The plantation’s electricity was illicitly obtained through an illegal connection to the electrical grid. During the search, authorities also discovered a semi-automatic pistol with an indiscernible serial number and coresponding amunition.

The investigation began when police received information about a potential money

laundering operation suspected to be funded through drug trafficking. Following this lead, investigators focused on a property in Jacarilla. They discreetly monitored the site and gathered sufficient evidence to confirm the existence of the marijuana plantation. Key indicators included the house’s suitability for cannabis cultivation, the residents’ reclusive behavior, and their counter-surveillance efforts when traveling.

Upon raiding the house, police uncovered the large-scale operation

and identified the unprofessional electrical setup used to power the plantation without a legitimate electricity contract. The discovery of the firearm further implicated the suspects.

The detainees, a 35-yearold man and a 29-yearold woman, both of Spanish nationality, have been charged with drug trafficking, electricity theft, and illegal possession of weapons. The case has been forwarded to the Courts of Instruction of Orihuela for further proceedings.

Man investigated for bicycle and scooter thefts

The Civil Guard and the Local Police of Cox have investigated a 34-yearold man for six crimes of theft of scooters and bicycles from residents of the municipality. The result of the investigation has been brought to the attention of the Orihuela Court on Duty because the alleged perpetrator had been imprisoned for other crimes at the time of the operation.

At the beginning of May this year, the Civil Guard, through a complaint from a resident of Cox, learned of the theft of a VMP (personal mobility vehicle). The perpetrator, in a moment of carelessness and taking advantage of the fact that the owner of the scooter had moved away, stole it without being seen. Due to this, the agents of the investigation area of the main post of Callosa de Segura began the investigations to clarify the facts.

Following an analysis of thefts in the town, investigators concluded that scooter and bicycle thefts had increased in the municipality. In order to find those responsible, a joint investigation was launched with the Cox Local Police.

In the first phase, after gathering the necessary data, a thorough reconstruction of the events was carried out, narrowing down the possible perpetrator. From all this, the identity of the suspect was extracted, being a 34-year-old man, with a multitude of previous records for crimes against property.

Once the involvement of the perpetrator in six vehicle theft offences, all

valued at around 1,200 euros, was confirmed, efforts were made to locate the individual. After arduous efforts, the suspect was located in a penitentiary centre in the province of Alicante, where he was serving a sentence for other offences unrelated to the investigation. The Orihuela Court of Instruction on Duty has been informed of all the facts and actions taken.

Cambiemos Orihuela demands that the new health centre on the coast be financed by the Consell

Cambiemos Orihuela has raised concerns regarding the funding of a new health centre in Orihuela Costa. The local council, headed by Mayor Pepe Vegara, has reportedly committed to nancing the project, which traditionally falls under the jurisdiction of the Conselleria (regional government). This information came to light following an interview with Mayor Vegara, who indicated that an agreement had been reached with the Conselleria: the municipality would build the health centre, and the Conselleria would sta it with doctors.

Leticia Pertegal, spokesperson for Cambiemos Orihuela, highlighted worries that this scenario might replicate past issues, such as those experienced with the construction of the Court in Plaza de Santa Lucía. During José Manuel Medina’s tenure, the City Council funded this project

with the expectation of reimbursement from the Generalitat, which only occurred much later under the Botànic Government.

Pertegal criticized this arrangement as another example of the Orihuela government yielding to the Generalitat, thereby

relieving the Ministry of its responsibilities. She emphasized the need for transparency from the municipal government regarding the funding source, the total cost, and the feasibility of nancing a project that should be the Ministry’s responsibility.

Police in Benidorm ask the public to respect blue lines

Summer in Benidorm, the tourism capital of the Costa Blanca, is synonymous with beach activities. Every day, thousands of people ock to Marina Baixa to bask in the sun, enjoy the beaches, and savor excellent food. To ensure a perfect experience, the Benidorm Local Police have issued a warning to respect the striking blue lines placed on the beaches.

The police message is straightforward, though the sheer number of beachgoers might make it easy to overlook these blue lines and their purpose. Upon closer inspection, you will notice that these colored strips are attached to poles, creating a separation between the masses of towels, umbrellas, and toys that often

evacuation corridors” designed to allow emergency services to reach the water quickly in case of an incident.

The police are asking for the public’s cooperation in keeping these corridors clear, as they are crucial for ensuring safety and facilitating quick emergency responses. A post on the police force’s o cial Facebook account emphasizes that respecting these corridors allows everyone to “enjoy the beach safely.” While the police stress the importance of this request, they also note that it is a call for cooperation rather than a mandate, so there will be no nes for obstructing these corridors.

Work completed on the pedestrian path in the La Glea micro-reserve

Cambiemos Orihuela has denounced the fact that the construction of the new health centre in Orihuela Costa, which is the responsibility of the Conselleria, “is now going to be, apparently, nanced by the Orihuela council”.

The political party made these statements after an interview carried out with a provincial media outlet with the Orihuela Mayor, Pepe Vegara, in which he explained that “we are going to have a second health centre in Orihuela Costa at the end of 2025. …..We have already spoken with the Conselleria. We ask them: if I build the health centre, will you ll it with doctors?”

The spokesperson for the group, Leticia Pertegal, has expressed the party’s concern at the possibility that “the same thing might happen as with the Court in Plaza de Santa Lucía, the construction of which was carried out by the City Council during the mandate of José Manuel Medina, and it was not until the

arrival of the Botànic Government when the matter of the exchange of the Old Courts was resolved, together with the corresponding nancial compensation, since the PP Government in the Generalitat promised that it would pay for the City Council to build that building and never did so.”

Pertegal has insisted that “this is nothing more than a new subordination of the Orihuela

government to the government of the Generalitat, exempting the Ministry of responsibilities”. In this sense, he adds that “if this is true, the municipal government must explain how and where it intends to carry it out, where it plans to get the money to carry it out and how much it will cost the city of Orihuela for a project that should be undertaken by the Ministry of responsibilities”.

With the thought of children going without breakfast during the long school holidays, fund raiser’s David and Lorraine Whitney spread the word for the charity “Donacions Torreveija Alrededores” in the hopes of raising funds.

The response was terri c with a 100 euro donation from good friends and then “The Melody Makers” performing at the Marina Bar calle de las Rosas and raising a further 204 euro then during the last few weeks the Marina Bar again have been busy raising 496.64 euros with the help of Mary Flynn and Rita Monaghan giving a grand total of 800 euros and 64cents so far.

A big thank you to everybody who has kindly donated to this worthwhile charity who help the poor and homeless in the area. Another gesture of help came

from Margaret Stent who kindly bought ‘Max’ the sloth from the Marina Bar auction so that the children visiting the charity have something friendly to cuddle.

The money donations still continue and are gratefully

received . Thank you so much.

“Can I use an old phone or tablet as a security camera”?

Yes, you can.

Preparing Your Old Phone

Start with preparing two mobile devices: an old phone that’s no longer in use and your current phone. The old one is used as the Camera device monitoring the

surroundings, and your current phone that is carried by you acts as the Viewer device.

Installing the Camera App

Download a security camera app from your device’s app store. There are many options available for both Android and iOS. The best app to turn an old phone into a security camera comes with essential features like remote recording and streaming, local footage storage, two-way audio, and motion detection.

Once you select a security camera app, download it to both on the old and current phones and follow the app’s setup instructions.

Pairing Your Devices

Now the app is installed on the two phones, open the app and you will be asked to log in to your account. Keep in mind to use the same account for both phones, otherwise, they will not be able to connect. Follow the steps to pair the devices. (Different apps might offer different pairing methods.) Set the old phone as the Camera, and the other as the Viewer.

Choosing the Perfect Placement

Install the Camera in the area that you want to monitor, like entrances, stairways, and living room. Place the Camera up

high. In this way, it captures the area clearly without being easily knocked down by your kids or pets. The Camera should be angled appropriately to give you the most visibility for the area. The Camera device must be within range of your Wi-Fi and be constantly charged. If the power cable is not long enough, you can also power your device with a power bank.

I have tried this using an App named “AlfredCamera”. It’s crossplatform, so it doesn’t matter if your old phone was an Android phone or iPhone. And the same goes for your new phone. Both phones need to have an internet connection. AlfredCamara offers all the features described below and the possibility to review past incidents if you upgrade for around 30 euros annually. I have installed this App on 2 old phones to act as cameras.

ONCE is dedicating its coupon for Wednesday, July 10, to the 50th anniversary of the Association of Moors and Christians Festivals of Santas Justa and Ru na de Orihuela. Five million coupons will promote this anniversary.

The Association of Moors and Christians Festivals of Santas Justa and Ru na of Orihuela was founded in 1974, when a group of Orihuela residents decided to support the traditional Festival of the Reconquest of Orihuela from Saracen rule (1242 or 1243). These festivals were declared of National Tourist Interest in 2017. Both the crowns of Castile and Aragon were involved in the reconquest of the city. In 1266, James I the Conqueror put down the Mudejar uprising by taking the city for his sonin-law, King Alfonso X of Castile.

The Legend of Armengola tells how the warden of the castle of Orihuela,

Bezaddon, planned to kill the Christians living in the Mozarab area of Arrabal Roig, except for his son’s nurse, called Armengola, her husband, Pedro Armengol, and their two daughters.

Armengola alerted the Christians and, going up to the citadel accompanied by her husband and two robust young men, Ruidoms and Arúm, dressed in her daughters’ clothes, they killed the Saracen guard with their swords.

The Saints Justa and Ru na appeared in the form of stars on the keep to illuminate the battle. The troops of James I of Aragon, who

were nearby, took the city the following day, July 17, the feast day of the saints. Since 1991, to honour Armengola, a woman has been chosen to personify her during the Moors and Christians Festivals.

On July 17th, several events are held, such as the Procession of the Canonical Patron Saints Justa and Ru na, the Solemn Mass and the parade of the Glorious Ensign of Oriol through the streets of Orihuela. Since 1974, this celebration has increased its number of events, which means that a greater number of people attend.

Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary are reportedly set to remain as the main hosts of “This Morning” over the summer, following a successful e ort by ITV to keep them on board amid competition from rival channels. This decision comes as ITV seeks to boost the show’s ratings, which have declined since Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard took over as main hosts in March. Dermot, aged 51, and Alison, aged 49, had commitments with other channels, prompting ITV to intensify their e orts to secure the popular duo for their summer programming. The network hopes that their presence will attract more viewers and rejuvenate the show’s audience.

Noel Gallagher, the former Oasis star, is set to undergo knee replacement surgery later this year due to arthritis. At 57 years old, Gallagher has been dealing with this joint problem and has decided to have the operation to address the issue. Interestingly, his younger brother and former bandmate, Liam Gallagher, aged 51, also su ers from arthritis.

The brothers, known for creating iconic hits like “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back In Anger,” share this common health condition despite their estranged relationship.

Ben A eck was seen still wearing his wedding ring as he headed to lunch in Los Angeles on Friday, despite rumors of a split from Jennifer Lopez.

The 51-year-old actor, who has reportedly been separated from the 54-year-old singer for several months, appeared strained during his outing. A eck was dressed casually in a white tee, plaid shirt, jeans, and sneakers. This sighting came a day after Jennifer Lopez was spotted looking somber in the Hamptons, adding to the speculation about the state of their relationship. Despite spending the 4th of July apart, A eck’s continued wearing of his wedding band suggests there might be more to the story.

Charlotte Crosby has provided a health update to her Instagram followers from her hospital bed after being rushed to A&E earlier this week. The 33-year-old TV personality revealed that she was su ering from a severe tonsil infection, which had left her unable to eat, drink, or get out of bed. Crosby shared a graphic photo of her infected tonsils on her Instagram Stories, explaining the severity of her condition. She captioned the photo:

“This was actually on Tuesday. I’ve got a video now of the whole tonsil covered in white puss with huge black delves all over! I don’t think I can share it as it’s pretty DISGUSTING.”

This update highlights the intensity of her illness and the discomfort she has been experiencing. .

Dame Arlene Phillips has come to terms with her controversial removal from the judging panel of “Strictly Come Dancing,” but she remains adamant that she will never forgive the BBC bosses for their decision. The 81-year-old choreographer and talent scout was part of the original judging panel when the popular dancing show premiered in 2004, alongside Craig Revel Horwood, Bruno Tonioli, and Len Goodman. In 2009, the BBC announced that Phillips would be replaced by Alesha Dixon, a move that sparked considerable debate and criticism. Despite accepting her axing, Phillips has made it clear that the way the situation was handled is something she won’t forget or forgive.

Health & Beauty

When I took my boyfriend home to meet my family, he asked me why my brothers and sisters hated me. As I’ve got older, I realise that my family were not taught to love one another. When spite and wrong-doings raised their head; nothing was ever really addressed by my parents, but allowed to slide without confrontation. This led to years of disharmony, resentment and ultimate estrangement. My now husband, recognised the early abuse because he also had a difficult childhood. His father was a tyrant who ruled the roost; he was handy with his fists if you did not do his bidding, and life was very much his way; or no way. My husband’s way of dealing with the situation was to leave home at an early age. At family gatherings, a practice of down-crying was implemented, with each child in turn being manipulated and encouraged to pit against the other, in a ‘divide and conquer’ style; one child would be disparaged and degraded; whilst glowing comparisons would be made of the other. Clear favouritism would be given to one child in turn, making others the scapegoat for any disharmony in the family.

This is a sad situation. Backing off from family life can often be the only way to take yourself out of the firing line. You ask me why some people have children; and I often wonder that too. There is some deep seated unhappiness here. Not everyone is cut out to be a parent.

Hydration Starts from WithinThe first step to maintaining hydrated skin is staying hydrated internally. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day helps keep your skin cells plump and functioning optimally. Aim for at least eight glasses of water a day, and consider increasing this amount if you spend a lot of time outdoors or engage in physical activities

Choose the Right Skincare ProductsOpt for skincare products that are specifically designed to provide hydration. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and aloe vera, which are known for their hydrating properties. Moisturizers with these ingredients can help lock in moisture and create a barrier to protect your skin from drying out.

Use a Hydrating SunscreenSunscreen is nonnegotiable when it comes to sun exposure, but choosing a hydrating sunscreen can provide an added layer of protection. Many sunscreens now come with moisturizing ingredients that help keep your skin hydrated while shielding it from harmful

Garlic is a staple ingredient in many diets, used both for culinary and medicinal purposes. Fresh garlic and garlic powder are commonly employed to season dishes like pasta and meat, and garlic is also valued for its potential health bene ts, particularly for the immune system and heart. Due to its concentration of protective plant compounds, garlic may o er several health bene ts, such as reducing in ammation markers and lowering the risk of chronic diseases. Here’s everything you need to know about garlic, including its health bene ts, nutrition, and tips on how to incorporate more garlic into your diet.

Garlic is high in compounds known to decrease in ammation. While some types of in ammation are crucial for maintaining health and preventing illness, chronic in ammation is linked to several diseases, including certain cancers and heart disease. A nutritious diet rich in anti-in ammatory foods, like garlic, can help reduce the risk of these

conditions and improve symptoms related to in ammatory disorders.

Garlic is loaded with anti-in ammatory substances called organo-sulfur compounds. The presence of these compounds varies depending on the preparation method. Fresh garlic bulbs are high in S-allyl-L-cysteine sulfoxide (alliin) and γ-glutamyl cysteine derivatives. In contrast, garlic powder contains diallyl disul de (DADS) and alliin. Ground garlic is rich in dithiines, (E–Z)-ajoene compounds, and sul de family compounds.

UV rays. Apply sunscreen generously and reapply every two hours, or more often if swimming or sweating. Incorporate antioxidants such as vitamin C and E, can help combat the damaging effects of free radicals produced by sun exposure. These can be found in serums and creams, and they work to repair and protect your skin at a cellular level, promoting overall skin health and hydration. Avoid Hot ShowersAfter spending time in the sun, it can be tempting to take a hot shower. However, hot water can strip your skin of its natural oils, leading to further dryness. Opt for lukewarm showers instead and use gentle, hydrating cleansers to maintain your skin’s moisture balance.

Wear Protective ClothingIn addition to sunscreen, wearing protective clothing

can significantly reduce your skin’s exposure to the sun. Light, long-sleeved shirts, wide-brimmed hats, and sunglasses can protect your skin and eyes from UV damage. Look for clothing with a UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) rating for added protection. Hydrate OvernightYour skin repairs itself while you sleep, making nighttime the perfect opportunity to boost hydration. Use a rich, nourishing night cream or a hydrating mask before bed. These products are designed to provide intense hydration and support your skin’s natural regeneration process.Monitor Your SkinPay attention to how your skin reacts to the sun

and different products. If you notice signs of dehydration, such as flakiness, tightness, or increased sensitivity, take immediate steps to rehydrate and protect your skin.

Book in for a consultation at Indiana’s hair and lash boutique for a hydra facial and be totally glowing for summer ConclusionKeeping your skin hydrated in the sun involves a combination of internal and external care. By following these tips and maintaining a consistent skincare routine, you can enjoy the summer sun while keeping your skin healthy, hydrated, and radiant. Stay sun-safe and hydrated this summer!

In Spain, the cheapest fuel station chains to fill up vehicles are highlighted in a study by the national Organisation of Consumers and Users (OCU). The study, focusing on family solvency, reveals that up to 54% of Spaniards face serious difficulties with car expenses, including petrol and diesel. According to OCU data, the savings are significant, with up to 13% in fuel and up to 25% in electricity for charging electric vehicles.

provinces, with Lérida, Cordoba, Murcia, and Almería leading the ranking for the percentage of cheap service stations, while the Balearic Islands, Asturias, and Guipúzcoa are the most expensive, with petrol stations averaging 5% higher prices.

For electric vehicles, the OCU emphasizes the greater price differences between charging options at service stations. Charging at home during off-peak hours remains the most cost-effective option, with a price of around 5 euros for 50 kWh, compared to over 20 euros at a service station. This highlights the substantial savings achievable through domestic charging.

The OCU study, which analyzed prices from more than 10,000 service stations, identified BonÀrea as the most affordable chain for diesel and 95 petrol, particularly in supermarkets and service stations across Catalonia and nearby areas. Following BonÀrea, the low-cost automated chains Gas Express, Plenoil, and GM Oil (linked to GM cash) also offer competitive prices. Additionally, Petroprix and E. Leclerc are noted for their low prices, especially for 95 petrol, providing savings of around 0.18 euros per liter compared to the most expensive chains, which translates to approximately 9 euros for a 50-liter refueling.

The study also lists the most expensive service station chains, including Cepsa, BP, Repsol, Petronor, and Campsa, for both diesel and petrol. Significant price differences are observed across
