Stevie’s final act of kindness: Thousands donated to local charities
Hundreds of people gathered at the Emerald Isle on Sunday (29th September) to honour the memory of Stevie Spit. The event was planed before the much- loved local entertainer and fundraiser passed away and it was decided that, not only would the show go on, but that the event would also see the monies raised in Stevie´s
name officially donated to several local charities and good causes he worked with.
The event was a day and night-long entertainment extravaganza with performances by Abba Elite, Neon Hits, Simon Jakson, Soulfully Yours, Cindy Fitzpatric, Texas Ted, Leroy Morales, Jay Markwick and his Flamenco dancers, The
Jersey Boys, Crazy Ladies and Nikki G’s Dirty Grease. All of the local entertainers knew Stevie personally, gave their time for free and really pulled out all the stops in his memory. For example, this was the first and the last time, renowned Flamenco dancer Jay Markwick has performed for five years and will be one of the last times the Jersey Boys take to the stage at the Emerald Isle. The crowd were amazing, singing, dancing and ensuring the atmosphere was one of fun and friendship. Elieen (Nanny McPhee) and her friends worked hard to boost the coffers with raffle tickets and prizes galore, determined to ensure that as much as possible was raised on the day. These were added to the remaining Go Fund Me donations, the funds raised by the De Bara Irish Bar fun day and the Villamartin Golf tournament and dinner. (Details of the De Bara events can be found on the bars Facebook page).
Funds were also raised at an event held by Stevie´s friends in Benidorm
The day was also enjoyed by staff and children from Elche Children´s Home and San Jose Obrero Orphanage, just two of the ten charities that benefitted from Stevie’s final act of kindness.
Before the donations were made it was announced that the outdoor stage at The Emerald Isle has been named ‘The Stevie Spit Stage’ and Eileen, supported by Nikki G, cut the ribbon.
The money was donated as follows:

Tax hike for rubbish collection causes outrage in Orihuela Costa
Residents of Orihuela Costa have been outraged by the rise in the rubbish collection fee from 1st January by 340%, going from paying an average of 70 euros a year to 238.76 euros (in the outlying areas they will pay 175.63 euros and in the city 202.53).
This has left residents declaring “those who have the least service are those who pay the most” and the Cabo Roig and Lomas Residents’ Association is asking “how is it possible that having such a deplorable waste collection service the local government wants to increase it by 340%.”
The price increase is in response to a European law that requires town councils to charge the real amount of the service cost. In the case of the municipality of Orihuela, 6.5 million are collected and the expenditure is 15 million, and that is another point that is not understood, “how is it possible that the costs are 40% higher than the revenue?” asks the neighbourhood association. It is also keen
to point out that there is another mandatory law, one brought in by the regional regime, which establishes that rubbish collection is the responsibility of the town councils, and “the town council in Orihuela has been neglecting its functions for many years.”
The association has repeatedly published and shared images of rubbish accumulating on the streets of the coast, with uncontrolled landfills and containers that cannot cope due to a lack of human and material resources, the result of an outdated service that was municipalised in 2012 and which operates with the legacy of the private contractor of that time.
In short, residents are fed up with decades of neglect in terms of services and infrastructure and now feel penalised by this increase which is completely unjustified.
The association has requested the figures on
which the calculations have been made in order to establish the rate and population basis.
“How many users are there? How long throughout the year do they use these services? Do those who come for two months a year pay the same rate as those who reside all year round, something that happens in all residential tourist municipalities, but which should be proportional,” these are key questions.
José Aix, spokesman for Ciudadanos, describes the measure as “absolute barbarity”, especially coming from a government team, PP and Vox , who when they were in the electoral campaign said they were going to lower taxes. He also points out that in addition to the increase in garbage tax, there is the increase that the local government has made due to the occupation of public roads and the land registry, which they are preparing.
Summer of domestic violence
This summer, Spain has experienced a disturbing surge in gender-based violence, with 22 women and children killed by men between June and September. The alarming gures re ect a broader trend of rising female murders, bringing the total to 35 deaths so far in 2023.
Of the 22 victims this summer, 19 were women who were killed by their current or former partners. In addition, three minors tragically lost their lives in vicarious violence, where children are harmed to psychologically torment their mothers. This chilling form of violence claimed the lives of Adam, 9, and Hiba, 3, who were killed alongside their mother Ammal, as well as 17-yearold Norma, whose mother was seriously injured in the attack.
The rst of these violent acts occurred on 28th June, when Petri, a 76-year-old woman, was murdered by her husband in Fuengirola, Malaga. Days later, Yanely, another victim, lost her life
to her partner in Bilbao. The youngest victim was just 20 years old, and the oldest was 76. As a result of this violent summer, 11 children have been left orphaned.
Regions such as Andalusia, Valencia, and Catalonia recorded the highest number of femicides, with four deaths each. Meanwhile, CastillaLa Mancha was struck by three child murders, further adding to the nation’s collective grief.
Experts warn that summer is particularly dangerous for victims of domestic violence, as many are forced to spend more time with their abusers.
Data from Spain’s state prosecutor’s o ce reveals that July and August are the deadliest months for gender-based violence, with 136 and 120 deaths, respectively, since 2003. June and January also show elevated numbers, with 117 and 112 deaths over the past two decades. Since 2003, a staggering 1,279 women have been
murdered by their partners or ex-partners, with 2013 being the deadliest year on record.
Support services for victims of gender-based violence are available 24 hours a day through the national helpline 016, which o ers assistance in 53 languages. Victims can also email 016-online@ igualdad.gob.es or contact the helpline via WhatsApp at 600000016. Minors can seek help through the ANAR Foundation’s helpline at 900 20 20 10. In emergencies, individuals should dial 112 or reach out to the Policía Nacional (091) or Guardia Civil (062). Those unable to call can use the ALERTCOPS app to send an alert with geolocation to the authorities.
As Spain mourns the victims of this violent summer, the country continues to grapple with the enduring crisis of gender-based violence, calling for renewed e orts to protect vulnerable women and children.
More new homes planned for Pilar
The Pilar de la Horadada City Council has provisionally approved the environmental assessment for the reclassification of 292,881 square meters of rustic land for the construction of 1,086 tourist homes in the Lo Monte Playa area.
The new housing development would have the capacity to take on 2,700 new inhabitants in a municipality that currently has just over 22,000 registered residents. These plots of land are located between the N-332 park road, Federico García Lorca Avenue in Mil Palmeras, Levante Avenue to the south and the coast.
The developer Santamar de la Vega justifies the reclassification on the grounds that the land “ has not been used for agricultural activities in the last 30 years and is simply wasteland with no agricultural value whatsoever. The developer also considers the area to be “degraded” and neds to be “filled in” because it is located between other established housing estates.
The investment in the urbanisation works to be carried out by Santamar,
which owns 98% of the land, is estimated at 21.7 million euros. The annual outlay for the municipal coffers to cover the basic services of lighting, cleaning and maintenance of green areas is around 410,000 euros. Meanwhile, the income for the City Council from IBI is estimated at around 578,000 euros per year, in addition to the construction tax and initial fees for licences.
The proposal for land reclassification was initiated by Santamar in mid-2015. This Orihuelabased firm is developing a partial plan in San Miguel de Salinas for 2,000 homes and has other projects in Orihuela and Torrevieja to develop commercial areas, as well as promoting the Los Náufragos skyscrapers in the latter municipality.
The Pilar scheme has been denied on two previous occasions as the Generalitat Valenciana did not believe the project met the growth forecasts provided for in the current Pilar General Plan. In its first reports of 2017, it indicated that the Territorial Strategy of the Valencian Community (ETCV) was not being
complied with, which limits the growth of municipalities based on the calculation of the maximum occupation of land for residential use. And it pointed out that in order to get around this limit, the municipality should simultaneously declassify developable land from the planning so that the sealing of land - what is occupied by housing and commercial areas on the total available land - could be considered sustainable.
Now the company, in its third attempt at presenting plans to the plenary session, says that it complies with the ETCV, but the proposal does not make clear to what extent it has changed its planning to comply with these provisions, without the municipality having declassified land in exchange for what is to be released. It only highlights the need to continue the process of urbanisation of the coast because it is already 70% consolidated in the rest of the area close to the plan. The procedure must now be validated by the Generalitat.
Spain aims for green electricity by 2030
Spain has set a new target for 81% of its electricity to come from renewable sources by the end of 2030, the government announced on Tuesday, as part of its e ort to meet climate goals. The updated plan, which has been submitted to the European Commission, also aims to cut the country’s greenhouse gas emissions by 32% compared to 1990 levels—a signi cant increase from the previous goal of 23% set in 2021.
Ecology Minister Teresa Ribera, who was recently appointed as the EU’s environmental commissioner, described the target as “ambitious but achievable.”
Ribera highlighted that the country’s rapid expansion of solar and wind energy would play a key role in meeting these targets. Spain’s renewable energy production, primarily from solar and wind farms, has already grown faster than anticipated in recent years.
Spain’s updated renewable energy goal represents a seven-point increase from the 74% target set in 2021. The government’s plan also aims to reduce the country’s dependency on foreign energy sources from 61% today to 50% by the end of the decade.
Spain’s investments in solar and wind farms, particularly
in the sparsely populated central regions of the Iberian Peninsula, have capitalized on the country’s sunny climate and strong winds. In 2023, for the rst time in history, more than half of Spain’s electricity came from renewable sources, with wind power contributing over 23% and solar energy making up 14%, according to Spain’s national grid operator.
The plan also includes a major boost for green hydrogen production, which is generated from renewable sources. The government has committed to producing 12 gigawatts of green hydrogen by 2030, tripling the previous goal of 4 gigawatts. Green hydrogen is seen as crucial
for decarbonizing sectors like industry and transportation.
Spain is positioning itself as a leader in green hydrogen production and plans to begin exporting the gas through a pipeline connecting Barcelona to Marseille in France, which is expected to be operational by 2030. However, some critics argue that scaling up green hydrogen production faces signi cant challenges, particularly due to high costs and a lack of existing infrastructure. Despite these concerns, Spain is pushing forward with its renewable energy ambitions, aiming to strengthen its role in the global energy transition.
Earth to get ‘mini-moon’ for two months
This month, Earth will temporarily gain a new celestial companion—a 10-meter-long asteroid known as “2024 PT5.” Researchers have announced that the asteroid joined Earth’s orbit on 29th September, acting as a “mini-moon” for approximately two months before departing on 25th November.
Mini-moons, unlike regular moons, are smaller astronomical bodies such as asteroids, comets, or space debris that get temporarily captured by a planet’s gravitational pull. They do not stay permanently and usually only visit for short periods of time.
Asteroid 2024 PT5 was rst discovered by an automated telescope in Sutherland, South Africa. The telescope, part of a NASA-funded system designed to detect potentially hazardous asteroids, identi ed the small object in an Earth-like orbit within the Arjuna asteroid belt. These types of asteroids are known for their small size, typically less than 30 meters in diameter, which
makes them di cult to observe without advanced equipment.
The problem with these asteroids is that they are small. Most of them are less than 30 meters wide. So amateurs, unfortunately, won’t be able to catch a glimpse of 2024 PT5 due to its dimness, but it will be visible through the specialised telescopes used by researchers.
Researchers from Madrid published their ndings earlier this month in Research Notes of the American Astronomical Society, noting that 2024 PT5 will undergo a “temporarily captured yby,” meaning it won’t complete a full orbit around Earth before departing back into space.
While mini-moons like 2024 PT5 are rare, their study holds potential for future ventures in asteroid mining. If these asteroids are large enough, they could provide a budgetfriendly opportunity for space mining operations, o ering valuable materials such as precious metals.
Despite their rarity, researchers anticipate that as we continue to explore
Supreme Court confirms life imprisonment for Elche baby murderer
The Criminal Division of the Supreme Court (SC) has con rmed a life sentence, which was subject to review, for a man for violently beating to death a seven-month-old baby in the family home in Elche. The child was the son of his partner.
The Supreme Court has rejected the appeal lodged by the convicted man against the ruling of the High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV) which con rmed the sentence imposed by a Jury Court of the Provincial Court of Alicante on the convicted man for the murder of the minor. The child’s mother was acquitted of the crime but was sentenced to one year in prison along with her partner for the crime of mistreatment.
The man’s appeal claimed that the facts constituted a crime of negligent
homicide, arguing that the accused could not reasonably be considered to have admitted the possibility of the minor’s death.
The judgment rejects the reason given and stresses that “it is di cult to deny that someone who, in a particularly violent manner, hit a minor, who was seven months old at the time of the events, up to four di erent times on the head,
did not contemplate the high probability of causing his death, a representation that did not inhibit him from developing his conduct.” Furthermore, it adds that “even on a more objective level of determination and from the application of the well-known doctrine of probability, the eventuality of this outcome is more than evident in terms that can easily be classi ed as highly probable.”
Mexico and Spain trade snubs
and understand near-Earth asteroids, mini-moons may become increasingly recognised. The Arjuna asteroid belt is still a great unknown as many of these small asteroids have “odd visibility windows,” which have historically made them hard to detect.
Earth is not alone in hosting mini-moons— Jupiter, for example, is known to attract these transient satellites due to its immense gravitational in uence. Along with minimoons, planets and dwarf planets across the solar system, such as Venus, Jupiter, and Pluto, also host “quasi-moons.” These space objects orbit the Sun but remain close to a planetary body.
Earth’s oldest known mini-moon was rst discovered in 1991 and left orbit in 1992. After 2024 PT5 departs in November, it is predicted to return for another temporary visit in 2055. As researchers continue to delve deeper into the nature of these mini-moons, their discoveries may shed more light on the hidden complexities of near-Earth space.
Claudia Sheinbaum, the president-elect of Mexico, confirmed that she did not invite Spain’s King Felipe to her inauguration because he did not respond to the letter sent by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, which demanded an apology for the excesses committed during the Spanish conquest of the Americas.
She acknowledged this in a statement in which she stated that she spoke with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez by phone a couple of days ago to discuss the matter.
“Unfortunately, this letter [sent by López Obrador] did not merit any direct response, as would have corresponded to the best diplomatic practice,” said Sheinbaum, who will assume the presidency on October 1. “Instead, part of the letter was leaked in the media and after that, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press release,”
Despite the snub to Felipe VI, Sheinbaum assured that “Mexico and Spain share a solid relationship of friendship,” but said that “it would benefit from a renewed perspective.” López Obrador endorsed his support for Sheinbaum’s decision, “like millions of Mexicans.” “They acted with a lot of arrogance, they never answered a respectful and formal letter,” lamented the president in his daily press conference.
The Spanish government has said that it will be boycotting the swearing-in ceremony of Mexican presidentelect Claudia Sheinbaum because King Felipe VI has not been invited.
Madrid called the king’s exclusion from the ceremony on 1 October ‘unacceptable’.
Mexico published the guest list a week ago for Sheinbaum’s inauguration, who will be the country’s first woman president following her left-wing ruling party’s landslide June election victory.
King Felipe VI was not on the list, which includes regional left-leaning leaders, and also US First Lady Jill Biden.
While Mexico and Spain have close historical and economic links, relations between the Latin American nation and its former colonial ruler have been strained since outgoing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador – an ally of Sheinbaum – took office in 2018.
Madrid has rejected his demand for an apology for the events of the Spanish conquest five centuries ago.
‘For this reason, the Spanish government has decided not to participate in the inauguration at any level,’ the Spanish foreign ministry said in a statement.
Cooking with Wine !
What could be more fun than cooking with Wine? And of course I don’t mean that we are going to cook well and use a glass of wine while cooking.
It can give a simple dish that little bit of spice that makes it an exceptional dish. In addition, it is a perfect way to prevent waste, because leftover wine from the previous evening can be used in the kitchen the next day.
The wine you choose to cook with may very well be the wine you like to drink yourself. A glass for you and a glass in the pan! The golden rule is that the wine must complement the dish. It has to merge, as it were. In the basic principles, we explain the best way to go about this
Fat substitute
It may sound silly, but wine works well as a fat substitute in recipes. When you take
some of the fat out of a dish, it is often the case that another ingredient has to be added to compensate for the lost fat or moisture in terms of avor. So basically, you no longer need to fry your meat in large amounts of oil or butter, but only a little bit; Supplement the rest with wine. Not only a lot tastier, but also better for the body.
Basic principles
1. Do you choose a dry or sweet wine?
A dry wine generally has a higher alcohol percentage and contains hardly any natural sugars. The sweeter varieties have (the name says it all) a lot more natural sugars. So the choice between these depends on the avor you want to create.
2.Tannins
The tannins are the bitter element in red wine. These are
easy to combine with spicy dishes or can act as an aroma enhancer for a juicy steak, for example.
3. What ts best?
The intention is, of course, that wine completes the dish. An easy mnemonic is to look at the color of the meat and the color of the wine. So for light ‘meats’ such as sh and chicken, light-colored wines or white wines go well. The darker-colored meats (beef, red meat) are best paired with dark-colored wines.
4. Preparation is key
Not only the type of meat, but also the way you prepare the meat is very important. For example, a full-bodied wine goes better with a spicy dish or a dish with heavy sauces.
A light red wine (sometimes a rosé) goes better with a dish with a creamy or light sauce.
5. Stick to the basics
It is important that you know what taste impressions the wine has (pear, citrus, wood, mushrooms, olives, melon, caramel, berries, chocolate, plums, co ee, etc.).
Based on this, you can make better combinations with dishes; This can make a huge di erence!
At Beau Wine Tastings we can give you the right advice with any wine you can start cooking. In advance, we wish you a tasty meal with a good glass of wine
Ground work begins on plot to house prefabs for Orihuela Costa School
Last Wednesday, work o cially began on preparing the plot that will host prefabricated school huts for Orihuela Costa, following the on-site signing of the staking and start of work agreement between the construction management team, the contractor, and the Orihuela City Council. This long-awaited project was announced by Councillor for Education, Vicente Pina, and Councillor for Urban Planning, Matías Ruiz.
The plot is located at 8 Níspero Street, on plot D1 in the PAU Los Dolses sector of Orihuela Costa. The adaptation work was awarded to the company Domingo Serna SL for a total of 189,288 euros, with an expected completion time of one month. The project includes constructing the support base for the prefabricated huts, ensuring they are installed evenly and
function as a cohesive unit.
In addition to the huts, the plot will be equipped with essential amenities for school activities, including a children’s play area and the repainting of the sports court. The scope of work involves demolishing part
of the existing concrete block wall (20x20x40 cm) coated with cement mortar, repairing the perimeter fence, reinforcing its posts, repainting the interior and exterior walls with white paint, and adding a screening mesh to the fence.
Orihuela enhances street cleaning capability with new vehicles and equipment
Orihuela City Council has announced a signi cant investment in new vehicles and machinery to enhance its Street Cleaning and Urban Solid Waste (USW) Collection Service. With a new investment of 5,390,000 euros, in addition to 2,555,000 euros approved earlier this year, the total funding for this upgrade amounts to 7,945,000 euros.
Councillor for Street Cleaning and Waste Management, Rocío Ortuño, emphasized the importance of this investment, noting that the current eet of vehicles and containers is outdated and insu cient to meet the needs of residents, particularly in the coastal areas where the population surges during the summer months.
The new equipment includes 4 side-loading garbage trucks, 3 rearloading garbage trucks,
5 dump trucks (3,500 kg), 540 rear-loading containers (750 L), 1,900 side-loading containers (2,900 L), 1 tanker truck, 4 sweepers, and 900 waste bins. These acquisitions complement other recent initiatives, such as purchasing open-box garbage trucks, a pressure washer, and electric blowers. Ortuño highlighted that this upgrade will improve service e ciency and reduce maintenance costs tied to the aging equipment.
This investment also aligns with legal requirements under Law 7/2022 on Waste and Contaminated Soils for a Circular Economy and follows the guidelines of the Local Waste Plan. Ortuño added, “These investments will not only enhance waste collection but also ensure compliance with regulations, promoting a more sustainable and environmentally friendly management model.”
Perpetrator of ‘man in the middle’ scam targeting Orihuela travel agency arrested
Agents of the National Police in Orihuela have arrested a 39-year-old Spanish man in connection with a fraud against a local travel agency. The man, who had a prior criminal record unrelated to this case, was detained after receiving funds from the scam, which involved intercepting email communications between the victim and another company. Authorities have referred the case to the Court of Instruction in Orihuela, and further arrests are possible.
The investigation began when the travel agency owner reported to the National Police that he had received an invoice via email from a partner company. After corresponding through email, the victim transferred €3,027 to what appeared to be the correct account. However, shortly afterward, the company that should have received
the payment contacted the agency, requesting payment for outstanding invoices. It was then that the victim realized they had been scammed. A review of the documents revealed that the account number on the last invoice had been changed, despite all other details being accurate.
The National Police traced the account that received the fraudulent payment, leading to the arrest of the suspect. It was discovered that he was working for a third party, transferring money between accounts while keeping 10% of each transaction. Further investigations revealed that he had processed other transfers, some exceeding €4,500.
Authorities suspect that a more strategic individual is behind the fraud scheme, profiting significantly from these activities. The
arrested man’s role was primarily as a money mule, moving funds between accounts. Police confirm that this type of scam, known as “Man in the Middle” fraud, is common in cybercrime. In such cases, criminals intercept communications between businesses, impersonating one of the participants to redirect payments to their own accounts.
To prevent falling victim to similar frauds, businesses are urged to maintain updated computer systems, use corporate email exclusively for business purposes, regularly update passwords, train staff on cybercrime awareness, block spam emails, and confirm sensitive financial transactions by phone. Double-checking account details before making transfers is also a recommended safeguard against such scams.
The Generalitat invests in road improvements in the Vega Baja
The Department of Environment, Infrastructure, and Territory has initiated road surface rehabilitation on several deteriorated regional roads in southern Alicante, including the Vega Baja region. The project, which also covers roads in Baix Vinalopó, involves an investment of 1,538,975 euros and is expected to be completed within four months.
In the Vega Baja, repairs will focus on the most worn sections of the CV-870 and CV-930 roads in Orihuela. Additionally, work will be carried out on the initial sections of the CV-925 and CV-95 roads in Orihuela and Bigastro. The CV-920 road will also undergo surface restoration as it passes through Algorfa, Almoradí, and Rojales. Speci cally, on the CV870 road, a 2,700-metre section between PK 0+200 and PK 2+900 will be addressed, with a budget of 238,639.90 euros. For the CV-930 road, work will cover a 2,700-metre stretch between PK 3+900 and PK 6+600, with a budget of 241,709 euros.
euros. On the CV-920 road, a 5,800-metre stretch will be repaired with a budget of 393,943 euros.
Furthermore, the CV-95 road will see improvements in the Correntías de Orihuela crossing over a 2,370-metre section, along with a 1,360-metre section in Bigastro. The CV-925 road will also undergo a 250-metre rehabilitation. The budget for these three sections totals 487,027
María José Martínez Ruzafa, Director General of Infrastructure and Urban Projects, emphasized that these works will halt pavement deterioration, ensuring road sustainability. She also noted that “improving surface texture will enhance driving safety by increasing tyre grip on the road.”
VISIT THE MAGICAL VIEWPOINT OF BENIDORM
Known as Balcón del Mediterráneo, this is one of the best viewpoints on the Costa Blanca, where you can see the skyscrapers of Benidorm, the beaches of Poniente and Levante, the marina, and the promenade lined with palm trees. Located on top of a rock, acting as a divider between the two main sandy beaches of the city, this place is a real treasure that o ers the best panoramic view from all over Benidorm. It is amazing to observe the crystal clear waters of the nearby cove from the viewpoint, which is highly visited during the day, but then at night, with less crowding and being illuminated, the ambiance magically transforms
to o er another spectacular view of the city. The Balcón del Mediterráneo is located within close walking proximity to the Plaza de la Señoría, the Parish of San Jaime and Santa Ana and the Plaza del Castillo, which is next to the arch of the Plaza de Castelar. A delightful part of the old town to also pay a visit, where you can stroll around and explore the little streets, and then relax to soak up the atmosphere sitting at one of the outdoor cafe terraces. The release of the UK’s PMI data from last week seemed to continue to bene t the pound throughout the week, despite Keir Starmer’s comments that the government’s rst budget in October is “going to be painful”. This followed last week’s higher-than-expected UK government borrowing for July, which stoked fears that Chancellor Rachel Reeves may need to raise taxes in her upcoming budget.
Last week’s Manufacturing and Services PMI data for the UK both came in ahead of market expectations, with manufacturing coming in at 52.5, a 26-month high and services PMI at 53.3, a 4-month high. The Bank of England’s Governor Andrew Bailey commented on the latest data; “This is consistent with a process of disin ation which is steady and more in keeping with a soft landing than a recessioninduced process.”
Bailey also added that the central bank should be “careful not to cut interest rates too quickly or by too much.” His more hawkish comments have fed into markets expecting interest rates to hold steady at the next monetary policy meeting on 19th September, with only a 21.7% chance of a 25-basis point cut.
Following its multi-week upward trend, sterling remains on the front foot. GBP/USD rose as much as 0.85% at the end of last week, following dovish comments from the Federal Reserve’s Chair Jerome Powell at the Jackson Hole Symposium, which provoked signi cant
selling in the USD. The currency pair is now experiencing two-year highs, which has seen the pound reach its highest level since March 2022 and is currently still above 1.32.
Against the euro, the pound is seeing threeweek highs and is sitting just above 1.19.
This week was relatively quiet for UK data following Monday’s bank holiday, with no notable data events.
EUR
European PMIs came out broadly lower than expected last week. Germany’s manufacturing and services PMI fell below forecast by 1.3 and 0.9 points, coming in at 42.1 and 51.4, respectively. In France, the data painted a similar picture in the manufacturing industry, with the PMI coming in 2.3 points below forecast at 42.1, while the services PMI was more favourable at 55.0, 4.8 points above forecast.
On Thursday, the German Preliminary CPI monthly data was released. Markets expected in ation to fall to 2.1% from 2.3% in July, but it fell below expectation to 1.9%.
Additionally, the CPI Flash Estimate yearly data was released for the European Union this morning, which saw in ation fall from 2.6% to 2.2%

Spain sets new record in overnight hotel stays thanks to foreign tourists
According to new data, tourists spent an average of 147 euros per night for hotel accommodations across Spain last month.
The Average Daily Rate (ADR) for occupied rooms rose by 7.3% in August compared to the same month last year, which was already a record. Figures released by Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE) revealed that hotel revenues were 34% higher than in 2019, prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, and increased by 7% compared to what was previously the best year, 2023.
In August, overnight hotel stays reached a record high of 47.8 million, according to the INE. For the rst eight months of the year, overnight stays have increased by 5.6% compared to 2023. This growth occurred despite a slight dip in domestic tourism, with hotel stays by Spaniards
declining by 0.3% compared to the previous year. However, international tourism remains robust, with overnight stays rising by 5% thus far this year.
While the average hotel rate was 147 euros, signi cant variations exist based on the type of accommodation. Fivestar hotels averaged over 311 euros per night, while four-star hotels charged an average of 156 euros. Three-star hotels o ered rooms at an average
rate of 127 euros. According to the INE, Marbella was the top Spanish tourist destination for hotel revenues, with an average price of 312 euros in August.
Spaniards favored Andalucía, Catalonia, and Valencia as their primary holiday destinations, while international visitors showed a preference for the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, and the Canary Islands. The most popular destinations for overnight stays in August were Barcelona, Calviá (Mallorca), and Madrid.
The British market continues to lead in tourist arrivals, accounting for 25% of visitors in August. Since January 2022, UK holidaymakers have been the largest group for hotel overnight stays among foreign visitors in Spain. Following the UK, Germans made up 16% of total bookings, with the French at 12%, Italians at 6.6%, and Dutch travelers at 5.3%.
Dolores City Council launches the Educand@ Plan for free school supplies
The Dolores City Council has introduced the Educand@ Plan, an initiative aimed at providing nancial support to local primary schools to alleviate the costs families face at the start of the school year. With a budget of 27,000 euros, the funds will be directly allocated as subsidies to the three primary schools in the municipality: CEIP Cardenal Belluga, CEIP
San Francisco de Asís, and CEIP Virgen de los Dolores. Mayor Joaquín Hernández explained that the schools will manage these funds to purchase essential school supplies. The goal is to ensure that education in Dolores is free, reducing the nancial burden on families. The mayor also mentioned the Consumption Bonus, another measure introduced to assist the
community nancially. Hernández emphasized that the initiative represents a step toward fully free education in the municipality, and the plan will be assessed after the academic year to determine if further nancial support is needed. Councillor for Education Rita Flores highlighted the additional resources devoted to maintaining the schools, ensuring a safe and conducive environment for learning.
The school directors—José Manuel Bordonado (CEIP Cardenal Belluga), Sergio Larrosa (CEIP San Francisco de Asís), and Roberto Fernández (CEIP Virgen de los Dolores)—welcomed the plan. They stressed that it will provide equal opportunities for all students by covering the cost of disposable school materials, thus contributing to a high-quality, accessible education for all children.
Medicines agency issues recall of popular antibiotic batch in Spain
The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS), under the Ministry of Health, has issued a recall for a batch of the antibiotic Augmentine, a commonly prescribed treatment for bacterial infections, particularly ear and respiratory tract infections in children.
The recall is due to a defect in the sealing of some bottles, which, according to AEMPS, does not pose a signi cant health risk to patients but indicates a lapse in the medicine’s quality control.
The a ected product is Augmentine 100 mg/ml +
12.5 mg/ml powder for oral suspension in 40 ml bottles, speci cally from batch CP3W, with an expiration date of August 31, 2025.
If you have this medication at home, it is advised not to use it and to return it to a pharmacy for a replacement.
Renfe boosts revenue following record summer passenger numbers
Spain’s national train operator, Renfe, has signi cantly improved its nancial performance in 2024 compared to the heavy losses of the previous year. Although the company remains in the red, its overall situation has become more positive. Renfe’s revenue increased by 3% to 2.46 billion euros, thanks to a record number of passengers, reducing its annual loss to 33.7 million euros—half of 2023’s de cit.
The company credits this improvement to an e ciency plan aimed at boosting competitiveness. As a result, Renfe’s pro tability has increased, with gross operating pro t (Ebitda) rising 13% yearon-year to 207 million euros. A dedicated review group monitors the plan monthly, analyzing performance across rail corridors and assessing its impact on Ebitda.
The surge in summer
passengers played a key role in the improved results. Renfe transported 8.1 million passengers on its AVE, Avlo, Euromed, Alvia, and Intercity services during the 2024 summer season—21% more than the 6.7 million users in the same period last year. This gure surpasses the 2019 summer record of 7.2 million passengers.
Routes with the highest demand included
connections between Madrid and Andalucía, followed by MadridCatalonia, the Cantabrian coast, and the Valencia region. The increase in passengers was particularly notable along the Cantabrian coast, including destinations like Galicia and Asturias, largely due to the addition of new Avlo 106 trains, which o er maximum capacity on the Spanish rail network.
New health cards approved for nationwide patient data access by professionals
Spain is set to introduce new unified health cards that may soon be available in both physical and digital formats on mobile devices.
Last week, government ministers approved the final specifications, ensuring the card is accessible for individuals with disabilities, as well as incorporating technical features like a magnetic strip and QR code.
Health Minister Mónica García emphasized that the new format will enhance the integration of digital services across regional health systems, eliminating issues such as incompatibility between cards with chips in one region and magnetic strips in another. This change will enable healthcare professionals to access patient data from different regions more efficiently.
Cost Reduction
Under a Royal Decree, all Spanish regions are required to issue the new cards within 18 months. The cards can be provided in physical, digital,
Currently, seeking primary care or visiting a pharmacy outside one’s home region can be challenging for patients and healthcare providers. If the computer systems are not compatible or if regional governments lack bilateral health agreements, patients may leave consultations frustrated, often opting to delay medical visits until they return home.
or both formats. The Health Ministry noted that the digital version, akin to transport passes or bank cards already used on smartphones, will eliminate the necessity of carrying a physical card to access healthcare, thereby reducing printing and distribution costs.
The card will contain “basic common data,” including details such as the issuing region, public health system information,
a personal identification code, and the holder’s name. Regions will have the option to include the holder’s national identity number (DNI), social security number, emergency health contact number, and a photograph.
Enhanced Accessibility
The new cards are also designed to improve accessibility for people with disabilities.
Each physical health card will feature Braille initials in the lower right corner for visually impaired users.
According to the Health Ministry, while the traditional health card identifies patients in any public health facility or pharmacy across Spain, the reality is more complex. Although emergency care typically runs smoothly, access to primary care can vary by region, with doctors often lacking the necessary patient history. This obstacle is expected to be resolved within the next 18 months.
“The single card has been a long-awaited change. It is unreasonable to have 17 different cards instead of one that serves the entire national system,” stated José Polo, president of the Spanish Society of Primary Care Doctors (Semergen). “The health card should allow all doctors to access patients’ medical records,” he added.

Spain proposes exempting most vulnerable from prostheses and wheelchair costs
This autumn, the Spanish government aims to push forward with a bill that includes key reforms to enhance equity and cohesion in the national public health system (SNS). If approved by parliament, one of the most impactful changes for citizens will be in Article 3 of the law, which would exempt over six million Spaniards from copayments on prosthetic devices and other products necessary for managing temporary or permanent disabilities, such as wheelchairs and hearing aids.
The reform, spearheaded by the Ministry of Health, would benefit Spain’s most vulnerable groups. These individuals have already been exempt from co-payments on medications prescribed by the public health system since January 1, 2021. The new law extends this exemption to cover prosthetics and other medical aids.
Those eligible for co-payment exemptions include pensioners
with an annual income below
€5,635 and individuals not required to file taxes due to earnings under €11,200. Families of minors with a registered disability of 33% or more, beneficiaries of the Minimum Vital Income, recipients of non-contributory benefits for dependent children, and the unemployed without subsidies will also be exempt. The list further includes recipients of noncontributory pensions and certain individuals with specific illnesses.
For other citizens, co-payment structures will remain unchanged. Pensioners earning up to €18,000 per year will pay 10% of the cost, with a cap of €8.23. Those earning between €18,000 and €100,000 will also pay 10%, but with a higher cap of €18.52, while pensioners earning above €100,000 will contribute 60%, with a ceiling of €60. No such caps exist for workers and their families.
Depending on income, they will pay between 40% and 60% of the cost of medicines or prosthetics.
The co-payment exemptions for vulnerable groups will apply to all external prosthetics, including limb, joint, facial, or dental prostheses, orthoses for the spine, hands, or feet, orthopaedic footwear, wheelchairs, crutches, and hearing aids, among others.
If passed, the bill would come into effect 20 days after being published in the state’s official bulletin (BOE). The reform is part of a broader effort to reverse the austerity measures introduced in 2012 by former Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy’s government, which expanded co-payments for medicines, health transportation, and prosthetic products. It is one of three legislative proposals aimed at restoring universal healthcare and reducing the potential for privatization in the public health system, which were introduced by the Partido Popular (PP) government 12 years ago.

“How is Internet speed quoted and what does it mean in practice”?
Internet speed is measured in Mbps per second – Mbps/sec (Mega bits per second) Files are measured in M Bytes per second.
How Many Megabytes per second in a Megabit per second?
1 Megabyte/sec is equal to 8 × Megabit/sec.
1 Megabit/s = 0.125 Megabytes/ sec. Internet speed refers to the speed at which data or content travels from

the World Wide Web to your home computer, tablet, or smartphone. The speed of this data is measured in megabits per second (Mbps).
It is recommended at least 3 to 4 Mbps for standard definition video streaming, 5 to 8 Mbps for highdefinition video streaming, and at least 25 Mbps for streaming Ultra HD 4K videos.
Your hard drive doesn’t have any effect on your download speed, but how you use that drive during downloads can. If you’re multitasking while downloading, such as transferring files or using other programs during the download, it can slow things down as your hard drive attempts to do too many things at once.
The equation for calculating download time is:
• File Size in Megabytes / (Download Speed in Megabits / 8) = Time For example:
• 50MB / (10Mbps/8) = 40 seconds
• 50 MB / (100Mbps/8) = 4 seconds
“How should I deal with my passwords”?
Passwords are used across the web for several reasons. Logins to online shopping and social media accounts are just the tip of the iceberg, with more important uses, such as online banking and PINs
being the riskiest. The scary thing is, if someone manages to hack your email account due to an insecure password, they have access to almost every online account and bank account you’ve ever set up. So, being sure to keep your passwords safe is essential.
How to protect your passwords
•Set up secure passwords to begin with.
•Don’t always use the same password.
•Keep passwords in a safe place offline.
•Keep your passwords safe online.
•Install anti-malware software.
•Use multi-authentication.
•Be vigilant.

Oasis’s sell-out 2025 reunion tour may not be televised, but fans could still hear the show from their homes.
Brothers Liam, 52, and Noel Gallagher, 57, have reportedly been in talks to record a live album to celebrate and honour their live gigs which puts an end to a 15-year feud, according to The Sun.
And it is thought that the duo are likely to accept the o ered deal as they will have the chance to solidify the historical event.
Phillip Scho eld and his family appeared to mock his former co-star and best friend Holly Willoughby’s famous ‘are you ok?’ clip as he made his return to TV.
The presenter, 62, will appear on Channel 5’s Cast Away, set to air on Monday, in which he thanks Ant McPartlin, 48, and Dec Donnelly, 49, as well as Joanna Lumley, 78, - but fails to mention Holly, 43.
During the show, he will discuss his bitter parting of ways with ITV and This Morning, which he hosted for 21 years, while fending for himself on a remote island paradise, located o the coast of Madagascar.
George Clooney has sold his Los Angeles estate, which once belonged to Stevie Nicks, for $14.5 million.
According to TMZ, the 63-year-old lmmaker — who recently revealed the prank he once played on Tom Cruise — has given up his six bedroom Studio City mansion after owning it for almost 30 years.
The Fryman Canyon home was sold to Clooney in 1995 for just $2.2 million by the Fleetwood Mac superstar.
He was once the king of daytime television and one of ITV’s highest paid stars.
But when disgraced presenter Phillip Scho eld quit the channel last year after he admitted to having a relationship with a much younger male colleague on This Morning - and later lying about it - he said things became so dark that he planned to take his own life.
In his much criticised television comeback on Channel 5 programme Cast Away he tells how he had ‘everything in place’ for a suicide attempt, but decided against it when his eldest daughter Molly persuaded him not to.

Health & Beauty
My husband and I were called to go home when my sister was dying; I will never forget it, or get over it. She had cancer during Covid and we were not able to see one another. We were not wanted at the funeral a month later, and treated badly when we arrived. When we had gone back at other times, we were met at the Airport and put up their spare room. This time, we were asked if we wouldn’t be happier in a B&B, and were told the family was too busy, and to get a taxi from the Airport. When we got there, there were plenty of relatives available who could have met us at the Airport. We were definitely being treated badly on purpose; my Uncle was picked up and put in a taxi after the wake; we were asked to get a taxi home. We stayed at their house at my insistence that they had enough room to host us, but were relegated to sleeping on the sofa, when the younger members took the bedrooms. When we arrived we were not offered even a drink. It was lunch time and no food was forthcoming. The funeral was traumatic, and the wake even more so. Perhaps we have been in Spain too long, but the wake was a poppy show; a big affair more like a wedding reception with everyone required to dress up; there was dancing, champagne, balloons, favours, speeches, cavorting and laughing. My husband and I just wanted to grieve quietly after the funeral; sandwiches and drinks at the local Rugby Club would have been sufficient. Two and half years later, we are invited to my nephew’s wedding.
There followed a WhatsApp exchange started by me, saying that we would not attend due to the way we were treated at my sister’s funeral. I held nothing back. Once bitten; twice shy. Now I am being called petty.
Your longer email tells me why you think you were treated badly, and I don’t blame you for not wanting to return to England again. You tell me that you held nothing back in telling your family why you would not be returning home for a wedding, or anything else. I agree that you are justified in so doing. You tell me that you and your husband are getting older and are too old for family dramas. There should come a time when we should all live our lives exactly the way we want to, and you must now do so. Life is very short, as we know.

Microneedling is a great treatment for revitalizing the skin, especially during cooler weather when you’re less likely to be exposed to harsh sun. It’s also the perfect time to focus on rejuvenating your skin after summer.Skin rejuvenation is important after summer because the season can take a toll on the skin due to increased exposure to sun, heat, and environmental factors. Here’s why it’s crucial:
1. Sun Damage Repair: Prolonged sun exposure can lead to UV damage, resulting in sunburn, hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and an increased risk of premature aging, such as wrinkles and fine lines. Rejuvenation helps restore the skin’s natural balance and repair this damage.
2. Dehydration Recovery: Heat, sweat, and outdoor activities can deplete the skin of moisture, making it appear dull and flaky. Post-summer skin care focuses on hydrating and replenishing lost moisture.
3. Exfoliation and Cell Renewal: The buildup of dead skin cells from sweat, sunscreen, and heat can clog pores and make the skin look dull. Rejuvenation treatments, like exfoliation, promote healthy cell turnover and improve skin texture.
4. Prevent Premature Aging: Sun exposure accelerates skin aging, contributing to fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. Skin rejuvenation treatments can boost collagen production, helping the skin stay youthful.
Rejuvenating the skin postsummer ensures it remains healthy, radiant, and protected against further damage.
Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that helps with skin rejuvenation by stimulating the skin’s natural healing process. Here’s how it works:
1. Creates Micro-Injuries:
The microneedling device uses fine needles to create tiny, controlled injuries on the skin’s
Benefits of Turmeric
Turmeric is an Asian spice that comes from the turmeric plant Curcuma longa, part of the ginger Zingiberaceae family. It contains curcumin, a natural pigment that gives turmeric its yellow color.1
Turmeric has been found to have both anti-in ammatory and antioxidant properties. Both turmeric and curcumin are thought to help with numerous in ammatory conditions, including osteoarthritis (OA), seasonal allergies, and respiratory (lung) infections.2 Some research also shows turmeric can help improve health conditions such as depression, hyperlipidemia (high blood fat levels), and Alzheimer’s disease.1
You can consume turmeric as a spice or tea or take it as a supplement. Generally, turmeric
supplements are well tolerated in doses from 4,000-8,000 milligrams (mg) per day.3 However, there are a few side e ects and risks associated with turmeric supplementation, including gastrointestinal (GI) upset, blood thinning, and liver disease.
surface. These micro-injuries trigger the body’s wound-healing response without causing actual harm.
2. Stimulates Collagen Production:
As the skin heals, it produces more collagen and elastin—proteins responsible for maintaining skin structure and elasticity. This increased production helps:
Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Improve skin texture and tone.
Tighten and firm the skin.
3. Enhances Cell Turnover:
Microneedling encourages the skin to renew itself by promoting faster cell turnover. This helps to:
Fade scars (such as acne scars).
Diminish hyperpigmentation or dark spots.
Improve skin’s overall radiance and smoothness.
4. Improves Product Absorption:
The tiny channels created during microneedling allow for better absorption of topical treatments like serums, making them more effective in penetrating deeper layers of the skin.
5. Minimal Downtime and
Versatility:
It is a versatile treatment that works on various skin types and can target specific issues like aging signs, acne scars, large pores, and sun damage with minimal recovery time.
In summary, microneedling rejuvenates the skin by boosting collagen, enhancing texture, and reducing imperfections, making it a popular choice for improving skin health and appearance.

From the age of 60, four out of ten men develop some condition related to prostate cancer
• Experts recommend regular tests such as PSA analysis and digital rectal exams, especially in men over the age of 45.
• The Da Vinci robotic surgery offers the best outcomes for patients requiring radical prostatectomy.
On the occasion of Prostate Health Day, celebrated across Europe every 15th of September, Dr Sven Petry, Head of the Urology Department and expert in Robotic Surgery at Quirónsalud Hospital in Torrevieja, warns that from the age of 50, the likelihood of developing prostate disorders increases significantly. By the age of 60, 40% of men show some focus related to prostate cancer.
The most common prostate disorders
According to Dr Sven Petry, the three most common prostate conditions are prostatitis, which is an infection of the prostate, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and prostate cancer.
Although these conditions are unrelated, they share certain symptoms. “Hyperplasia and sometimes prostate cancer can cause difficulty in urination due to the pressure the enlarged prostate exerts on the urethra,” explains Dr Petry. “In the case of prostatitis, the symptoms are different, such as high fever, pain when urinating, and pain during ejaculation due to acute inflammation of the gland.”
grow slowly, allowing many patients to be diagnosed at early stages. “When detected early, the likelihood of a cure is extremely high,” says Dr Petry. For this reason, experts recommend regular tests such as PSA analysis and digital rectal exams, particularly for men over 45.
The importance of prevention and early detection Prostate cancer tends to
While there are no specific preventive measures for prostate cancer, urology specialists agree that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is key. “A balanced diet, rich in Mediterranean
foods and low in fat, along with physical exercise, an active sex life, avoiding smoking, and moderate alcohol consumption, are universal recommendations for reducing the overall risk of cancer,” advises Dr Petry.

use of this technology fifteen years ago.
As Dr Sven Petry explains, thanks to the Da Vinci robotic surgery system, “Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital offers the best treatment with the best outcomes for prostate cancer patients who require radical prostatectomy.”
Regarding the many advantages, the specialist highlights improved recovery of urinary continence as well as the full restoration of erectile function, with higher success rates compared to traditional surgery.
“Another advantage is the quick recovery of the patient, who can return to a completely normal life within four weeks after being discharged,” concludes the urological robotic surgery specialist at Quirónsalud Torrevieja.

The five Spanish provinces with the highest vehicle theft rates
Car theft in Spain rose by 2.5% during the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, with notable increases in provinces such as Malaga, Cantabria, Tarragona, Girona, and Alicante, according to the Ministry of the Interior’s quarterly crime report.
From April to June 2024, a total of 8,241 vehicles were stolen, an increase from the same period last year when 213 fewer units were reported stolen. This timeframe coincides with holiday periods like the 1 May public holiday and San Isidro, where many individuals travel, leaving their cars at home or relying on public transport.
In the first six months of 2024, 16,272 vehicles were stolen, representing an increase of 403 thefts (2.5%) compared to the same period in 2023. Madrid and Barcelona continue to lead in vehicle theft, with 3,614 and 3,320 incidents, respectively. While Madrid saw a 1.1%
increase in thefts, Barcelona experienced a 4.5% decline.
Certain regions, such as Toledo, Girona, Alicante, and Malaga, saw significant increases, with thefts rising by over 50 cases, while other areas, including Álava, Ourense, Lugo, and Albacete, reported decreases.
To combat the rising threat of car theft, installing advanced vehicle alarm systems is recommended. LoJack, a leading provider, uses radio frequency technology to track and recover stolen vehicles, even in areas where GPS systems may not function,
such as underground garages or metal structures. Unlike systems connected to vehicle batteries, LoJack remains operational even if the battery is disconnected, enhancing its effectiveness.
José Ignacio Rubio, General Manager of LoJack Iberia, emphasized that the rise in thefts highlights the need for both private vehicle owners and local authorities to adopt comprehensive security measures, including solutions like LoJack, to tackle the growing issue of car theft in Spain.

Jude Bellingham ‘awarded lucrative pay rise by Real Madrid
Antony oshua s next fight shortlist
Jude Bellingham has received a significant salary boost at Real Madrid, bringing his annual earnings in line with the club’s top earner, Kylian Mbappé, according to reports from Spain. After Mbappé’s summer arrival as a free agent from Paris SaintGermain, he was placed on a base wage of €15 million (£12.6 million) per year, overtaking Bellingham and Vinícius Júnior, who had been earning €10 million (£8.4 million).
To prevent any potential discomfort or wage disparities, Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Pérez, has reportedly increased Bellingham and Vinícius’s annual salaries by €5 million (£4.2 million), placing all three stars at the €15 million (£12.6 million) mark. This equal treatment is aimed at maintaining harmony among the club’s top talents.
Real Madrid’s wage structure reveals other key earners as well. David Alaba is reportedly the next highest-paid player, earning €22.5 million (£18.9 million) annually, followed by Federico Valverde (€16.7 million/£14 million), and Thibaut Courtois (€15 million/£12.6 million). Not far behind are Antonio Rüdiger and Éder Militão on €14.8 million (£12.4 million), while Rodrygo, Aurélien Tchouaméni, and Eduardo Camavinga are each on €12.5 million (£10.5 million).
Bellingham’s performances
have been widely praised since his move to Madrid, including from former England striker Michael Owen, who lauded his ability to thrive under pressure at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Owen highlighted Bellingham’s “swagger” and “big-game energy,” cementing his status as one of the world’s top players at both club and international levels.
It seems Anthony Joshua is facing some big decisions regarding his next ght, especially after the signi cant defeat to Daniel Dubois. Promoter Eddie Hearn has named three major potential opponents:
Tyson Fury: A long-awaited all-British showdown between Joshua and Fury has been teased for years. Fury is set to rematch Oleksandr Usyk in December, and depending on the result, a ght with Joshua could be a high-pro le bout. If Fury wins, a voluntary defense against Joshua might happen. If Fury loses again, both ghters could be looking for redemption, making this ght even more enticing.
Deontay Wilder: Wilder, a former WBC heavyweight champion,
has been on Joshua’s radar for a while. With his knockout power and history as one of the division’s most dangerous punchers, a ght with Wilder could be thrilling. Both ghters have experienced setbacks in recent years, so a clash between them would be a high-stakes contest.
Daniel Dubois (rematch): Despite there being no rematch clause, a second ght with Dubois is still possible. If Joshua wants immediate redemption from his recent defeat, he might pursue a rematch to prove that the loss was just a bad night.
Each opponent o ers a di erent path for Joshua, whether it’s redemption, a domestic grudge match, or a battle for his standing among the top heavyweights.
Abbey Anglers
On Tuesday the 17th of September we fished the 5thround of the Autumn cup at the El Bosquet complex in Crevillent. The weather was set fair and as no other anglers were on the complex we decided to spread out and fish four section of 4 but we did leave several pegs for pleasure anglers but only one other angler turned up. Winner on the day was Lenny Bolton from the in form peg 22. He fished both the pole and feeder to catch some decent carp and weighed 23.60kg.
In second place was Nick “ I never draw a decent peg” Bastock who after moaning like mad about peg 34 he caught steadily on both pole and feeder and weighed 21.90kg. Third spot was a very tight affair with 5 anglers within a kilo of each other. The eventual honour went to Tony Felstead who may well need some of his winnings to replace a top 3 from a pole that was broken by an fish and was never seen again. Tony weighed 14.64kg. the Autumn cup is hotting up with several anglers still in the running.
