Rojales pensioner rescued after two days on the floor
An 86-year-old woman was rescued by local police at her home in Rojales after su ering a fall and being trapped on the oor for two days. The incident unfolded when the woman’s son, who lives in Belgium, contacted the Rojales Policia Local, expressing concern as his calls and texts had gone unanswered.
Police o cers respond promptly to the distress call and arrived at the woman’s home but faced the challenge of gaining entry. However, with the assistance of the gardeners employed by the woman, they managed to access the grounds surrounding the property. Despite not having any keys to the property, the o cers were determined to check on the welfare of the woman and peered through the windows. They were able to see the elderly woman lying on the oor and although she looked weak, luckily, she was still alive, and o cers could see her breathing and making slight movements.
Taking immediate action, the o cers
entered the house through a kitchen window and urgently requested medical support. Paramedics swiftly arrived at the scene, working diligently to stabilise the woman’s condition before transporting her to Torrevieja Hospital for further treatment.
Antonio Javier Lopez García, the councillor responsible for citizen safety and security in Rojales, commended the police o cers for their swift and e cient response. He expressed his gratitude, stating, “Our o cers demonstrated remarkable responsiveness, acting quickly and e ectively to prevent a tragic outcome.”
García further added, “We sincerely hope that our beloved resident recovers swiftly from this ordeal.”
This incident follows a similar rescue operation carried out by the police in Torrevieja just last month. In that instance, a 78-year-old woman had fallen out of bed and remained stranded on the oor for three days before being rescued.
These recent cases highlight the importance of regular communication and check-ins with elderly relatives or neighbours, especially those who live alone. Prompt reporting of any concerns can potentially save lives and ensure the well-being of vulnerable individuals within the community.
Authorities are reminding the public to remain vigilant and extend a helping hand whenever necessary. Additionally, they urge individuals to keep emergency contact information readily available and to reach out to local authorities in case of any alarming circumstances.

Hugger mugger arrested
Minister proposes 20,000€ for every young person
In a bold move to address social inequality and promote equal opportunities, Spain’s left-wing labour minister, Yolanda Díaz, has unveiled a groundbreaking scheme that would provide every young person in the country with a €20,000 grant. The funds are intended to be used for educational pursuits, vocational training, or even starting a business once the recipients turn 18.
The initiative, announced by Díaz’s Sumar platform ahead of Spain’s upcoming general election on 23rd July, is estimated to cost €10 billion. The proposed funding would be acquired through increased taxation on the wealthy, marking a concerted e ort to redistribute resources for the bene t of the younger generation.
young people the chance to forge their own futures, unencumbered by familial status or nancial limitations.
“It’s about letting young people have a future and giving them the chance to study or start a business without that having to depend on their surnames or the family they are from,” she said.
The policy, dubbed the “universal inheritance,” would be accessible to all young Spaniards, irrespective of their economic circumstances. The funding for this transformative measure is projected to be acquired through a tax on individuals earning more than €3 million per year, with Sumar estimating the cost to amount to 0.8% of Spain’s GDP.
the policy. Nadia Calviño, the economy minister in Spain’s socialist-led coalition government, questioned the feasibility of providing subsidies and grants without income restrictions or de ned objectives.
Calviño stressed the need for an explanation regarding the nancing of the proposal while upholding responsible scal policies in the years to come.
The opposition conservative People’s Party (PP), currently leading the socialists in the polls, also voiced their scepticism. A spokesperson criticized Sumar for misplaced priorities and suggested that the government focus on addressing other pressing issues in the country.
National Police o cers have arrested a 25-year-old Romanian woman in the city of Alicante who was wanted by more than twenty courts throughout the country, including Orihuela.
It is believed the woman has committed several crimes in Orihuela Costa and surrounding areas over recent months.
O cers from the Second Organised Crime Group of the Provincial Brigade of the National Police managed to
locate the wanted woman in the city of Alicante, for which there were 29 outstanding judicial arrest warrants.
The young woman was wanted for thefts and robberies with violence and is alleged to be part of an itinerant group that commits crimes against personal property, and specialised in what is known as being a ‘hugger mugger’.
The arrested woman was wanted by the Courts of Jerez de
la Frontera, Oviedo, Antequera, Arona, Cartagena, Valladolid, Vélez-Málaga, Estepona, Seville, Algeciras, Benidorm, Chiclana de la Frontera, Vigo, Córdoba, Marbella, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria , Málaga, Valencia, Orihuela, San Javier, San Roque and Totana, some of them even issuing several warrants for the woman’s arrest.
The detainee was made available to the Investigating Court of Alicante Guard.
Sumar emphasizes the importance of ensuring “equality of opportunity” regardless of an individual’s family background or income level. Under this scheme, the cash grants would commence at age 18 and continue until the age of 23. Moreover, administrative support would be provided to assist young individuals in pursuing their chosen paths, be it further education, vocational training, or entrepreneurial endeavours.
Speaking at a press conference in Madrid recently, Minister Díaz expressed her belief in granting
While the proposal has generated both interest and scepticism across Spain’s political spectrum, Minister Díaz remains undeterred. Raised in a workingclass, communist household, she shared her personal experience of being unable to pursue her dream of becoming an employment inspector due to nancial constraints. The “universal inheritance,” she a rmed, aims to rectify such barriers and grant all young people in Spain a future unburdened by their surnames.
Criticism
However, concerns have been raised regarding the practicality and scal implications of
They highlighted the challenges faced by a signi cant portion of the population, including high unemployment rates, social exclusion risks for 27% of the population, nancial struggles among families, and the plight of self-employed individuals.
As Spain prepares for its snap general election, the proposed “universal inheritance” policy has ignited a national conversation about combating social inequality and the role of scal policies in fostering equal opportunities for all young Spaniards. The outcome of the election will likely determine whether this ambitious scheme becomes a reality.

Cannabis club in Benidorm closed for selling to tourists
A cannabis club operating from a prominent city centre location in Benidorm has been forcibly closed by authorities after an investigation revealed the illegal sale of drugs, primarily targeting foreign tourists. The Policia Nacional apprehended ve individuals, including club o cials, in connection with the illicit activities. Substantial amounts of narcotics and cash were seized during the operation.
Under Spanish law, licensed cannabis associations are allowed to operate as membersonly clubs, where individuals are permitted to smoke their own marijuana. However, this particular establishment failed to comply with crucial regulations. It was discovered
that the club did not possess a municipal operating license in Benidorm and was absent from the associations register of the Valencia region.
Law enforcement authorities grew suspicious when they noticed multiple customers entering and exiting the premises in a hurried manner, seemingly without any intention to consume the substances they had acquired. Acting swiftly, the police intercepted these individuals and found them to be foreign tourists who openly admitted to purchasing marijuana or hashish at the club.
Upon obtaining a court order, the authorities conducted a raid on the undisclosed address associated with the cannabis
club. The operation aimed to make arrests and con scate items related to the illegal activities. In addition to the narcotics and cash previously mentioned, a small quantity of cocaine was also discovered and seized during the raid.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to gather additional evidence and gather testimony from those involved. The arrested individuals, aged between 20 and 28, are currently in police custody, awaiting formal charges. The closure of this unlicensed cannabis club serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to Spanish laws and regulations surrounding the operation of such establishments.

Free courses offered by CdT in Torrevieja
You can now enroll in one of the professional certi cate courses that begin in September
These are the free courses o ered by the CdT in Torrevieja, which is part of the Network of Tourism Centers of the Valencian Community (CdT) whose main purpose is to provide complete training for present and future professionals, since tourism is the sector that contributes the most wealth to the Spanish economy. In the case of the Valencian Community, that importance is even greater if possible. However, at the same time it is a labor market in need of quali ed personnel.
The CdT Network o ers, on the one hand, Continuous Training for di erent active professional pro les in the sector with the aim of improving their professional quali cation through practical short-term recycling courses that are also compatible with professional hours. On the other hand, Occupational Training is o ered for the group of unemployed people, without knowledge of the tourism sector, who intend to work in any of its areas with a more basic
quali cation. In this case they are longer courses, with theoretical teaching and also real practices.
All these courses are taught by expert professionals who know, in detail, the needs of the tourism sector in the Valencian Community. And also, in certain courses, at the end of the same,

the student body that accredits the demanded requirements will receive a certi cate of professionalism. This certi cate is o cial and is valid throughout Spain.
And nally, the Online Training courses o ered allow those people or professionals who so wish to access training without schedules, exible and that does not require travel. In this type of course, students can receive individualized training since they will have a teacher who
The Torrevieja Tourism Center , located on Crta Crevillente (CV90), esq. C/Los Lirios and inaugurated in 2005, it has been training great professionals in the tourism sector for almost two decades. It was created with the purpose of promoting specialized training in this sector so that the province consolidates its position as a benchmark in Spanish and international gastronomy. In this way, it contributes to promoting the quali cation of hotel and tourism professionals and to helping labor retraining and promoting the quality of the tourist service.
The Center provides eminently practical training, in state-ofthe-art facilities, so that students quickly develop the skills and abilities necessary for their incorporation into the labor market, also counting among its Advisory Council with great professionals linked to the tourism sector with the aim of bringing training closer to to the needs of the company.
Climate activists from Extinction Rebellion have made a bold statement by plugging the holes on 10 golf courses across Spain. Their action was in protest against the excessive water usage associated with the sport, particularly in the midst of a severe drought that Europe is currently experiencing.
Under the cover of darkness, the activists carried out the act of lling in the holes in various locations including Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, the Basque Country, Navarra, and the Balearic Island of Ibiza.
In a statement, the group declared: “Golf has no place in a world without water.” The group, known for its directaction approach to raising awareness about environmental issues, employed their signature disruptive tactics to attract attention. Some activists blocked the holes with cement and left banners proclaiming, “Alert: drought! Golf closed for climate justice,” while others lled the holes with seedlings.
The group emphasised the staggering water consumption of golf courses, stating that a single hole can consume over 100,000 litres of water daily to maintain the lush green surroundings. Citing gures from Spanish NGO Ecologists In Action, Extinction Rebellion
revealed that in Spain alone, 437 golf courses are irrigated each day. This level of consumption surpasses the combined populations of Madrid and Barcelona, despite the fact that only 0.6 percent of the population actively participates in golf.
Extinction Rebellion criticised the irresponsibility and cynicism associated with allowing such an elitist pastime to continue while Spain su ers from drought and rural communities face devastating losses in agricultural production due to water scarcity.
Experts have warned that parts of Spain are currently experiencing the driest conditions in a millennium. This prolonged drought has resulted in reservoirs depleting to half their normal capacity, threatening Spain’s status as the world’s leading exporter
of olive oil and a signi cant source of Europe’s fruits and vegetables. Furthermore, the summer of 2022 broke records as the hottest in Europe’s history, and the European Drought Observatory recently reported that 60 percent of Spain’s territory was on red alert due to the lack of rain.
The golf course protest in Spain follows similar actions taken in recent weeks in Malaga, Seville, Almeria, and Cordoba. The group emphasised that these actions are part of a broader international campaign targeting the wealthiest 1 percent of the population through their extravagant leisure activities, including golf, private jets, and luxury cars. The group aims to highlight the fact that such indulgences by the rich waste essential resources that society cannot a ord.

We wanted to share some information from the newest member of our team, Senior Partner, Fiona Keogh.
What’s your background?
I joined the nancial services industry in 1991. My mother ran a nancial planning rm and employed me straight from university with a degree in European Studies. Not the most useful job to practice my German but the Economics modules helped with investments and pensions.
That started a long enjoyable career as nancial adviser, corporate pension manager, nancial coach and now helping people with their nances in Spain since 2019.
Why Seagate?
I wanted the opportunity to merge my
dual quali cations in Finance - CII Chartered Financial Planner and Coaching – coach quali cation with The Institute of Customer Service. The combination makes the nancial planning process more empowering for the client. Money has a big impact on people’s lives. It is great to fully understand a client’s motivation and goals so I can intertwine this with their individual nancial plan.
I felt Seagate, a local, friendly team gave me the perfect platform for me to do this.
Financial advice should not be a tick box approach and I prefer to start with a fresh piece of paper rather than a form.
I believe a nancial planner should be part coach, part educator and part adviser.
What’s your claim to fame?
My rst job at 15 was delivering fresh chickens.
One of the customers was Benny from the TV show ‘Crossroads’ – Paul Henry.
What are your plans?
Sustainable business and ideas are important to me. I would rather deal with a local client base on a personal level. I am keen to work with clients in Murcia and the border of Almeria.
I look forward to building long-term relationships with clients and contributing to the communities in these areas. I enjoy helping younger people learn about personal nance with books and talks.

Nine people are tried for drug sales in Orihuela
This Thursday, July 13, in section 7 of the National Court based in Elche, nine people accused of being part of an organisation dedicated to selling drugs, especially cocaine and heroin, in the Orihuela area are on trial.
The Prosecutor’s O ce maintains that the defendants were part of a criminal group in which part of the members were in charge of buying the drug, generally in Cartagena, others
transported it hidden inside their bodies, others stored it and prepared it for sale, while that the rest of the defendants were those who sold it at retail.
In the house searches carried out in 2013 in the homes of the defendants, the agents located more than a kilogram of heroin, various amounts of cocaine and 124 marijuana plants, among other seizures. In one of the houses where two
of the defendants resided, they located a pistol for which they did not have a license.
The public prosecution requests for each of the defendants a prison sentence of ve years and nine months for a crime against public health and another for belonging to a criminal group. For two of the defendants, he also requests two years in prison for a crime of illegal possession of weapons.

GBP
GBP / EUR UPDATE
The recent jump in UK bond yields, fuelled by expectations that the BoE will be forced to raise rates to an even higher level to combat persistent in ation, has resulted in the UK being forced to pay a yield of almost 5.7% for £4bn of gilts earlier in the week. That represents the highest level for 2-year UK debt since the DMO (debt management o ce) was established back on the 1st of April in 1998, although the DMO are no fools. In fact, the yield was the highest paid for any gilt since 2007. The yield on the UK 10-year gilt hit a whopping 4.7% just yesterday (Thursday). The surge in borrowing costs is making an ever-increasing dent into the government’s spending capacity, a position which will only deteriorate as the BoE raise rates further. Not great news for the Tories, as we edge closer to an election.
Talking of BoE rate hikes, market-implied expectations for further hikes have understandably been increasing at a rapid pace of late, with markets now expecting the BoE to have to raise UK rates from the current level of 5%, to as high as 6.5% by the end of Q1 next year, with some calling for rates to go even higher, maybe even to as high as 7%. Gulp. That would represent the highest level for UK rates for 25 years. In an interview with the BBC this week, BoE governor Andrew Bailey suggested that whilst he understood the di culties that people faced, ‘this is how we have to get in ation down.’ Comments such as that are clearly helping to feed those increased market-implied rate hike expectations. In other news this week, leading UK banks have now been summoned to a meeting with the FCA to explain why the average savings rate o ered is still below 2.5%.
Having initially declined on the prospects of higher rates increasing the chances of a UK recession, the pound has since stabilised and has almost regained all of its losses since the last BoE meeting. Indeed, GBP/ USD moved to as high as 1.2780 at one point yesterday, which is getting remarkably close to the recent cycle high at just over 1.2800. Furthermore, GBP/EUR has
now moved back over 1.1700, highlighting a broadly stronger pound. For now, it seems as though the potential for higher rates is winning the battle against recessionary fears in the UK driving a weaker pound, but sterling bulls will still need to move forward with much caution, given those ever-increasing risks of a recession.
EURO
The single currency has been edging lower over the past three weeks, with EUR/USD moving from a high of just over 1.1000, to around 1.0830, before a late bounce yesterday afternoon. That move can be partly explained by the weaker economic output among the region, which itself is raising increased concerns over the capacity for the ECB to continue to hike Euro area rates much beyond this month’s expected 25bps move. This is especially so, when you consider that both Germany and the region as a whole are teetering on a recession. The ECB continue to talk about higher rates, given persistent in ation, but those decisions are becoming more di cult to explain away.
That weak backdrop has continued throughout this week, with further softness emerging among the latest PMI data. Monday’s manufacturing PMIs saw German data slip to 40.6 during June, as demand evaporated. Anything below 50 is considered contracting for an economy, so a 40 reading is particularly weak-looking.
The Regional data was only moderately better at 43.4. Whilst mostly above the 50 threshold, Services PMIs also mainly missed against expectations. The latest Retail Sales data also con rmed a lacklustre consumer, atlining over the past month across the region, having been expected to have rebounded over the period. On the positive side, German Factory Orders declined at a slightly slower pace over the past month. Looking ahead, next week sees updates on in ation for both Germany and Spain. Back to the single currency, and the Euro currently seems to be losing out on future interest rate hike expectations, with both the Fed and BoE currently leading the charge.

University Hospital of Torrevieja joins network of International Vaccination Centres
Ministry of Health has authorised the University Hospital of Torrevieja to join the network of international vaccination centres. Until now, patients requiring this service had to travel to the nearest centres in Orihuela or Elche. Undoubtedly, this is a new and highly demanded service that will avoid unnecessary travel for patients and their families in the department.
The International Vaccination Centre of the University Hospital of Torrevieja will be open every Thursday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, by appointment by telephone. Appointments can be made by telephone on 965 695 449, Monday to Friday, from 11:00 to 13:00 hours.
The functions to be carried out at this centre include vaccinations and other preventive measures in the international tra c of people and the issuing of certi cates corresponding to the vaccinations. The service provided by the international vaccination centre will be carried out by the sta of the Preventive Medicine Service, which includes this activity in its portfolio of services and includes a medical consultation and a nursing consultation.
The medical consultation will include a personal medical history and previous vaccinations, a complete assessment of the health risks involved in the trip, compulsory and recommended vaccinations, as well as preventive regimens or anti-malaria prophylaxis in relation to the type of trip. The nursing consultation includes the administration of the vaccinations prescribed by the doctor, relevant health advice and the issuing of the International Vaccination Certi cate.
José Cano, manager of the Department of Health of Torrevieja, has valued highly positive the new addition of this service especially at a time when “the increase in demand for consultations for the care of international travelers has been increasing in recent years. Thus, “our Preventive Medicine Service will be responsible for ensuring
the proper development of this new service that will facilitate the mobility of travellers with all the guarantees”.
Ongoing reporting to WHO
Given the obligation to report to the WHO, several procedures will be carried out in the centres in order to meet certain requirements. On the one hand, the recognition of the signature. The Ministry of Health will recognise the signature of at least two health professionals from each vaccination centre. Signature recognition will be necessary for the issuance of the International Certi cate of Vaccination. Health will also provide the centres with the corresponding o cial seal model, in addition to supplying them with o cial publications or informative material.
On the other hand, the Ministry will o er the sta of the international vaccination centres the training activities organised by the Directorate General of Public Health on the prevention of travellers’ pathologies, with the aim of updating knowledge and establishing the harmonisation of the necessary and coherent operational systems in the international context.
My wife and I divorced 7 years ago after I had an affair. I admit it was all my fault, and my wife was very hurt at the time. We have a daughter who is now 10. We both agreed at the time to separate because she could not get over my cheating. It was fairly amicable and I have regular access to my daughter. Since then, my ex has had relationships that have meant nothing to me. But now she has met someone who is older, handsome, very successful and phenomenally
wealthy and I find myself feeling very envious and resentful. I continue to struggle financially, and she falls on her feet. She is now facing a life of no hardship whatsoever, while I will have to continue working. My daughter is also changed; she is being spoiled by her step-father to be, whilst I cannot give her the life she has become accustomed to. I understand how hard this must be for you, however you walked away from the marriage several years ago, so you can’t now be regretting it just
because your ex-wife has found someone whom you envy. You had an affair and you admit it hurt her greatly at the time. You admit you wouldn’t be feeling the same if this man was not rich and successful, or you would be getting on with your life. And, everyone has to work. Put all your energy into your relationship with your daughter; you may not be able to give her the same life but that’s just the way the cookie has crumbled, so I can only suggest making the best of it. Give your daughter your time instead of trying to match the wealth provided by her step-father to be.

Looking back to our last milestone, our 500th edition, which we celebrated at Benidorm Palace, who would have imagined how much the world would change between then and now. The global pandemic changed lives and business forever.

Coming out the other side of lockdown, like many businesses, we struggled with the economic downturn caused by the pandemic. It has changed the shape of our business permanently and again like many, we have had to revise our business model and evolve into a ‘new normal’.
We continue community local fundraising awareness that are have no liaise with Town Halls and facilitate our eclectic multicultural

Sting’s daughter Fuschia Sumner is engaged to beau Maximilian Wright and gushes she’s ‘super in love’ - days after sibling Eliot splits with model Frankie Herbert
Sting’s daughter Fuschia Sumner has revealed she’s engaged to partner Maximilian Wright.
Just days after the rocker’s other child Eliot Sumner split up with society model Frankie Herbert, there comes some cheering news for The Police star’s family.
Daily Mail’s Richard Eden reports that the 41-year-old actress - whom Sting shares with ex Frances Tomelty, 74 - is set to walk down the aisle with her beau.
Top BBC star is taken o air after ‘paying teenager £35,000 for sexual pictures’
The well-known presenter is said to have asked the teenager for ‘performances’
A top BBC star has reportedly been taken o air pending an investigation after claims emerged that he paid a vulnerable teenager more than £35,000 for sexual images.
The well-known presenter allegedly began paying the teenager when they were 17, and sent them the money which they used to fund a crack cocaine addiction.
The child’s mother, who has made the shocking allegations, told the Sun she feels ‘sick’ whenever she sees the man on TV.
The star was said to have requested ‘performances’ from the individual, who told their mother they would then ‘get their bits out’.
The family made a formal complaint to the BBC in May, begging the corporation to stop the behaviour towards their child, now 20.
It is claimed he sent hundreds or even thousands of pounds at once, once depositing a sum of £5,000 in the teenager’s bank account.
The stricken mother said: ‘Whenever I see him on telly, I feel sick.
‘I blame this BBC man for destroying my child’s life —
taking my child’s innocence and handing over the money for crack cocaine that could kill my child.’
She continued: ‘The money had been in exchange for sexually explicit photographs of my child.’
The star, said to be known to millions, allegedly requested ‘performances’ from the teenager, who used the cash to fund their spiralling drug habit.
The explicit messages are said to have started in 2020. The family said the star did not hide his identity and even sent photographs to the teen while he was at work.
The mother told the Sun their child went from a ‘happy-golucky youngster to a ghost-like crack addict’ in just three years.
It is claimed that even after the family complained, the star continued to send money and remained on air.
A BBC spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘We treat any allegations very seriously and we have processes in place to proactively deal with them.
‘As part of that, if we receive information that requires further investigation or examination, we will take steps to do this.
‘That includes actively attempting to speak to those who have contacted us in order to seek further detail and understanding of the situation.
‘If, at any point, new information comes to light or is provided — including via newspapers — this will be acted upon appropriately, in line with internal processes.’
Fiona Phillips insists she’s ‘trying to keep smiling’ after her heartbreaking Alzheimer’s diagnosis as she implores medics to nd a cure to stop the disease ‘massacring families like mine’
Fiona Phillips insists she’s trying to keep smiling after speaking out publicly about her devastating Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
On Tuesday, television presenter Fiona, 62, revealed she and her husband were left in ‘total shock’ when the doctors diagnosed her with Alzheimer’s after having feared her brain fog symptoms were a sign of
menopause.
She originally saw the onset of ‘crippling anxiety’, ‘confusion’ and ‘brain fog’ at the end of 2021. Due to the nature of her symptoms, she saw a menopause specialist and underwent hormone replacement therapy.
Some of her symptoms improved, but the brain fog remained. She was examined by other specialists, spent months completing cognitive tests and ultimately received her dreaded diagnosis last year which was con rmed by a spinal tap test.
Now, insisting she is trying to push through and hold on to hope there will be a cure, she told the Mirror: ‘I am trying to keep smiling and getting on with things but it is a bloody horrible disease.

The most common diseases of summer and how to avoid them
The most frequent pathologies for which patients go to the emergency room during the holidays are usually acute-onset external otitis and gastrointestinal problems as the main cause of admission, as stated by Dr. Juan Costell, head of the emergency department of the Quirónsalud Torrevieja hospital.
As for otitis, Dr. Costell explains that “otalgia with a history of recent bathing is usually the reason that causes greater care consultation. They are usually secondary external otitis by immersion in swimming pools or in the sea, as is usual at this time of year.” This type of ear infection, caused by the action of moisture, produces an alteration in the epithelium of the external auditory canal, which in turn causes the germs that are usually in the duct to penetrate, causing the infection.
As for its symptoms, the doctor reports that “it manifests as a strong pain in the area and, if the disease progresses, suppuration and narrowness of the ear canal occurs along with a temporary hearing loss since the in ammation does not let the air through”,
Dr. Costell recommends that, after three or four days, after the visit to the emergency room and treatment with topical antibiotic therapy, the patient should visit the otolaryngrine since this pathology can give many problems a posteriori and should be controlled.
In relation to gastrointestinal problems, Dr. Costell points out that, although the care demand is lower than in cases of otitis, the severity of the pathology may even require the patient’s admission. “Acute gastroenteritis is usually accompanied by vomiting, increased number of bowel movements, diarrhoea, high fever and oral intolerance. Most of these problems in summer are due to food poisoning, the main danger being severe dehydration, especially in children and the elderly.”
To prevent a picture of gastrointestinal problems in summer, hand hygiene is essential before preparing food and consuming, preferably, freshly prepared or refrigerated food, since the heat can alter its state.
Summer pathologies, what they are and how to avoid them
Although these pathologies are present all year round, as stated by Dr. José Luis Lasaga, head of emergencies at Quirónsalud Alicante, “it is in summer and during the holidays when they manifest themselves in a more recurrent way”. To know what they are and how we can avoid the most common summer diseases, Dr. Lasaga indicates to pay attention to the following points:
• Dermatological infections and other of these the most frequent are fungal infections and especially the socalled athlete’s foot, which occurs
after stepping on wet ground and previously infected by other people. “To prevent it,” says Dr. Lasaga, “it is important to use ip ops both in swimming pools and showers and dry our feet very well. In case of infection, it will be necessary to use a topical antifungal treatment”
• Diseases related to heat and prolonged exposure to high temperatures without adequate ventilation or hydration. “Its symptoms can range from muscle cramps, dizziness, loss of consciousness, to hyperthermia, hypotension, dehydration and death,” explains the specialist of Quirónsalud Torrevieja. The doctor advises avoiding peak hours of sun,
proper hydration and keeping the body cool.
• Sexually transmitted diseases by increasing the possibility of isolated sexual contact without the use of adequate protective measures. To avoid them, Dr. Lasaga advises the use of condoms to minimise the risk of contracting these diseases. “If this happens, go to your doctor to perform the appropriate complementary tests and establish the appropriate treatment,” says the specialist.
• Bites of insects and other animals such as sea urchins, jelly sh, etc. In most cases they cause mild symptoms that are usually controlled with physical and antiin ammatory measures, “although
we must not forget that we must consult with your doctor or go to the emergency services without having symptoms such as dizziness, loss of consciousness, uncontrolled fever, dyspnoea or chest pain”, says Lasaga.
Finally, to spend a good summer without scares the specialists of Quirónsalud Torrevieja and Alicante recommend drinking plenty of uids, avoiding the hours of increased sun exposure, use of adequate sunscreens, a balanced diet, washing hands frequently, and if we travel do not forget the medication if you need it and health reports, and in case of doubt consult with our usual doctors or go to the emergency services.

Hacienda Riquelme impresses golf experts
Hacienda Riquelme recently hosted a by invite only golf day to highlight the perfect condition of the award-winning course. Director of Golf, Chris Ahern, accompanied 10 guests from the local gol ng community.
One of the lucky guests was John Batterby from Stary Sod Green fees who said the course was immaculate.
John Said: “The management team and green keepers at Hacienda Riquelme have obviously been hard at work. This course is now stunning and plays like a dream. They have improved the course almost beyond recognition and its now a must play course for local golf societies and for those enjoying gol ng holidays.”
Built to championship standards the 18-hole, par 72, 6,991-yard (6,356 metre) Nicklaus Design course features four sets of tees per hole, presenting challenges to all levels of golfer. It has a range of elevations and uses the natural contours of the land to provide an exceptional gol ng experience.
The Murcia-located golf course boasts a range of facilities in addition to the 18-hole course. These include El Cason Restaurant and bar. Golf Pro Shop and a supermarket. There is a Golf Academy o ering individual and group golf lessons and Hacienda Riquelme Golf boasts some of the best practice facilities on the GNK Golf Circuit, all maintained to golf course standards. These include: fulllength driving range with 20 natural turf practice tees, extra-large putting green with multiple tiers to emulate the course’s greens, double-size steep sided greenside bunker facing o to the extensive chipping green, multitiered approach fairway with semirough areas facing on to the chipping green, fairway bunker facing o to the driving range, designed for practicing long-range bunker shots.
Following the round of golf, guest were treated to a tasty tapas lunch in the late 19th-century colonial style Hacienda club house.
Almoradi receives 1.8 million euros of European funds for the complete refurbishment of the Venancio Costa pavilion
The Venancio Costa Pavilion has been in service for more than 60 years, being one of the rst sports facilities in Almoradí.
What began as an indoor court outside the town centre, in the middle of the orchard, was gradually transformed into a sports complex which, with the growth of Almoradí, became part of the city centre.
Almoradí has an index of federated sport that places it among the most outstanding in the Valencian Community, with intensive use of its available facilities.
In this way, with the action to be undertaken with the grant received from European Funds and speci cally from the Plan de Impulso para la Rehabilitación de Edi cios Públicos (PIREP), the pavilion is going to become a benchmark, as rehabilitation addresses the improvement of ENERGY EFFICIENCY at three levels:
It is proposed the reduction of energy demand through thermal improvement, providing it with the necessary
insulation in roofs and enclosures, and solar control with the integration of bioclimatic measures.
In addition, action is taken on energy consumption by installing high-e ciency systems operated with intelligent systems that will guarantee the thermal comfort of users.
On the third level, the generation of energy from renewable sources
(photovoltaic and aerothermal) will make this building not only self-su cient but also in solidarity with the rest of the surrounding public consumption.
The project envisages providing the building with total ACCESSIBILITY, installing a lift that will give access to the upper level and a walkway that will connect the two multi-purpose rooms to be created in the spaces recovered on
that level.
Finally, all the actions will be aimed at the CONSERVATION OF THE BUILDING, such as the repair and replacement of the block masonry in poor condition, as well as the structural elements damaged by the e ect of leaks, the rehabilitation of the electrical installation, the water supply, as well as the sewage and rainwater networks.
Abbey Anglers
On the 4th of July we shed the 6th round of the Summer Series and the 4th round of the Presidents cup at the El Bosquet complex near to Crevillent. 20 anglers took part, shed over 4 sections and the match was shed in extremely hot sunny conditions.
Winner on the day from the unfancied peg 5 was Trevor Howard. Trevor shed the pole down the middle or across with maggot and weighed 28.52kg.
In second place was myself Ian Brown. I was drawn on the ever consistent peg 1, but unlike other days on this peg it was virtually impossible to catch anything across and I caught most of my sh down
the middle with maggots shed over micros. Eventually I managed to weigh 26.10kg mainly of carp but also a decent barbel and a completely white Koi carp.
In third place was Tony Felstead. Tony shed maggot on the pole, but either down the middle or down the edge, for 19.40kg of carp.
The other two sections were won by Russell Davidson with 17.36kg on peg 18 and Bill Cannon with 14.72kg from peg 34 who unlike all the rest used the method feeder.
Further details re everything shing can be found on our website, www. abbeyangling.es
