Orihuela and Pilar join forces to request more Guardia Civil

In a joint effort to address the growing security concerns in Orihuela and Pilar de la Horadada, mayors Pepe Vegara, of

Orihuela, and José María Pérez of Pilar de la Horadada, both from the Popular Party (PP), called a meeting with Citizen

meetings in each town, scheduled to take place in the coming weeks. The call for increased state police presence in the southern coastal region comes in response to mounting complaints from residents in various urbanisations regarding a surge in robberies. The situation is particularly severe in Pinar de Campoverde, Pilar de la Horadada, where concerned residents have taken to organising street patrols due to an alarming increase in assaults and attempted robberies over the past two months. Residents of Pinar de Campoverde, a residential complex housing around 5,000 registered residents, have formed organised surveillance groups using messaging platforms to alert one another of potential threats. They have even created a map identifying areas most affected by over twenty incidents of robbery or attempted burglary. Despite the commendable efforts of the Civil Guard from the Torre de la Horadada barracks, which has collaborated with local police, a group of assailants continues to find refuge in homes within Pinar de Campoverde. Frustrated and fearful, residents have taken matters into their own hands, patrolling the streets armed with baseball bats and golf clubs.

Security councillors Mónica Pastor and María del Mar Sáez. The purpose of the meeting was to formulate a formal request for reinforcements at the Torre de la Horadada Civil Guard barracks, responsible for covering both municipal areas. The municipalities share a common stance on the urgent need for the Government Subdelegation, led by Juan Antonio Nieves, to bolster the staffing levels of officers serving in the coastal region, particularly during the summer months when the population swells. The plea for reinforcements will be communicated through local safety

Insufficient policing Mayor José María Pérez of Pilar de la Horadada expressed gratitude for the Civil Guard’s dedication to serving the population but voiced concerns over the insufficient number of officers. Mayor Pepe Vegara of Orihuela echoed these sentiments, emphasising the critical need for an expanded workforce to enhance security, branding the municipality as a safe tourist destination. In addition to the joint efforts focused on Torre de la Horadada, Orihuela City Council, through the Citizen Security area, plans to extend these demands to other Civil Guard posts covering Orihuela Costa and several districts, including Torremendo, Virgen del Camino, La Murada, San Bartolomé, Barbarroja, and the Entrenaranjos urbanisation. The goal is to ensure comprehensive coverage and address security challenges across the broader region.

Orihuela mayor explores €1.37 Million loan to complete footbridge over AP7 Orihuela’s Mayor, Pepe Vegara, is considering a €1.37 million bank loan as a potential solution to the prolonged battle for a much-needed pedestrian bridge over the AP7 in Orihuela Costa. The move comes after years of persistent campaigning by residents in Lomas de Cabo Roig, who have faced safety concerns and inconveniences due to the lack of a dedicated walkway. The existing bridge, inaugurated in 2008, serves as the sole pedestrian route on the CV941 from Lomas de Cabo Roig to the beaches, health centre, and shops at Aquamarina. The current structure features a small hard shoulder, forcing pedestrians and cyclists to share space with passing cars, leading to safety issues. Residents, frustrated with the situation, have been actively protesting over the years, with a notable march involving approximately 600 residents taking place across the bridge in March 2018. The ongoing dispute between Orihuela council and the Urbana San Miguel company revolves around a

20-year-old €1.2 million bond deposited by the constructor. Legal proceedings have been underway for an extended period as the council seeks to recover the bond. The initial bridge design included a pavement, but financial challenges faced by Urbana San Miguel in the late 2000s resulted in the omission of this crucial element. Ten years after the bridge’s opening, Orihuela council attempted to compel Urbana San Miguel to construct a separate walkway. In 2021, the council announced plans to seize the €1.2 million bond to fund the bridge project. However, CaixaBank resisted handing over the funds, leading to a protracted legal battle that continues to this day. Mayor Vegara’s consideration of a bank

loan represents a potential breakthrough in the efforts to address the longstanding bridge impasse. While the proposal is in the early stages, Vegara has previously expressed his commitment to resolving the issue, highlighting it as a priority for Orihuela Costa since assuming office last year. The potential loan could provide the necessary funds to finally construct a safer and more accessible pedestrian bridge for the community.

Spread the word! More Brits in Spain can now vote in the UK British citizens living abroad are now eligible to register to vote in UK general elections, regardless of how long they’ve been living outside the UK. A new law has removed the previous 15-year time limit. Supporting the awareness raising campaign of the UK’s Electoral Commission, the British Embassy in Madrid is calling on British residents living in Spain to check if they are eligible. The Commission is the independent and impartial organisation that oversees

elections in the UK. Those who have previously lived in or been registered to vote in the UK now have the right to vote in UK Parliament elections. They can register online at www.gov.uk/registertovote and will need to confirm their personal information every three years. Anyone on a UK electoral register is also considered a permissible donor to UK political parties and campaigners. British Ambassador to Spain, Hugh

Elliott said: “This law means that more British citizens living in Spain will now be eligible to vote in UK Parliamentary elections, which is good news. We’re asking the British community here to help us spread the word, because it’s important that eligible people are made aware of the changes so that they can register and cast a ballot when the time comes.” It only takes five minutes to register and voting can be done by post or by proxy.

Applicants will need to provide details of the address and time they were last registered or resident. Local authorities must be able to verify an applicant’s identity and past connection to the area. More information is available on the Electoral Commission’s website and voters living overseas can find contact details for the relevant local council by entering the postcode of the last place they lived in the UK, using the Commission’s postcode lookup tool.

Calls to relocate motorhomes Gang arrested for robberies from Zenia Boulevard in Torrevieja and Pilar In a bid to alleviate the rising congestion at Zenia Boulevard shopping centre car park, the Neighbourhood Association of Cabo Roig and Lomas (AVCRL) is urging the Orihuela Council to establish a dedicated motorhome park in the area. The AVCRL reports a surge in the number of homeowners resorting to the Zenia Boulevard car park for motorhome parking, with instances where more than 20 motorhomes occupy the space. Lamenting the lack of basic utility services for these residents, the association emphasises the pressing need for a designated area on the coast. The Neighbourhood Association has formally voiced its concerns to the Orihuela Council’s Department of Citizen Security, proposing the creation of a special zone

equipped with essential facilities. In their letter, the AVCRL highlights that neighbouring municipalities have successfully implemented motorhome parks catering for shortterm stays, complete with amenities such as electricity, water, toilets, and showers. The initiative aligns with the electoral promises of the Partido Popular administration, which, in collaboration with Vox, assumed control of the Orihuela Council last year. The administration had included the establishment of a motorhome park in its election manifesto. A spokesperson for AVCRL, expressed the urgency of the situation, revealing that the residents’ group initially made the request in December 2022.

“More than a year has passed since our initial request, and we believe that it is increasingly necessary to address this action, since, in addition to benefiting its users, it would generate income for the Orihuela Council.” As the debate unfolds, Orihuela residents eagerly await the council’s response to the plea for a dedicated motorhome park, hoping to find a viable solution to the current overcrowding dilemma at Zenia Boulevard.

Orihuela repairs charging points The Departments of Environment and Infrastructure, headed by Noelia Grao and Víctor Valverde respectively, have repaired and put into operation 16 of the 18 charging points installed across the municipality of Orihuela. Since mid-2022, more than half were out of service for

technical and certification reasons, which caused real problems for electric vehicle users. The charging stations are located in different strategic places both in the centre, on the coast and in the districts. The Department of the Environment, in collaboration with the energy services of the

Department of Infrastructure, has taken the necessary steps to ensure that they are all operational. Today there are 16 points that are operational, the other two, one of which was unusable due to a traffic accident and another is waiting to be fixed by the technical service in the coming weeks.

The Civil Guard has dismantled a travelling criminal group made up of 4 men of Polish origin who travelled from their country of origin to different parts of Spain with the sole purpose of committing home robberies. The gang had prior information from local collaborators about the homes and focused on grabbing jewellery and cash. Two of these homes were located in two municipalities in the region, Pilar de la Horadada and Torrevieja, and the gang stole more than 30,000 euros. After the robberies were committed, the thieves returned to their country by air carrying the stolen loot in their luggage. Now under arrest, provisional detention without bail has been declared. The operation began in May 2023 when the analysis of the evidence collected in a forced entry robbery at a home in the town of Benahavís, Málaga allowed the officers to identify the four men as they believed committed the crime. After spending several days in the province of Malaga, the individuals returned to Poland on a flight that they had not previously booked. Officers soon linked the crime to another robbery in another home that occurred days before in the town of Casares, Málaga,

where they stole jewellery and cash worth 600,000 euros. The thieves knew the movements of the homeowners and that there were valuable item in the property. They had also researched the security measures in the home to be targeted. In September, investigators arrested two individuals as alleged perpetrators of the five robberies, two in homes, two vehicle thefts and one robbery inside a home under construction. They were able to recover all the items stolen, which exceeded 47,000 euros. These arrests could have been fundamental in the decision to change the area where the gang would commit their next crimes, since officers learned that the four members of the Polish group travelled by plane to Alicante on 21st September to commit their

next robbery. The agents intensified efforts to try to locate the thieves and find out the date of the return flight. The four men were arrested at the boarding gate of Alicante airport where they were waiting to take the flight back to Poland. In their hand luggage, the police discovered 52 pieces of jewellery and 4,480 euros in cash. Part of it came from separate robberies that were committed days before in homes located in Pilar de la Horadada and Torrevieja, and whose value exceeded €30,000. One of the Polish detainees was subject to a European Arrest and Surrender Order (OEDE) from the Netherlands for 9 crimes of burglary in homes, which shows that this criminal group used roaming to commit crimes across Europe

Man sentenced to 3 years for repeated attacks on girlfriend A 35-year-old man has been sentenced to sentences totaling three years, nine months and one day in prison for repeatedly attacking his romantic partner, a minor under the guardianship of the Generalitat and an escapee from a center, in the municipalities of the Vega Baja region in Torrevieja and Callosa de Segura where they shared a home. The events that are the subject of the process took place in the period of just over three months in which both maintained a romantic relationship, between July and November 2019, according to the ruling handed down by the Court of Alicante. The court considers it proven that, practically from the beginning of the relationship, the accused exercised physical abuse on the victim on a regular basis. Along these lines, the ruling refers to three specific dates on which different attacks occurred. The defendant availed himself of his right not to testify during the trial. In the first of them, recorded on July 26, the defendant

woke up the minor, shook her, grabbed her by the hair and locked her in a room. When she tried to run away from him, he grabbed her hair again and slapped her. The second case of assault occurred on September 16 in which the defendant hit and kicked the victim, also at the home where they both lived at the time in Torrevieja. The last of the attacks occurred on November 5 in another home, located in Callosa de Segura, where the accused also punched him several times. The defendant availed himself of his right not to testify during the trial on December 26. And

neither did the victim, whose whereabouts were unknown. However, at her hearing the statement offered by her before the Court of Violence against Women of Orihuela was reproduced, which made it possible to know her version of the events. The court grants credibility to the victim’s story, after also taking into account the testimony of the owner of a game room where she went to take refuge after suffering one of the attacks, as well as the statement of the Civil Guard agents who They attended to her.

Spanish tennis champion Politician shooting investigated as terrorist attack Arantxa Sánchez Vicario convicted of fraud Former world-number-one tennis player Arantxa Sánchez Vicario and her ex-husband, Josep Santacana, have been found guilty of fraud by a Spanish court. The verdict has resulted in a prison sentence for both individuals. The Barcelona-based court revealed that the tennis icon, a Wimbledon finalist and winner of 14 Grand Slam titles, and her former husband had engaged in fraudulent activities to conceal assets, all in an attempt to evade a substantial €6 million debt owed to Banque de Luxembourg. However, despite the conviction, Sánchez Vicario has managed to evade immediate incarceration, as the court granted leniency to the former tennis star, considering her a firsttime offender. However, this reprieve is contingent on her maintaining a clean record for the next two years and fulfilling the imposed fine. Notably, last year, Sánchez Vicario had cooperated with prosecutors, admitting to the charges in exchange for a reduced sentence. In contrast, her ex-husband, Santacana, who was blamed by Sánchez Vicario for orchestrating the fraudulent scheme, was handed a more severe punishment - a 3-year and 3-month prison sentence.

The Spanish National Court is delving into the shooting of Alejo Vidal-Quadras, a former member of the European Parliament and co-founder of the farright Vox party, treating the incident as a terrorist attack. The politician has pointed fingers at the Tehran regime, accusing them of “planning and executing” the shooting. Colombian authorities have apprehended Greg Oliver Higuera Marcano, a Venezuelan national and the alleged mastermind behind the attack on Vidal-Quadras. Marcano had sought refuge in his home country upon learning that Spanish authorities were on the lookout for him. However, his attempt to enter Colombia using a passport bearing the same name led to his arrest, as immigration police discovered a red alert notice issued by

During the trial conducted last year, the former tennis champion asserted that she had entrusted her thenhusband with managing her finances and claimed ignorance of any illicit tampering with family assets. The couple finalised their divorce in 2019. Both Sánchez Vicario and Santacana are now obligated to compensate Banque de Luxembourg with a total payment of €6.6 million, encompassing the initial unpaid debt along with accrued interest. At 52 years old, Sánchez Vicario, who once dominated the tennis world in both singles and doubles, faces a tarnished reputation following this legal setback. Her remarkable career included victories at the French Open in 1989, 1994, and 1998, as well as the US Open in 1994.

Interpol for terrorism offences. Spanish and Colombian authorities are now collaborating to ensure Marcano faces justice. Meanwhile, three other individuals believed to be involved in the attack, who had fled to southern Spain, have already been apprehended. A third accomplice, identified as Mehrez Ayari, a French citizen of Tunisian origin and the suspected gunman, remains at large. Reports from the Spanish media indicate that Marcano, the recently arrested suspect, played a logistical role in the plot. Allegedly, he persuaded Ayari, the Tunisian hitman, to carry out the attack. The two reportedly met while serving sentences in an Italian prison. Vidal-Quadras, who survived the attack and was discharged from the hospital 15 days later, penned a letter to the Iranian

dissident group he collaborates with, squarely blaming the Tehran regime for orchestrating the assault. The Friends of Free Iran group read out the document in the European Parliament. Simultaneously, Vidal-Quadras criticised the European Union’s current policy towards the Islamic Republic, stating, “For decades, the West has tried to appease, negotiate, dialogue, and make concessions. We now have all the evidence that this approach has not worked and will never work.” The Spanish National Court continues its investigation into the incident, treating it as a serious act of terrorism. Vidal-Quadras, once the leader of the conservative Popular Party in Catalonia, later became an MEP and founded Vox, leaving the far-right party after its inception.

Spanish Congress approves Constitution change for equality In a historic move, the Spanish Congress has voted to amend the country’s Constitution for just the third time in its history, replacing the term ‘handicapped’ with ‘persons with a disability.’ This significant change follows longstanding demands from the disabled community in Spain. The amendment, centred around Article 49, not only updates the language but also emphasises that ‘public administrations will pursue policies that guarantee the complete autonomy and social inclusion of people with disabilities.’ The announcement of the vote’s result in the Senate house was met with substantial applause from the public gallery. In an uncommon moment of consensus, the two largest parties, the

ruling PSOE socialists and the rightwing main opposition People’s Party (PP), both supported the amendment. All other parties represented in the parliament, with the exception of the far-right Vox party, also backed the change. The amendment passed with an overwhelming vote of 312 to 32, requiring the support of three-fifths of the parliament’s lower chamber. It must now go through the Senate, where it needs to pass with the same margin. The Senate house hosted the vote as the Spanish Congress building undergoes refurbishment. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez expressed his satisfaction, stating, “Today is a great day for our democracy.” He apologised on behalf of the country for the delay in making this change,

emphasising, “We are paying off a moral debt that we have had with over 4 million of our fellow citizens.” Spain’s 1978 Constitution, marking the return to democracy after Franco’s dictatorship, has seen only two prior amendments. One such change pertained to the order of royal succession, shifting it from the first-born male heir of the monarch to the first-born child. However, despite widespread consensus, there has been no credible attempt to amend the Constitution’s monarchy-related provisions. This reluctance stems from fears that left-wing republican parties could push for a referendum on the future of the monarchy. As it stands, Princess Leonor, the eldest daughter of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, is the current heir to the throne.

Visit the oldest aquarium in the Valencian community Situated in the Museo del Mar of Santa Pola, this aquarium is the oldest in the region, and includes nine large glass tanks containing beautiful flora and fauna from the Mediterranean Sea. It makes an educational and recreational visit that introduces our closest maritime surroundings: the bay of Santa Pola and the Island of Tabarca. The water comes

directly from the sea, and most of the species which the aquarium keeps were donated by the sailors of Santa Pola. In 1981, work began on the creation of an archaeological, fishing museum and aquarium for Santa Pola. All the equipment was installed in the Castle Fortress of Santa Pola with the aim of preserving the rich cultural heritage

based on the local fishing tradition, and in the most emblematic monument of the town. After two years of work, in 1983 the first rooms in the Castle dedicated to archaeology, fishing gear and marine biology were opened to the public. Last year 2023, the origin of the complex that we today call the Museum of the Sea, celebrated its 40 years of

A couple arrested in Torrevieja for auctioning counterfeit luxury products National Police agents have arrested two people in Torrevieja for selling counterfeit luxury leather goods at auctions. Its commercialization would mean damage to the brands of 50,000 euros. Those arrested included counterfeit leather goods from luxury brands in renowned auction houses in different provinces of Spain. Eight bags, a belt and four sunglasses have been seized, arranged for sale through different auction houses, for amounts between 2,000 and 10,000 euros. The realism and quality of the counterfeit pieces was so faithful to the originals that, in some cases, it has been determined that they have managed to overcome the authenticity filters established by the auction houses, being sold as genuine. The investigation began in September 2023 when those responsible for a renowned auction house in Madrid informed the National Police of their suspicions about the auction of four bags from two prestigious brands. Apparently, some characteristics of these items, such as certificates of authenticity, packaging or sewing finishes, did not correspond to those of the original brands. Once the products were analyzed by the investigators, the Scientific Police specialists determined that, indeed, they were counterfeit items.

After various efforts, the agents identified the people in charge of marketing these fake products, a Ukrainian woman and an Austrian man, residents of Torrevieja (Alicante). The couple included non-original bags from luxury brands, in renowned auction houses in different provinces of the Spanish territory to be sold for a high value. They even imitated the certificates of authenticity of the brands To give it greater realism, those arrested even imitated the certificates of authenticity that luxury brands issue for their pieces, which made it

even more difficult to identify their falsehood. The realism and quality of the counterfeit pieces was so faithful to the originals that, in some cases, it has been determined that they have managed to overcome the authenticity filters established by the auction houses and have been sold as genuine. Last December, the two investigated were arrested and the home where they lived was searched, where eight bags, four sunglasses and a belt were seized, prepared in cases, to be distributed. In addition, three labels and a lanyard with the identification logo of luxury brands have been found.

Plastic pollution on the beaches of the Vega Baja region

Unfortunately, it has been the dumping of “pellets” in Galicia that has brought to the fore an obvious pollution problem that has been known for many years. It has been this ecological catastrophe that has sneaked the debate into the political sphere, but this silent tide covers all the beaches in the country with plastic, therefore, also those on the coast of the Vega Baja region, in fact, these days, For example, more than a dozen of these particles have been seen in 25 linear meters on the beach of Cala Capitán in

Orihuela Costa , as shown on the page of Crónicas Naturales de Torrevieja , whose author is the biologist Juan Antonio Pujol. You just have to look a little, especially where the waves break, to see how the sea currents and the wind drag these pellets, also known as “plastic pearls” or “mermaid tears,” to our shores, waste that joins the hundreds of thousands of kilos of plastic of all kinds in the sea. These substances take a long time to decompose and there is a huge amount of microplastics

that enter the sea food chain, that is, the marine food chain to which humans are exposed. We are not aware of the amount of plastic and other waste that exists in the sea and sandy beaches. The first thing that comes to mind is bottles or bags, but the list of waste is endless: wrappers, cans, containers, balloons and much more. What happened in Galicia should serve to make us aware that maritime transport legislation must be changed, as well as reducing plastic, says Pujol.

GBP / EUR UPDATE GBP Somewhat surprisingly, GBP, alongside USD, has emerged as the best-performing G10 currency this year*. Monetary policy was the main driver of currency strength last year, and the BoE’s generally bullish stance may have provided the strong tailwind for the currency we saw in the final months of 2023 and now in 2024. However, current disinflationary pressures could mean the BoE will be forced to reassess its monetary policy outlook and ease interest rates sooner or faster than expected. Markets are currently pricing in three further interest rate cuts this year compared to their expectations in December, meaning we could see as many as 1.25% cuts over the year. The forecast for falling inflation has sped up significantly, which has led Deutsche Bank, Investec, and Oxford Economics to anticipate inflation to fall below the BoE target of 2% within four months. This could be a consequence of a reduction in energy prices. However, the latest CPI inflation data for the UK was released on Wednesday morning, showing an unexpected acceleration. The Consumer Price Index in the UK rose by 4% in December, up from 3.9% in November and 0.2% more than the 3.8% expected by markets. This is the first time inflation has risen since February 2023 and could relieve pressure on the Bank of England to start cutting rates. The major contributors to the increase were alcohol and tobacco after a recent increase in duty, which was balanced by the continued downward trend from food and non-alcoholic beverages. The UK’s data follows the trend of slightly increasing inflation we’ve also seen in

the US and EU last month. This week also saw the UK’s Claimant Count data released on Tuesday, falling well below the forecast of 18.1K to 11.7K and the latest Retail Sales data this morning, which was forecast to contract by -0.5%. Retail sales volumes came in much lower than expected and were estimated to have fallen by -3.2%. These data releases could prove difficult tests for Sterling’s strength.

EUR Last week saw the release of the latest Eurozone Inflation data, which jumped from November’s figure of 2.4% to 2.9%, below forecasts but against the general trend for the last 15 months. German Preliminary CPI came in at 0.1%, below the expected 0.2% on Thursday 4th January, but against the general trend again. This week, we saw the Final CPI release, which came in as expected at 2.9%, and European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde spoke at various engagements throughout the week, including at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The European Central Bank is due to meet on the 25th January. The probability of the bank cutting rates is only 3.4%, according to a Bloomberg forecasting model. However, the ECB is expected to reduce rates to 2.5% by December this year. Last month, projections were for rates to end 2024 at 3%, with markets pricing in two further cuts during the year in January. The Governor of Portugal’s Central Bank, Mário Centeno, made the news last week after he said that the ECB would cut rates sooner than it had recently thought and that it shouldn’t wait till May to decide.

The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, José Luis Aguirre, visited different locations in the Vega Baja region this morning , including a visit to the San Fulgencio decanter and the Orihuela Private Water Court, a place where A series of aids have been presented to complement those that are currently being carried out as a result of the 2019 DANA event. Aguirre wanted to take advantage of the visit to the Private Water Court to present a new line of self-funded aid for the 2024 year that “will involve an investment of almost 3 million euros.” The total amount of the subsidy amounts to 2.5 million euros, distributed in 2.2 million euros for the irrigation communities, water courts and irrigation unions

and 300,000 euros for owners of livestock farms. This amount may be increased by another 2.5 million euros. The aid will cover the entire amount of eligible expenses. Actions to adapt and reduce flood risk, such as pumping stations, will be eligible for subsidies. These aid were announced on December 28 in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat Valenciana and are framed in the measures for adaptation to the risk of flooding in the Vega Baja del Segura. In addition, they are addressed to the communities of irrigators, water courts, irrigation unions or other irrigation entities and owners of livestock farms in the Vega Baja del Segura. In this sense, actions to adapt and reduce the risk of

flooding of vulnerable facilities of irrigation communities, water courts, irrigation unions and other irrigation entities will be eligible for subsidies, such as, for example, pumping stations, electrical panels and transformers, filtering stations and ponds. The Minister of Agriculture has explained that “what they want to achieve with the works is that, in the case of new avenues, the capacity for water channeling and evacuation is the maximum possible and the damage that may be caused is the least possible.” Likewise, he added that, to complete the execution of the works, “the extension of the remaining sections in the different municipalities would be missing for the correct evacuation of water.”

Los Montesinos registers PSOE requests inclusion the first earthquake of the for single parent families year in the region The National Geographic Institute (IGN) has recorded an earthquake on the night of this Friday, January 19, in the municipality of Los Montesinos. From Proyecto Mastral they inform us that the earthquake occurred at 11:10 p.m. with a magnitude of 2.3 and with an epicenter west of Los

Montesinos. The movement, which occurred at a depth of about 11 kilometers, has been felt in practically the entire Vega Baja in a slight way. Likewise, they have indicated that “there is no evidence of personal or material damage, this type of movement being normal in this area of high seismic

activity.” Social networks have been filled with comments regarding the places where the earthquake has been felt. Almoradí, Benejúzar or Callosa de Segura are among the towns in the region where the greatest degree of intensity has been felt.

The Socialist Group urges the local Oriolano executive to comply with the proposal approved unanimously in February 2022, which sought to modify the Municipal Ordinances to include singleparent families in Orihuela as beneficiaries. «According to what was stated by the Intervention and Treasury departments, to carry out this proposal it is necessary to outsource the contracting, since a review of the current regulations is required that has never been carried out. These modifications must be approved before the end of the last quarter of the year. For this reason, January is considered a favorable month to request it again, with the aim of completing the work before reaching 2025,” says the socialist spokesperson, Carolina Gracia. In the Valencian Community there are 240,000 single-family homes and only 20% have the status of single-parent family recognized. Gracia explained that in addition to urging the government team to modify the municipal regulatory texts, the motion also asks that a line of aid be included in the budgets so that in 2024, from the

Department of Family, aid can be called that They are aimed at ensuring that these families can afford expenses or needs that arise and pose a risk to their financial stability. Therefore, he added that “we believe that if it is true that the approval of the budgets is so imminent, this group must have the support of the local government and therefore we hope that all the subsidies that will be published in 2024 will be reviewed to that the members of these families can opt for them.” The Socialist Group considers

that it is the right time for Orihuela to establish a Census of Single Parent Families and to establish a support and information point so that this group can receive the assistance it needs. As Gracia explained, “in the Valencian Community there are 240,000 single-family homes and only 20% have the status of single-parent family recognized.” Therefore, it is crucial that the city council provides them with support so that they know the procedures and requirements necessary to obtain the certificate.

The works on the old Orihuela courts are moving towards completion

The works on the building that occupied the old Orihuela courts are in a very advanced state . This morning the Orihuela City Council has visited the works that are expected to be completed by the month of June, thus carrying out the transfer of furniture and office supplies that will occupy various areas such as “infrastructure and heritage on the first floor or contracting and secretariat on the second, while the third floor will be occupied by the economic area with a total of 30 workers,” For his part, the construction director, Antonio Galiano , has highlighted the extensive

structural reinforcement work that has been carried out in the building that dates back to 1974. Specifically, Galiano explained that “some areas of the building needed superior reinforcement.”“which has been solved through reinforcement structures on horizontal stresses such as earthquakes.” The final objective of the works in the old courts of Orihuela has focused on turning it into a friendly work space, ensuring the well-being of people by controlling colors or lighting. In short, a building that converts municipal facilities into sustainable and modern ones. The popular mayor, Pepe

Vegara, has highlighted the work as “enormous” that has turned the space into a modern building in which, for example, “the artificial light varies its intensity depending on the natural light that enters the room being occupying.” Regarding the budget initially awarded, this has suffered an increase of 20% which corresponds to just over 300,000 euros. The budget modifications are mainly based on the structural reinforcement of the building, the improvement of the transformation center or access to the Civil War Shelter from inside the building.

PSOE denounces the cancellation Guardamar Vocational Training Centre

Reactions continue regarding the decision of the Generalitat Valenciana to stop the creation of a comprehensive Vocational Training center in Guardamar del Segura. The regional Secretary of Education of the Vega Baja socialists, Gabriel Valero, has denounced that “the Popular Party punishes Guardamar for the political sign of its town hall.” He adds that the president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón “does not care about the suitability of this vocational training center in a key town in the region such as Guardamar, they only look at the color of the town hall to pursue

a policy of cronyism.” Gabriel Valero has stated that “Ximo Puig’s government opted for a vocational training center in Guardamar, as evidenced by the fact that it has already received an allocation in the 2023 budgets, for the total work, estimated at 13.2 million euros. coming from the Edificant plan, intended for the construction of teaching infrastructures throughout the Valencian Community. This paralysis is a demonstration of his sectarianism and his way of understanding politics.” The regional secretary has assured that “among the studies

that were going to be carried out in the center is aquaculture, where Guardamar is a reference in our province. What the regional Secretariat is saying is looking for excuses under the rocks, with the sole purpose of changing the center to a population more similar to the PP.” The mayor of Guardamar himself, José Luis Sáez, followed the same line the day before at the microphones of Radio Orihuela upon learning of this decision of the Generalitat that the city council is going to allege and fight for the continuity of the project.

ar a cer n akes histor as pain s first par ia entarian ith o n s ndro e For decades she battled to ensure that people with intellectual disabilities were part of the conversation. The extent of the progress she had made, however, was laid bare recently when Mar Galcerán became Spain’s first parliamentarian with Down’s syndrome. “It’s unprecedented,” the 45-yearold told the Guardian. “Society is starting to see that people with Down’s syndrome have a lot to contribute. But it’s a very long road.” Her feat has been decades in the making. When Galcerán was 18 years old, she joined the conservative People’s party (PP) after being attracted to what she described as its embrace of tradition. Slowly she worked her way up the party apparatus. Her commitment paid

off last May when she was added as the 20th name on the list of candidates the PP was fielding in Valencia’s regional elections. News that Galcerán had obtained a seat in the regional parliament came soon after. “Welcome Mar,” the region’s PP leader, Carlos Mazón, wrote on social media. “Great news for politics, overcoming barriers.” The achievement catapults Galcerán to the top of the ranks of the handful of people with Down’s syndrome who have crashed through barriers to enter the world of politics. In 2020, Éléonore Laloux became the first person with the genetic disorder in France to be elected to public office, as a city council member in the northern town of Arras, while Ireland’s Fintan Bray was hailed for making history after he was

elected to a political position in the country in 2022. In Spain, Galcerán’s path into politics was blazed by Ángela Bachiller, who in 2013 became Spain’s first city councillor with Down’s syndrome in the northern city of Valladolid. Galcerán may be the first in Europe, however, to join a regional or national parliament, according to Spain’s Down’s syndrome federation. “We haven’t heard of anyone else,” said Agustín Matía Amor of Down España. “It’s a huge step forward and an example of real inclusion.” He was quick to point out that the achievement was also a reflection of the decades Galcerán had spent working to advance the status of people with Down’s syndrome in Spain. For more than 20 years Galcerán

had worked as a civil servant in Valencia, most recently helping to carve out inclusive policy, adding to the four years she spent at the helm of Asindown, a Valencian organisation dedicated to helping families with

children that have Down’s syndrome. “It’s both great news and a recognition of her work and the many initiatives she was involved in,” said Matía Amor. “It’s a good example of what is possible.”

Your tech questions answered by Brian Hoile of the Costa Blanca Technology Help Group, helping over 320 members with their PCs , smartphones and more. Group members can attend meetings in person or online using Zoom or Teams. If you have a question or problem with any household technology needing my help or want to join the Technology Help Group please email Brian at cbtechnology.help@gmail.com. As a group member, you would have access to the group website which contains previous session notes, handouts and access to previous Costa Blanca People published articles. Scan the QR for a reminder of what the Costa Blanca Technology Help Group offers. Meetings at Dilly’s Bar, Av. Castuera, 3, 03184 El Chaparral, Alicante. Group meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 10:00 to 12:00. The Next meeting is on Wednesday 14th February 2024. You are welcome to attend. ““I can’t find an ongoing document that I started in Open Office. Where can I find any previous work?” If you know the name of the file that you can’t find, you can go to File Explorer and search for it by

name. If you find it you should then note its location. Open Open Office. Select Open. Go to the location of the file you want and choose the file to open it. If you then save that file, it will appear in “Recent Documents” when you open “Open Office” next. “What does Archive mean on Google Photos?” Simply put, the Google Photos archive is a way to hide your photos without deleting them. You can send any image from your library to the archive, and it will stay in cloud storage for as long as you want it to. You can hide photos from your Photos view and move them to the archive. This can help you organise your photos and hide any photos that you don’t want to find often. Any photos that you archive: Will still be in any albums that they were added to, search results, and folders on your device. The photos you store in the Archive are not deleted or changed by Google Photos. It’s only up to you to decide what to do with archived photos and you can leave them there indefinitely.

However, the photos and videos in the Archive do take up storage space and count towards your storage limit. “How to see if your Digital Certificate is installed?” The digital certificate allows you to carry out various administrative procedures remotely without having to go in person. It can be used for example for: • Taxes report • Fines payment to the DGT (Dirección General de Tráfico) • Grants application • Empadronamiento • Electronically sign official documents • Consult social security To check that your Digital Certificate is installed you need to try to use it to access any of the above. To view certificates for the local device 1. Select Run from the Start menu, and then enter certlm.msc. The Certificate Manager tool for the local device appears. 2. To view your certificates, under Certificates - Local Computer in the left pane, expand the directory for the type of certificate you want to view. Brian Hoile, Technology Help Group

outh depart ent participates in the oop oung opportunit progra e The Youth Department of the City Council of Torrevieja is selecting young people to participate in the JOOP program in its eighth edition, and whose course will be launched on January 30. As reported by the mayor of Youth, Domingo Paredes, this is an initiative promoted by the Institut Valencià de la Joventut (IVAJ) and funded by the European Social Fund, which aims to motivate and guide young people between 16 and 21 years who have dropped out of school. The programme is open to young people from Torrevieja, who neither study nor work, may or may not have completed ESO, others may have started high school or vocational training and dropped out, without obtaining at least an intermediate technical qualification. Out of the education system and with few expectations in the labour market, they are young people who are going through a moment of uncertainty in their lives and that with this course we try to get them to redirect their lives. As a second chance programme, JOOP comes to their support and will be a lifechanging experience for them. The aim is to get these

young people back into the education system to complete an intermediate vocational training course. But first, they will need an intervention that works on their motivation, reinforces their self-esteem and helps them to build a comprehensive life project. To do this, they use a pedagogical tool such as ATTITUDINAL COACHING, in groups of between 10 and 15 participants. The programme will also provide them with guidance on the different professional families of the VET, but from an absolutely practical approach: through visits to 20 host companies, where they will be shown the real work that each VET qualification leads to. The idea is that, during one of these visits, the JOOP boys and girls (the joopers) will discover their vocation. And that discovery will give them the energy they need to make the decision to return to their studies. For those young people who have not graduated from secondary school, JOOP offers them an academic training module to prepare them for the entrance exam to intermediate vocational training. For the other Joopers in the group,

there will be academic refresher sessions, which will enable them to face the following year’s return to the education system with a better chance of success. Joop will take place in the mornings, from Monday to Friday, from 10:00 to 14:00, and will be complemented by regular individual sessions between each student and their coach. During the six months following the end of the course, monthly group meetings will be held to monitor the students. participants in our city, with interviews with people referred from the Guidance Department of the Educational Centres and Social Services. ene ar grants a ost euros in aid for the se f e p o ed and s The Benejúzar City Council has recently granted self-employed people, professionals and SMEs in the municipality a total of 99,546 euros, through the call for aid from the Provincial Council of Alicante aimed at minimizing the economic impact of the energy crisis originated in the context of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Up to 61 companies established in the town have benefited from this initiative, through which, as explained by the mayor and head of the Treasury, Vicente Cases, “1,657 euros have been granted for each application that we have processed.” The Benejuense town council launched this line of

aid last October, with the aim of alleviating the rise in prices, operating costs and interest rates. The main requirement to be met by the benefited companies has been that the average net returns of the months for which the aid was requested, between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023, have been equal to or lower to the average of total returns obtained during the same months of 2021. The call seeks to offer an instrument of help for small and medium-sized businesses Cases has stated that the main objective of the call has been to “offer an instrument of help for small and mediumsized businesses in the town,

self-employed workers and professionals from Benejúzar who have been forced to suspend and reduce their activity and, consequently, have seen their income has decreased, while they have had to continue covering the fixed costs of the business.” Likewise, the first mayor has indicated that “from this city council and government team we are going to continue with the commitment to support our merchants and our companies within our possibilities, to continue strengthening and promoting the economic fabric of our municipality in everything that may be possible”.

oad resurfacing in southern orre ie a near co p eted

The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon, accompanied by the Councillor for Urban Management, Accessibility and Urban Services, Sandra Sanchez, have visited the various streets included in the Resurfacing Plan of the southernmost area of the municipality, checking the state of implementation in which they are, including main roads such as the case of Avenida de las Olas in the Rocío del Mar urbanization, which had been more than a decade without being resurfaced. Sandra Sánchez explained that the sections of streets and

surfaces in the southern area of the Resurfacing Plan, which will be completed during the month of January, are as follows: - Avenida de las Olas, from the roundabout where it meets the N-332 road to Paseo de Los Vientos, 10,286 m2. - Cala Dorada, Caballito de Mar and Estrellita de Mar streets, 3,110 m2. - Street sections in the Urbanización Los Balcones, Isla Grossa, Avenida de Elche, Tomás Martínez Domenech, Avenida del Mediterráneo and Covadonga, 3,439 m2. - Municipal car park next

to the University Hospital of Torrevieja Dr. Manuel García Gea, 1,389 m2. At all times the works are being carried out in coordination with the traffic area of the Local Police and the Urban Transport service, in order to affect the users of this public service as little as possible. The works will be completed with the painting of all the horizontal road markings for an area of more than 18,000 m2 of asphalt, representing an investment of around 290,000 euros, including overheads, industrial profit and VAT.

he a or of orre ie a eets the resident of the ro incia ounci of icante The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon, accompanied by the advisor to the Presidency, José Rubio, was received last week at the Provincial Palace of the Provincial Council of Alicante by its president, Toni Pérez, with whom he held a working meeting to discuss various cultural, tourism, sports and important future projects and infrastructure for our municipality. Eduardo Dolon and Toni Perez spoke, among other issues, the rehabilitation project of the monumental complex of the Eras de la Sal and the new Museum of Sea and Salt, which has a significant investment of the Provincial Council, as well as the Generalitat Valenciana and the City Council itself. Infrastructure issues were also discussed, such as the public lighting renovation works subsidised by the Provincial Council, which will be carried out in the city this year 2024. Another important aspect of the meeting was the financial support of the provincial institution to national sporting events that take place in Torrevieja, and that have been a success of public and participation as were the departures from the city of the

Tour of Spain both male and female. In tourism matters, as well as renewing the Costa Blanca Tourism grant for another year, new future projects were discussed which would be framed within the framework of this agreement. In addition, the Mayor and the President of the Provincial Council finalised the various actions to be carried out jointly at the next edition of FITUR, to be held next week from 24 to 28 January at the IFEMA exhibition centre in Madrid. Eduardo Dolon explained all the projects that are being implemented in the city of Torrevieja and those to be

carried out in the next four years, which will involve an investment of about 100 million euros, so it has asked for financial support to the president of the provincial institution. Also, the mayor told him the importance of continuing to bet on the Bono Consumption in this year 2024, as it has been a success and has shown that it is very beneficial for both the productive sectors of the town and for citizens. Finally, Eduardo Dolon thanked the willingness and commitment of Toni Perez to support all cultural, tourist and festive initiatives that take place in the city of Torrevieja.

ene ar oins the initiati e to create a outh ounci that unites the unicipa ities of ega a a Benejúzar joins the list of municipalities that will work for the constitution of a common Youth Council for the whole Vega Baja. The Mayor of the town, Vicente Cases, and the Councillor for Youth, Roberto Llopis, showed their support for the proposal of Gonzalo Adsuar, ambassador of the European Parliament in Spain for the European elections 2024, in a meeting held recently at the Town Hall. This ‘joint’ Youth Council aims, in the future, to bring together youth associations from all over the region to promote the participation and activism of this sector of the population. “This is a great initiative that will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our young people and those of the entire Vega Baja, in which we want to involve the Benejúzar associative network to be part of this ambitious project that we hope can be launched as soon as possible,” said Cases. Adsuar also spoke at this meeting about other youth projects and policies such as the campaign ‘A tree for Europe’, promoted by the youth association Equipo Europa and supported by the European Parliament. The Consistory

benejucense also joins this initiative, with which “show our commitment to sustainability, the fight against climate change and deforestation, through the symbolic planting of a tree in a day that we will carry out soon in our mountains with the young people of the municipality,” he said. Another of the projects discussed at the meeting is the implementation of consultations with young

people, “a proposal arising from the X Cycle of Dialogue with Youth, to promote the inclusion and the views of young people in the decision-making process and make them participants,” said Llopis. For his part, the mayor of Benejúzar, Vicente Cases, stressed the importance of citizen participation in the town and integrating young people in decision-making, “as they are the future of our municipality”.

In addition to presenting this interesting book during her

visit a working day was held, in which the Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon, the Councillor for Culture, José Antonio Quesada and the manager of the Municipal Institute of Culture, Miguel Fernandez, along with members of the Advisory Committee of the project of the Eras de la Sal, Vincent Chapapria, Joaquin Chapapria, Fernando Vera and Jose Norberto Mazon, showed the Director General the environment of the Natural Park

of the Lagunas de La Mata and Torrevieja. Later, after the visit to the natural park, they held a meeting in the town hall with the intention of explaining the importance of the past of Torrevieja and to make her aware of the proposal to declare this natural environment as a “Cultural Park” and to undertake the enhancement of the cultural heritage in the lagoon of La Mata.

What is microneedling... Everything you need to know ! In this day and age of social media sharing having a facial is as common as #OOTD (outfit of the day) so there is a good chance you have heard of microneedling. This minimally invasive procedure which involves inserting short sterile needles into the skin that help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, pigmentation and some stretch marks. This idea may sound scary but in reality there is nothing to be afraid of, here is a breakdown of the treatment... The needles range from 0.5 - 2.5 millimetres which rotate over the skin using a pen like device which creates

tiny wounds in the stratum corneum (the most top layer of skin) to reach the epidermis and the dermis . These tiny controlled injuries are used to promote new collagen formation which in turn helps skin remain tighter and firmer as we age.

Benifits of microneedling • improves skin texture • reduce fine lines & wrinkles • minimise pores • improves hydration levels in the skin • improves pigmentation marks. After the treatment you will experience some redness and tenderness (feels like a slight sunburn) for the first few hours but this goes

away on its own. Results are seen over the next 4-6 weeks as the skin needs time to turnover. Microneedling is not a one off treatment usually a course of 3 procedures is recommended 4 weeks apart and here at Indiana’s hair & lash boutique I often use it with a combination of other technologies to get the best possible results.

Does microneedling hurt? Many clients find microneedling feels like a buzzing over their skin feeling more sensitive over less fleshy areas ie forehead, cheekbones. Most leave feeling like they have had the best facial ever. Clients may experience red skin and slight swelling but by evening you will be back to normal or slightly pink with minimal downtime. This treatment is a favourite among celebrities, why not book your

consultation at Indiana’s Hair & Lash Boutique today. See Indiana´s advert on page 5 or call 681 250 190 for further information.

ago ardin church re opens for unda With the rising cost of living, my family and I are finding it hard to make ends meet. I’ve taken a second job at night to cope. My problem is my office job. I am getting very tired; and the poorer, for these well-meaning work members who come around collecting for peoples’ birthdays etc. I am not a tight fisted person, nor anti funloving by any means, however in one month alone, there were 20 birthdays, for which we were being asked for five pounds a time to contribute to a present or drinks at the Pub. Coupled with collections for illness, and now other random charitable causes; it’s starting to really get me down and I don’t need the added stress. Other work colleagues on my department are also expressing that they are not only tired of this practice, but are being left

sorely out of pocket. I remember a situation just like this at my place of work. I am sure if you, or a bunch of you went to HR, this practice could be dealt with very easily. A card for someone’s birthday is one thing; being asked for a chunk of your hard earned salary is another. Our HR dept, and the owner of the Company, sent a memo to all staff, informing us that there would be a card only for these occasions; purchased by the Firm, and no monetary donations would be requested. If things do not change; you are well within your rights to refuse. You can say something like, ‘I am sorry, but my family needs every penny of my income, and for that reason I will no longer be contributing’.

The church on the urbanización at Lago Jardin, Torrevieja reopened for Sunday Mass on Sunday 14th January with Father Richard A. Seabrook SSC celebrating the Eucharist for the first time on a Sunday morning there. The church, which had been closed for four years, re-opened in December to celebrate its centenary. “We´ve had a few services during the week up until now and we had a Vigil Mass at Christmas,” said Father Seabrook, “but it´s really great we have been able to expand our ministry there on a Sunday morning. It was lovely to see our beautiful small church full!” “Along with my other church at Calle Granados in La Siesta,

Torrevieja where we alternate between Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings for our Masses in English, we can now offer Mass in English twice a month at Lago Jardín,” he went on to say. “La Siesta Church has been the backbone of our church life since the Pandemic and I´ve been so grateful that we have been able to continue our worship there Our presence there is as strong as ever but adding Lago Jardín Church means we can reach out to the people in the Lago Jardín and Los Balcones area especially as the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción at Los Balcones is still closed and we used to have Mass there

ass

on a Sunday too.” “We advertise all our services on Facebook, our website and our new Instagram account which we are trying to build up as a way of communicating on social media. he announces the end of stickers on indscreen

In a groundbreaking move towards digital transformation, the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) in Spain has announced the end of the traditional ITV (MOT) stickers that have been displayed on car windscreens in Spain, including the Canary Islands for over 30 years. This decision is part of a comprehensive strategy to digitise administrative procedures, aiming to modernise the system and bolster the efficiency of road authorities during vehicle inspections. Instead of the traditional sticker, the DGT will introduce a new APP

or electronic system, offering both authorities and drivers access to the status of their vehicles’ ITV and all pertinent information digitally. Beyond the evident administrative convenience, this innovation promises environmental benefits by curbing the costs and environmental impacts associated with producing and distributing physical stickers.

Concerns about cyber security Nevertheless, the shift to a digital platform has sparked concerns among some users, particularly regarding data

privacy and security. Reports indicate that there are safety concerns, as any potential failure in this application could expose drivers’ confidential and personal information to the public. Critics argue that the risk of digital identity theft and impersonation is a substantial consideration that the DGT must address to ensure the robustness of its security system against potential cyber threats. At the moment, there is no confirmed date as to when the transitions will come into effect.

The stands were packed at the Esteban Rosado for the visit of 1st placed CD Murada to 3rd placed SC Torrevieja this Sunday. The Brigada Salinera and Torry Army united prior to kick-off to display impressive new Tifo’s created from the Spanish supporter’s club reading “One Love, One Club”. Torry coach Jose Antonio Gil fielded a strong 11 but in truth due to the current injury crisis and 3 suspensions his options were limited. Changes from the 2-1 defeat at Almoradi last were; Maxi in goal, Ruan at centre back after some very impressive performances from the prospect in the ‘B’ team, Kevin started in midfield with Luis Carlos moving to left back and forward Lewis came in to start against his former team. New signing from Thader Fran Diez starts on the bench looking to make his Torry debut. Kick-off 1st shot of the game falls to Torry with Lewis getting free in the box. His shot is well blocked and easily gathered by the keeper, 3min played. 11mins now gone and another opportunity for Torry as Omar jinks his way into the box and hits a good strike but it’s a narrow angle and the keeper blocks it. Murada have their 1st chance on 17mins as a lofted ball forward is mis-read by Campillo and their striker is through in the box, Maxi is quick off his line and makes a smart save. 19 mins, Lewis and Omar link up well down the left, Lewis then looks for Montero at the near post, but the defender is quick to make a block the clear to safety Two quick Torry chance on 20mins, 1st Lewis hits one from 20-yards keeper was beaten but it’s agonisingly just over the bar then Manu from a similar range but his curling effort lacks power and floats over the bar 21 32mins great save from Maxi pushing over the bar after a header was on target from a wide right Murada free kick Murada are dangerous on the break, 37mins gone and another good chance for them. It comes from a nothing long ball up the field which catches Torry

Abbey Anglers On Tuesday the 16th of January we fished the third round of the Abbey angling cup at El Bosquet. The weather was quite pleasant with a gentle breeze and temperatures approaching 20 degrees. The complex has been fishing particularly hard in recent weeks but the unseasonably warm temperatures gave hope of a good days fishing. The outcome was quite the opposite and apart from a great winning weight the results were very poor with three dry nets all on section

out, the striker gets through 1-1 with Maxi thankfully he rushed his shot and it’s well over the bar Torry hit the bar, 4 mins until half-time and that’s the closest we’ve come to a goal. Dani Muñoz does really well to win the ball back on the right side before crossing to the back post, Montero rises to flick it on to Luis Carlos and he catches a lovely half volley cleanly, but it smashes off the bar and back out to safety. Half-time SC Torrevieja CF 0-0 CD Murada Best we’ve seen Torry play for a while just lacking the all-important goal. 2nd Half Only 1 minute into the 2nd half and it’s a Penalty to Murada. Maxi in the Torry goal spills a long-range effort then the attacking player is bundled over by Ruan. MAXI SAVES great stop down to his right side....it remains 0-0 A Cristian corner on 49mins finds Lewis at the back post but he’s at full stretch and can only flick his header wide of the post. Penalty shout for Torry, Lewis goes down in the box under pressure, it didn’t look much from the stands but the Torry players are adamant it should be a spot kick,

A1 to 7. Winner on the day was Tony Felstead, drawn on the favoured peg 40 he fished the pole at 13m with maggots and weighed 20.50kg of carp. In second place was Terry Brindley on peg B1. This has also been fishing fairly well in recent weeks and using his new maggot rig he caught carp and barbel on the pole for 9.14kg. In third place from peg 3 was Barry Homer, he too fished the pole with maggots and caught a large bass and 3 carp for 5.36kg.

53mins gone. 0-1 Murada goal 54mins - Torry get caught on the break after an attack breaks down. Murada then breaks down their right and the ball is played into the box, their striker does well to just flick the ball neatly around the on-rushing Maxi into the bottom corner. Substitution 62mins: Fran Diez (4) on for his debut - Replacing Dani Muñoz (19) 1-1 Torry goal, Lewis 63mins - Lewis picks up on a loose ball 20-yards and drills a low shot on goal, it may have taken a deflection, but it beats the keeper and finds the back of the net to level the game at 1-1. 67mins and it’s the new boy Fran Diez with some great footwork as he dances past 3 defenders to get to the byline, he’s unlucky and eventually gets crowded out just as he was about to get a shot off. Luis Carlos has a great run down the left before crossing to the near post where Montero gets a little flick to divert it on goal, but it’s well saved by the Murada stopper, 71mins Substitution 77mins: Ruan (2) the youngster has been impressive but has to be replaced as he’s picked up a knock – Replaced by Anto (20). Kevin drops into to play centre back. Fulltime SC Torrevieja CF 1-1 CD Murada

Rods N Reels The following day we fished the same complex. I did not attend the match and pegs A1 to 16 were fished. Winner on the day was John Waples from peg 8 with 12.72KG, Second was Harry Billing on peg 15 with 12kg and third was Dennis Clarke on peg 1 with 8.7kg. The battle for prizes in both the Abbey angling cup and the Rods and Reels cup are hotting up with Graham Patterson and John Waples leading the way after three rounds. Ian Brown

My thoughts... A very good game of Football. Torrevieja arguably played their best football so far this season and league leaders CD Murada will be the happier of the two teams to be leaving with a point. Torrevieja will be disappointed not to have scored more goals after dominating the ball for most of this fixture, but Murada also had their fair number of chances playing very well on the counterattack. Gil must be delighted with his team’s performance and its further evidence even with the number of players missing through injuries and suspensions we are good enough to beat any team in this league. It’s also worth noting away from this game the Torry Army have spoken with the clubs’ owners on Sunday, and they have confirmed that they are working hard to add to the squad highlighting they are working on at least one wide player to replace Lucas and a forward to cover the injured Gonzalo. Match Report, Chris Peach - Torry Army Secretary & Social Media Next Fixture Torry are at home again next weekend as welcome 13th placed San Fulgencio. The game is as usual Sunday with a 12:00hrs kick-off.
