Property manager Jailed for embezzlement of community funds in Torrevieja A 79-year-old property manager, named as Ramón LV, has begun serving a one-year-and-six-month prison sentence, totalling 545 days, for unfair administration. The conviction stems from a case brought by a Torrevieja

community of owners who accused him of diverting their money into his personal assets. Ramón LV, a known figure in the area involved in various real estate and workshop businesses, had initially believed he could evade

the consequences of his actions. The verdict, delivered by Criminal Court 2 of Torrevieja, saw the septuagenarian convicted of unfair administration after the community members successfully demonstrated that their funds had been misappropriated. Ramón LV, however, managed to avoid immediate imprisonment for over two years. In November 2022, the court granted a reprieve by revoking the custodial sentence, provided he fulfilled his civil responsibility by reimbursing the community the sum of 12,784

euros that had gone missing under his administration. The community, which had initially entrusted him with managing their finances and expenses, took legal action when they discovered the discrepancies between 2012 and 2015. Despite the court’s leniency, Ramón LV failed to meet his commitment to repay the community. In October of the following year, the court, noting his lack of effort to fulfil the financial obligation, rejected his final appeal and reinstated the original custodial sentence. The court emphasised his

reluctance, passivity, and disregard for the obligations outlined in the sentence. The community’s ordeal began when they realized that the funds allocated for the management and expenses of the community were not being used for their intended purposes. Ramón LV assured them that there was no cause for concern, claiming a healthy bank balance of 16,000 to 18,000 euros. However, suspicions arose, leading to the discovery that the account was actually in the red. Legal Action In an unusual move, the community decided to take legal action against the property administrator. Typically, such disputes are resolved through administrative means, avoiding the lengthy and costly legal process. The court’s ruling emphasised that Ramón LV could not justify the “property provisions” made in the account, as they were not intended for the community’s purposes. This led to an increase in the administrator’s personal assets, exposing his illicit profit. Despite having the opportunity to present a defence, Ramón LV chose not to testify and did not refute the evidence during the trial. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of community members knowing their rights and standing up against potential wrongdoing, even when faced with the complexities and delays inherent in the Spanish justice system.

Global temperature records shattered in January Global climate experts are sounding the alarm as data reveals that 2024 has a one in three chance of surpassing 2023’s record-breaking global temperature. As we approach the end of January, alarming temperature spikes are already occurring across Europe, heightening concerns about the accelerating pace of climate change. Spain, in particular, experienced an unprecedented day of heat last Thursday, with some areas recording temperatures exceeding 28°C. Notably, Fredes in Valencia, situated 1,200 meters above sea level, saw the mercury rise to 21.6°C, while the usually snow-covered ski resort of Puerto de Navacerrada maintained a nighttime temperature of no less than 10°C. Spanish meteorology institute AEMET reports that more than 90 locations have broken temperature records throughout January, with more than 400 observation stations reaching or exceeding 20°C on 25th January alone. The average

maximum temperature across the country during this period hovered around 18 to 19°C, significantly surpassing the usual January average of 10.6°C. This unseasonably warm weather is expected to persist into the weekend, driven by a high-pressure system carrying hot air from the south and blocking Atlantic storms. As regions like Andalusia and Catalonia face historic droughts, the combination of unusual heat and scarce rainfall intensifies concerns about dwindling water supplies, prompting discussions about potential water use restrictions. Beyond Spain, Portugal and France are also experiencing abnormal temperatures. In Portugal, the central district of Leiria reached 23°C, with predictions of 24°C on Friday, marking an 8 to 9°C departure from normal levels in the north. France’s MétéoFrance anticipates temperatures in the south to remain above seasonal averages until month-end, with records broken in various Mediterranean locations.

Australia is grappling with a severe heatwave, echoing conditions seen during the devastating 2019-2020 wildfires. Inland areas are witnessing their hottest days since that crisis, with temperatures nearing 50°C. South Africa is facing scorching temperatures and high fire risks, while Argentina is on high alert for temperatures exceeding 40°C over the weekend. Scientists at the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued a warning last week, stating that there is a one in three chance that 2024 will be hotter than 2023, the warmest year on record. Dr. Sarah Kapnick, NOAA Chief Scientist, emphasised the urgency of addressing climate change, noting that “we will continue to see records broken and extreme events grow until emissions go to zero.” With the El Niño climate pattern expected to persist into April, NOAA experts predict a 99% chance that 2024 will rank among the five hottest years on record.

Guardia Civil closes car workshop in Guardamar In a significant operation named Mashina23, the Civil Guard has successfully dismantled a clandestine vehicle workshop in Guardamar del Segura. The operation, which began after receiving information about potential irregularities, uncovered illegal practices, resulting in the investigation of two individuals for alleged crimes against workers’ rights. The workshop, located in a warehouse rented by a 42-year-old man of Belarusian origin, came under scrutiny after reports surfaced in November last year. The

individual, also the owner of a vehicle buying and selling business in the Vega Baja, was known to have a history of falsifying documents. Officers from Guardamar conducted a thorough inspection of the workshop. The operation revealed vehicles in various stages of repair and led to the intervention of 161 vehicle license plates from Spain and multiple European countries, all of which are currently under investigation. Two Belarusian nationals, aged 42 and

48, were investigated for an alleged crime against workers’ rights. The investigation uncovered their employment of three compatriots in irregular situations, subjecting them to extended working hours without the necessary work permits. The workers were found to be living within the workshop, receiving compensation in the form of food and clothing. Following a comprehensive analysis of the evidence, the employers were officially investigated on 5th December.

The judicial proceedings are now under the jurisdiction of the Court of Instruction No. 4 of Torrevieja. Additionally, the investigation resulted in an administrative infraction against the individuals involved for the possession and use of fluorinated gases to recharge vehicle air conditioning. This violation has been reported to the Department of the Environment, Water, Infrastructure, and Territory of the Generalitat Valenciana, as well as the Department of Customs and Special Taxes in Alicante.

Aldi unveils ambitious expansion plans for Spain In a strategic move, the renowned German supermarket chain Aldi, has announced an extensive expansion plan for its operations in Spain throughout 2024. The highlight of this expansion is the imminent opening of a distribution centre in Sagunto, located in the Valencia province, scheduled for next month. Another distribution centre in the northern region is also in the pipeline. The expansion initiative, led by Aldi’s Chief Executive Officer, Valentín Lumbreras, aims to introduce at least 50 new stores across the nation. The majority of these establishments will be strategically positioned in Aldi’s existing strongholds, particularly in popular coastal areas. Lumbreras stated that the objective is to “offer more households the option of quality, simple shopping at the best possible price.” In addition to the distribution centre in Sagunto, a hub in Miranda de Ebro, situated in the Burgos province, is part of Aldi’s expansion plan. Lumbreras revealed that new branches are set to be established this year in regions such as the Basque Country, Galicia, Cantabria, Castilla y León, as well as the Canary Islands. The existing network of stores will

also witness reinforcement, particularly in the Comunidad Valenciana, Catalunya, and Madrid. Notably, over half of Aldi’s planned expansion for 2024 is concentrated in three key regions, home to Spain’s three largest cities - Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia, in that order. Aldi has already initiated its growth in regions such as the landlocked western Extremadura, the Balearic Islands, and the south-eastern region of Murcia. Lumbreras confirmed that this growth trajectory will continue throughout the year. This ambitious expansion follows the successful opening of 46 new branches nationwide in 2023, marking the highest number since 2019. With the upcoming 50 stores in 2024, Aldi’s total store count in Spain

will reach an impressive 435. To support its expanding operations, Aldi currently operates distribution hubs in various strategic locations, including the newly added centers in Sagunto and Castilla y León. The existing hubs are situated in Masquefa (Barcelona province), Dos Hermanas (Sevilla province), Pinto (Madrid), San Isidro (Alicante province), and Agüimes in the Canary Islands. Aldi’s success in Spain is evident as it has managed to increase its customer base by approximately a third over the past year, boasting an impressive figure of around seven million satisfied customers. The supermarket chain remains committed to providing quality products and affordable shopping options to households across the nation.

Spain’s new tax year rings in the changes As Spain ushers in the new tax year, people are bracing for adjustments in the prices of utilities, commodities, and consumer goods, along with modifications to State benefits, the minimum wage, and contributory pensions.

2023 set the price at €15.14. Although a new price hike has not been officially declared, the government has imposed a cap of 5% on any increases until at least June 2024, with a maximum price set at €19.55 for a 12.5-kilo bottle.

Electricity: The initial impact of the new year is felt in the electricity sector, where a review in taxes applied to electricity supply is causing an increase in energy bills for 2024. After a temporary reduction to 5% in value-added tax (IVA) on mains electricity throughout 2023, implemented to counteract energy price inflation stemming from the conflict in Ukraine, the government anticipates a gradual return to the standard mid-rate IVA band of 10% over the course of 2024.

Telecommunications: Spain’s major phone and internet providers, including the Stateowned Telefónica, have announced price hikes. Movístar, Telefónica’s consumer brand, implemented slight increases on January 15 for mobile, fibre-optic internet, and TV services, ranging from €2 to €4 per month, depending on the service package.

Tax on food: In response to rising food prices, the Spanish government took the temporary measure of reducing value-added tax (IVA) on essential goods. This reduction will persist until at least June 2024, maintaining a zero IVA on items such as bread, flour, milk, cheese, eggs, fruit, vegetables, beans, pulses, and cereals for the next six months. Gas bottles: For homes in the southern half of the country relying on gas through butane bottles, a 5% increase in November

Public transport: Building on the success of discounted local and regional rail travel schemes in 2022 and 2023, the Spanish government aims to continue reducing prices for trains and buses throughout 2024. Existing discounts and free travel initiatives from the previous year will persist. Property rentals: The new Residential Property Law approved in May 2023 imposed a cap of 2% on annual rent increases, which has now been adjusted to 3% for 2024. Property owners are required to provide tenants with a minimum of one month’s notice before implementing any rent increase.

Wages: The fifth edition of the Collective Bargaining and Employment Agreement (AENC), signed by unions and company representatives in May, recommends a minimum pay rise of 3% for all workers in 2024. This aligns with an advisory 10% pay increase over three years, including 4% in 2023, and 3% each in 2024 and 2025, with an additional 1% each year if inflation rates exceed agreed figures. However, the negotiation for a minimum wage increase effective January 1 is ongoing, with conflicting proposals. The OECD suggests a 3% rise, the government proposes 4%, the CCOO advocates for 5%, and the UGT proposes approximately 13% to offset rising costs of essential goods.

State pension: Recipients of the maximum State pension will witness an increase in their monthly income from €3,059 to €3,175. Spain’s State pensions are determined based on contributions made over a working life of up to 37 years, with the final five to 15 years being crucial for setting the pension amount. Those who haven’t worked the minimum of 15 years for a contributory State pension usually qualify for a non-contributory pension, which is set to increase by 6.9% in 2024. As per tradition, pensioners receive 14 payments annually, including a double payment in August and at Christmas.

Discover the Island of Banyets in El Campello Known as La Illeta dels Banyets, this is one of the oldest excavated archaeological sites in Alicante. It is located in the pretty seaside town of El Campello, about 9km from the city of Alicante. This fascinating place is an ancient peninsula that was separated

from the coast due to an earthquake, on an uncertain date, in which the part that joined it to the land would be destroyed and eroded. In 1943 it was reconnected to the land to form a natural breakwater, using dynamite and destroying a large part of the prehistoric

necropolis. Today, the site has become a historical place of interest, where you can see the remains of Roman baths, farms & temples. With its natural beauty and spectacular scenery, La Illeta dels Banyets makes a very interesting and unique place to visit. Access is only

allowed with the guided tours that take place, from Tuesday to Sunday 10am-2pm, and entrance tickets are 3€ for adults and 1.50€ for children and pensioners. For reservations, please call 965 149 000 or visit the website www. marqalicante.com

Spanish Supreme Court declares child migrant return was unlawful In a landmark decision, the Spanish Supreme Court has declared that authorities acted unlawfully by returning unaccompanied child migrants to Morocco. This ruling comes in the wake of a significant incident in 2021 when thousands of individuals, including hundreds of unaccompanied minors, attempted to enter Ceuta, a Spanish enclave in North Africa, by breaching a border fence or swimming around it. The mass influx, involving around 10,000 people, primarily comprised individuals seeking a better life in Europe, with many believed to be sub-Saharan migrants. Morocco later took back the majority of these migrants, but the controversy arose over the treatment of unaccompanied children. Spain’s Interior Ministry had justified the return of unaccompanied minors by asserting that they wished to return home. Despite accusations from rights groups that such actions violated international law, Spanish officials maintained their position. However, Spain is bound by legal obligations to care for young migrants until their relatives can be located or until they reach the age of 18. The defence rested on a 2007 agreement between Spain and Morocco, allowing assisted returns once the cases of children had been

considered. Nevertheless, the Supreme Court judges rejected the argument that the 2007 agreement superseded Spanish law and ruled that the mass return contravened the European Convention on Human Rights. The decision underscores the significance of international human rights standards and the obligation of countries to adhere to these norms, especially in the treatment of vulnerable populations such as unaccompanied minors. The ruling reaffirms the rights of these children to proper care and protection, emphasizing the importance of individual

consideration rather than mass returns. The broader context highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Spain and other European countries as they grapple with migration flows from sub-Saharan Africa. Tens of thousands attempt perilous journeys each year, with many risking their lives to reach Europe. The ruling is expected to have implications for future policies and practices concerning the treatment of unaccompanied child migrants, underscoring the need for a rights-based approach in addressing the complexities of migration and asylum.

Brit in court after ill-advised joke on flight to Spain In a shocking turn of events, a British man, identified as Aditya V., is facing legal consequences after making a disturbing joke about blowing up a plane. The incident, which took place in the summer of 2022, unfolded at London’s Gatwick Airport just before Aditya was set to board a flight to the Spanish island of Menorca. Aditya chose to share photos of the airport’s checkin area with seven friends on Snapchat, accompanied by a self-composed message that read, “On my way to blow up the plane, I’m a member of the Taliban.” The unsettling message caught the attention of British intelligence, who detected it while the plane was already in flight over France. Alarmed by the potential security threat, British authorities promptly alerted their Spanish counterparts as the flight was destined for Menorca. In response, the Spanish Ministry of Defence dispatched a Eurofighter to escort the plane, suspecting the British passenger of being a terrorist. Thanks to his idiotic actions Aditya recently found himself

in Spain’s National Court, facing accusations of public disorder and a lawsuit from the Ministry of Defence demanding reimbursement of the €94,782.47 incurred for deploying the Eurofighter. In his defence, Aditya claimed the message was intended as a joke, explaining that his friends had often ridiculed him due to his Pakistani heritage. He told the court that he never anticipated the prank would escalate to such an extent and insisted he shared the photo only with his close circle. Speaking through an interpreter, Aditya expressed surprise upon spotting the

Eurofighter from the plane and said that he believed it to be part of a training exercise related to the conflict in Ukraine. During the proceedings, the prosecutor questioned Aditya’s lack of consideration for the potential fear he might cause, citing the Spanish Penal Code, which punishes individuals who “falsely simulate a situation of danger to the community” requiring police or emergency services intervention. As the testimonies concluded, the trial is now awaiting sentencing, leaving Aditya’s fate in the hands of the Spanish legal system.

GBP / EUR UPDATE GBP The GBP/EUR rate reached a 2024 high of 1.1735 this week, a four-month high and in line with levels not seen since September 2023. This is less than half a cent below the currency pair’s annual high of 1.1780 in 2023, which could be attractive to euro buyers. Sterling dollar has seen little movement so far this year and has remained rangebound around 1.27 levels. This may be shaped, in part, by contrasting data that came out last week. It has been a quiet week for economic data in the UK, with only this month’s Manufacturing and Services Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) figures released on Wednesday. Data came in higher than expected for both metrics. Markets expected a slight improvement from the Services data, which was anticipated to come in at 53.2 (above the critical level of 50). However, the data revealed a stronger upturn in private sector output than expected, landing at 53.8. The UK’s Manufacturing PMI is still lagging below the 50 threshold but came in above the anticipated 46.7 at 47.3. As a result, the Flash UK PMI Composite Output Index (which combines Manufacturing and Services) reached a seven-month high of 52.5, up from 52.1 in December. The improvements in these indicators could positively impact the overall economic outlook, which could strengthen the Pound. There was some indication of this in the aftermath of the PMI release, as GBP saw some strength against the dollar before pulling back following the release of solid PMIs in the US.

Next week, the Federal Reserve and the Bank of England will hold their monetary policy meetings on Wednesday 31st January and Thursday 1st February, respectively.

EUR The Interbank rate EUR/USD was almost 1.11 at the turn of the year, representing the highest levels for the currency pair since last July. However, since then, it has seen continued losses and has now fallen as low as 1.08. The lowest level we saw for EUR/USD in 2023 was in September, when it dropped to 1.04. This could show the single currency can fall further if the trend continues. After a quiet week last week, this week saw more significant releases. On Wednesday, the Manufacturing and Services Purchasing Managers Index data for France and Germany were released. Markets expected very gentle improvements in France and Germany’s manufacturing and services sectors. In reality, although both countries’ Manufacturing PMIs increased more than expected, with Germany’s figure landing at 45.4, above the expected 43.7, and France’s at 43.2, ahead of 42.5, both of the Services PMIs were lower than anticipated. Germany’s Service PMI dropped to 47.6 from 49.3 in December (which was also expected this month), while France’s came in at 45.0, below the anticipated 46.1 and the 45.7 measured in December. Despite the Manufacturing PMI data improvements, the figures remain below the key 50 threshold, indicating contraction in the industries.

Bigastro family denounce the health center The family of a 26-year-old young man who died on Saturday 13th January, due to an acute myocardial infarction, has reported possible malpractice at the Bigastro Health Center where this young man was treated an hour earlier. The family, which is awaiting the assignment of a court-appointed lawyer, explains that the boy went to the Bigastro health center with severe dry pain in the chest accompanied by nausea and pain in the arm, an episode that had occurred that same morning. suffered, although not as acute. The family alleges that they did a light examination and discharged him with a diagnosis of muscle pain. Just twenty minutes later, the young man collapsed in his room, where he lost consciousness and began to convulse, going into cardiac arrest. The family points out that the emergency services arrived half an hour after he fainted, despite resuscitation maneuvers the young man ended up dying. The family considers that the young man probably did not undergo the correct examination at the health center and, therefore, is going to report the case. This medium has contacted the Emergency Information and Coordination Center (CICU) which indicates that the warning call came in at 5:20 p.m. and they activated a SAMU that arrived at the young man’s home at 5:39 p.m. While the Emergency team arrived, the SAMU coordinating doctor was in contact with a family member to whom she insisted on the importance of performing

chest compressions on the boy. A few minutes later the Local Police arrived and, at that moment, the family member hung up the phone and contact was lost, and the SAMU arrived at the scene. As Vegabajadigital.com has learned, the Ministry of Health has opened an internal information file to clarify the facts and find out what exactly happened. Below we provide the statement from the family and relatives: A 26-year-old young man dies in the municipality of Bigastro due to an acute myocardial infarction after possible malpractice at his local Health Center. The young man felt unwell on the afternoon of Saturday, January 13, and told his parents that he was going to “go out for some fresh air because he felt bad.” At around 4:46 p.m., he felt the need to go to the health center, alleging severe dry pain in his chest accompanied by nausea and pain in his arm, an episode that he had suffered that same morning, although not as severe. After being treated and still in the health center, he vomited. After a slight examination, which probably did not correspond to the acute chest pain protocol, he was diagnosed with muscle pain and subsequently discharged home. After this, she walks 200 meters from the health center to her house. At 5:20 p.m., just twenty minutes after being discharged, the family called the Emergency Service because of fainting. The 26-year-old collapsed in his room where he lost consciousness and began to convulse, going into cardiac arrest. His 14-year-old sister, upon hearing the loud bang,

Fugitive arrested hiding in a house in Cabo Roig

Agents of the National Police have arrested a 38-year-old man of Spanish nationality, having seven judicial injunctions in force and having been fleeing from justice for two years using the identity of another person. An investigation carried out by specialized agents of the National Police led them to the whereabouts of a known criminal who had seven legal complaints in force and who was hiding in a house located in Cabo Roig de Orihuela using the identity of another person.

After the pertinent judicial authorization, an entry and search of the home was carried out, locating inside, in addition to the now detained person, a gun, two large knives, tools and material used to commit home robberies, a drone with a camera, several jewels and 4000 euros in cash. The detained man has various criminal records committed previously, having been arrested up to eight times, being considered by the agents to be very aggressive and

dangerous. Among the different jewels seized, the agents have been able to determine the origin of one of them, this one coming from a robbery that took place in a home in Cartagena. The investigation remains open to try to determine the origin of the rest of the jewelry found. The person responsible for the events, once arrested, was placed at the disposal of the Orihuela Guard Court for the adoption of the appropriate precautionary measures.

Caja Rural Central grants New positions for local police officers 20,000 euros to students The municipality of Benejúzar will soon have two new positions for local police officers. The mayor added that “this government team has tried to find a solution as effectively and quickly as possible”. Cases has informed that it is planned to convene “very soon” the procedure to fill the position

Caja Rural Central, as part of its social work, has awarded four scholarships for a total of 20,000 euros to the Diocesan Foundation of San José Obrero in Orihuela. These scholarships will support four students from unstructured families or at risk of social exclusion, who are in boarding school, covering their reception and training expenses throughout the year. general director of CRC, Víctor Guillén and its president, Manuel Ruiz, among others. For his part, the director of the San José Obrero Diocesan Foundation, Rev. Mr. Francisco Javier Olivares, has thanked the

extra contribution of Caja Rural’s social work, which allows it to maintain its educational and reception work for minors at risk of social exclusion in the province. of chief officer of the Local Police, which was already vacant in a previous procedure initiated in 2007. The mayor pointed out that “we have already sent the document proposing the bases to the Valencian Institute of Public Safety in December, to check that everything is correct, and we are awaiting their approval in order to start the process”. Likewise, “we are also planning to create a second post by reorganising the council’s job descriptions for reasons of necessity, converting one of the posts available after the retirement of two municipal administrative staff,” he explained. Cases also referred to the fact that this increase in the number of staff is due to the need to have sufficient personnel and to

be able to offer a good service to the public, both at night and on public holidays. This issue will be addressed by reinforcing the service “through better paid overtime, always with the willingness of the agents, and complying at all times with labour regulations,” he explained. In this way, the mayor highlighted the recent salary increase for the council’s civil servants in all categories.a Cases concluded by stating that “we are thus initiating a process of growth of the Local Police throughout 2024, and that as long as the replacement rate of officers allows us to do so, we will continue to expand with all the personnel necessary to ensure the protection and safety of all the people of Benejuela”.

low-cost carrier, Ryanair is renowned for its affordable ticket prices. The opening of a base in Murcia is expected to intensify competition in the region, potentially leading to lower airfares and more budget-friendly travel options for passengers. 4. Tourism Boost: Murcia, already known for its stunning landscapes, historical sites, and vibrant culture, is likely to experience a surge in tourism. The increased accessibility provided by Ryanair’s new base will attract travelers seeking an affordable and convenient way to explore the beauty of the region.

Ryanair’s Perspective: In a statement, Ryanair’s CEO, Michael O’Leary, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion into Murcia. Second edition of Orihuela Carnival Parade set to celebrate The Orihuela carnival celebration is set to continue under the new government leadership, as confirmed by the Council on Wednesday. The Carnival parade, initially initiated by the previous municipal government, is gearing up for its second edition scheduled for February 9 at 6:30 p.m. The parade’s route will closely resemble last year’s, commencing on C/Alfonso XIII, proceeding along Avda Teodomiro, and concluding at Glorieta. Participants will largely mirror those from the previous year, featuring numerous music and dance academies from the municipality. These academies, adorned in vibrant costumes, are expected to inject a colorful vibe into the festivities. Notable participants include la Escuela Municipal de Danza, la Asociación Acamdo, la Academia Óscar y Ángela, la Academia Ana Belén Navarro, and el Centro Acción. Gonzalo Montoya (Vox), the councillor, emphasized the significance of the parade and its positive reception the previous year. He stated, “These events undoubtedly contribute to the dynamic commercial activity and serve as a new tourist attraction for the city. Additionally, they showcase the extraordinary work carried

out by our dance schools and academies.” Former Tourism councillor María García (PSOE) expressed her delight on social media, stating, “Orihuela will have a Carnival again, and I am thrilled to have been the original promoter. Last year’s success was met with great enthusiasm from society and commerce, and I hope this year will see a similar triumph.” Moving ahead, the Orihuela Costa Carnival is set to take place on February 17, organized by local residents. A total of 27 troupes have confirmed their participation, including four invited troupes from Torrevieja and Pilar de la Horadada. The remaining troupes comprise schools, dance academies, the IES Playa Flamenca, the Civic Centre, the AMPAs, neighborhood associations, and representatives of different

nationalities. The parade will wind its way around Playa Flamenca and Los Dolses. While there are uncertainties about financial support from the municipality, the council has committed to providing a stage and music. Sponsors are also stepping in, with coastal businessmen expressing interest in supporting events both in the city and on the coast, as shared by Rosa Cárcamo, president of the Orihuela Costa Festival Commission. Furthermore, on Sunday, March 17, the Irish Community will bring joy and color to the coast with the X1 St Patrick’s Day Parade through the streets of Cabo Roig. In the final planning stages, this event is expected to attract thousands of visitors, including many from Ireland, solidifying its reputation as one of the premier St Patrick’s Day Parades in Europe.

You are welcome to attend. “How to manage Gmail Folders (Labels)?” Most email service providers have a folder system. But Gmail is different. Instead of folders, it has something called Labels.

Labels are like tags that you can add to any email you receive or send. They’re similar to folders. Except that in a conventional folder system, you can only assign each email to one folder. In Gmail, however, you can add multiple labels to a single email. The first step of your journey is to create a custom Gmail folder. You can do that from your computer, or your phone: On Desktop there are many ways to create Gmail folders from your computer. In this guide, we’ll show you the easiest one. All it takes is 3 simple steps. Step 1: Sign in to your Gmail account. Step 2: Click on the + icon in the sidebar menu. Step 3: Enter the name of your new folder and click on Create. And done. Your new folder will now appear in the Gmail sidebar. You can start adding emails to that folder right away. On Android to modify labels on your Android device’s Gmail app, follow these steps: 1. Launch the Gmail app on your Android phone or tablet. 2. Open a Gmail conversation. 3. Tap the More icon located at the top right corner of the

screen. 4. Select Change labels from the menu. 5. Add or remove labels as needed. 6. Tap OK to save the change. “How to add a Digital Certificate to a Mobile phone?” To get your Digital Certificate on your Mobile Phone. At the appointment at my local Ayuntamiento, I was told I needed to “Export” the link to the Digital Certificate from my computer. This was in the form of a PDF file. I attached that PDF file to an email and saved it as a draft. I opened the email on my phone and the “package installer” installed the digital certificate. “Can I use Office 365 Apps without a subscription?” Office 365 Online is free to use and download as long you are online when you use it. Search for “Office 365 online”. You will be asked to sign into your Microsoft account to be able to use the Apps including Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Brian Hoile, Technology Help Group

Does drinking alcohol ca se infla ation Before you reach for another drink, learn how alcohol contributes to chronic inflammation Whether you enjoy a glass of wine with dinner from time to time or regularly spend nights out drinking with friends, you may wonder how alcohol consumption impacts your health. Do you need to cut back or eliminate alcohol to promote good health? One of the main ways alcohol can impact your body is by contributing to inflammation. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy a drink here and there. Learn the connection between alcohol and inflammation, how to reduce chronic inflammation, and how much alcohol is generally safe to consume without triggering inflammation.

What’s Inflammation? Inflammation is a normal and natural part of your body’s defense system. If you get a cut or have an infection, acute inflammation occurs. It’s your body’s way of eliminating something it detects as harmful so you can begin to heal. Yet, it’s considered chronic inflammation when

inflammation lasts a few months to a few years. Chronic inflammation is a major contributor to various chronic diseases. According to StatPearls, these include: Cardiovascular diseases • Cancer • Diabetes • Rheumatoid arthritis • Allergic asthma • Chronic obstructive pAlzheimer’s disease • Chronic kidney disease (CKD) • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)

How Does Alcohol Contribute to Inflammation? Leads to Producing Inflammatory Compounds Studies have shown that when your body breaks down alcohol, a bunch of inflammatory compounds are produced. “As alcohol gets broken down by the body, it leaves behind some byproducts that can cause damage to the gut, the liver and other organs. This damage triggers an inflammatory response in the body,” says Diana Mesa, RDN, LDN, CDCES, founder of En La Mesa Nutrition.

First bowel cancer vaccine on the horizon as NHS doctors trial the jab In a significant leap forward in the fight against bowel cancer, the National Health Service (NHS) is currently conducting trials for the world’s first-ever bowel cancer vaccine. The potential breakthrough offers hope for a future where prevention may play a crucial role in reducing the incidence of this deadly disease. If successful, the vaccine could be available to the public within the next two years, marking a historic moment in the realm of cancer prevention and treatment. Background: Bowel cancer, also known as colorectal cancer, is one of the most prevalent forms of cancer globally. According to the World Cancer Research Fund, it is the third most common cancer, affecting millions of people every year. Early detection and treatment have been the primary focus in combating this disease, but a preventative approach has long been sought after. The Vaccine Development: The innovative vaccine currently under trial by NHS doctors aims to stimulate the immune system to recognize and destroy cancerous cells in the bowel before they develop into a full-fledged tumor. Unlike traditional cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy, which target existing cancer cells, this vaccine focuses on prevention at a cellular level.

The vaccine is designed to trigger the body’s immune response by introducing specific antigens associated with bowel cancer. By training the immune system to identify and attack these antigens, the hope is to create a robust defense mechanism against the development of cancerous cells. If successful, the vaccine could offer a groundbreaking method for preventing bowel cancer, complementing existing screening and treatment protocols. Clinical Trials and Progress: The NHS clinical trials for the bowel cancer vaccine are currently in their early stages, with a focus on assessing the safety and efficacy of the treatment. Initial results are promising, indicating that the vaccine is well-tolerated and capable of generating the desired immune response in trial participants. The trials involve a diverse group of participants, including individuals with a family history of bowel cancer, those at higher risk due to lifestyle factors, and a control group. Rigorous testing and monitoring are essential to ensuring the vaccine’s safety and effectiveness across various demographics. Potential Impact on Public Health: If the trials continue to show positive results, the first bowel cancer vaccine could be available to the public within

When you think about giving your skin the care and nourishment that it needs, the first thing that likely comes to mind is a well-balanced skin care routine. While the right combination of skin care products is a great place to start, there are other ways to amp up your routine and one major (and fun) way to do so is with a facial. This skin treatment has become standard practice in the beauty community for its many benefits that cater to your skin and wellness. Similar to skin care products, you can choose from various types of facials to address each of your skin care concerns. If you’re ready to treat yourself or want to add a new service to your dedicated skin care routine look towards facials as the pick-me-up your skin deserves. Below, learn about a different facial treatment

available at Indiana’s hair & lash boutique to help lock down the right one. What Is a Facial? A facial is a popular wellness and skin care practice that provides a relaxing experience while thoroughly cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing the skin with specific tools, techniques and products. All facials are non-invasive or minimally invasive since they don’t require penetrating the skin deeply. Many facials can resurface the skin with needles, lasers and chemicals (aka chemical peels), however, they’re all gentle enough for in-office treatment without downtime. So you can get a facial in the morning and still meet up with friends for lunch (your skin may be a little red depending on the type of facial). Which Type of Facial Is Best? Ultimately, the best type of facial that

the next two years. This development would mark a paradigm shift in the approach to cancer, highlighting the significance of prevention alongside early detection and treatment. The potential impact on public health is immense, as a successful vaccine could significantly reduce the incidence of bowel cancer and alleviate the burden on healthcare

systems worldwide. Moreover, the vaccine could pave the way for similar preventive strategies against other types of cancer, opening new possibilities in the ongoing battle against this devastating disease. Conclusion: The ongoing trials of the first bowel cancer vaccine represent a beacon of hope in the fight against colorectal cancer. While the full

implications of this groundbreaking development are yet to be realized, the prospect of a preventive vaccine is undoubtedly a significant stride toward a future where cancer is not only treatable but preventable. As the world watches the progress of these trials, the potential for a new era in cancer prevention looms on the horizon.

can’t go wrong with a classic facial. Known as a one-shot deal that tackles most of your skin care needs, this facial treatment combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction (removing blemishes like blackheads safely) and hydration into one treatment to help you beautify your complexion. An excellent option for those who want an introduction to the world of facials, this treatment will most likely be listed as a traditional, basical or classic facial on a treatment menu. During your appointment, we choose products made specifically for your skin type in order to give you a customized treatment .This facial lasts anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and doesn’t have any downtime since it’s not invasive (except for any scraping tools used to gently extract any blackheads).

When Is the Best Time to Get a Facial? You should get a facial whenever you start noticing skin concerns that your skin care alone can’t tackle. It’s also wise to get regular facials to combat concerns before they appear. If your complexion is lacking hydration or appearing dull, get a facial. If you want to try a non-invasive option for signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles, get a facial. And if you’ve had an extra stressful day at work or school and need to feel refreshed, get a facial. Truly, there is no specific time that you need to get a facial, but for the best benefits consider making facials a monthly part of your skin care routine for an added pick-me-up.

The hidden threat: Toxic Metals health risks, including an increased likelihood of cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and certain cancers. Additionally, early menopause may impact a woman’s overall well-being and quality of life.

In recent years, concerns about environmental pollutants have grown exponentially, with researchers uncovering alarming links between exposure to toxic substances and various health issues. A groundbreaking study has now shed light on the potential connection between toxic metals found in drinking water, dark chocolate, and vegetables, and the accelerated aging of women’s ovaries, potentially leading to earlier menopause. The implications of these findings underscore the importance of understanding and addressing the impact of environmental factors on women’s reproductive health.

Recommendations and Future Research: In light of these findings, there is a pressing need for further research to explore the specific mechanisms through which toxic metals affect ovarian aging. Additionally, regulatory bodies must establish and enforce strict guidelines for permissible levels of these metals in drinking water, food products, and agricultural practices. Public awareness campaigns are crucial to inform individuals about potential risks and encourage them to make informed choices regarding their diet and water sources.

Toxic Metals and Ovarian Aging: The study, conducted by a team of researchers from reputable institutions, delved into the levels of toxic metals in various common sources of consumption. The metals in focus included lead, cadmium, and arsenic, known for their detrimental effects on human health. The study aimed to examine their influence on ovarian aging, a crucial factor in women’s reproductive health. 1. Drinking Water: Water, a fundamental component of daily life, is expected to be pure and safe for consumption. However, the study discovered that water sources in certain regions contained elevated levels of toxic metals. Prolonged exposure to lead and cadmium through drinking water was associated with a notable acceleration in ovarian aging, potentially hastening the onset

of menopause. 2. Dark Chocolate: Often hailed for its antioxidant properties and potential health benefits, dark chocolate has now come under scrutiny due to its metal content. The study revealed that dark chocolate can be a source of lead and cadmium, and regular consumption may contribute to an increased risk

of ovarian aging in women. This revelation urges consumers to be mindful of their chocolate intake and opt for products with lower metal concentrations. 3. Vegetables: Vegetables, a cornerstone of a healthy diet, were also implicated in the study. The presence of arsenic in certain vegetables was linked to

accelerated ovarian aging. Arsenic exposure through vegetable consumption, particularly in regions with contaminated soil, may pose a significant risk to women’s reproductive health. Implications for Women’s Health: The findings of this study are of particular concern for women, as early menopause is associated with various

Conclusion: The discovery of toxic metals in drinking water, dark chocolate, and vegetables as potential contributors to accelerated ovarian aging underscores the intricate relationship between environmental factors and reproductive health in women. This study serves as a clarion call for heightened awareness, research, and regulatory measures to mitigate the impact of toxic substances on women’s well-being. As we delve deeper into the complex interplay between our environment and health, it becomes imperative to prioritize the safeguarding of reproductive health for the benefit of current and future generations.

The importance of facial cleansing Although I loved my partner when I was 16, I now see all the drawbacks that my parents warned me about. He is 13 years my senior, workshy, lacks responsibility and relies on me to do everything. Most of his income goes on his daughter from a previous relationship; he is an alcoholic, and contributes very little financially to our partnership. I wonder now, whether he targeted me for the express purpose of finding someone who would take him on. I was young and naïve. I’ve invested everything in this relationship; working overtime and more shifts to pay for us to be together. I realise, that I may have left the relationship sooner, if my parents hadn’t been so against it; I dug my heels in. Now I feel trapped, because they will both say that they told me so.

To hold a grudge against your parents; who will say they told you so, is not worth staying in a relationship you hate. Thankfully, you have not had children with this man. You are free to leave and start afresh. Don’t waste another 10 years of your life, just to prove your parents wrong. You don’t have to say they were right, but that your relationship has come to a natural end, and you are moving on. I counsel many parents who object to their children’s romantic relationships. Rather than battle against something you cannot change; acceptance is the key - most times children will see sense eventually, but they have to reach that conclusion by themselves; it’s their life.

Our skin is exposed to a myriad of environmental pollutants, makeup, and natural oils throughout the day. These factors can lead to the accumulation of dirt, bacteria, and dead skin cells on the skin’s surface. Facial cleansing plays a crucial role in removing these impurities, preventing clogged pores, and reducing the risk of acne and other skin issues. Additionally, a clean canvas allows skincare products to penetrate more effectively, maximizing their benefits. Methods of Facial Cleansing: 1. Cleansing Balms and Oils: • Ideal for removing stubborn makeup and sunscreen. • Gently melts away impurities without stripping the skin of its natural oils. • Suitable for all skin types, especially those with dry or sensitive skin. 2. Gel Cleansers: • Formulated with water-based ingredients. • Effective in removing excess oil and debris. • Ideal for individuals with oily or combination skin.

3. Foaming Cleansers: • Produce a rich lather that deeply cleanses the skin. • Best suited for individuals with normal to oily skin. • Helps control excess oil production. 4. Micellar Water:

• A gentle and hydrating option. • Effectively lifts away impurities without the need for rinsing. • Suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. The Science Behind Facial Cleansing: Understanding the science behind facial cleansing involves recognizing the skin’s natural barrier and the impact of the skin microbiome. The skin’s barrier consists of a delicate balance of oils, known as the lipid barrier, which helps retain moisture and protect against external aggressors. Harsh cleansers can disrupt this balance, leading to dryness, irritation, and an overproduction of oil as the skin tries to compensate. Moreover, the skin is home to a diverse ecosystem of microorganisms collectively

known as the skin microbiome. This community of bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms plays a vital role in maintaining skin health. Gentle cleansing ensures that the microbiome remains balanced, fostering an environment conducive to healthy skin. Conclusion: Facial cleansing is not just a routine task; it is an art and a science. Tailoring your cleansing method to your skin type and understanding the delicate balance of the skin’s natural barrier and microbiome are essential for achieving optimal skin health. By incorporating a thoughtful and effective cleansing routine into your daily skincare regimen, you pave the way for a radiant complexion and a foundation for the rest of your skincare products to work their magic.

Additional radar speed traps set for installation

Over the past two decades, Spain has witnessed a gradual decrease in road accidents, coinciding with a notable rise in the deployment of speed cameras. The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) is now set to amplify its arsenal of mobile speed detectors, attributing significant efficacy to these devices. As revealed in the tender notice,

sourced by Servimedia and published in the Official State Gazette (BOE), the DGT is slated to allocate more than 1.2 million euros for the acquisition of 15 mobile radars. Designed for versatility, these mobile speedometers offer the flexibility of speed monitoring within Guardia Civil Traffic cars or at stationary positions using tripods,

whether the vehicles are in motion or stationary. Individually priced at approximately 78,000 euros, the DGT justifies procuring 15 units as replacements for those rendered obsolete or subject to irreparable breakdowns. Comprising dynamic speeddetection capabilities, a preinstallation device, sensors, cameras, processing units, flash systems, mechanical fastenings, tripods, and tablet computers, these radars will be categorized as light or heavy based on the minimum length required to differentiate between trucks and passenger automobiles, acknowledging diverse boundaries

that must be adhered to. Crucially, these mobile devices are mandated to identify the presence of vehicles traversing the measurement area, spanning up to six lanes in both directions simultaneously or individually. The DGT has strategically altered its approach to speed control, notably increasing the deployment of radars on secondary roads. Mobile devices are particularly effective in this context, allowing for dynamic and static usage. Excluding Catalonia and the Basque Country, the DGT presently operates 355 active radars at fixed points measuring instantaneous

speeds, with an additional 64 in sections designed for average speed measurement. Over the next three years, these figures are anticipated to surge with the installation of 150 new speedometers, 60% of which will be sectional, while the remainder will be fixed. In conjunction with these installations, an additional 325 mobile radars are managed by agents of the Traffic Group of the Guardia Civil (ATGC). Furthermore, the DGT’s Air Resources Unit employs 11 helicopters equipped with Pegasus radars for aerial surveillance and control, fortifying their comprehensive approach to road safety.

Pedestrians in Spain risking nes Using a pedestrian crossing in Spain while the signal for pedestrians is red can result in a fine of 200 euros. According to the law, a static pedestrian signal serves as a non-flashing red light, instructing individuals not to initiate the crossing until the light turns green. Despite being an offense, such violations are infrequently penalized. Law enforcement steps in when pedestrians not only disobey the signal

but also pose a clear risk to themselves or traffic, such as crossing while engrossed in a mobile phone. Spanish legislation further outlines pedestrian conduct on roads, indicating that individuals may face penalties for not walking on the left side of the road or on rural roads lacking sidewalks. The rationale behind this rule is to ensure that pedestrians maintain visibility of approaching vehicles, with potential

fines amounting to 80 euros. Moreover, pedestrians are prohibited from walking on motorways or dual carriageways, with an associated penalty of 80 euros. Crossing in areas other than designated pedestrian crossings, crossing at an unhurried pace for no apparent reason, and improper crossing in low visibility conditions are also offenses, each carrying an 80-euro fine.

Around 70 events announced in the 2024 sports calendar The Department of Sports Council of the City of Torrevieja has presented at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) Sports Calendar, consisting of nearly 70 events of various disciplines, international, national and regional, as well as international campuses, putting in value the city as a sports tourism destination. The presentation was attended by The presentation of the Women’s Pre-Olympic Handball Championship, which will take place in April of this year, also took place in the central square of the stand of Turisme de la Comunitat Valenciana. The “warriors” return to Torrevieja to obtain the ticket that takes them to dispute the Olympic Games of summer that will develop in the city of Paris. A pre-Olympic to be held at the Palacio de Deportes “Tavi and Carmona” from 11 to 14 April, and that will dispute major world-class teams like the Netherlands, Czech Republic and Argentina. Only two of these four teams will qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris. This event has been presented by the vice-president and councillor, Vicente Barrera, and the general director of Sports, Luis Cervera. They have intervened the president of the Real Spanish Federation of Handball (RFEB), Francisco Blázquez; as well as the mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón.

“That Torrevieja is the headquarters of a qualifier for the Olympic Games is no coincidence, but demonstrates the great work that the city did during the historic world of women’s handball. Reason for the IHF to trust again in the salinera city. In addition to being a talisman for our warriors,” were the words of the president of the RFEB, Francisco Blázquez in his speech. Eduardo Dolon has highlighted the union that Torrevieja and handball have, especially with the RFEB and the IHF. “We are grateful for the trust that the IHF and the Royal Spanish Handball Federation have placed in our

city, demonstrating the capacity that Torrevieja has to organise international sporting events. In addition, has been present the Councillor for Tourism, Nuria Montes, the vice president of the RFEB, Blas Parrilla, and the Councillor for Sports of the City of Torrevieja and vice president of the RFEB, Diana Box. The Sports Agenda, which is composed of nearly 70 events that will take place in the Sports City of Torrevieja during this year 2024 include, for the first time, the Championship of Spain Pump Track, which will take place between 3 and

4 November, as well as the Unbroken Race that will host the city during the 16 and 17 February. Continuing with the international events, the Councillor for Sports, Diana Box Alonso, presented the International Fit Model to be held from 28 to 29 October. The Torrevieja International Cup will once again bring together thousands of athletes of all categories in sports such as volleyball (from 22 to 25 June), men’s and women’s football (from 1 to 4 July -only women-, and from 27 June to 30 June -only men-), and indoor football (from 4 to 7 July).

Abbey Anglers On Tuesday the 23rd of January we fished the 4th round of the Abbey Angling cup at the El Bosquet complex at Crevillent. After a chilly start the match was fished in warm sunny conditions but true to form the quality of the fishing did not quite match the weather conditions. I personally think that the fishing is suffering from the very changeable temperatures that we are getting at the moment and this seems to be putting the fish off the feed.
