New houses will be built on unspoilt Cala Mosca
it looks like today will be a sad day for the coast as orihuela council’s governing board is set to approve the construction of up to 2,200 homes at
Cala Mosca. this is despite sustained opposition from environmentalists and residents.
the controversial plans by the
Gomendio group to build on the last piece of unspoilt coastline in orihuela Costa have faced opposition on several levels including infrastructure and environmental concerns. however, a revised proposal by Gomendio, which includes an expanded protected
microreserve area for the cat head plant and a reduction in the number of holiday homes to be built, was submitted for public consultation in February.
last year, orihuela Mayor Carolina Gracia had attempted to get Gomendio to move to another site but the
proposal was refused. Following a positive environmental impact study commissioned by the Valencian government, opponents of the Cala Mosca urbanisation were left with few options. despite her opposition to the development,Carolina Gracia has confirmed that she cannot refuse to submit the project to the governing board for approval after technical reports found no grounds to block it. the new submission also includes a report from the General Secretariat that obliges compliance to ensure sufficient water resources to guarantee the supply of drinking water in all plots of the urbanisation plan. additionally, orihuela council would have been liable for compensation payments of up to €200 million payable to the developer if they tried to block the project, effectively bankrupting the administration. Work on the development of alameda del Mar is expected to start next month.
Pressure from the developer the Mayor said: “ the pSoe has never liked this project, and it still does not like it today. But as Mayor, i have the obligation to include it in the governing body because if not, the one who incurs patrimonial responsibility will be the City Council because there is no reason that prevents us from continuing with the administrative file. no one in their right mind would risk or mortgage the orihuela City Council for a decision that cannot be legally upheld and with documents in hand. none of the threats and pressure that the company’s lawyer has applied to me asMayor has anything to do with this decision.”

Councillor removed from office
Four arrested in Torrevieja for fraud
the two cases being investigated into the Councillor for Citizens in the orihuela City Council, Ángel noguera, are the straw that broke the camel’s back for the Mayor of orihuela, Carolina Gracia.
the Mayor’s office has now revoked the powers of office of the Councillor Ángel noguera in matters of infrastructure, Services, Works and Maintenance. these duties will be assumed by Carolina Gracia herself. noguera is immersed in two judicial investigations, one for alleged continued prevarication regarding the maintenance of the coastal roads and another for the management of the parks and Gardens contract also in orihuela Costa.
national police officers have arrested four men between the ages of 43 and 76 in torrevieja, Murcia and Molina de Segura as the alleged perpetrators of a crime of fraud. the crimes were reported against a packaging and packaging products company located in Zamora.
according to the investigation, those arrested, who are all of Spanish nationality, allegedly made a series of orders from the Zamora company for a value of 12,000 euros and later refused to make the corresponding payment, alleging that they had not requested anything.
the police operation started when the company’s management reported
the alleged crime. according to the report, a person contacted the business on behalf of another interested party in placing an order. after several telephone conversations and emails, they finalised the shipment of a first pallet with specific packaging material valued at more than 7,000 euros, to then place a second order, this time valued at more than 5,000 euros.
When the company sent the corresponding invoices for the material sent to the company that had supposedly placed order, the latter denied having made any type of order, let alone having received it, blocking payment of the amounts owed. as a result, the national police
began an investigation that led them to a parcel delivery company located in Molina de Segura, wherethey identified the alleged perpetrators of the crimes, as well as the recovery of the fraudulent material, which was stored in two industrial warehouses located in the Murcian district of Casillas and in the municipality of torre pacheco, where raids and searches were made. national police officers arrested the alleged criminals in Murcia, Molina de Segura and torrevieja and forwarded the case to the court for prosecution.

Police bust local gang
the Civil Guard’s operation herramor has resulted in the arrest of 3 people for the theft of vehicles and their use in numerous criminal acts in the provinces of alicante and Murcia. those arrested have been charged with the crimes of belonging to a criminal gang, robbery with violence and intimidation, robbery with forced entry, motor vehicle theft and document falsification. a total of 11 of the recovered vehicles have been returned to their owners. two of the gang have been released and leader has been sentenced to prison.
Following investigations carried out by officers from almoradí, police identified the existence of an organised group dedicated to the theft of vehicles for later use in other criminal acts. the gang operated in the alicante towns of daya Vieja, San Fulgencio, pilar de la horadada and elche, in addition to others in the region of Murcia such as torre pacheco, el raal, San Javier or los alcázares.
the investigators revealed that the criminals moved to the chosen location, and located the vehicle of interest, stole it and then parked it in a public parking lot in nearby town. they would return after several days and use it in their planned robberies.
the vehicles were used to carry out thefts by the method know to police as “moon
landing” the gang would falsify the vehicles documentation and transfer the car to Morocco and sell it as a ‘clean’ vehicle.
the gang carried out its first robberies in warehouses dedicated to the construction businesses and then in private homes, where they took the opportunity to steal any vehicles they came across. as the criminals became more confident in their crimes, the amount of violence escalated to the point where they were using firearms or bladed weapons.
Civil Guard officers raided a clandestine workshop in the town of elche, where two of the accused were arrested, and recoveredstolen goods worth 12,000 euros, 2,000 euros in cash, numerous license plates, different documentation for the

Inflation brings tough times for local families
a recent study conducted by the organisation of Consumers and Users in Spain has revealed that 14 percent of households in the Valencian Community are facing serious economic difficulties due to high inflation. the report indicates that inflation has worsened the pandemic’s impact on domestic income.
the study surveyed 4,122 Spanish residents aged between 25 and 79 years, including 373 from the Valencian Community. the average national figure for serious economic problems is 11 percent, with the Valencian
Community ranked the third-highest region behind andalucia and extremadura.
according to the survey, 73 percent of households in the Valencian Community have struggled to save money over the past year, while the percentage of families experiencing difficulty making ends meet has risen from 4 percent in 2020 to 14 percent in 2022.
the study revealed that families found it particularly challenging to pay electricity, gas, and water bills (53 percent), purchase fresh food such as meat and fish (48
percent), fruits and vegetables (42 percent), and basic foods such as bread, pasta, rice, oil, and dairy (40 percent). a lack of money is also impacting health expenses, such as visiting the dentist (49 percent).
to alleviate the financial burden on low-income families,
the oCU is calling for increased direct aid to vulnerable consumers, particularly those with unemployed parents and children. as of 18thapril, lowincome families in the Valencian Community can apply for a €90 shopping bonus card to use in regional supermarkets and grocery shops.
Cruzcampo to be served in UK
heineken UK has announced that the popular Spanish lager, Cruzcampo, is now available in the UK. expats who now live back in the UK are excited about the news, and it is expected to draw in consumers looking for a “premium product at an affordable price”.
the number one draft beer in Spain is an authentic and high-quality beer that offers
consumers a refreshing taste of Spain at an affordable price. recent figures show that Spanish lager has grown 73 percent in the premium and mainstream lager category in the UK, with one in five lagers served now being Spanish.
Christopher Buckwell, the senior brand manager, said the launch presents a “nice opportunity” for operators to offer consumers something
that feels like a treat but is more affordable. heineken UK will be supporting pubs and bars looking to stock Cruzcampo with ‘point of sale’ material as well as a multi-million-pound campaign that includes social media and t V adverts. there will also be a competition for operators to win everything they need to host a Spanish night at their pub, including food and entertainment.

Police target locals offering ‘taxi’ services
increased surveillance and inspection measures are being carried out by police at alicanteelche airport to clamp down on illegal taxi services, which are putting the livelihoods of licensed cabbies at risk. according to a spokesperson for the elche policia local, these inspections have resulted in spotting numerous cases of illegal passenger transfers to different municipalities in the alicante province. the pandemic and soaring fuel prices have already
impacted the earnings of official taxi drivers, making the emergence of these pirate services even more concerning. drivers found to be transporting people for cash will be fined up to 4,000 euros. in addition to the financial implications, passengers using illegal taxi services are also uninsured in the event of an accident, putting their safety at risk.
local police are fed-up of being told that the driver is picking up friends, family and/or neighbours. When questioned
it becomes obvious that the passengers are being charged for the trip. often the price people charge isn’t too much lower than paying for a legal taxi.
officers recently saw an eclectic group of people getting into a mini-bus, but not chatting or interacting with each other. police found the behaviour odd and approached the vehicle. inside the vehicle officers found business cards labelled ‘airport transfer’ and a bill for illegal airport journeys in the vehicle.
Male stalker changes sex to be tried as a female
in a rare and unprecedented case, a man accused of stalking his ex-partner in alicante has undergone a sex change to be tried as a female under Spain’s new trans law. the defendant is currently under investigation for breaking a restraining order and is facing several trials for alleged gender violence against the same woman. he claims that he cannot be tried for gender violence as he is now legally a woman. however, under the trans law, the crime will be judged based on the legal sex of that person when the offence
was committed. Judicial sources have revealed that the accusations were made when the defendant was a man, but he continued to harass his ex-partner, and mother of their child, even after legally becoming a woman.
the Gender Violence prosecutor delegate of alicante has been left in a difficult position, with the prosecutor having to ask the Supreme Court for guidance on how to proceed with the case. the new legislation, officially named the ‘law for the real and effective equality of trans people and for
the guarantee of lGtBi rights’, was controversially approved by the Spanish parliament on 16th February.
the new law allows people over the age of 16 to change their legal sex without a medical or clinical psychological report accrediting “gender dysphoria” within a four-month period. Spain’s Minister of equality, irene Montero, was in charge of the new law. this unprecedented case highlights the complexity of legal and social issues surrounding gender and gender identity in Spain.
World Parkinson’s Day
World parkinson’s day was celebrated recently to raise awareness of this neurodegenerative disease. parkinson’s is a slowly progressive, degenerative, chronic disease of the central nervous system that affects nerve cells, or neurons, in a part of the brain that controls muscle tone and movement (extrapyramidal system).
it is a complex pathology that presents with a series of motor symptoms (slowness of movement, tremor, rigidity, postural instability) and non-motor symptoms (sleep disorders, constipation, visual, respiratory, urinary, cognitive or psychological problems). this disease usually begins around age 60, but it can appear earlier.
a total of 20,459 people in the
Valencian Community have an active diagnosis of parkinson‘s disease. of these, 7,523 are from alicante province, 2,156 from the province of Castellón and 10,780 from Valencia.
By gender, 52.61 percent (10,763) of patients are women and 47.39 percent (9,696) men. By age groups, the most frequent cases are in people between the ages of 75 and 79 (4,397 patients), followed by the group between 80 and 84 years (4,248 patients), 85 and 89 years (3,316 patients) and 70 and 74 years (2,969 patients), according to the details given by the Ministry of health in a statement.
of the total number of patients with an active diagnosis of parkinson’s disease, 3,408 were newly diagnosed in 2022. By province, 1,338 from
alicante, 318 are from Castellón and 1,752 from Valencia. according to specialists, although parkinson’s is the second most common neurodegenerative pathology after alzheimer’s, in some cases, and due to the mobility disorders that it entails, it can become more disabling. people with parkinson’s require continuous monitoring and care. primary Care teamsphysician, nursing, social workers –work in coordination with teams of specialists involved in helping with the physical, mental and social aspects of the disease.
although there is no cure for parkinson’s disease, it can be treated and there are various drugs that help significantly improve the symptoms and quality of life for each patient.

Get you tax returns in
it’s tax season here in Spain or declaration de la renta which closes on the last working day of June and means you now need to get your annual personal tax declarations submitted. if you’ve overpaid in the calendar year of 2022, you’ll be due something back, but if you’ve underpaid, you’ll need to hand over the difference. For those fortunate enough to be in the first category, the State tax office, hacienda, has until 31st december to pay it to you without adding on any interest. this effectively means that any tax you overpaid in the year 2022 does not legally have to be refunded to you until the day before 2024 starts, and interestfree, which can be frustrating. luckily, the hacienda does not normally stretch it out that long, especially if you get your declaration in early – sometimes, taxpayers get their rebates before May is out.
For those who need to pay to make up a shortfall, you would typically be expected to settle it in a lump sum before the end of June, but as long as you apply to do so before the close of ‘declaration window’, you can arrange to stagger it in several payments. annual tax declarations, in Spain, are not just for the self-employed. almost everyone has to file one, even if they are retired or their income is from nonwork-related activities – but there are some exceptions. You should always seek professional advice if you suspect you may be exempt, since you could be fined if it turns out you should have made a declaration and failed to do so.
in general, tax residents in Spain who do not have to make an annual declaration are those whose income for the whole of the previous calendar year was from just one source, and was less than €22,000 in total. So, if you have a full-time job, and do not earn any money from anything else, then you are normally exempt.
others who do not normally have to file a declaration are those whose total income for the year was below the minimum €14,000 threshold. the exemptions based upon earnings from only one source, or below the minimum €14,000 threshold, also apply to those who have retired from work.
Pensioners and tax
if you are on a State pension from Spain – or you have moved to Spain from another country and get a State pension from your nation of origin – you still have to declare it in Spain unless it is the only income you receive. Given that many countries have company pension schemes as well as State pensions, your income may well be from more than one source after retirement, meaning you are obliged to file a declaration in Spain.
Your declaración de la renta applies to your worldwide earnings if you are resident in Spain, not just money earned on Spanish soil. But some pensions are taxed at source in the country they are paid from – this is often the case with pensions paid by Civil Service, police forces, or the military – or perhaps the contributions
you made to your pension fund over your working life were taxed as you paid them in. as a result, different countries have very different tax systems. Many of them have ‘dual tax agreements’ with other nations, so their authorities share information to make sure you do not
end up having to pay twice on the same income. this does mean, though, that if you live in Spain and your income is from a different country, where the tax you have already paid on that income in that country is lower than you would be liable for in Spain, you will need to
pay the difference to hacienda. on the other hand, with ‘dual tax agreements’ between countries, it could be that the rates you paid for your income from overseas at source are higher than you would be expected to pay in Spain, so you might get a rebate from your previous country.

GBP / EUR UPDATE
GBP
it has been another strong week for the pound, with GBp/USd testing the 1.2500 region once again. the move higher has been all the more noteworthy, given that most of the UK newsflow has been on the negative side. our good friends at the iMF continue to believe that the UK will have the worst performing economy of any G20 country this year, with the economy expected to contract by 0.3%. the figure has been revised sharply higher from the previous semi-annual update from the iMF, an improvement that was not lost on the chancellor, who highlighted that the UK economy has had the biggest upgrade of any major economy from the iMF. the latest growth figures did not really give much away on whether the iMF are in the right place, with last month’s Gdp flatlining, having risen by 0.4% in January. Both industrial and Manufacturing production softened, with the former dropping by 0.2% over the past month, against an expected increase of the same level, and the latter flatlining, having been expected to also jump by around 0.2%. there was some better news on non-eU trade, with the trade Balance dipping from -£7.25B to -£6.5B. Speaking at this week’s iMF meetings, Boe governor Bailey hinted at changes to deposit protection levels (FSCS) for consumers, with increased levels muted. it is a big, big week for UK data next week, with inflation and employment data due. Both headline and core inflation are expected to have declined on an annual basis over the past month, which if true could help to influence the Boe’s outlook on rates. the robust labour market is also expected to persist, with ilo unemployment predicted to remain near the 3.7% region.
EURO
the recent trend of a rising euro has elevated eUr/USd back over 1.1000 this week. as well as being a key psychological level, 1.1000 marked the top of the range for the previous rally, so all eyes will be fixed to see where the single currency goes from here. the upside remains the path of least resistance. the last time that eUr/USd traded over 1.1050 was over a year ago. GBp/eUr has also faltered, despite the stronger pound, reflecting the surging euro. GBp/eUr moved back below 1.1350 earlier in the week, having remained close to 1.1400 for a while. eUr/JpY is also worthy of a mention, with the pair rising sharply to 147.00, given the softening Yen. aside from a broader rally amongst risk assets, which will help to fuel rallies in eUr/USd, much of the rally in eUr/USd has been down to changing rate dynamics between the US and europe. Markets have been reacting to ongoing hawkish messages on rates from the eCB, coupled with growing expectations that the Fed will likely revert to a series of rate cuts before the year end. history tells us that soon after the Fed stop hiking, the rest of the world are likely to follow, but we are not quite at that place yet.
on the data front, the latest German inflation data confirmed the preliminary release, with key harmonized Cpi rising by 7.5% on an annual basis, which came in much lower than the 8.7% increase recorded over the first two months of the year. there was also a decent jump in regional industrial production, which increased by 1.5% during February and 2% annually. looking ahead, both French and Spanish inflation are reported today, with the key regional inflation data out next week. the rest of the week will see the latest German and region-wide ZeW Surveys released, as well as a batch of pMi data.

Until the month of June the natural history Museum has reopened from Friday to Sunday from 10:00 to 13:00 hours, and Friday afternoon from 17:00 to 19:00 hours, for free or guided visits.
the first guided tour of this Spring season began on Frday 14th april and, given the demand for visits, which for the month of april are already being completed, the Councillor for Culture, antonio Quesada, reports that two additional shifts have been enabled to visit the museum, at 10:00 am and 11:30 am, for the general public.

the natural history Museum of torrevieja contains a large representation of the biodiversity of species that surround us, both marine and terrestrial (dolphins, turtles, whales, mollusc shells, bird nests, etc.), some in danger of extinction, others endemic to our area, and others so rare and admired that international experts come to torrevieja to contemplate them.
the department of Culture of the City Council of torrevieja has reopened the Museum of natural history during the
three months of spring for free visits and free guided tours with the collaboration of the headquarters of the University of alicante and the management
I cheated on the father of my three children, with dozens of men - I have always loved the thrill of a new relationship. My partner was a lovely fellow and still is, but I wanted excitement. My life has just been a succession of unsuitable, mainly younger men, who have treated me badly and dumped me after a time. Recently, I dated a guy I met on a dating App; it lasted over a year, he’d been married twice. My friends told me they could see he just wanted a roof over his head, and had no intentions of staying with me. I should have seen the signs; at Christmas he did not want to spend it with me, instead he went to his mother’s for a family Christmas, without taking me along. I was completely alone on Christmas Day; not even my kids wanted to be with me. One friend told me brutally, that the men I date only want to use me for intimacy because I am a massive flirt and a sure thing.
expecting them to be loyal to you; and the men seeing that you are very willing, use you and finish with you after a time. Your longer email tells me that you are not interested in older men, or men of the same age; however, dating younger men has not worked for you. I do not believe dating Apps are the best way to meet people;
there are too many dishonest people out there. I would suggest you find a hobby group you like - walking clubs are full of single people. I also urge you to start loving yourself, and not letting men ride roughshod over you; lay down your expectations straight away. At the first sign of bad behaviour, you must finish with these unreliable men.
It could be you are following many laid down patterns here, of dating younger men and Write to Sara in confidence. a p S eudonym W ill be u S ed if you WiS h. Cat sterilisation programme exceeds 200 castrations
Since last February 21, the department of animal protection of the City of torrevieja is developing a Campaign for Sterilization of Feral Cats that aims to control cat colonies and, at the same time, avoid collateral damage that may be generating in the natural and urban biodiversity, mainly caused by existing colonies in the periphery and within the natural park of the lagoons of la Mata and torrevieja and in the Municipal natural park “Molino del agua”. the councillor for animal protection, Concha Sala, has
highlighted the importance of this campaign and, in this regard, stressed that initially the contract provided for the castration of 350 cats, managing to increase the contract by 837 castrations more. in this way, the figure may rise to 1,187 castrations per year, indicating that the aim is to achieve a statistic that is close to a certain control of feral colonies in the municipality. as of yesterday, 13 april, a total of 229 castrations had already been carried out.
For the proper development
of the campaign has had the valuable and indispensable collaboration of various feline welfare groups such as “alma de Gato”, project “CeS”, animalistas torrevieja and the new entity “la Voz de los gatos”. the department of animal protection expresses its gratitude to all the associations for their involvement and work in the development of this campaign.
the total investment cost of this campaign amounts to 53,949.15 euros, financed entirely by the City Council of torrevieja.

Coronation celebrations in Torrevieja
the Chaplaincy of St peter and paul, torrevieja is preparing with great excitement for the Coronation on May 6th . the Coronation of King Charles iii is a time of great rejoicing and celebration said Father richard a. Seabrook and our church will be commemoration this historical and spiritual event on three days over the Coronation weekend. on Friday 5th May there will be a special Mass in english at 1130 to pray for his Majesty the King and her Majesty the Queen Consort as they prepare to go to Westminster abbey for the Coronation. Whilst all the pageantry and ceremonial are spectacular with great processions of coaches, at the heart of the Coronation is a great act of worship, a celebration of the eucharist, the crowning and the most sacred act – that of the anointing, said Father Seabrook. this is why we come together before the Coronation to pray for the King and Queen and also that we may be prepared spiritually for the day of the Coronation. on Sunday 7th May the celebration of the holy eucharist at la Siesta at 1130 will give thanks for the Coronation and special prayers will be offered with hymns of praise to God. all are invited to both services on May 5th and May 7th . then
on the Monday 8 th May we will have a great Coronation Celebration added Father Seabrook with a big bring and share afternoon tea, Best Crown competition, a Victoria Sandwich competition for the men and a Coronation Quiz complete with a cava toast to their Majesties. all are invited to this but please contact Sue Brassington (councillorlosbalcones@ gmail.com) if you would like to come and join in the fun. all are welcome. the Coronation Celebration begins at 4 p.m. and will take place outside la Siesta Church on Calle
Granados, torrevieja.
Father Seabrook commented the death of her late Majesty the Queen last September showed how important the Monarch is for us and now we anticipate with joy the Coronation and the sense of coming together in celebration this brings. i do hope those who would like to celebrate the Coronation will join us. everyone is welcome. God save the King! Further information can be found on the Church´s Facebook page @anglicantorrevieja.

“I have noticed that my mouse pointer changes depending on what I selected on the screen. Why?”
By default, it looks like a pointed arrow. When positioned over
selectable text, it appears as an i-beam cursor. When hovering over a link, it appears as a pointing hand.
an i-cursor, also called an i-beam pointer, is a mouse cursor, indicating the mouse is over an area where text can be typed. its shape resembles the capital letter “i”. When your mouse cursor is an i-beam, you can click to place your text cursor there. text can then be highlighted, inserted, or changed in that area. the picture is an example of how the i-cursor may appear.
other examples of mouse pointersinclude the two-headed arrowand the hourglass. the double-headed arrow is a special mouse cursor displayed when a window or window object can be resized. When this cursor is active, you can drag the object up or down to increase or decrease its vertical size.
an hourglass is a mouse pointer that indicates the computer is working, busy, or that the user should wait. For example, when saving a large file, the mouse pointer may become an hourglass as the file is saving and change back to the arrow once complete

Campoverde Church supports local food bank
Among the congregation of ‘Campoverde Church in the Community’ is a family who run the local‘Orihuela Costa Community Food Bank’and, on Easter morning, the food bank put out an emergency appeal for non-perishable food, Easter chocolate, and raffle prizes for their up-coming Charity Fair. That afternoon, Assistant Lay Reader at Campoverde Church, Pip Shail, happened to be attending a meal with a social group at Y.O.L.O.’s Bar, Cabo Roig. The tables there were decorated with cute, knitted chicks containing Cadbury’s cream eggs and, knowing the food bank’s appeal for ‘Easter chocolate’, Pip asked her friends at the meal if they would kindly donate their chocolate eggs. A total of 31 cream eggs were collected and presented to the food bank at the Campoverde Church Easter service later that day, together with a large amount of food donated by other members of the congregation.
Anyone wishing to find out more about ‘Orihuela Costa Community Food Bank’ can visit them on ‘Facebook’.
Campoverde Church in the Community has placed a permanent donations box in ‘Celcius Hair and Beauty’ in Campoverde for people to donate
non-perishable food on an ongoing basis. Donations can also be dropped off at Campoverde

Celebrating Easter with Campoverde Church
Easter is the most important time of the year in the Christian Calendar. It is the time when we celebrate the thing that sets Christianity apart from all other religions: the death and resurrection of Jesus. This year, as usual,Campoverde Church provided a full programme of events and services, appealing to all parts of our community and all ages.
We started with the making of Palm Crosses in the Church Garden ready for Palm Sunday. Members of the congregation came along and spent a very happy time learning how to make Palm Crosses before making enough to take around to all the bars and restaurants in Campoverde for distribution to their customers.
On Monday of Holy Week we had our Holy Week Procession through Campoverde. This is one of the most important events in Campoverde’s Calendar and arose from the annual procession that takes place in Pilar de la Horadada. We wanted the ex-pat paso that leads the main procession to be brought to Campoverdeand permission was granted a few years ago. It is very important to our Church as it contains a cross, the symbolic reminder
that Jesus sacrificed his life for us so that we could have eternal life. Many local people and local dignitaries joined the Procession or witnessed it from the roadside.
On Maundy Thursday we gathered in The Shed to remember the events of the Last Supper that Jesus had with his disciples on the night before he died. We enacted the words spoken and shared bread and wine together. Afterwards we went into the Church Garden to trace the events leading up to the death of Jesus on the cross, by followingeach of the Stations of the Cross that had been place in the Garden throughout Lent.
On Easter Saturday we had an Easter Eggstravaganza for the children of the village. Around 25 children and their families turned up and enjoyed an afternoon of Easter fun; this included a Name the Bunny Competition and decorating Easter Bonnets. After telling them all about the true meaning of Easter the afternoon ended with the grand finale of the Easter Egg Hunt.
The Church’s Grand Finale was the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Day. The service was a most joyful occasion which included
happy resurrection hymns and readings, hearing why Jesus died for us, and an Easter Bonnet Competition before retiring to The Shed to eat more chocolate!! Who said Church isn’t fun?? Easter wasn’t all about us in Campoverde. Throughout Lent we had been asking people to donate Easter Eggs for the children of Orihuela Orphanage. By the time the orphanage came to collect them, over 140 Easter Eggs had been donated. We thank Iceland for their tremendous efforts to gather donations and all those who donated.

Erectile dysfunction: symptoms, causes and treatment
The specialists of the Urology Unit at Quirónsalud Torrevieja answer the most frequently asked questions about erectile dysfunction.
What is erectile dysfunction?
Erectile dysfunction is the inability to achieve and maintain an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. However, if erectile dysfunction in men is a recurring problem, it can cause stress, affect self-confidence and contribute to relationship problems.
If you are worried about erectile dysfunction, put yourself in the hands of specialists to help you treat it. Quirónsalud has a team of urologists specialised in this type of pathology.
Symptoms of erectile dysfunction
Among the symptoms that patients usually present, we can mention:
- Problems getting an erection.
- Problems maintaining an erection.
- Decreased sexual desire.
When should you see a specialist?
If you have the following symptoms and they are recurrent, see your doctor:
- You are concerned about your erections or have other sexual problems, such as ejaculatory dysfunction, premature or delayed ejaculation.
- You have diabetes, heart disease, or another known medical condition that may be associated with erectile
dysfunction.
- You have other symptoms in addition to erectile dysfunction.
What causes erectile dysfunction
Male sexual arousal is a complex process involving the brain, hormones, emotions, nerves, muscles and blood vessels. Erectile dysfunction can be the result of a problem with any of these. Similarly, stress and mental health concerns can cause erectile dysfunction or make it worse.
Sometimes erectile dysfunction is due to a combination of physical and psychological issues. For example, a minor physical illness that slows down your sexual response can make you anxious about maintaining an erection. This anxiety can cause or worsen erectile dysfunction.
How is erectile dysfunction diagnosed?
Once the patient has presented with the symptoms mentioned above, a series of specific questionnaires are carried out to try to detect it. In addition, a physical examination and a series of analyses are carried out to determine the male’s hormonal status and possible imbalances in liver, kidney or pancreatic function.
How is erectile dysfunction treated?
Treatment should be oriented
according to the patient’s expectations and wishes.
Depending on the results of the tests and once the cause of the erectile dysfunction in the male has been found, in some cases, treatment with a psychologist specialised in sexology is used.
Oral administration of a tablet containing sildenafil, vardenafil or tadalafil is sometimes effective. When sexually stimulated, these drugs work
by increasing blood flow to the penis.
There are some treatments, which use drugs that the patient injects into the penile shaft himself. They have some side effects that should be avoided with a good training of the patient.
If you want to know more about erectile dysfunction or if you have some of the symptoms mentioned above on a recurring basis, we recommend that you consult a urology specialist at Quirónsalud Torrevieja.

Ten tips for relaxing in the sun
With these tips, you can relax and enjoy the sun safely and comfortably.
1. Find a comfortable spot: When looking for a spot to relax in the sun, consider the location of your spot. If you have sensitive skin, try to find a spot in the shade. You can also use a beach umbrella, a parasol, or a sunshade to provide some shade. You could also bring a comfortable beach chair, a beach mat, or a beach towel to lie on.
2. Wear sunscreen: Sunscreen is an essential part of any outdoor activity. Use a sunscreen with a high SPF to protect your skin from sunburn and UV damage. Apply sunscreen generously and frequently, especially after swimming or sweating. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen to your ears, neck, and feet as well.
3. Bring a hat and sunglasses: A hat and sunglasses can help to protect your face and eyes from the sun. A wide-brimmed hat can provide extra shade and protect your scalp from sunburn. Sunglasses can help to reduce glare and protect your eyes from UV damage.
4. Stay hydrated: It’s important to drink plenty
of fluids when spending time in the sun. Water is the best choice, but you can also drink sports drinks, coconut water, or other fluids that contain electrolytes to help keep you hydrated. Avoid sugary drinks, alcohol, and caffeine, as they can dehydrate you.
5. Bring a good book or magazine: Reading a good book or magazine is a great way to relax in the sun. It can help to take your mind off of your daily worries and help you to unwind. You could also listen to an audiobook, a podcast, or some calming music to help you relax.
6. Use visualization techniques to enhance your relaxation. Imagine yourself in a peaceful, relaxing environment, such as a tropical beach or a quiet forest. Focus on the details of this environment and how it makes you feel.
7. Take a mindful walk or swim. Focus on the sensation of your feet in the sand or the water on your skin. Take in the sights, sounds, and smells of your surroundings as you move.
8. Take deep breaths: Breathing deeply and slowly can help to calm your mind and body. Take a
Health & Beauty
few deep breaths, focusing on your breath as it enters and leaves your body. This can help you to relax and destress. Use your senses to take in your surroundings. Notice the warmth of the sun on your skin, the feel of the sand or grass under your feet, and the sound of the waves or breeze. Take in the smells and colours of your surroundings.
9. Practice mindfulness by focusing on the present moment. Try not to think about the past or future, but instead focus on what you are experiencing right now. If your mind starts to wander, gently bring it back to the present moment. Use visualisation techniques to enhance your relaxation.
10. Practice gratitude. Take a few moments to think about all the things in your life that you are grateful for. This can help to shift your focus from any stress or worries you may have to the positive things in your life.
Remember to take breaks from the sun and seek shade if you start to feel too hot or uncomfortable. It’s also important to be mindful of the sun’s intensity and duration of exposure, especially during peak hours of the day.

The most stolen cars in Spain
The Seat Ibiza, Volkswagen Golf, Seat León, Ford Focus and BMW 3 Series lead the list of the most stolen cars in Spain. But not all units are equally coveted, the preferred ones are those that are older. This is what emerges from the latest study ‘Car thefts. Data 2020’ prepared
by Estamos Seguros, a dissemination initiative of the national insurance company Unespa, in collaboration with the Zaragoza Centre.
If you have one of these cars, pay close attention to where you leave it parked, because the risk of theft
is higher than with other models. In 2022, 30,982 vehicles were stolen in Spain compared to 35,105 thefts in 2019, which is 11.7% less, according to the latest accident rate balance of the Ministry of the Interior. On the other hand, if we compare it with 2021, car theft increases by 17.3%. On average, 85 cars are stolen every day. These five models account for 18% of the thefts in Spain, but the Opel Astra, Volkswagen Polo, Citroën Xsara and Renault Mégane were also stolen. Furthermore, two out of every three insured units that were stolen in Spain were more than 10 years old.
Ranking of the most stolen cars
These are the 10 most stolen cars in Spain, according to Unespa data:
1. Seat Ibiza
2. Volkswagen Golf
3. Seat León
4. Ford Focus
5. BMW 3 Series
6. Opel Astra
7. Volkswagen Polo
8. Citröen Xsara
9. Renault Megane
10. Peugeot 206
What is the reason behind this demand for veteran best-sellers? “They are particularly coveted by thieves because, due to their wide acceptance, there is a significant demand for repair parts”, explains Unespa in its report.
In the same vein, Víctor López, head of insurance at Rastreator, explains:
“When talking about the most stolen cars, it is predictable that people think that they are the most luxurious brands. But the reality is that the best-selling cars are usually the ones that are most likely to be stolen, as well as the ones that are the oldest. This is because these cars are more in demand for spare parts and there are also a greater number of these vehicles so they are more likely to be stolen.
Older cars are more likely to be stolen
The versions most likely to be stolen tend to be from the early 2000s. The study shows that combining make, model and age, the model most likely to be stolen in 2020 was the 2002 Seat Leon, followed by the same model from 2001. This was followed by the Seat Ibiza from 2004, 2003 and 2002. The 1998 Volkswagen Golf came sixth in the ranking.
According to the report, although best-sellers are the most stolen vehicles, this does not necessarily mean that they are the most sought-after. Smaller cars for urban use and vans are of greater interest to thieves. The ranking is headed by a microcar, the Ligiers-JS, which is almost 10 times more likely to be stolen. It is followed by two vans, the Fiat Fiorino and the Fiat Dobló Cargo, and two mini-compacts, the Abarth 500 and the Seat Arosa. All of them are four times more likely to be stolen compared to the average.

Disappointment and Drama
The forecast the 20 plus knot winds overnight were supposed to drop to 14 knots by 11.00 on Sunday April 2nd. But the forecasters had got it wrong and the they had not moderated by 11.00, the normal start time for SAMM races, or the delayed times of 11.30 then 12.00. Two novice crews then decided not to race in the conditions which forced the Race Officer to abandon the day. A great disappointment for everybody. In fact the high winds continued well into the afternoon so it was a sensible decision.
Wednesday, April 5th, was the first SAMM mid-week race day, a new idea for 2023 requested by some members. This did go ahead and it was a day of drama.
For race 1 the wind was NW 9.5 knots but gusty. The start timing was hindered when the horn jammed so a minute was added but most boats still started well with the Omega, Sirocco, and Laser Radial in the lead pack, Vision had a problem with the rigging and did not start.
Julian, who sailed Sirocco single handed, almost T-boned a dinghy at the first mark when it failed to heed his call of “Starboard”. Then he had to heave to on lap 4 to fix the rudder down haul.
The Omega capsized at the 1st mark on the second lap but quickly got going without losing much time but then had to return to the shore to replace lost battens, re-joining the race later.
The drama continued with the capsize of the Laser Radial during lap 4. It was righted once but the rudder jammed and over she went again.
The support boat attended but the sailor, John, was in the water for about 7 minutes trying to right her and got very cold. The support boat crew got John on board, wrapped him in a thermal blanket, took him ashore for a warm shower, then recovered the Laser. Afterwards John said” I cannot praise enough the support boat crews recovery of myself and my boat”.
Race 2. The wind had increased to 10 knots from N, turning more East halfway through, but was less gusty. The Omega and Laser Radial stayed ashore so 4 boats raced as Vision had sorted the rigging problem. This race was more steady with much less drama, the Laser 2000 moved up the field but was late doing so and, despite finishing 1st on the water, was 3rd after handicaps were applied.
After the finish Julian in Sirocco couldn’t get his engine started and had to pick-up his mooring under sail. He got it wrong and lost his boat hook so was now in real trouble. The support boat supplied another boat hook and the crew was transferred to help but lost his spectacles and hat overboard in the process.
During the after race chat, Julian (Sirocco) admitted that he saw the Laser capsized but could not see John so stopped racing and went to check. Realising John had been taken ashore by the support boat he rejoined the race but missed a mark. The Race Officer thanked him for his honesty but had to mark him DNF.
A good end to a dramatic days racing with results as follows

University student, 21, celebrates after Corach Rambler’s Grand National victory lands him over £500,000 in prize money... as the horse’s owner jokes ‘it’s just a shame I’ve peaked too early’
8-1 favourite Corach Rambler romped home to victory in the Grand National
The horse is owned by a syndicate that includes 21-year-old Cameron Sword
Corach Rambler’s victory meant the horse scooped up more than £500,000
A university student was celebrating on Saturday night after his horse Corach Rambler won the Grand National and
scooped home more than £500,000 in the process.
Cameron Sword, 21, is part of ‘The Ramblers’ syndicate who own Corach Rambler. Members of the group each pay £300 a month for the horse to train with Lucinda Russell.
The £17,000 horse - which had already secured almost £200,000 in prize money before the showpiece event at Aintree - will now earn £561,000 as a result of winning the Grand National in welcome news to Business Studies student Sword.
Corach Rambler eased to victory
by more than two lengths on Saturday with Derek Fox riding for trainer Russell. The pair are now twotime winners of the iconic steeplechase and the victory left the horse’s young owner in high spirits.
Ciro immobile involved in accident
Italy striker Ciro Immobile suffered a terrifying car crash after a tram ‘went through a red light and smashed into his vehicle’... but the Lazio star and his two daughters ‘are not seriously injured after being rushed to hospital’
Lazio striker Ciro Immobile was involved in a shocking car crash on Saturday
A tram went through a red light and crashed into his car, with his children inside Immobile is not thought to be seriously injured, but he was taken to hospital
Lazio and Italy striker Ciro Immobile was reportedly involved in a shocking car crash on Saturday night after he collided with a tram.
The 33-year-old - who has won 55 caps for Italy and scored 194 goals in 289 appearances for Lazio - saw his car smashed-up after the crash.
Reports in Italy say he is OK other
than a bloody hand and a potential fractured shoulder.
Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport reported that while driving near Ponte Matteotti - which is just five minutes from Lazio’s Olympico Stadium - a tram went through a red light and hit his car.
Immobile was with his two daughters in the car at the time and other people were involved in the accident - including those travelling on the tram.
In a video circulating on social media, when asked what had happened by bystanders, Immobile recounted: ‘I slightly turned to the left - in fact you can see the car’s been hit only to one side.
‘The tram jumped a red light, but now I don’t really feel like talking.’
When pressed on how he was feeling, the forward said: ‘I hurt my arm a little bit.’
Witnesses to the collision reaffirmed
Immobile’s claims that the tram didn’t respect the red light with the striker’s Land Rover SUV wrecked following the incident.
The Italian media have also reported Immobile and his two daughters have been taken to hospital, but are not thought to be seriously injured.
They also stated the striker accompanied one injured person to hospital and was checking up on their wellbeing following the crash.
The incident comes after Immobile ended a six-game run without a goal by scoring in Lazio’s 3-0 victory over Spezia in Serie A. Maurizio Sarri’s side are currently second in the Italian top flight after a fine season and look set to reach the Champions League proper for just the second time in 16 seasons.
