in an announcement made by the association for environmental and Consumer education, the Valencian Community is once again Spain’s

shining star for excellence on its beaches. The region has scooped an impressive 153 blue flags, 14 more than in 2022, a hallmark that is synonymous

with quality on the coast. in addition, alicante Province has once again been named as Spain’s top province for the quality of its beaches, winning 85 Blue Flags, despite six beaches losing their coveted status and the local municipality of orihuela tops the list with the most blue flags in the Valencian Community, as it has for serval years. The certification guarantees the quality of the beaches and the excellent condition of the waters.

The Councillor for Beaches, antonio Sánchez, has praised the hard work of the department of Beaches and the collaboration of various departments of orihuela City Council.

in total, orihuela has obtained eleven blue flags for its beaches, including: aguamarina, Barranco Rubio, La Caleta,

Cala Capitán, Cala Cerrada, Cala estaca, Cala Mosca, La Glea, Cala Bosque, Mil Palmeras and Punta Prima. additionally, the dehesa de Campoamor Yacht Club has also been recognised.

To win a Blue Flag award, the beaches were assessed on the quality of their bathing water and sands, as well as environmental management and public information displays. alicante Province managed to maintain its top position despite the loss of six Blue Flags.

The Blue Flag is an international environmental recognition that is awarded annually. 30 countries in europe, South africa, Morocco, new Zealand, Canada, and the Caribbean use this eCo label. in total, more than 3,500 beaches and marinas are

recognised. Beaches from across Spain have achieved six more ‘Blue Flags’ this year than in 2022, maintaining the worldwide leadership they achieved in 1994, and accumulating 15 percent of the total awards. alicante’s total of 85 flags is 27 more than second-placed Pontevedra, with Malaga coming in third with 39 flags. By regions, the Valencian Community pipped andalucia to the top spot, with 153 flags to 148.

Orihuela Costa anti-cancer walk is back!

it´s back... Maria and the Pink Ladies and Panthers “Walk for Life” will once again hit the streets of the coast. Unfortunately, due to Covid the last Pink Ladies “Walk for Life” was last held in June 2019 but is about to return with a vengeance.

The Pink Ladies Walk for life first took place in June 2010 when its founder Maria Wilson was diagnosed with breast cancer, it then became a regular annual fundraising event in the Pink Ladies calendar until the Covid restrictions.

Thanks to the co-operation of the Town Hall especially Firmin Gonzales Rodriguez and the Local Police the charity, raising funds for the aaCC anticancer charity, will reintroduce the “Walk for Life” on Sunday 4th June 2023.

Previously the walk started and finished at Playa Flamenca promenade, however, this year the walk will start and finish at The Pink Ladies aaCC regional office at Flamenca Beach Commercial Centre. The walk will still cover approximately 5 kilometres, and everyone is encouraged to wear pink in memory of someone who has lost their life to cancer, those still fighting the

disease and not forgetting those who have beaten it and survived.

according to statistics one in two of us will get cancer, so we know it affects just about everyone in one way or another. What we want is for as many people as possible to come along and join in, it’s a fun day but also a day to reflect.

The registration fee is just 5 euros and sponsorship forms are available for those that wish to help raise much needed funds. all monies raised on the day will be donated to the aaCC and used locally to benefit those experiencing cancer and their families.

everyone is invited to join the event, men, women, children and even family pets, bring your friends, bring your neighbours, and help to beat cancer. Why not arrange for a group of you to walk from your local bar, your coffee morning group, your sports or any other club or group you are involved in.

Maria said: “Previous walks have seen between 400 and 500 people take part and this year we would dearly love to smash that figure to show everyone that the people of the coast care about

Another day, another rescue

easy Horse Care Rescue Centre has just welcomed its 188th rescued equine to the centre.

Their newest arrival is an elderly donkey they have taken into their care after being contacted by Sax council. She was abandoned on a run-down finca on a piece of land and concerned neighbours were feeding her.

Sue Weeding explained the council then contacted them at the Rescue Centre and they travelled to collect the

donkey. Police are involved in the case and Sue and her husband Rod, along with their volunteers, will continue to care for the donkey at the centre in Rojales.

“These rescues are only possible thanks to the kindness of our followers, either by donating furniture or items into one of our 3 charity shops or from attending one of our tours.” Sue said.

TheCentre can cater for groups and parties of people to visit and tour the

Rescue Centreand these are proving popular for people wanting to see the animals and view the work the charity does.

The Rescue Centre is currently eagerly awaiting approval for a farm licence. a fundraising campaign at the start of the year has allowed them to complete all the shelters and the stables have been rebuilt. it is hoped this work is sufficient enoughto allow the new licence to be issued and they

are currently waiting for government vets to come round for the final inspection.

Sue added: “Without our facilities and what we do, these animals would just be left where they are. There is no one like us in this area.”

May tourist tours

The department of Tourism has launched several guided tours for the month of May which, according to the councillor for tourism, María García, are aimed “at visitors, but also at local people who want to get to know the municipality better”.

on 5th May, starting at 6:30pm there will be a tour along the Segura River that will leave from the Plaza del Carmen. on Saturday, 13th May, at 12 noon, will be a new guided tour, “art through the churches”, which will explain in detail those works that go unnoticed, which are on facades or in niches. on the same day at 6:00pm, there will be another route through the Palm Grove, leaving from the site’s interpretation centre, which will allow participants to experience the unique nature of orihuela.

on Sunday, 14th May, at 10am, the tour through the murals of San isidro will begin, which will include a poetry recital by the orihuela Social Forum. on Saturday, 20th May, at 10:30am, there will be a “Cultural Walk”, which is perfect for those who do not know orihuela very well, as it will allow people to get an idea of the city’s heritage and of the wider municipality.

on Saturday 27th May “a walk with Salzillo” from 10am will highlight Holy Week in orihuela, a fiestaof international Tourist interest, throughout the

year. That same day, at 6:00pm, the “Ruta de Palacios” will take place and, on Sunday, 28thMay, the “andalusí Legacy” will be explored. This is a tour that visits what still remains in the city and underpins its history.

“a varied programme has been planned with some novelties and we hope that people will participate,” Councillor García pointed out. Those interested can reserve their place through the website www.orihuelaturistica. es.

Flood alert test

The Security and emergency Response agency and the General directorate of Civil Protection and emergencies of the Ministry of the interior carried out the second test of the eS alert system last Thursday.

This was an emergency alert siren and message that was sent to the mobile phones of thousands of people across the 27 municipalities of the Vega Baja region. in this case, the message warned of the risk of flooding, and the simulated notice included instructions for action and self-protection that would minimise the risk to people in a real episode of severe flooding.

Tourism took the opportunity to give the occupancy data in hotels and accommodation across the municipality during the May bank holiday. She has indicated that the data collected from the tourist apartments and hotels in orihuela show an average occupancy of 80 percent. “it has also been noticed in the influx of people who have come to request information from the Tourist offices”, added María García, who recalled that “orihuela is a destination to enjoy all year round”.

The messages were sent in both Spanish and english, due to the large number of english-speaking expats that the municipalities of the Vega Baja coast have. also taking into account that this region can have a floating population close to 600,000 inhabitants in thesummer due to tourism.

This is the second test carried out in the Valencian Community, although in this case, the geographical area tested has been much wider. The eS-alert system, which is integrated into the national alert network, uses Cell Broadcast technology to deliver messages to the mobile

The regional Secretary for Security and emergencies, José María Ángel, attended the test together with the director General of the interior, Salvador almenar, the mayor of orihuela Carolina Gracia and municipal and local police representatives from the region.

José María Ángel explained that this second trial that is being carried out in the Valencian Community “is part of the set of actions foreseen in the Vega Renhace plan”. He explained that these public alerts with self-protection instructions will allow the

The regional secretary highlighted that “84 percent of the municipalities in the Valencian Community with the obligation to have a Municipal action Plan against the risk of flooding have already prepared a framework document. There are currently 227 municipalities that, due to different risk factors, are required to have this plan that includes the organisation and operation of their resources to deal with pre-emergency and emergency situations due to floods.

in the case of the Vega Baja region, it is specified that “all municipalities already have this framework document prepared, in the approval phase and only one is in the preparation phase.”

Spain invests in vocational training

Spain will invest 1.3 billion euros in vocational training to fight youth unemployment, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has announced. The initiative will create 824 new training centres for digital skills, 45,000 vocational training places and 1,500 classrooms for technology and entrepreneurship, he said. it will be approved at a cabinet meet next week he added, during a Socialist party event in the northern city of Pamplona.

Boosting vocational training is the best way to reduce youth unemployment “which remains one of the main ills of our labour market,” Sanchez said.

“We are creating more and better jobs,” he added.

The new investment joins the 6.6 billion euros already invested in this area since this government was sworn in for a second term in January 2020, the prime minister explained.

The announcement comes

ahead of regional and local elections on 28thMay and what promises to be closely-fought national elections at the end of the year.

The Torrellano raid resulted in the arrest of a Spaniard with a lengthy history of drug trafficking and growing marijuana. The investigation began after the Policia nacional received information about an alicante province firm that was allegedly sending approximately 150 kilos of marijuana to ireland and other european countries like Sweden on a weekly basis.

While two arrests have been made, the investigation is ongoing to locate more members of the drug trafficking gang. The Policia nacional, the UK national

Crime agency, and the Garda in ireland are continuing their joint efforts to put an end to this illicit operation.

This bust highlights the danger of drug trafficking, which not only fuels addiction and crime but also puts the lives of those involved at risk. By working together across borders, law enforcement agencies can disrupt these criminal networks and bring those responsible to justice. The coordinated efforts of the Policia nacional, the UK national Crime agency, and the Garda in ireland demonstrate that no matter where criminals operate, law enforcement is determined to shut them down.

First litter for Wild Dog at Terra Natura

dorinka, a asian Wild dog who lives at Terra natura Benidorm, has made her debut in the world of motherhood with the birth of her first three cubs. The asian Wild dog cubs weighed approximately two kilos at birth and measure between 20 and 25 centimetres. The veterinarians at the nature park have been able to determine that one of the cubs is male and the other female, although the third cub has not yet been sexed.

The female asian Wild dog (Cuon alpinus) was transferred from a zoo in Budapest to Terra natura Benidorm. The cubs remain with their mother in the asian-themed area, which is located within the nature and animal park. Until they reach one and a half months of age, the breeding process must not be interfered with in order to prevent the mother from rejecting the cubs.

Therefore, visual observation by the team of caregivers and veterinarians is maintained at a distance several times a day to monitor the proper development and adaptation of the puppies, but trying not to stress or disturb them. dorinka,

who is a new mother, behaves in an exemplary manner, taking care of the puppies and feeding them at all times.

The male of the herd also takes good care of the cubs. He has even started to bring them pieces of regurgitated meat so that they can smell it and become familiar with this new food, as a preliminary step to changing their diet. in this way, the calves gradually begin to combine milk with solid food until they are six months old.

The species feeds on mother’s milk until they are two months old, and it is from six months onwards that they only eat meat. at this point, they will become independent of maternal care and will join the herd as soon as they begin to walk and explore the vicinity of their meadow. at present, the group of asian Wild dogs at Terra natura Benidorm is made up of one male, two females and the three cubs.

This species is in danger of extinction according to the iUCn due to the progressive loss of its habitat, the disappearance of its prey, competition with other predators, as well as some diseases and possible

persecution by domestic and feral dogs. They are very sociable animals that live in large clans, sometimes splitting into small groups to hunt.

They feed mainly on medium-sized deer. Unlike most social canids, the cuons let their young eat first after a hunt. although fearful of humans, groups of this species are capable of attacking large animals such as water buffalo, wild boar and even tigers.

About Terra Natura Benidorm

Terra natura Benidorm is a nature and animal park dedicated to the care of animal species, with more than 1,500 animals of 200 different species (98 of which are protected or in danger of extinction), 30 conservation projects and 19 breeding programmes. its surface area is divided into four areas representing the continents of america, asia and europe, and the Pangea area, inspired by the origin of the earth. The tour of its facilities immerses visitors in the concept of zoo-immersion and otherness, and they can enjoy a wide range of entertainment activities.

The Campoverde branch of the aaCC anti-cancer charity recently held its second annual ‘Pretty in Pink Walk for Life – and raised 2,755 euros. The event, held on Saturday 29th april, saw more than twice the number of walkers as the previous year, with 130 people lacing up their trainers, donning pink and hitting the streets.

The day was full of fun and frivolity as well as fundraising. Walkers completed a 3k route from Plaza Florida to el Cinco Tapa y Vino. each walker made a donation of 5€ and members of the public could make charitable donations on the day to boost the coffers.

The event proved such a success that local charity president Julie Hobbs has pledged to make it an annual

event, alongside other local fundraising initiatives such as ascot Ladies day, fashion shows and hog roast etc.

This year’s walk was supported by ibex insurance and el Cinco Vino y Tapas - a local bar in Pinar de Campoverdewhich provided an after party with music, BBQ, bric-a-brac sale and raffle.

How to create an investment plan that can help you build an income, retire early or just get richer

do you invest? The fact that you are reading this article greatly increases the chance that you do.

What’s less likely is that you have an investment plan.

and by that i mean a clearly defined plan of what you are investing for and how you plan to do it.

So how do you come up with an investment plan? Well, if you follow these 4 steps you will be well on your way to having a plan.

Know what you want from investing

The question of what you are investing for is an important one to answer when creating your investment plan.

if you are investing in retirement or to increase your income, look at how much you

want that income to be - and be realistic about the number.

Work out how much you have to invest as much as possible isn’t really the best answer here.

if you don’t work out how much that is each month or year – and how that fits into the rest of your finances, be that everyday life, savings, home or debts - then you aren’t setting yourself up properly.

Consider how much risk you are willing to take

Risk is a difficult concept to get your head round when investing. Yet, in reality, we take and calculate risks all the time and so are capable of weighing them up.

Work out your investing strategy

Working out your strategy involves combining what you want, how much you have, and the risk you are willing to take to come up with a coherent plan.

even if you have put in the legwork on the other bits of the investment plan, this is likely to be where you come unstuck.

if all this sounds daunting, then help is at hand as the Seagate team has a wealth of experience and have several options with international companies to help manage the risks and diversify your portfolio.

May Fair tribute to go ahead at Torrevieja´s Station Park

on Thursday of last week in the Plenary Hall of the City Council, specially decorated with fair motifs, it was presented the Tribute to the May Fair of Torrevieja, to be held from 11 to 14 May in the Parque de la estación. The Councillor for Festivities, Concha Sala, was accompanied by representatives of the dance academies that will offer their shows on a stage that will be installed at the fair, as well as representatives of the 7 small booths that will also open their doors at the fairgrounds.

The councillor recalled the great success of last year’s edition of the May Fair after the pandemic and some years in which the fair, with more than 35 years of history, “had deteriorated in many aspects”. Concha Sala pointed out that this year “given the impossibility of holding it in the port area due to the works that are being carried out and because it is impossible to move it to another location due to the lack of the necessary infrastructure, we did not want the year to be a blank slate and we have responded to the interest of both the local stalls and the dance academies and schools, giving a nod to the May Fair”.

in this sense, the councillor of Fiestas has indicated that the Parque de la estación will have a regulated capacity with the maximum legal capacity, will be conditioned to house a stage for dance schools to perform their exhibitions and seven small booths, “no, ni ná”, “Los Justitos”, “entre amig@s”, “amigos de la alegría”, “Las Lolas”, Casa de andalucía “Rafael alberti” and alimentos Solidarios Torrevieja. The park and the “casetas”

will have the same musical thread with the performance of dJ’s that will enhance the atmosphere.

The programme of events includes performances by Mery dance academy and Soul dance at 20:30. on Friday, at the same time, the “arantxa Blanco” dance Centre and the Municipal dance School with its teacher, nuria Girona, will perform. also on Saturday at 20:30 the “QK” academy and the “Paya’s” dance School will perform. The venue will open on Thursday at 19:00 hours and from Friday to Sunday at 12:00 hours.

The Parque de la estación site will be

manned by security guards, as well as volunteers from Civil Protection and the Local Police. Two ambulances will also be permanently stationed. a drinking water point will also be installed for the use of the stalls and in the area of cleaning, both waste collection and recycling will be reinforced, as well as work inside the park.

Finally, it should be noted that the Local Police have planned traffic closures around the Parque de la estación on avenida de la estación (between avda. diego Ramírez and C/ Greco) and Calle Greco (between avda. estación and C/Portalicos).

GBP

With both the Fed and eCB raising rates by another 25bps, markets believe that the Boe will replicate next week, raising UK rates to 4.5% in the process. That would be the twelfth straight meeting in which the Boe have raised rates. Much the same as with this week’s meetings, markets will focus on the Boe’s guidance for future UK rate moves, which is especially tricky, given the uncertain economic backdrop. in the case of the Boe, the voting pattern may also give some better signals, given that two of the nine member committee voted for a pause at last month’s meeting. Could there be more dissenters this time round? any Boe members voting for a pause will have to look beyond the fact that inflation still remains painfully high in the UK, with the latest reading of 10.1%, nearly double that of the current inflation rate in the US. There may be some better news on the horizon, with energy prices slipping everlower (see Cad), and food price inflation set to decline – according to a recent survey from British retailers. indeed, in a recent survey conducted by Citibank and YouGuv, overall public expectations for inflation a year from now have declined from 5.4% to 5.2% over the past month.

There was also some better news from the UK housing market of all places this week, with nationwide House Prices increasing by 0.5% over the past month, in spite of those cumulative Boe rate hikes. added to that was a decent surge among the latest PMi data, with both the Composite (up from 53.9 to 54.9) and Services (up from 54.9 to 55.9) beating estimates and remaining comfortably above the key 50 threshold, even if that has been achieved by raising prices along the way.

GBP / EUR UPDATE

aside from the Boe, the latest UK growth data is released a day later, with an expected GdP decline of 0.1% during the first quarter. GBP/USd has edged slightly higher over the week, driven mostly by the weakening USd. indeed, GBP/USd is now back over 1.2600, a level not traded in almost a year. Having also risen back over 1.1350 last week, GBP/eUR has since consolidated gains.

EURO in an ‘almost unanimous’ decision, the eCB raised all euro area interest rates by a reduced 25bps yesterday (Thursday), increasing their main refinancing rate (policy rate) to 3.75% in the process. The eCB decided to opt for a smaller hike this time round, given tepid growth in the region of late. Much the same as in the US, the rate hike had been fully priced in by markets. However, markets went into the meeting expecting a hawkish tone from eCB President Lagarde in her post-meeting conference, given persistent euro area inflation.

on that note Lagarde delivered, proudly announcing that ‘it is very clear that the eCB are not pausing,’ which should help to keep the euro bulls amongst us happy. Lagarde also mentioned that the region’s ‘inflation outlook has upside risks’. in data released this week, the latest regional inflation posted a slight improvement, with annual core inflation declining from 5.7 to 5.6%.

I am worried about leaving my husband by himself, who I know will not be able to cope after my death. I deal with all the banking, bill paying, cooking, cleaning and running of the house. I have always been happy to do these things and take the lead, but I realise now that my partner would flounder. I know it’s my own fault that we are in this situation, but he’s always been unwilling to do practical things. Even with my medical condition, he would not step up and take things off my hands; I still have to do the cooking and cleaning, when I should have been recuperating after my hospital stay and operation. My son, I know gets exasperated with his father; on one occasion my husband asked him to take me to A&E because he did not want to ‘sit there for hours’. My son has told him ‘he won’t be there for him if mum dies first’ - my husband retorted that he will be ok and will ‘buy a Phillipino wife’. I am used to his cutting comments, but my son is furious.

In the knowledge that you probably won’t be able to change your husband now; if it would take some stress from you, you should write everything down in a hard backed booked to be left for him to find once he is on his own. Detail passwords, access codes, how to operate online banking etc, make sure bank accounts are in joint names. Speak to a caring or home help agency, about employing

someone to help around the house if you can. Consult a solicitor by yourself, explaining the situation and ask if there is anything you can do now to ease responsibility for your partner if the worst should happen. And you can pay for, and plan your own funeral arrangements ahead of time. At least your mind will be at rest if you have made these provisions. Changing his attitude may not be possible.

The Sustainable Vega Baja Consortium begins its environmental education activities

For the first time, the Sustainable Vega Baja Consortium is organising environmental education activities with local schoolchildren.

With the environmental education programme, the Consortium seeks to raise awareness of the importance of separating and reducing waste in future generations.

The Sustainable Vega Baja Consortium has already started its environmental education programme. For the first time, the entity that manages the waste of 27 municipalities in the Vega Baja region is organising educational activities for the school population with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of separating, reducing and recycling waste in order to protect the environment.

“environmental education

is one of the priorities for the Sustainable Vega Baja Consortium. With this tool, we can boost our work to raise awareness of the importance of managing waste correctly for future generations,” explained

Joaquín Hernández, president of the Sustainable Vega Baja Consortium. “on this occasion, we made the waste cycle visible in a reference treatment plant so that schoolchildren understand the importance of separation at source and the role of the Consortium as a waste management body in protecting the environment”. in this first action, the environmental education team of the Sustainable Vega Baja Consortium accompanied a group of schoolchildren from ieS Montesinos to the Cañada Hermosa Waste Treatment Centre in Murcia. There, the

students were able to learn the importance of applying the 5Rs (reduce, recycle, reuse, repair and recover) to our daily lives, one of the environmental education objectives of the Consortium.

With this excursion, the first action organised by the environmental education team of the Sustainable Vega Baja Consortium, the youngest citizens have been able to learn first-hand about the complete waste treatment process. as announced by the president Joaquín Hernández last January, this year the Sustainable Vega Baja Consortium will launch environmental education activities in schools in the 27 municipalities that make up the Consortium “to continue promoting awareness, separation and recycling in our youngest citizens”

“What is the best way to keep my contacts?“

Whether you use android or apple (Smartphone or Tablet) or Windows or apple PC or Laptop your contacts should be the same in all locations.

i.e. You should only have one set of contacts. if you don’t have the same contacts on each device (any of the above) then action is required.

Your tech questions answered by Brian Hoile of the Costa Blanca Technology Help Group, helping over 320 members with their PCs , smartphones and more. Group members can attend meetings in person or online using Zoom or Teams.

To get contacts from one email system to another you will need to export to a File and then import that file into the other email system. each email system will have its own method to export and import contacts.

To get contacts from one device to another you may need to export from one device and import into another. if you have an android device, it requires a Google account to work.

The benefit of this is that you can choose to save your contacts to your Google account. This way as soon as you save a contact, it will immediately sync with your account meaning you can log in from any device and have all your contacts already accessible.

“I have noticed that some of my WhatsApp chats are no longer available after a few days, What can I do to keep these “chats”?”

Whatsapp has a feature called “disappearing messages” This feature lets users send messages that only remain on the chat window for a specific period of time.

When you enable disappearing

messages, you can set messages to disappear 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days after the time they are sent. The most recent selection only controls new messages in the chat, not previous messages you’ve sent or received. You can choose to turn disappearing messages on for all of your chats, or select specific chats. disappearing messages can be kept in the chat so that they won’t disappear by selecting “off”. How to turn disappearing messages on or off

• Open the WhatsApp chat.

• Tap the contact’s name.

• Select 24 hours, 7 days, 90 days or off under “Message timer”. • Select which chats you want to enable. if a user doesn’t open Whatsapp in the 24 hour, 7 day, or 90 day period, the message will disappear from the chat. However, the preview of the message might still be displayed in notifications until Whatsapp is opened. if a user creates a backup before a message disappears, the disappearing message will be included in the backup.

Tips for staying hydrated during hot weather

as the summer season approaches, it is essential to ensure that we are staying hydrated, especially when the temperature starts to rise. dehydration can cause various health problems, such as fatigue, dizziness, headaches, and in severe cases, heat exhaustion or heat stroke. To avoid such health problems, we need to be proactive and take the necessary steps to stay hydrated during hot weather.

Here are some tips to help you stay hydrated during hot weather:

Drink Plenty of Water

Water is the best way to stay hydrated during hot weather. drinking enough water can help replace the fluids lost through sweating. as a general guideline, we should drink at least eight glasses of water each day. However, when the temperature is high, we need to drink more water to keep our body hydrated. if you are going to be out in the sun for an extended period, make sure you carry a water bottle with you.

Avoid Caffeinated and Alcoholic Beverages

Caffeinated and alcoholic beverages can cause dehydration, so it is best to avoid them during hot weather. Both of these beverages can increase urination and cause the body to lose fluids quickly, leading to dehydration. if you must have these beverages, make sure you also drink enough water to compensate for the

fluids lost.

Eat Fruits and Vegetables with High Water Content

Fruits and vegetables with high water content, such as watermelon, cucumbers, tomatoes, and strawberries, can help keep you hydrated during hot weather. These foods are also rich in vitamins and minerals that are essential for good health. Try to include these foods in your diet during hot weather to stay hydrated.

Wear Loose and Lightweight Clothing

Wearing tight and heavy clothing can make you feel hot and sweaty, leading to dehydration. during hot weather, wear loose and lightweight clothing made of breathable fabrics, such as cotton or linen. This type of clothing allows air to circulate around your body and helps keep you cool and comfortable.

Avoid Outdoor Activities During the Hottest Part of the Day

The hottest part of the day is usually between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. avoid outdoor activities during this time, if possible. if you must be outside, make sure you wear a hat and sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Take frequent breaks in the shade and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Use a Mist Spray or Fan

Using a mist spray or fan can help keep you cool and prevent

dehydration during hot weather. a mist spray can help lower your body temperature quickly, while a fan can help circulate the air around you and keep you cool. These are great options to use when you are outdoors or when you don’t have access to air conditioning.

Know the Signs of Dehydration

Knowing the signs of dehydration can help you take action before it becomes a severe problem. Symptoms of dehydration include thirst, dry mouth, dark urine, dizziness, fatigue, and headaches. if you experience any of these symptoms, make sure you drink plenty of water and take a break from any physical activity.

Make Hydration Fun

Staying hydrated doesn’t have to be boring. You can make it fun by adding some flavour to your water. You can add fresh fruits such as lemon, lime, or cucumber to your water to give it a refreshing taste. You can also make your own fruit-infused water by adding your favorite fruits to a pitcher of water and letting it infuse for a few hours. drinking fruit-infused water is a great way to stay hydrated while getting the added benefits of vitamins and minerals from the fruit.

Carry a Reusable Water Bottle

Carrying a reusable water bottle is a convenient way to stay hydrated during hot weather. You can refill your water bottle throughout the day, ensuring that you always have access to water when you need it. You

can also choose a water bottle with a built-in filter, so you can have access to clean drinking water wherever you go.

Monitor Your Urine Colour

Monitoring your urine colour can give you an idea of your hydration status. if your urine is light yellow or clear, it indicates that you are well hydrated. However, if your urine is dark yellow or amber, it may be a sign that you are dehydrated and need to drink more water.

Drink Water Before and After Exercise

drinking water before and after exercise is essential to prevent dehydration. When you exercise, your body loses fluids through sweat, so it’s important to replenish those fluids by drinking water before and after your workout. if you are doing a long and intense workout, consider drinking a sports drink that contains electrolytes to help replace the minerals lost through sweat.

Take a Cold Shower

Taking a cold shower can help lower your body temperature and prevent dehydration. When you are exposed to hot weather, your body tries to regulate its temperature by sweating. However, if you are not able to sweat enough, your body temperature can rise, leading to dehydration. Taking a cold shower can help lower your body temperature quickly, making you feel more comfortable and preventing dehydration.

Stay in Air-Conditioned Areas

Staying in air-conditioned areas is one of the best ways to stay hydrated during hot weather. air-conditioning can help lower the temperature inside your home, office, or car, making it more comfortable and preventing dehydration. if you don’t have access to air conditioning, consider visiting public places such as shopping malls, libraries, or movie theaters that have air conditioning.

Be Mindful of Your Fluid Intake

Being mindful of your fluid intake can help you stay hydrated during hot weather. Keep track of how much water you are drinking throughout the day and make sure you are getting enough. You can use a hydration app on your phone or a water tracker to help you monitor your fluid intake.

in conclusion, staying hydrated during hot weather is essential to good health. By following these tips, you can prevent dehydration and the health problems associated with it. Remember to make hydration fun, carry a reusable water bottle, monitor your urine colour, drink water before and after exercise, take a cold shower, stay in air-conditioned areas, and be mindful of your fluid intake. By taking these steps, you can enjoy the summer season while staying healthy and hydrated. Torrevieja audiovisual reaches the classrooms of Torrevieja

The Councillor for Education of the City of Torrevieja, Ricardo Recuero, and the filmmaker and director of Torrevieja Audiovisual, Lidiana Rodriguez, presented this morning at a press conference “Torrevieja Audiovisual in the classroom”, a cross-cutting activity of the National Short Film Festival of our city, an educational proposal that allows to address the teaching action from a humanizing perspective, mainly developing ethical aspects (values) in the formation of adolescents.

This project arises from the need to make young people aware of problems that are detected in our society and, especially in the classroom, to activate their critical thinking; that capacity to analyse and evaluate the consistency of reasoning.

Torrevieja Audiovisual in the Classroom consists of a programme of five short films made by national filmmakers of great prestige worldwide who are part of the Torrevieja Audiovisual family, five works and five authors committed to education and values as shown by their works, which are also entertaining stories of great technical and artistic quality.

In this way, the Virgen del Carmen Cultural Centre will

be transformed into a cinema where teenagers will be able to see and appreciate these wonderful works and interact with their authors. We will have three filmmakers in person, and two who will do so by means of an explanatory video that will take place after the viewing of the short films. The filmmakers will talk about their motivations, the story behind each work and the values they convey. The students will be able to ask questions to the filmmakers and the organisation of Torrevieja Audiovisual will moderate the activity, inviting the teenagers to participate actively by asking them different questions related to the works they have just seen.

Cinema and education in values

Empathy Award

At the entrance to the auditorium, all students will be given a leaflet with information about the event, including the programme and a space where they can write. This space is intended for each student, in their class, after finishing the transversal activity, to indicate the title of the play that has most caught their attention and what values they consider it conveys. The tutor of each class will be in

charge of choosing the student who considers that he/she has expressed him/herself best, especially valuing empathy, and will provide the completed booklet to the organisation of Torrevieja Audiovisual in the Classrooms, which will be in charge of evaluating all the proposals received.

The Torrevieja Audiovisual film festival, with the collaboration of the filmmakers as an advisory committee for their works, will award a diploma with the title Empathy Award for the student’s ability to understand and value the feelings of others.

Shipmates (S/M’s) spent another exhilarating time together at Little Italy for a Menu del Dia (MdD) , however they saved having to do some ‘sea time’ by not needing to sail half way across the Mediterranean, as this Little Italy was near Cabo Roig.

The event was oversubscribed and with the restricted number of 40 S/M’s in attendance the restaurant was ‘full to the gunwales’ or in civilian terms ‘busting at the seams’. Nevertheless, the restaurant staff coped admirably, and the scran (food) was ‘top notch’.

As you can imagine, the noise level built up to a crescendo, which was deafening when it reached time to Draw the Raffle!!!!

The S/M’s all left in ‘high spirits’ and that included the one’s that had not been drinking alcohol; and were ‘biting at the bit’ in anticipation of the next MdD.

The Royal Naval Association (RNA) has a ‘Free Membership’ and is a UK Registered Charity 266982.

Although primarily founded for serving and retired Royal Naval personnel with the moto ‘Once Navy Always Navy’, it also welcomes all serving or retired military Veterans and civilians alike.

The local overseas branch in Torrevieja area (RNATB) has a diverse mix of members, who are a friendly and engaging group of people who embrace their ethos of Comradeship, Loyalty, Patriotism & Unity while enjoying a verity of social events.

Cruz de Navajas, the last Mecano tour

The musical show will be on stage from 11 to 14 May at the Municipal Theatre of Torrevieja.

More than 30 songs, 25 artists on stage: 8 great voices, an extraordinary band of live musicians, a spectacular corps de ballet, and all framed in a stunning and magnificent scenography. Tickets are on sale on the web www. culturatorrevieja.com

On May 11, will take place at the Municipal Theatre of Torrevieja, the first of only five functions that will represent the musical show Cruz de Navajas, the last Mecano, as a new cultural offer for the city.

This was presented at a press conference in the ambiguous area of the Theatre by the Councillor for Culture, Antonio Quesada, the director of Culture Torrevieja, Lalo Díez, producer and general manager of the company, John Varo, and singer Mikel Herzog Jr, who at the end of the press conference has performed one of the songs of the musical, the theme “Air”.

The show, seen by more than 300,000 people, and which has already passed through the cities of Zaragoza, Cuenca, Barcelona, Huelva and Salamanca among others, continues its tour throughout Spain, betting on Torrevieja in its tour of more than 20 cities planned for 2023.

But, what is Cruz de Navajas, the last Mecano? is the greatest recognition to the greatest Spanish group of our heritage.

Cruz de Navajas is a large-format musical show, which also represents

the creation of a new genre within the musical show. A surprising and groundbreaking audiovisual format, where the great songs of Mecano are listened to and recreated, each one of them interpreted with original and amazing staging, thanks to advanced technology, and the most exquisite talent and sensitivity.

More than 30 songs, 25 artists on stage: 8 great voices, an extraordinary band of live musicians, a spectacular corps de ballet, and all framed in a stunning and magnificent scenography of LED screens with projected videos, which transform each and every one of the numbers at every moment, to turn them into amazing musical pieces.

Cruz de Navajas also means the creation of a new genre within the musical show, because, for the first time, a storyline is not used to link each song, but each one of them is transformed into a particular universe and story.

It is a unique show. A surprising and groundbreaking audiovisual format, where the great songs of Mecano are listened to and recreated, each one of them interpreted with original and amazing staging, thanks to advanced technology, and the most exquisite talent and sensitivity.

The scenography, designed specifically for Cruz de Navajas, is one of the fundamental elements of the show, not only for the formidable visual impact it produces on the spectator, but also for its importance as a complement to each number, and visibly accompanies each piece of music.

This is possible thanks to the high resolution LED screens. Part of the creation of Cruz de Navajas is the filming of videos in 4 and 8k, which are projected on the screens to accompany some of the songs, and which could be worthy finalists in any short film festival. These screens, of more than

100m2, have the peculiarity of being transparent, which also allows them to play with the elements of the stage, showing, depending on the number, what is in front of or behind them.

Tickets are on sale on the website www.culturatorrevieja.com.

Cruz de Navajas is, without a doubt,

one of the best musical shows created and produced entirely in Spain.

Niina´s transformation

1. Why did you decide to lose weight?

I have been yoyo-dieting all my life and many times got very near my goal... but never did. BUT, I never had a personal coach before, who has been my supporter and this, to me, was the real difference.

2. What made you choose Slim4Life?

I have tried every weight loss diet going. I never found one that taught me how to LIVE after I had lost the weight ...with Slim4life I could lose weight very quickly and safely, getting all the extra vitamins and proteins and avoiding extra carbohydrates. Most importantly, I have learnt the secret of maintenance.

3. What were your favourite products?

Everything! Porridges, cookies and the delicious Protein bars. I also love all the meals. They are in one meal bag with spices and include everything. Only add water. It’s so easy and quick. I love this!

Everything has been counted for you!

I love the supplement range of vitamins and products, such as the Coffee Range. Slim4life is a holistic way to the best life you can attain.

I love the Slim Diet Coffee. I come from the country that has the most coffee drinkers in the world and I love all the Slimming coffee products! Plus, they help me lose weight.

5. What did you learn?

Lots of things... example the internal organs, which are not visible, you have to work and clean your liver and other organs to create better results. To help water drinking there is nice Vitamin water- powder with berries flavour and it tastes like juice... but its only water!!

The weekly consultations were invaluable. This is what coaching should be like. I know my Slim4life coach is The Best!

This technology has made it easier for drivers to find a parking space and park their cars.

When should you replace the brakes?

If you have been driving for any length of time, there is a good chance that you have wondered at some point if it’s time to replace the brakes on your vehicle. It’s easy to overlook potential problems with your vehicle because it gets used to often and can mask its own issues out of habit. Taking the time to do regular check-ups is key to keeping your vehicle in peak condition, brake pads included. When checking your brakes, there are several signs that indicate a need for service or replacement:

1. Unusual Squealing Noise: A squealing noise from your brakes usually means there is not enough friction material left on the pads and they need to be replaced soon. It might also be a sign that the rust has grown thick between pad and rotor which needs attention as this will reduce effectiveness over time.

2. Vibrations During Braking: Strange vibrations during braking might indicate an issue with one of your vehicles wheels such as warping rotors or wheel bearings going bad; however, it could also indicate worn out brake pads or pie shaped discs.

3. Longer Stopping Distances: This should be self-explanatory but if you

find yourself needing more space than normal when stopping then it is likely due to worn out brake pads and something should be done immediately.

4. Pulling in one Direction During Braking: If your car pulls towards one side during braking then it could mean that one set of pads has reached the end of its life span and needs replacing sooner rather than later. It could also indicate an imbalance within the brake system or a caliper not working properly so either way make sure you take a look at those brakes before continuing on.

5. Faulty Warning Lights: Enable dashboard warning lights to lead drivers and alert them know when something isn’t right with their car’s brakes; although these should not always be relied upon entirely as other circumstances may cause them to come on inaccurately such as low fluid levels that are unrelated to performance/safety concerns (in this case suspicious noises should be looked into).

At least once every year, check all around your car’s tires including observing pad thickness and brake fluid level via reservoir lid located inside

engine bay - following manufacturer instructions whenever appropriate; if problem persists after double checking all parts related then take car into nearby garage for full diagnostic checkup!

Remember: no matter what type of vehicle you drive, taking care of its important components – including brakes – should always be high up on the list of priorities so don’t overlook signs like strange noises, longer stopping distances & blinking light alerts - act fast before further damages occur!

Torrevieja U3A Hiking and Walking Group

Imanyo Golf Society “Denise Tyrrell Memorial Plaque” at Altorreal

On a day when the temperature around Torrevieja hit an all-time high, 24 members of the Torrevieja U3A Hiking and Walking group set off from Torremendo to explore one of the walking trails around the Pedrera reservoir.

Their elevated trek afforded them magnificent views of the turqoise-coloured reservoir and the surrounding countryside which included almond and citrus trees and the occasional rabbit and bird of prey. A well-earned rest was taken by

the group in a well-frequented bar in Torremendo after their three hour circular walk.

The Torrevieja u3a Hiking and Walking Group schedules walks from September to May.

More information about the group, as well as all the other activities that the members of the Torrevieja U3A can participate in, can be found on the Torrevieja U3A website.torreviejau3a. org. or a visit to the Facebook pages will provide similar information plus details on how to join the association.

Lo Crispin Golf Society at Altorreal

On the 3rd.of May 26 members competed in the 2nd. round our 2023 Eclectic Competition. The weather for playing golf was almost perfect, although some of us, including myself, struggled in the increasing heat of the afternoon. I also struggled with the pace of some of the greens. I don’t think I was alone in this though. We returned to the Lo Crispin Tavern following the game as usual, where the always quality tapas was served by the friendly, helpful staff and the prizes for the day were distributed.

Andy Murray: Former World No 1 beats Tommy Paul to clinch first Challenger Tour title in 18 years

Andy Murray beats World No 17 Tommy Paul in Aix-en-Provence to win his first title since Antwerp in 2019 and his first ATP Challenger Tour title in 18 years.

Andy Murray won his first ATP Challenger Tour title since 2005 as the former world No 1 beat Tommy Paul in a deciding set in Aixen-Provence on Sunday.

The Scot, a late wild card into the secondtier tournament after his first-round defeat in the Madrid Open, came through 2-6 6-1 6-2 in an hour and 56 minutes in his first clay-court final since the 2016 French Open.

Victory is set to move him closer to the top 40 in the world, thereby increasing his hopes of being seeded for Wimbledon later this summer.

“This last year, 18 months has been a bit of struggle with my game. But [my team] have been there supporting me and working with me to try and get better,” Murray said on court, per the official ATP website. “We keep going from here.”

It marked Murray’s second final of

the year after his was beaten by Daniil Medvedev in Doha in February, while serving as his third win over a top 20 opponent with Paul ranked 17th in the world.
