St. John Standard for Industry Designed for industry, oil patch workers, nursing students, health care professionals and general public requiring Standard First Aid or certification OFA Level 1 equivalent, this dual certificate prepares you to offer first aid at the scene of an accident without special equipment and professional medical help. Mental Health First Aid Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) trained employees will be equipped to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health issues and provide help to a person developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis, including those related to substance use. The course will also work on reducing the stigma around mental illness and create mental wellness within the workplace. Wilderness First Aid The best and most comprehensive course of its kind! WFA offers relevant and realistic first aid training for seasonal outdoor activities or short term wilderness pursuits. Wilderness First Responder - Recertification (Wilderness Advanced First Aid Bridge) Need to recertify? The four-day WAFA course will recertify all current Wilderness First Responders and Wilderness Advanced First Aiders. A completed pre-course study guide is required prior to course start. You will receive a course ID number and password to access your pre-course material upon registration. If you are certified through another wilderness medical training provider, you may ‘bridge’ to a WFR certification provided your certification was at least 64 hours in length, and achieved or recertified within the last three years. S100 Fire Suppression Upon successful completion of this two-day course, the candidate will demonstrate a basic knowledge of wildland fire suppression organization structure, wildfire behaviour, plus suppression and safety procedures. Haul Truck Operator Program This four-week program offers an introduction to safe and efficient operation of a haul truck in a surface mining or oil sands site. Haul truck operators are in demand in mines across Canada, including the Alberta oil sands. Haul truck operator is the common entry-level job in a mine site. Utilizing state-of-the-art motion-based simulators, classroom-led and online modules include safety and operating procedures, warning systems and protocols, assessing and reacting to alarms, emergency scenarios, walk-around inspections and cab controls, start-up, shutdown, braking, steering, tire care, dumping and loading procedures. Our program uses simulators for both Komatsu and Caterpillar haul trucks, which are most commonly used in large surface pit operations in Canada. Avalanche Skills Training 1 Each year increasing numbers of skiers, snowboarders and climbers venture into the mountains to enjoy snow-related outdoor recreation. Regrettably, each year some of these people die in avalanches. AST programs are an essential first step to safe backcountry use in the winter. Avalanche Skills Training 2 This is a hands-on course featuring extensive practical field experience augmented with one day of classroom theory and discussions. This course builds on the knowledge and skills learned in AST 1 by exploring more advanced topics and snow tests. The curriculum is designed to give a solid grounding in the essentials and is based on the requirements set out by Avalanche Canada. Your instructors are certified through the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides as well as the Canadian Avalanche Association. This program is suitable for those who have taken the AST 1 program, who have solid experience in the backcountry and who dedicate significant free time to recreating in the backcountry. Certified Lash Artist This classic eyelash extension class is a 16-hour class with an additional five-hour online certification on Eye Anatomy, Conditions and Basic Eye Diseases, written by a board of certified doctors. The theory part of your class teaches safety, hygiene and technical skills that will set you apart from the average lash artist. You will learn how to design a perfect set, how to isolate so no lash damage occurs, and how to educate your client in keeping beautiful healthy lashes for a lifetime. Upon successful completion of the two-day training and submission of six case studies, you will be a certified Lash Artist through Lashed Training and Distributing Ltd., Fernie. To help you succeed in this very fast growing industry, you will be groomed to become an elite lash artist through our ongoing mentoring program. Two models are required for the course - one for each day. If you cannot provide models, please let us know so we can help you out. Included in the tuition: one basic eyelash extension kit (approximate value $800), all manuals, certificate upon completion of case studies, two full days of extensive hands-on training and continued mentoring throughout your career. Kitchen Assistant is a four-week program providing students with the skills and knowledge required to fill entry-level food service positions. Certification for Food Safe Level 1 and WHMIS are included. Learn the basic workings of a kitchen, from equipment recognition and use, cleaning and sanitation processes and commercial dishwashing, to receiving and storage practices.
