The Tuck Team is a unique Charlottean family team comprised of Janet and Butch Tuck and their two daughters, Janelle Tuck Lenhart and Melissa Tuck Murphy. It began with Butch being licensed in the 70’s and then Janet in 1990. Janelle and Melissa worked at their first real estate firm, Bissell Hayes, when they were at Myers Park High School and where they saw the fun and excitement of helping families with their real estate needs.

Janet grew up in Charlotte and has seen our beloved city grow and change over the years. Janet has the unique perspective to know many neighborhoods since their creation and loves to help newcomers to Charlotte find their perfect area of town and dream home.

After graduating from college, the girls moved back to Charlotte and joined the team. Melissa joined in 2005 and is thrilled to be able to sell real estate in her hometown. Janelle completed our team in 2014 and with her past experience in interior design in Atlanta and at Circa, she brings a special skill to help our clients.

My parents moved us to Charlotte when I was 4 years old from the mid-west and everyday I am very thankful for this move! I have witnessed the positive growth over the years and am proud to call Charlotte our home. Both of our children grew up here, went to public schools, college, married, had children and moved back to our beautiful city! Now we are The Tuck Team selling real estate at the #1 firm in Charlotte!

The North Carolina mountains and N.C. and S.C. beaches are my favorite vacation spots – we are lucky to live close to both. Blowing Rock, Linville and Blue Ridge Parkway areas are only a short 2 1/2 hour drive to the where the temperatures are much cooler in the summer and offers fun skiing in the winter. Our east coast beaches are numerous and are only a 4-5 hour drive from Charlotte.

I am so fortunate to have a wonderful group of friends that like to play dominos, eat dinner, see movies and travel together. I love to have small dinner parties, family dinners and spend time with my 4 grandchildren.

Butch and I were married in 1969. We have two daughters who grew up in the house we still live in! Melissa and her family purchased a house across the street from us and Janelle and her family purchased a home directly behind us. We have created a fun place to live with an awesome tree house, fire pit, outdoor movie screen, zip line, 6 seater road-ready golf cart, front porch living, 8 chickens and 2 rabbits. We call it the Tuck Compound.

I became a licensed real estate broker as a junior in college and except for time as an infantry officer in Viet Nam have been in this business ever since. Our family has lived in the same house since our daughters were born. It has evolved with one daughter and her family living across the street and the other in a conjoined yard behind. The “Tuck Compound” as neighbors refer to it comes complete with: tree house where neighbors whine and wine, fire pit, large screen on side of garage, zip line, front porch living area and egg laying chickens in the rear yard. Also I write “Short Short” Stories for amusement, short because my friends can’t stay awake too long when reading them.

I love getting to know clients during the buying and selling process and providing them with all the information they need to make the right decisions. It is such a great feeling to partner with them and help them feel comfortable during the process of buying and selling their home.

I am so proud and love being a Charlotte native. It has been incredible to witness the growth and development of our city over my lifetime.

I grew up visiting my grandmother at Grandfather Mountain and have many fond memories there. Now I love spending time there with my own children and was married there in August 2014.

I love taking family walks with my husband, teenage boys and dog. Although it doesn’t happen as often as I wish, it’s so special to have that quiet time together without any distractions, even though it doesn’t last long!

I lost my left leg below the knee in 2010 to a flesh eating bacteria and spent 40 days in a hospital fighting for my life. I am thankful to be alive and each day is such a gift! I have three different prosthetic legs that I wear for various activities including tennis, running, and hiking!

I attended Myers Park High School and had an opportunity to leave school at lunchtime and go to work at Bissell Hayes Realtors. That began my love for real estate and I always knew I wanted to continue in my mom’s shoes one day. After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill I moved to Atlanta and worked for Smith Barney in 2005, my husband and I moved to Charlotte and I immediately got my real estate license and joined the Tuck Team.

I grew up visiting my grandmother at Grandfather Mountain and have many amazing memories there. Now I love spending time there with my own family. It’s only 2 hours from Charlotte and we love playing golf, tennis, fishing, and hiking while we are there. The scenery isn’t bad too, and the fresh mountain air makes it a great place to rest and rejuvenate.

I love playing golf with my family. I have 2 young daughters and we have made a Sunday afternoon tradition of playing golf together and it’s so fun. It’s a great way to spend a few hours together and connect and “try” to play the challenging but addictive game. As my dad always says, we like to “count the happy shots.”

I love to organize. If I wasn’t a Realtor, I would probably own my own organization company. I also love making jewelry, cooking, gardening, and building things. I love to put together anything from IKEA. It’s so fun.

The family team began with Janet and Butch Tuck, who modeled successful Charlotte real estate careers for their daughters, Melissa Tuck Murphy and Janelle Tuck Lenhart.

Janet grew up in Charlotte and has seen the city grow and change over the years, allowing her to know many neighborhoods since their inception. Melissa and Janelle discovered their passion for real estate in high school while helping their parents in the office. In 2005, Melissa was thrilled to start selling real estate in her hometown. Janelle, who previously worked in interior design in Atlanta and Charlotte, completed the team in 2014.

It’s all in the family for Janet Tuck and her husband, Butch. Not only do their two daughters work with them on the Tuck Team at Cottingham Chalk in Charlotte, but one daughter and her family live behind them, and the other one and her family live across the street.

“We have so much in common that working together has been easy,” says Janet. “We go together for our weekly tours, REALTOR® luncheons and events, and even share an office.”

Clifford “Butch” Tuck, Jr. began the family real estate path when he received his real estate license in Georgia in 1966 as a junior in college. In 1972, he got licensed in North Carolina.

He believes the biggest pluses to all four of them working together remains the flexibility of time and ease of communicating on business topics. But, as the token male in the group, “being able to choose my communication opportunities wisely is important,” he says.

Watching his daughters through the years, he has seen their skills exceed his when it comes to patience with clients, persistence and organization in transactions.

Melissa Murphy began as an agent in 2005 but worked in her mother’s real estate office during high school.

“A lot has changed technology-wise. I remember handwriting appointments on cards and flipping through huge MLS books to see new listings,” she says.

The 24-7 life of a REALTOR® can be challenging for a young mother, but with her parents and sister living so close, she has “so many babysitters” when she needs to leave to be with clients.

Janelle Lenhart is the latest to join the team in 2014. Her

background in interior design brings a special and unique perspective to the team.

“Over the decades, my parents have witnessed Charlotte and the surrounding areas develop and grow, and they know the history behind many of the neighborhoods,” she says.

Janet says that the family works together sometimes and works separately in other situations.

“We work with clients downsizing and upsizing and moving to Charlotte. My husband is the broker-in-charge in our company, so he is here to keep us straight,” she says. “Janelle, Melissa and I are the ones working with clients buying or selling their homes.”

“Having a team for our clients is an added bonus. They receive more personalized attention and greater access to knowledge,” Murphy adds.

The family did talk about the ups and downs when their daughters were thinking about getting their licenses. The parents stressed the importance of being professional, knowledgeable, a good listener, having empathy, being organized, building relationships, being a problem solver, and following The Golden Rule.
