The Vikings, History on Your Doorstep exhibition at Ancient House opens on Saturday 16th July. Visitors will be able to find out about the area on the eve of the attacks in the 9th century, the invading ‘Great Viking Army’ which overwintered in Thetford before moving around the country, and life in the major Viking period town of Thetford. Find out about the attacks on Thetford in 1004 and 1010 by King Swein Forkbeard (who you will know from the town sign). The exhibition includes items on loan from the British Museum - Viking brooches and a Viking sword from a Viking period burial at Santon, near Thetford, and a beautiful gold plaque found at Brandon from the time of the first Viking attacks.
