This project led by the Brecks, Fen Edge & Rivers Landscape Partnership will see the removal of in-river structures and create fish passes on the River Lark to enable the free flow of native wild brown trout and other river species. It also provides a unique opportunity for six schools within the BFER scheme to learn about the local significance of European Eels, life cycle, habitat and role in the aquatic food chain. The Schools including Drake Primary, Barnham CEVC Primary and Forest Academy will be provided with specialist lessons and fish tanks to raise young eels in the classroom, with a river visit to release them into the River Lark.

The aims of this project include improved fish and eel passages, restoring eels to the rivers within the scheme area, engaging young people with their native wildlife, as well as a way of facilitating learning and raising awareness of how people’s actions can impact the water system and how they can help improve water quality in their local area. Sea trout and eels are iconic species in Brecks rivers and indicators of their health. For more information visit: www.brecks.org

Neutering your cat can prevent a number of conditions and avoid costly vet treatments

To avoid all this suffering it is best to have your cat neutered as soon as it is big enough – usually by 4 months of age when it weighs 2 kgs. That goes for male cats too as they are prone to other diseases if left unneutered. If you need help or advice, or assistance in the cost of neutering, please call us on 01842 810018.
