It’s hard to believe that Mary Poppins, the Disney film, came out 60 years ago. With its amazing score, brilliant mix of live-action and animation, charming characters and the perfection of Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, it’s no wonder the film has become a beloved masterpiece around the world. And long before the show premiered on Broadway, my parents were subjected to hours of my one-man live show to the movie soundtrack in our basement where I played all the parts. Now that I’m a bit older and hopefully wiser, it’s hard to believe I missed so much of the messages Mary Poppins teaches. Messages we can all use today. Mary Poppins teaches us there is magic in the world if you just take the time to notice. Imagination is a good thing; it can solve almost any problem that puzzles you. Business is important, success is nice, but family-time is precious. We’re so glad you’re here with us at the Count Basie Center – and we’re proud to be a great way for families to spend time together while celebrating the amazing talent within our community.
Enjoy the magic.
