reconciliation action plan
Reconciliation is a priority for our organisation and inclusive of all the work we do. We recognise and respect that we are living and creating on Aboriginal Lands in South Australia and we are committed to working together to honour the living cultures of First Nations peoples. We aim to increase respect, understanding and equality of opportunity between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and the wider communities in which we work through partnership, dialogue and action. We believe the arts have an important role to play in reconciliation. By promoting the culture of First Nations peoples through our touring productions, exhibitions and cultural development activities, we strive to increase understanding and knowledge within the wider community. Through a program of education and cultural sharing activity for staff we will increase awareness and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture in our organisation and enable our staff to share that knowledge with the wider community.
get involved! Reconciliation Week 27 May – 3 June 2015 National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to explore how each of us can join the national reconciliation effort. www.reconciliation.org.au/nrw

Outlaw, larrikin, national icon. Meet the man behind the legend. Kelly is a daring new stage production revealing the intimate details of Ned Kelly’s last night alive. Ned Kelly sits in his prison cell. Tomorrow he is going to be hanged. But his final night in prison is interrupted by the arrival of his brother Dan, disguised as a priest. Supposedly killed at the siege of Glenrowan, Dan is intent on moving north to Queensland and forgetting his past. To do so, he needs Ned’s blessing and forgiveness. But the last time they saw each other, Dan tried to shoot Ned dead. So begins a brutal brotherly confrontation. Facing sins of their past, each blames the other for his downfall. And neither escapes unharmed. History tells us that Dan and Ned never saw eye to eye and there is also myth that Dan escaped the fire and disappeared to Queensland. This makes for a brilliantly charged premise, explored beautifully on stage, weaving Kelly fact, theory and myth while exploring masculinity, brotherhood and the dangerous dynamic of mateship.

Boomstars are the latest pop group for kids. Their young audience get to shake, shout and travel around Australia doing the Platypusmania! They’re amazed by Josh’s moonwalk, robot moves and street dancing and Uh-oh the girls Jaime, Talia and Elyse have them wondering who in the audience has been telling tales. On top of their lungs the kids roar magical phrases, chants, sing and dance along. Boomstars stories are not just told through fun lyrics but very clever choreography to catchy melodies and funky rhythms keeping their young audience fascinated and entertained every minute. Children as young as 3 to 8 years of age are loving Boomstars concerts and leave revved up and singing all the way home according to some parents who engage on Boomstars Facebook page.

Nobody’s looking back at me. I’m in the underworld, now. Brought up on the wrong side of the tracks with an unrelenting limp, Chloe has had to develop a vicious outershell to shield against daily bullying. Moving to a new town in the middle of nowhere hasn’t made things easier. Chloe has bleak hopes for her future until she meets ‘Odd Boy’ Chris, the painfully unpopular son of her new English teacher. An intense bond is forged and the two outsiders begin to see the glimmer of new possibilities amidst their small town underworld. Evoking the tale of Orpheus and Eurydice, Vivienne Walshe’s This is Where We Live is packed with vivid poetic language that is brimming with as much life and energy as its characters. This is an exceptional piece of exciting new Australian writing.

Andy and Terry had such a ball with their crash-landing entry into the world of theatre with The 13-Storey Treehouse, they’re back for more. Thirteen storeys more, in fact. AND YOU’RE INVITED! This means more INVENTIONS – like the 78 flavour icecream dispensing robot, the brain bamboozling Maze of Doom (not to mention the self-inflating underpants) and more things to go WRONG – not least of which is the very real possibility that the entire show is a complete and utter disaster. Will Andy and Terry push their friend Jill to her absolute limits? And who is this shady Hector Houtkop, with a really bad pirate accent? And what about ALL THOSE PIRATES? Adapted by award-winning playwright and author Richard Tulloch (The Book of Everything, Bananas in Pyjamas), The 26-Storey Treehouse is brought to you by the same cracker team that delivered the smash-hit stage version of The 13-Storey Treehouse.

The township of Bodgy Creek has seen better days. The mill’s closed, the Tidy Town sign has fallen into the long grass and the weir is as dry as a spinster’s gusset. The dying town is about to claim its next victim – the footy club. Unable to field a full side, the footy club will either have to fold or merge with their arch rivals - the Hudson’s Flat Cougars. But prodigal son coach Troy Carrington has other ideas. To save the club, he embarks on a plan to recruit players from the Asylum Seekers Refuge Centre. Will the new players cope with pre-season training while fasting for Ramadan? Damian tells the Roosters’ story through a variety of characters in this show, which earned him his 3rd Barry Award nomination for the best show at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. The Merger is in development to be made into a feature film.

Karise Eden first captured the nation’s attention in 2012 when she won the television series The Voice at the age of 19 with a uniquely soulful yet powerful vocal style. She broke records for the most number of singles in the national sales chart (previously held by The Beatles) and went on to have the biggest selling album nationally for an Australian artist that year. Karise’s troubled past and the life experiences helped mould her astounding, soulful voice that she refers to as a “lion’s roar”. The talented young singer will tour Australia with her new band performing songs from her new album Things I’ve Done, a selection of songs from her debut album My Journey, and a few surprises. Karise is one of the world’s most promising young female singer-songwriters, don’t miss your chance to see her live in concert!

True stories from the men who flew in World War Two Based on his two best-selling books, Flak and Fly, Michael Veitch presents Flak, in which he takes on the roles of former airmen, recounting their extraordinary, true and largely untold stories of combat in the air war of 1939-45. Veitch’s passion has always been the air war, and over the course of three years and two books he interviewed more than 50 pilots, bomb aimers and air gunners, almost all of whom had never revealed their wartime adventures to anyone, including, in some cases, their own families. The stories they told are truly amazing. Veitch has an academic background in history, but made his name with ABC’s cult hit The D Generation, followed by Fast Forward, Full Frontal and more.
