RECONCILIATION ACTION PLAN

GET INVOLVED! Reconciliation is a priority for our organisation and inclusive of all the work we do. We recognise and respect that we are living and creating on Aboriginal Lands in South Australia and we are committed to working together to honour the living cultures of First Nations peoples. We believe the arts have an important role to play in reconciliation. By promoting the culture of First Nations peoples through our touring productions, exhibitions and cultural development activities, we strive to increase understanding and knowledge within the wider community. Through a program of education and cultural sharing activity for staff we will increase awareness and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture in our organisation and enable our staff to share that knowledge with the wider community. TRUE STORIES FROM THE MEN WHO FLEW IN WORLD WAR TWO Based on his two best-selling books, Flak and Fly, Michael Veitch presents Flak, in which he takes on the roles of former airmen, recounting their extraordinary, true and largely untold stories of combat in the air war of 1939-45. Veitch’s passion has always been the air war, and over the course of three years and two books he interviewed more than 50 pilots, bomb aimers and air gunners, almost all of whom had never revealed their wartime adventures to anyone, including, in some cases, their own families. The stories they told are truly amazing. Veitch has an academic background in history, but made his name with ABC’s cult hit The D Generation, followed by Fast Forward, Full Frontal and more. He is a regular guest presenter and interviewer on ABC morning radio.

HEALING HEARTS AND MINDS

BY DAMIEN SHEN 30 OCTOBER - 6 DECEMBER 2015

11 DECEMBER 2015 - 27 JANUARY 2016 SUSANNE WEGENER & JANET RALEIGH

Damien Shen is a proud South Australian Aboriginal and Chinese man of Ngarrindjeri descent and draws both of these powerful formative influences into his practice as an artist. Damien’s drawing technique uses a pastel base that is then worked up and worked back with erasers and black and white charcoals, to create a dynamic, shifting tension between black and white, shadow and light. It is out of this interplay that the form of the picture starts to emerge and lines coalesce to form not just an image but a narrative - a reflection of an identity that, like the drawing, is only arrived at through a long process of creation, erasure, and struggle.

The exhibition features 16 black and white prints on vinyl displayed on pvc frames. The prints have a strong message for women about self esteem and self empowerment. The images depict women’s emotions through facial expressions and the accompany text provokes thought about how women use their power to have their needs met. Features 2d, 3d, projection and audio components.
