Tip: Insert stems around all sides of the pillow so the design is balanced on the vessel and you will no longer need to hold it in place.
Start with an empty pillow resting on top of the vessel. Hold the pillow in place and insert stems in an X shape.

Establish, with the first few stems, the shape you ultimately want.

Insert initial stems into the egg, being sure to thread each stem through two sides of the egg. Stabilize the egg with your thumb and forefinger.

Go to town with big statement blooms, winding vines and grasses.
Use the pillow as a binding point for unruly vines and branches.

Switching vessels is easy! We tried a few options; this was a favorite.
Continue to crisscross stems within grid, making sure they feed into your hand. Work from the back to the front, leaving space for focal blooms.
Start to incorporate greenery and texture, fortifying the structure of the design. By this point, the design will rest in your hand, supporting itself.

Add textured greens and colorful elements. Try experimenting with delicate or wispy varieties.

Add statement blooms, color, trailing vines or branches. If you run out of room in the structure, add stems around the outside edges.

Trim stems. Make sure the mechanic is completely hidden – a collar of greenery can be added at the base.
Tie off with ribbon for a finished look.
