Crabtree Selected as 2016 School Counselor of the Year Kentucky Rep The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) was pleased to announce Gina Crabtree was selected as the Kentucky state representative for the 2016 School Counselor of the Year program. Crabtree is the school counselor at W. R. McNeill Elementary in Bowling Green Independent Schools. Nominations for the School Counselor of the Year awards program were submitted by the state school counselor associations. State representatives were selected based on several criteria, including: school counseling innovations, effective school counseling programs, leadership and advocacy skills and contributions to student advancement. “School counselors make significant contributions to the overall well-being of students and their success,” said Richard Wong, Ed.D., executive director, American School Counselor Association. “They have unique qualifications and skills that allow them to address students’ academic achievement, career development and social/emotional needs.” “The selection of Mrs. Crabtree as the KY Counselor of the Year is a credit to her hard work and commitment to the students at W. R. McNeill,” said Superintendent Gary Fields. “She works tirelessly to meet the diverse needs of all students on a daily basis. Three fourth grade classrooms at Richardsville Elementary have been named to the Renaissance National Honor Roll for outstanding performance in advancing students’ achievement in reading. Renaissance Learning, an assessment and learning analytics company based in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, recognizes educators who have led students to successfully meet or exceed data targets that research shows lead to accelerated student growth in reading and math. The classrooms of Ms. Berman, Ms. Martin, and Ms. Wallace earned this distinction by guiding effective implementation of the independent reading practice in Accelerated Reader 360, a K-12 program that motivates students and personalizes reading practice while enabling educators to monitor comprehension and growth. Renaissance Learning provides educators with research-based data targets for reading and math practice that lead to an effective and sustainable implementation. Those who successfully led their students to achieve these targets earn National Honor Roll status and receive a certificate and celebratory items to recognize their students’ success.

City Schools McCloughan Among Award Winners Michele McCloughan, a T. C. Cherry Elementary writing teacher, is among 24 outstanding Kentucky educators to receive the Ashland, Inc. Teacher Achievement Award. Judging for the Teacher Achievement Award was conducted in August and entrants’ applications included information on the nominees’ teaching philosophies, teaching experiences and involvement in their respective communities, as well as letters of recommendation from peers, students, parents, administrators and others.
