That Dial! FACT OR FICTION... Setting your thermostat at a very low temperature will cool off your house faster? MYTH... Lowering the thermostat only causes your air conditioner to run longer, and that’s a big energy waster. I nstead:

• Set the thermostat to around 78-degrees (depending upon the comfort level needed in your home). You can save about three percent on the cooling portion of your electric bill for each degree the thermostat is set higher than 72-degrees. • Clean or replace filters at least once a month. • Keep lamps and heat-generating appliances (like the television) away from the thermostat. They can produce a false reading of the room temperature, forcing the air conditioner to work harder.
