The WKU Food Pantry serves students, faculty, and staff experiencing food insecurity. Food insecurity means that people lack access to enough food for an active, healthy lifestyle, going or eating small

without meals, unsatisfying meals. There are recent and on-going studies to help us better understand the extent of food insecurity among college students, and this research indicates that anywhere from 25-50% of college students are food insecure. This situation is real for a number of WKU students, although it is difficult to know how many. Some indication is provided by the approximately 25 visits to the WKU Food Pantry by students in the past 8 weeks (some repeat visitors but mostly different individuals). Everyone should know that this service exists. There is no reason for any student to go hungry or spend time wondering where he or she is going to get his or her next meal. The WKU Food Pantry is located at the Office of Sustainability at 503 Regents Ave. Hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10-2 and Sunday 4-6. Your help is needed to keep the Food Pantry filled with good food. Presently, there is plenty in the way of canned corn and beans and fresh tomatoes, peppers, and other vegetables from the Project Grow Community Garden. However these ingredients in themselves do not make a meal. In conclusion, the WKU Food Pantry and Project Grow Community Garden are sustained by volunteer support. Please spread the word that these programs can always use help, whether organizing shelves, helping with promotion, weeding, or harvesting, for an hour or an afternoon. No matter your skills or how much time you have, they welcome your support.
