Making Garbage Disposals Smell Better To eliminate odors coming from your garbage disposal, squirt 1/4 cup of lemon-scented dish soap into the disposal, run the water, then turn on the disposal. You can also run lemon or lime rinds through the disposal followed by lots of water. Cleaning Trash Cans The combination of odors from leftover foods and trash can create a pungent stench. It’s no wonder the trash can itself can absorb the smells. To help get rid of these odors, after scrubbing any visible dirt away and letting the trash can dry out thoroughly, sprinkle baking soda in your trash can under the liner. Finish it off by using a disinfecting spray such as Lysol to kill any remaining bacteria that leads to smells. Simmering Herbs and Fruit on the Stove. Simmer water in a small saucepan and add citrus slices and herbs, like lavender or mint. The heat permeates the sweet scent throughout your house, and can easily be customized depending on what ingredients you have in the house.
