—Final Race Instructions & Preparations— YOUR RACE NUMBER Each participant will be issued a race number. Please check to see that all information is correct. If there is an error, please notify the 10K office. Do Not Lose It! Your electronic timing chip will be attached to your race bib. You must have it to pick up your T-shirt. It is also your ticket to the pasta party and race day breakfast. ELECTRONIC CHIP TIMING Each participant in a competitive event must pick up a disposable electronic B-tag attached to their race bib. You must wear your race bib across the start and finish line to activate your chip time. The race bib and chip may be picked up at the Health & Fitness Expo on Friday or at the Start Line on Saturday. Your chip is registered to your race number, so do not trade or switch with someone else. If you choose to race in the 5K and 10K competitive race, you must register twice and wear the corresponding race number/chip for that race. If you decide to run a different race than you registered for, you are required to contact the 10K office at 270-796-2141 to change your race number. MEDICAL INFORMATION Please take the time to fill out the medical information on the back of your race number. Please print and use a ballpoint pen. This information is very important in case of an emergency on the course or elsewhere. WATER STATIONS AND SPLITS Please remember to drink plenty of fluids. Water stations are located at the start and finish line. In addition, water stations are also located at the 1-mile mark in the 5K and at these approximate points in the 10K: 2-mile, 3 1/2-mile, and 5-mile. Port-a-Johns are stationed at the Start. Please respect the homeowners near the Start Line and use the portable units nearby. Timing Splits will be announced during the 10K at each mile marker and at the 5K mark. EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES Mobile ambulance units from The Medical Center’s EMS are stationed throughout the race course and finish line if you need assistance. FUN WALK AND 5K RUN/WALK START The 1.5 Mile Fun Walk and the 5K Run start on University Boulevard, next to WKU dormitories Meredith and Zacharias Hall. Participants in the Fun Walk cannot run, but participants in the 5K Run can run or walk! There will not be separate awards for walkers.
10K START Participants in the 10K should begin to assemble at the Start Line, at 8:20 am. Seeders will place you on the starting line based upon your expected 10K running pace. Seeders will have signs that indicate the number of minutes that, on the average, a runner expects to run each mile. For example, if you expect to run the 10K in 40 minutes, then line up behind the seeder at the start with the sign that shows “6 Minutes.” For the safety of all runners, please do not line up ahead of your realistic pace. Such action will impede the faster runners and also can cause a safety hazard. FINISH LINE CHUTES When you cross the finish line, do not stop. Because of the electonic chip timing, the need for chutes has been removed. Please continue to jog through the entire length of the finish line area and deposit your entry into the $10,000 Cash Prize Drawing. PARKING There is plenty of parking on and around the WKU campus, but please try to arrive early and be aware that most streets around campus close at 7:30 am. See the course map at www.themedicalcenter10kclassic.com. SOUTHERN FOODS PASTA PARTY Your pasta party ticket is on your race number. Everyone is invited to enjoy pasta, garden salad, bread, dessert and beverage. The dinner will be held at the Sloan Convention Center, next to the Health & Fitness Expo, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm on Friday, October 18. Additional tickets may be purchased at the door. Adults are $5, children ages 6-12 are $3, and children under 6 are admitted free. SOUTHERN FOODS POST-RACE SNACK Your ticket to the post-race snack is on your race number. Enjoy snacks, beverages, and entertainment located near the Finish Line area. IN THE EVENT OF RAIN Come anyway because all events will be held, rain or shine! RACE RESULTS October 23, 2013: go to www.premierraces.com for race results. Race results can also be viewed on www.themedicalcenter10kclassic.com. All race results will be final after October 23, 2013. Age division awards will be mailed to individuals after the race.
