support – it is most welcome and is proof of how much the local community appreciate the work HEM volunteers do to ensure there are Christmas Lights in Halesworth every year, some local towns do not have the volunteers and local support that Halesworth have and are therefore unable to raise the necessary money to put up lights and hold a switch-on event.Onthe same day, HEM held a raffle and a very popular lucky dip in the Thoroughfare and again many thanks to everyone for their support, it raised approximately £200 for our funds. Hopefully we will run a similar event during Scarecrow Week in October.

An afternoon at the Opera
To all our valued supporters, please continue to come to our events. I know times are very difficult now but without you all, we cannot do the vital work of defeating cancer.
We are hoping to be able to find somewhere to place a bench in or near the central car park, so our passengers do not have to spend a long time on their feet waiting for the bus. We will be speaking to local Councillors to see if they can help us with this as many people have expressed a desire to have somewhere to sit while waiting for the Hoppa to arrive.
After our summer break, we are back with two events in October.
We will be serving tea/coffee and cakes when you need a sit down and a rest. We are very grateful for donations so please call me to arrange collection of items you may have. Unfortunately, we cannot take electrical items or large items of furniture etc. As always please don't leave jumble items outside the village hall as we only hire the hall on the day so are unaware of things left there.
We are very grateful to Wenhaston Flower Club for hosting a charity night for us on Tuesday 4th October in Wenhaston Village Hall at 6:30pm. This will be a drop in event with stalls and refreshments.
Alexander recently gained his Masters from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music in Greenwich. They were accompanied by Peter Hayward on piano. A packed church heard Alice and Alex sing fourteen solos and duets, extracts from arias and Opera's by five composers.
Halesworth Area Community Transport (HACT)
Finally, we're very pleased to welcome back Shirley Woolterton who was a Bus Buddy on the Day Centre bus for many years before taking a break. Bus buddies help with loading heavy shopping onto the bus, and even taking it to people's doors when we get them home. It's a service that is much appreciated and something we couldn't offer without our fantastic buddies.
There are always bargains to be had at our jumble sales so please come and have a browse.
After the scheduled programme, the two singers were called back for an encore by the appreciative audience.
The Hoppa will continue to run services around Halesworth and Holton with regular visits to the Co-op, town centre car park, the Surgery and Holton bus stop, travelling via Dukes Drive, Bedingfield, Lansbury Road, Old Station Road, Harrisons Lane, Holton Road and other stops at the request of our passengers.

The stalls will include books, bric-a-brac, cakes, raffle, etc we are also hoping to have a few craft stalls. The Cancer Research Christmas Cards will be on sale and the very limited-edition pin badges. Please come and support our charity night and ladies bring the menfolk along too.

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who supported the fun-filled Woodbridge Historic Riverside Festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Here at the The Longshed, as part of the festival, we hosted a sell-out 'Sea Shanties' supper evening, featuring the "Rum Old Boys" who put heart and soul into ensuring we had a great evening, telling us about the origins of the shanties and ensuring we joined in the choruses with gusto! Many thanks to the Rum Old Boys, to the team of helpers who produced an excellent supper, and to all the other helpers behind the scenes who made the evening possible.

five yachts visited Ramsgate, with three boats voyaging further afield to enjoy nearly a week in Belgium, with the Belgium cuisine a particular highlight, as was the weather, visits to local yacht clubs and tram rides into town. Although it was a ten hour passage crossing the channel due to light winds, it was a peaceful (motor) sail for all. Many thanks to cruise captain Andy for arranging such a wonderful trip. The Blackwater cruise is a perennial favourite, visiting Haybridge, Bradwell, Brightlingsea, enjoying pub meals, barbecues, walks and a Klub tournament. A record 16 boats participated, with a pleasant sail up the Wallet, dinner at Colne Yacht Club, a voyage
to Rowhedge (for shallow draft boats), a river dingy trip and a walk to St. Peter's Chapel some of the highlights. Thanks to John for organising this.

Davis teaches English and has had two poetry collections published, the most recent entitled Torches and Sparks in which her own poems reflect on and respond to the poetry of the First World War. The third poet is Julia Duke whose first poetry pamphlet Conversations was published last year. Introduced in 2018, public steering is always a popular part of the rally, with a large number of visitors taking part. Public steering will take place on both days in the Len Murray Arena, which will also feature Nigel Oakley’s heavy horses, N & J Heavy Horses and steam roller barrel rolling.

Leiston Community Defibrillator is the name given to the 24-hour Community Public Accessible Defibrillator located at Leiston Family Hub in Waterloo Avenue. It was installed at the family hub with the permission of Suffolk County Council who own the building, and is currently the sole responsibility of the project organiser. 15 years ago a group of eight local volunteers came together to form The Saxmundham & District Community Interest Company (SADCIC) to improve Saxmundham's community amenities, because (as a not-forprofit social enterprise) SADCIC could access many more additional and supporting funding sources to work with the local authorities.
With a rapidly growing town (and still continuing today) the big community priority desire was for a recognisable multipurpose community centre. After several false starts, with two major funding bid failures to the Big Lottery, SADCIC entered into a partnership with Suffolk County Council (SCC) on a joint project. Initially, in 2011, SCC offered SADCIC the opportunity to take over the under-used Saxmundham Resource Centre in Seaman Road, Saxmundham. This gave SADCIC valuable experience in facilities management. Over the next ten years (with a pandemic interval) SADCIC built up the newly branded Fromus Centre into a thriving community hub, catering for a very diverse set of users.SADCIC continued to work closely with SCC and was a key partner in an exciting project to refurbish the County Buildings in Street Farm Road which included construction of a new Fromus Community Centre in what was formerly the SCC Highways office. At the end of 2021, SADCIC moved into Street Farm Road, within the Saxmundham town centre, and the brand new Fromus Community Centre was officially opened in July this year. The club have also limited supply of karate uniforms, free to those who need them when training. For a limited period we are also offering free karate sessions to children when one of their parents are training (and paying) for the same session.
Sizewell Karate Club received a restart grant from East Suffolk Council. The club has bought additional cleaning/PPE/ equipment, etc. to ensure everyone is Covid-safe when training at the club. Karate is suitable for everyone including adults.
