Eco-friendly holidaymakers will be able to charge their electric car batteries while they sleep at the Bickford Arms, a welcoming country inn with 11 comfortable en-suite guest bedrooms near the cusp of Devon and Cornwall. The green-minded owners have invested in six onsite charging points so their guests can make the most of their time in touring ‘Ruby Country,’ the unspoiled countryside between Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin Moor.

The Bickford Arms is modern and inviting for everyone and their wellbehaved dogs, with the bonus of an acre of forest on the side for those early morning and late evening walks.

The spot is within convenient travelling distance for beautiful beaches, wild moorland and any number of visitor attractions, from the famous fishing village of Clovelly – erstwhile home of ‘The Water Babies’ author Charles Kingsley – to the pirate lair of Jamaica Inn.

Guests in all bedrooms enjoy quality beds and bedding, smart TV, superfast Wi-Fi and beverage making facilities. They also have use of a function room, popular as a meeting point for group holidays.

Hearty breakfasts, lunches, evening meals and Sunday carveries are all cooked with enthusiasm by the Bickford chef team and regularly attract compliments. Owner Keith Reynolds, who runs the premises with his partner, John, says: “We have a big car-park that can accommodate not only cars but also motorhomes. People travelling around in those are often glad to stop over for one night and enjoy the amenities, including proper showers, space and well-cooked food.”
