Rose Castle is situated within 60 acres of private grounds and offers a diverse range of habitats, from manicured gardens to meadows filled with wildflowers, and open expanses for activities, such as al fresco dining, croquet, picnics and drinks.

With towers, mullioned windows, and centuries of history, Rose Castle is a truly breathtaking building. Offering views of the Lake District fells from the windows, there are plenty of places to explore and take those all-important photographs.

The bedrooms have been lovingly restored to the highest standards, with original features such as fireplaces, stone windows, folding wooden shutters and cornicing. Each room has its own colour palette, with hand-crafted upholstery using luxurious fabrics, meaning guests will feel like royalty.

Eden Barn is a 200-year-old Westmorland stone barn that was transformed after the owner’s daughter asked if she could hold her reception there in 2015. The small family-run venue is full of rustic charm, from the giant chandeliers and exposed stone walls to the limestone flagged floor and vaulted ceiling. Outside there are expansive views, a hand-thatched gazebo and landscaped grounds. There’s also a new Couples Lounge with a suspended green lighting canopy and wall of mirrors. This room has a boho, relaxed vibe and is available exclusively throughout the day.

The Chapel, on the first floor of the castle, is a light and airy space flooded with colour from the handmade stained-glass windows. It can seat 80 guests in traditional pews and chairs, and an extra 20 can be accommodated for larger ceremonies.

The State Drawing Room is a stunning setting to hold civil ceremonies, with space to seat up to 70 loved ones.

For smaller services, the Bishops Study offers a warm and intimate setting with space for up to 30 nearest and dearest.

Alternatively, those who want to get married outside in the walled enclave of the Pettinger’s Garden, with views of Helvelyn in the distance, can do so with up to 50 friends and family.

For much larger gatherings, Rose Castle offers a range of marquees, pavilions and tipis to choose from.

Couples who book their wedding in 2023 at Rose Castle will receive five free bedrooms for the night before the wedding.

There’s also a new food preparation area, luxury toilet facilities and underfloor heating throughout. It can seat up to 144 day guests on rustic wooden trestle tables, 136 on round versions and 200 for the evening celebration. Outdoor ceremonies take place under the hand-crafted pergola with a breathtaking scenic backdrop.

Getting out into the outdoors can be a great unique way of celebrating a special occasion, such as an up coming wedding or birthday party. We can also provide a selection of activities throughout the day that revolve around a ‘mission’ type theme with a small prize at the end. Ideal activities for hen/stag parties and special occasions include: raft building, team building/ problem solving, archery, gyhll scrambling, canyoning and canoeing. £40 for half a day and £60 for a full day per person. Based in the Lake District at Coniston.

We also can add to your day, buffet lunch at a small extra cost and changing and showers. Some of our activities can be done in Lancashire such as Rock Climbing and Abseiling. These events are suitable for groups of up to 16 (if you have a bigger group please contact us to see what we can offer).
