TIERS OF JOY

Meet local companies offering cakes and sweet treats

Wedding cakes are quickly becoming something more than just a sweet treat. They are works of art that can incorporate your personalities, theme and the time of year. With so many options to choose from it can feel overwhelming, but don’t panic, there is something out there to suit everyone. Start by thinking about how many guests are attending your big day. Once you have a rough number, your cake maker will be able to advise on how many tiers you need. Don’t worry about there being any leftovers, as you can always provide cake boxes for your guests to take home or you can freeze it.

All of my cakes have a clean finish, coupled with exquisite hand-made sugar floristry, modern art techniques and colour combinations. Providing a fully bespoke and tailored service for your wedding, I work with couples who are looking for that extra special attention to detail, quality and highly-focused customer service for their dream wedding or event. I believe a wedding cake is a symbol of one of the biggest days of your life and lifelong commitment to each other and deserves to be a focal point of your day. Your cake should be as unique as your love story, so no two of my cakes will ever be the same. I use the best quality ingredients, so your cake really will taste as good as it looks.

“Once you’ve seen my work and have decided to book, we will secure the date with a £100 booking fee,” adds Sarah. “I meet my couples around six months before the wedding to finalise the design. It’s great to share any Pinterest boards you have, designs you’ve seen and liked and any elements you’d like to incorporate. I will ask you to select four flavours to try and select which you’d like to share with your guests. We will also discuss the logistics of your big day and how you would like to stage your cake.

“To design a cake, I get inspired by all the details that make your wedding; your save-the-dates, colour palette, flowers and everything else involved in the styling of your big day,” continues Sarah. “These details will be taken into account as we work on your design; we will sit down together and discuss all elements and sketch a final design that is bespoke to you.”

Sugar flowers have always been my passion and have become the main feature of my wedding cake designs along with bespoke bride and groom toppers, which are based on the couple, with the odd pet or two also making an appearance.

“Couples can expect a relaxed and friendly service from Emma’s Cake Design; I offer consultation cake tastings, where couples will receive a hand-drawn illustration of their design, or if they prefer, consultation taster boxes can be produced on request,” continues Emma. “I’m a big believer that you need to both like and trust your wedding suppliers and that is what I try to bring to my business; couples are always welcome to drop me a line if they need reassurance or want to make changes and I always endeavour to make booking your cake an enjoyable (and tasty) experience.”
