Look your big-day best with top expert advice

BRIDAL BEAUTY When should I start thinking about booking my make-up artist, and do you have any tips for finding one that’s a perfect fit? As soon as you confirm the wedding date with your venue, start looking for a make-up artist. I recommend booking a supplier as soon as you find the perfect company for your day, as we get booked up in advance.

Searching for a make-up artist may be tricky as so many amazing companies exist. So it’s essential to find what style you’re after, this could be natural, glowing, matte or glam make-up – this will cut your options down as most businesses specialise in certain looks. Find keywords that best match your style and search for local companies so you don’t have to pay so much in travel fees. If you find pictures of styles you love, check to see who created the looks.

Keep in mind that you’ll spend all morning with this supplier. So, have a phone or zoom call and plan a make-up trial to meet the supplier before the wedding. If you get a good vibe and the make-up is what you’ve asked for, it’s a win-win situation! What advice can you share with me? If you’re struggling with dry skin during the winter months and notice your skin flaking or your make-up is separating throughout the day, try not to over-cleanse or exfoliate too much. Naturally, we think we need to exfoliate more to remove all the dry skin cells, but this creates the opposite effect as our skin becomes drier.

Prep for the foundation is everything. Use a rich moisturiser such as Charlotte’s Magic Cream by Charlotte Tilbury before applying foundation to keep the skin hydrated. Use a wet beauty blender to press in the liquid products rather than a brush. Keep away from matte foundations, which could cling to dry areas. Instead, use a light dewy option and try to keep to cream products rather than powder.

Use a setting spray like Charlotte Tilbury’s Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray throughout the day to refresh your look and hydrate the skin.

Lastly, remember not to start a new skincare routine too close to your big day. Lorella Marella | Lorella Marella MUA https://lorellamarella.com
