Located in Liverpool’s commercial district, The Racquet Club is perfectly positioned for both access to public transport and parking facilities. Close to the famous Waterfront it offers a beautiful and iconic location for your wedding day. It has eight bedrooms, which are individually decorated in a combination of traditional and contemporary styles.

Built in 1859 by Sir James Picton as the headquarters for Sir William Brown, an American shipping merchant, its form is that of an Italianate palazzo. Carved plaques above the windows include Isabella I, Columbus, Bermejo, Vespucci, Cortez, Queen Anacoana and Francisco Pizarro. The venue is delightfully furnished with an eclectic mix of modern and traditional pieces along with an extensive collection of original artwork.

Ceremonies are hosted in the Main Room (130 guests) or the Restaurant (100 guests). But, there is a choice of more intimate spaces for the “I dos” too in the shape of the Club Room (25 guests) or Private Dining Room (25 guests).

When it comes to the celebrations the same four spaces are available depending on the size of your guest list. For receptions the Main Room can hold 138 loved ones, the Restaurant has a capacity of 100, the Club Room has space for 40 and the private dining room can host a wedding breakfast for 24. Speaking of which, the venue offers a free tasting session for you both. Capacity throughout the venue for the evening reception is 250.

LADY LEVER ART GALLERY

Lady Lever Art Gallery, set in picturesque Port Sunlight, has a long and romantic history. Created by soap magnate and discerning art collector William Hesketh Lever, the gallery is dedicated to the memory of his wife Elizabeth. The building boasts a magnificent Beaux-Arts style exterior and features stunning galleries and a beautiful grand hall filled with worldclass art. There are also two striking rotundas with gorgeous glass domes, one of which looks out on to the adjacent fountain and village.

Celebrant-led ceremonies with 50 seated guests can be held in the Main Hall – the Gallery’s most impressive room, which showcases a wonderful collection of Victorian paintings.

The Main Hall can also host wedding breakfasts and receptions, meaning you can enjoy your first meal together as newlyweds in the shadow of works by Millais, Rossetti and Holman Hunt. The space can hold 150 loved ones. For more intimate celebrations, the South Rotunda is an option. With space for 50 nearest and dearest this circular space covered by a stunning dome houses 18th- and 19th-century sculpture. Overlooking the fountain and village, it has its own private entrance and is well-suited to a drinks reception. It’s also worth noting that the venue offers a complimentary food tasting.

WALKER ART GALLERY

With one of the best collections of Pre-Raphaelite art in the world, the Walker Art Gallery is the national gallery of the North of England. Striking features of the interior include two grand staircases and a rotunda located in the atrium, as well as traditional and modern galleries spanning both floors. The awe-inspiring exterior and entrance certainly makes for some impressive wedding photos.

The venue is located in Liverpool city centre, in the heart of the historical St George’s Quarter, a stone’s throw from Liverpool Lime Street station. While it doesn’t hold a ceremony licence it is close to St George’s Hall registry office where you can take care of the legalities. The Gallery does however, welcome celebrant-led ceremonies, which can be hosted in galleries throughout the building for up to 70 loved ones, simply choose your favourite.

Receptions take place on the ground floor, where you can host a wedding breakfast for 80 nearest and dearest. It can be booked as a private space with beautiful high ceilings and world-class artworks. Weddings are available after the venue closes to the public or all day on Mondays. There are also various standing options available throughout for reception guest lists from 80 to 400, and you can enjoy a complementary menu tasting ahead of the big day.
