These talented hair and make-up artists reveal all about summer weddings
Now that restrictions have lifted and we can start putting the finishing touches to our late-summer wedding, please can you tell me what colours and ideas are trending for bridal make-up?
COLOUR-POP
Meet the expert: Caley Soul is a professional bridal and semi-permanent make-up artist based in the Cotswolds specialising in bridal and wedding party make-up.
Caley says: We’re all super excited to get back to doing what we love and for me, that’s helping brides look their best on the biggest day of their lives. It has been a tough time and a bit of a whirlwind for couples who were in the middle of their wedding planning.
A classic beauty look that never goes out of style is a pop of colour with the bold red lip returning for spring/summer 2021 celebrations. This looks stunning with the most popular request so far this year for bridal make-up which is the ‘minimal effort’ look - a natural glow and glossy skin. This takes a bit of preparation before the big day to achieve but it’s well worth the effort because it looks gorgeous.
NATURAL BEAUTY
Meet the expert: Leanne Lishman is the face behind Cotswold Wedding Hair & Makeup based in Cheltenham, dedicated to creating bridal hairstyles and make-up looks for brides and their wedding party.
Leanne says: For many, life in lockdown seems to have reprogrammed how we feel about our skincare and make-up habits with many women embracing their natural selves. With months of wearing very little make-up and focusing on good skincare, we have fallen in love with our natural beauty. Bearing this in mind, many brides now prefer the fresh natural look allowing their skin to shine through, achieved by using soft natural colours and keeping foundation to a minimum, opting for light coverage.
Pink and peach shades of blush keep the focus on the cheeks for a healthy glow and eye make-up is kept minimal with a subtle touch of colour using natural shades. Barely-there tones and soft-pink hues are the go-to options for lipstick for brides wanting a more natural feel, and a tinted lip balm is a great way to add a subtle pop of colour.
I also need some bridal style ideas for my long hair. Bridal hair has also embraced the natural look with many of us now loving our natural curls and waves. For many, the half-up style is still popular working with the hair’s natural texture or by adding some soft, loose waves. Rather than the ultra-smooth styles that we have seen in previous years, many brides want their hair to reflect how they look daily, a recognisable yet more polished version of themselves. If you’re wanting to wear your hair up, it can still look natural with flowing loose strands left around the face. Hair accessories nod to it being a very special occasion with jewelled or pearl designs adding a touch of glamour.
