WATCH THE SPENDS

“The fi rst thing you should do is sit down with your partner and work out your overall budget including how much you want to spend on each individual element. Decide whether there’s anything that you can do yourself in order to save money and see if any friends or family would like to contribute.” – Alexandria Schiefner www.alexandriaevents.co.uk

RETRO CHIC

Not just for grannies – dried fl owers are coming out of the cupboard and being reinvented as a naturally stunning and sustainable option for the big-day décor. Dorset-based Catherine Nix of My Scented Home says, “Dried fl owers lend themselves to being reused afterwards. A hand-tied bridal bouquet can be kept in a vase as a decorative addition to the home and will last for years. The same goes for beautiful willow hearts and garlands made with dried fl owers.” She also suggests: ❤ Potted fl owers look great on the tables or dotted around the venue and can be planted in your garden afterwards or given to guests as a lasting reminder of your day. Lavender is always gorgeous and smells great too.

MOVE OVER KIDS

Once upon a time balloons were mostly for children’s parties – not for a cool, on-trend wedding. Fast forward to 2021 and balloons are popping! A hot addition to the venue, fabulous balloon installations can transform a blank space or tired corner into an eye-catching feature. Great for indoor weddings as a stunning backdrop for fab photos too.

Claire Payne, director of Neon & Blush says, “Eco friendly-balloon installations in any amount of colour or simply natural can make a huge statement at a wedding. By styling them and adding other details, such as fl owers, tassels and foliage to tie in with your theme, they can cover a huge space, make an incredible backdrop, highlight an entrance or be used in a host of different ways.” Check out www.neonandblushweddingsandevents.co.uk

FLOWER POWER

The fl owers are a major part of a stylish wedding, not only to refl ect the season, enhance the theme and colour scheme, but add fragrance and texture to the décor too. Whether it’s living trees and plants to bring the outside in, delicate spring buds and blossom, bold and beautiful summer blooms, or simple winter foliage, there’s something to suit all types of weddings and venues all year round. Increasingly couples are looking for sustainable, eco-friendly options and are choosing seasonal, locally produced fl owers to cut down on air miles. Nicola Waddilove of Hampshire-based Petals & Posies shares her top tips: ❤ Choose the right colour palette for your wedding as this is one of

the most defi ning elements of any wedding. It will set the tone from the invitations through to the table serviettes and everything inbetween. ❤ Think about the season as the colour palette can refl ect this in every way.

Spring pastel tones through to pretty blush shades, with richer hues for the autumn. Christmas gives us traditional reds or maybe choose a white winter wedding. ❤ Share your ideas and seek the advice of your wedding fl orist as they have a wealth of knowledge to combine the most beautiful seasonal blooms to blend and complement your chosen colour scheme.

SUSTAINABLE STYLE

KATHERINE’S TOP TIPS

❤ Talk to your chosen fl orist, choose seasonal fl owers where you can and reuse the bouquets as part of the venue dressing. ❤ Display them in a vase fi lled with water so they’re still fresh for the evening photos. ❤ With many fl orists trying to avoid using fl oristry foam, opt for chicken wire and moss instead, which can create the same stunning arrangements. THE FINISHING TOUCHES
