lilac THE LOOK OF

Harriet and Lee’s wedding had a bright colour palette to set the scene

Harriet and Lee met in a bar in Ampthill when they’d gone out with friends who happened to know each other. “We started chatting and over nine months became such good friends, which later blossomed into a relationship and we became inseparable,” recalls Harriet. On Lee’s 21st birthday, the couple realised how much they felt for one another, “We went to Bournemouth to celebrate with friends. The next day we all went to the beach as it was roasting hot. We went off on our own for a walk, and stood at the end for the pier just talking. Here we both realised we loved each other.”

Fast-forward to the proposal, which was unexpected for Harriet especially when and where it happened. “We were sat watching Love Island in our PJs and Lee was being really nervous. We went up to bed and when I sat on the end Lee got down on one knee! I had always wanted a personal proposal at home, so this was perfect!” she adds.

The big date was set 14th September 2019, with the Church of All Saints, Houghton Conquest and Wrest Park, Silsoe setting the scene. Here, Harriet tells us more about their day...

The venues encompassed everything we wanted in our wedding venues.

Our favours were charity pins for MS Society, which we hold close to our hearts. I made the table plan on a mirror which matched the table settings – these were frames including a picture of our favourite holidays.

Our centrepieces were floral arrangements, a mixture of halo stands and vases displaying white flowers with lilac touches. The cake was a simple white design boasting a fruit cake layer, vanilla, elderflower and lemon and the top tier was red velvet.

I wanted a simple dress without any lace or bling but with pockets! I tried it on and fell in love with it, the buttons went all the way to the end of the train. I accessorised with a long veil, necklace and earrings. My bridesmaids wore long lilac dresses, while the younger bridesmaid had a midi-dress in lilac and flowergirl was in ivory with a lilac ribbon band.

Lee wanted a modern suit without tails and a top hat. Originally he went for a black suit but preferred the navy blue, which he then styled with an ivory tie – his groom’s party had lilac ties.

We had a magician who was brilliant at entertaining the guests. We also had a live acoustic guitarist who sang well-known songs and we heard the guest speak highly of his set – to finish the night we also had fireworks display which was amazing!

On the day we were nervous, but so happy. We had been together such a long time but are still awe with each other.

Harriet’s top tip: “Do what you want to do! Don’t go for the cheapest option for the photographer and videographer. Go for the one you love their style, and get to know them. You’re with them pretty much your whole day and I was so in love with our photos and videos we are so happy with our choices.”

We wanted to let our hair down and enjoy the day. We took ourselves off around 9pm and sat to look into the wedding from a distance and just embraced how amazing it was and had a chat the two of us.
