SUMMER LOVIN’
When Jade and George’s Ibiza wedding was cancelled due to Covid, their friends and family pulled together to bring a slice of the Mediterranean to Kent

Jade and George met when she pushed in front of him at a bar! He didn’t seem to mind though as he ended up buying her a drink and the pair got chatting. We hop forward and by this time a couple, the two were on a group holiday in Turkey. George had booked a table at a restaurant for a little private time away from their travel companions. Then, before going to meet friends for drinks afterwards, he made up an excuse to go back to their room. Jade arrived to find it decorated in rose petals with a bottle of champagne waiting, and that’s when George popped the question. “It was a complete surprise,” Jade tells us.
The pair had originally intended to tie the knot in Ibiza, with the legalities conducted at Danson House in Bexley, but just a month beforehand Covid restrictions kicked in making the lion’s share of the plan impossible. “I was completely heartbroken after planning the wedding for two years, but my mum, close friends and bridesmaid’s mum all pulled together to give us our Ibiza wedding in England,” Jade says. As luck would have it, the wedding took place on the hottest day of the year, so they were certainly able to enjoy some Mediterranean-like sunshine. “It was so hot everyone had to get changed into cooler clothes,” Jade remembers.

“Ever since I was little I’ve been obsessed with lace. I went to so many shops and fell in love with a lot of dresses, but eventually chose an Enzoni beaded lace gown. Being figure hugging yet light, it was just what I was looking for.
“In line with our neutral theme, George wore a beige linen suit. The groomsmen were dressed to match minus the tie and jacket.”
“My bridesmaids wore champagne/gold silk dresses. I fell in love with them and feel sure the girls will be able to wear them again. As a ‘thank you’ for their support, I gave them all lovely personalised cards from Etsy, champagne-coloured bridal robes, matching earrings and a delicate bracelet each to match their dresses.”
“I’d advise any other couples facing a similar situation to go ahead with whatever you can. Even if you have the smallest wedding, all the tears and stresses really aren’t worth it. Never lose sight of why you chose to get married in the first place. With the benefit of hindsight I really wish I’d been more chilled during the run-up. Remember: anything you do will be amazing as long as you have the people there that count – yourself and your spouse. On the day we were on cloud nine. We couldn’t have planned for better, we are so grateful for everyone who made it happen.”
“As the reception was at my mum’s house our wedding was pretty informal with no table plan. But we did have tables dressed in gypsophila set up in a gazebo where people could sit and take refuge from the sun. These were later moved to make way for the dancefloor.
“Our flowers were big white roses, which I’d always wanted as I feel they’re classic and timeless. I made a welcome sign using pampas grass and gold vinyl to complement our theme. We also hired a white flower wall with gold balloons.”
“In keeping with the informal style of the day we had food platters that guests could help themselves to. These went down a treat and I’d definitely recommend this style of dining instead of a formal three course meal. My mum got us a lovely three-tier cake, but because we were having so much fun, we never even cut it!
“We had an amazing reception. We still get people tell us even now that considering the whole was pulled together in 10 days, it was one of the best they’d been to. Our DJ was Tony R with one of his Soul Town festival signers and an amazing saxophonist, so it really felt like our own Ibiza party in Kent. The saxophone player was a real highlight for us. He got everyone up and dancing, creating such a great atmosphere.”
