Eve and Jonny met at a theatre company in Germany. “Jonny was an actor, and I was a prop maker,” says Eve. “He was the second Northern person I’d ever met, so I thought of him as a bit of a celebrity. We got together one night on the dancefloor on the last weekend before Jonny embarked on a nine-month tour around Germany. I told him to stay in touch, and the rest is history.”

Jonny popped the question during a Sunday morning stroll around Greenwich Park in 2017. “Our two friends were with us and suggested they take a photograph of us under a tree,” shares the bride. “When he proposed, I was very surprised and aghast for what felt like an eternity for Jonny, but I finally said yes. More of our friends were hiding in another area of the park with balloons, bunting and a picnic complete with personalised gingerbread men that looked like us.”

Here the bride shares some of her favourite moments from their big day...

Since getting together, Jonny has introduced me to the magic of the Lake District. We wanted to commemorate our union as well as share the beauty of the Lakes with our guests who had never been there before. We loved New House Farm’s rustic décor, rich character and furnishings. We never wanted a massive or overly fancy wedding, and it was important for the venue to feel authentic. We were very drawn to Hazel from New House Farm, who welcomed us so warmly and made the possibility of a simple and understated wedding a reality. I painted a board black and dressed it with brightly coloured clipboards for our table plan.

Jonny’s aunties live in Scotland and Yorkshire and are avid walkers. They collected sloes which they turned into gorgeous bottles of sloe gin for our favours. For our flowers, we chose roses, eucalyptus and lots of foliage from Floral Boutique.

My brother created a tiered cake stand out of reclaimed wood. We decided not to have a fancy bake and instead opted for a dessert from Wild Zucchinis Bistro that we presented before the dinner so we could take a few cutting pictures. 28 We hired a Land Rover Defender from B Spoke By Spike as our transport.

I wore a Catherine Deane dress called Jo from Exquisite Brides. It had a lace bodice and a diaphanous silk chiffon skirt. I accessorised with an ornate headpiece featuring star and leaf motifs, a pendant and small pearl earrings. The bridesmaids opted for multi-way dresses from Marks & Spencer, which they paired with silver jewellery and heels.

We had some of our dear friends perform on guitars and ukuleles. We also played a medley of songs as we’re both very musical and love live music. It seemed to go down well, and we loved getting to see our talented friends shine and come together.

Jonny chose a Master Debonair suit complete with a waistcoat. He liked it because it was unlike any outfit he’d seen before. The fabric was herringbone in a medium blue, which he paired with a blush tie and pocket square. We felt overwhelmed, deeply in love and very thankful to have such a wonderful day.

There were so many wonderful moments, I laughed so much when we had our wedding photos taken and had a sing-along to Tenacious D on the dancefloor in the evening. Seeing all our friends and family dancing was amazing. I also remember the moment my anxiety melted away when I saw Jonny standing at the end of the aisle. One of our friends went for a nap under a table with a pizza and his cockapoo!

Hazel, the owner of New House Farm, was exceptional! Nothing was too much trouble, and it felt fine to ask any questions we had. The best men’s speech was also wonderful. They got everyone laughing, and it was timed to perfection. For our honeymoon, we went to Amsterdam for three nights and then spent another three in Ireland. We loved doing karaoke, a pizza cruise and enjoying a gig in Dublin. I organised everything but forgot to book the return flights from Ireland!
