The latest wedding trends

We’ve been on a rollercoaster of restrictions, social distancing and guidelines over the last few years and as a result, the wedding industry has had to adapt. In this feature, we wanted to explore how wedding trends have changed and what’s set to be popular in 2022.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS

The pandemic has opened our eyes to just how beautiful outdoor weddings can be.

With environmentally-friendly weddings on the rise, we can expect to see earthy, natural colours and detailed items like terracotta pots, wooden plinths and linen napkins. Neutral colours look great teamed with colours such as rust, gold and coral.

Al fresco weddings give you more space to go all out on your decorations. Create zones to help break up the day, such as a ceremony area, reception area and party area. Why not add a luxurious lounge by bringing eclectic furniture outside? We’ve seen a rise in the popularity of dried flowers in the last few months and are expecting this to continue in 2022. It’s a cost-effective and eco-friendly way of incorporating a pop of colour into your day.

Don’t underestimate the power of lighting, from fairylights and candles to statement light fixtures, these will all help elevate your styling after dark.

More couples are bringing the inside out by carefully considering textures, ambient lighting and opulent styling touches to set the scene. Flowing drapes, gold crockery and decadent glassware will add the wow factor, while statement pieces such as a chandelier hanging from a tree or festoon lighting guiding guests will add a sense of drama.

MAKE A STATEMENT

Whether you go for subtle hues or make a splash with bright and bold shades, there are a variety of options available.

Vibrant palettes with striking flashes of colour and eccentric jewel tones are big for 2022. Coral pinks, pink-purples and vibrant blues are starting to come into their own. If you want to create a dramatic statement, why not opt for a black colour scheme? When used correctly, this striking hue can look gorgeous!

Here at Your West Midlands Wedding, we’ve seen a rise in the number of sage green and blush weddings.

Sage, olive, emerald and moss green are all beautiful shades that work well with blush, yellow and rose gold. These striking colours have become more popular since the increase in outdoor weddings.

A monochromatic palette is a great way of getting creative using just one colour. Use a variety of shades to create drama and highlight certain parts of your day. This can be done with any hue, so don’t be afraid to experiment.

Pantone’s Colour of the Year was recently announced as Very Peri. As a result, we expect to see more purple-themed celebrations in the near future.

ELEGANT ROMANCE

Since the release of Netflix’s tv show Bridgerton, we’ve seen a rise in quintessentially English-styled weddings. The new fascination with the Regency period has seen a rise in blue and white-themed weddings.

Lanterns have been popular at weddings for some time now, and this is going to continue into 2022. Handwritten notes and literary quotes placed around the venue will add a personal touch to your day.

Afternoon tea is a growing trend and is a great alternative to the traditional sit-down meal.

Vintage china sets are starting to make a comeback and add an elegant and sophisticated feel to any setting.
