Effective Email Communication Skills The average professional receives an average of 80 emails each day. Over 350 billion emails are sent globally every day! With that volume of mail, individual messages can easily get overlooked. Email is very useful when used to request specific information, supply specific information, or summarize some other form of communication. However, when used as a conversation tool, miscommunication can occur easily due to the lack of non-verbal cues and contextual understanding. A recent survey by Sendmail, Inc., found that email has caused tension, confusion, or other negative consequences for 64 percent of working professionals. In this program, we examine how to write emails that get results which are clear, effective, and understood.

Communicating Across Boundaries Increasingly we work in corporate structures that require cross-boundary collaboration across organizational boundaries. All too often, artificial boundaries create borders that divide groups into silos: the natural tendency of organizations is to communicate and optimize locally — within a business unit or department, rather than focusing on the global customer experience or the enterprise. This can result in fractured relationships, diminished resources, suboptimal results, and divisive conflict. This program explores how to break down barriers to communication across the organization, how to use technology to open the lines of communication, and how to develop and enterprise-wide mindset.

Becoming the Trusted Advisor The Trusted Advisor position is responsible for aligning business objectives with employees, management, and external stakeholders in designated business units . Being a Trusted Advisor serves as a consultant internally and externally and acts as a partner, champion, and change agent. The role assesses and anticipates specific needs, communicating them proactively with relevant stakeholder groups. The role also creates partnerships across functions to deliver value-added service to teams and departments that reflects the business objectives of the organization. In addition, the Trusted Advisor understands what questions to ask, how to use critical thinking skills, and build trust across several stakeholder groups. This program provides the tools and skill required to become a Trusted Advisor – moving from being a ‘transactant’ to a consultant.

Presentation Skills: Presenting Remotely In the Covid-19 world we live in and the hybrid future of the workplace, virtual meetings and presentations have become the norm and are here to stay. While many presentation skills and best practices apply to both in-person and virtual presentations, specific attention must be focused on the importance of adjusting the presentation approach to the virtual medium. During virtual presentations, the audience has a greater opportunity to lose engagement, misunderstand key concepts, or (as a presenter) miss subtle nonverbal communication cues from the audience . This program provides practical and real-life tools and skills to make every virtual presentation engaging, inclusive, and impactful.

Presentation Skills: Preparing and Planning Preparation is the single most important part of making a successful presentation. It is absolutely the crucial foundation, and as much time should dedicated to it as possible while avoiding short-cuts at every opportunity. Good preparation will ensure that the core messages of the presentation have been thought about carefully and that the messages are relevant to the audience. This program will help you understand how to prepare by considering the objective, subject, audience, place, time, method, and structure of your presentation. Preparation is just as important as the presentation itself. If you're not adequately prepared, it the presentation will be unfocused and disorganized, and that will diminish its impact on your audience.

Presentation Skills: Engaging the Audience Your presentation audience does not always know or understand why they are there and/or what they need to listen out for. When you ask a question or start a conversation with your audience, you show that you care about their concerns, experiences, and opinions. You create a connection that makes them more open to receive the information or ideas that you want to share with them. Interaction helps you “take the temperature” of the audience and gives you valuable information to tailor your presentation in the moment: when you understand more about their context and challenges, you can frame your topic to be more applicable to their reality. This program will provide skills and tools to help you assess your audiences level of knowledge and exposure to your topic – as well as their attitude – thereby helping you adapt your presentation and your topic focus in the moment.

Communicating Upwards: The Role of Radical Candor Our senior leaders have access to more lines of communication than anybody else in an organization, however, paradoxically the information that we flow to them can be suspect or compromised: warning signals are watered down; facts may be omitted; and data may be given a positive spin. It is the role of every employee to create a climate of candor where every member of every team has the right, duty, and permission to communicate information as they receive it up, down, and across the organization. This program explores the concept of radical candor in greater detail while examining the role we all have to create an environment of honest communication
