Congratulations on your selection to the PowerUp Leadership Development program. This experience was designed for professionals like you to provide exposure to key leadership competencies with consideration of the challenges of leading in a complex and dynamic organization. This course outline brochure will provide you with information about what you can expect over the next four months including course overviews, learning outcomes, and any pre-module work requirements. Be sure to keep this brochure handy and follow along as your leadership journey takes place.

MICROLEARNING

Following each module, you will be provided access to relevant microlearning courses, which you can complete on a laptop, tablet, or cellphone. The microlearning offers three-to-five-minute engagements that refreshes your memory of the content covered during the module, motivates thinking around real-time application of the learning, and provides suggestions for further resources to deepen your understanding of the topic. Microlearning courses are highly interactive including quizzes, mix-and-match activities, free-form text entry, videos, and gamification to make each session fun and engaging.

Following each module you will be provided access to the Digital Commons, which provides extra reading, videos, and the course materials to download. In addition, you will be able to upload your intersession assignments directly through the Digital Commons for facilitator feedback.

Prior to the first module, you will complete a customized and tailored 270-degree leadership assessment covering the competencies and objectives of the program. This assessment will be retaken five months following the conclusion of the last module so you can assess your level of development and highlight areas for further development.

In addition, post each module, a Level 1 assessment will be sent to you for completion with a Level 2 assessment provided two months following the conclusion of the final module. In addition, you will join a reconnect vILT, where you will be able to discuss what you have learned, how you have applied that learning, and the behavior change that has occurred.


This is a vILT session. vILT stands for Virtual Instructor Led Training – a highly interactive and participative learning event. This is not eLearning nor a Webinar, but a very engaging and active development process. Therefore, come to the session prepared to be involved in open discussions, work in breakout groups, do presentations, argue and debate with your cohort colleagues, be called on by name to contribute and , most importantly, learn something new and have some fun!

MODULE 1: The Art of Building Trust with Empathy and Listening Trust is the foundation for building strong teams, creating a positive work culture, and producing results. Research has shown that, for some organizations, it takes an average of 89 weeks to execute transformational change within their companies, and an average 39 of those weeks were a direct result of mistrust. Objectives: ●

Explore why it is important to build trust in the workplace

Examine the role of psychological safety and trust building, specifically with hybrid teams

Understand what creates and destroys trust: the Trust Equation

Explore the role emotional intelligence plays in building trust and how to show genuine empathy when listening and responding to team members and colleagues

Learn steps to regain trust if it has been lost

MODULE 2: Holding Effective Feedback Conversations Your ability to give (and receive feedback) in a way that people can hear, understand, and use plays a central role in your capacity to optimize employee performance. Therefore, the better you are at this skill, the more valuable you are to your team. Objectives: ●

Define what feedback is and isn’t: shift the mindset towards a conversation

Learn about the different types of feedback: rectifying and replicating

Explore the always/never do actions of feedback

Learn how to provide feedback constructively

Explore why feedback is not always heard and accepted: the three filters of relationship, truth, and identity

Use a simple model to plan and conduct feedback conversations: SBIR model

MODULE 4: Embracing and Navigating Change As leaders, we have attended many programs that help us manage and lead change, but we often forget that we, as leaders, are not immune to the impacts and emotions of the change process. This module explores the personal and emotional responses to change and provides concrete ideas of how to manage individual reactions to the changed state while still helping others to navigate the change curve and avoid change fatigue. Objectives: ●

Explore why change is necessary

Understand the emotional rollercoaster of change

Learn how to embrace change and prioritize emotions

Explore a leader’s role in helping others navigate change

Understand what leads to change fatigue and how to guard against it

Learn how to build tenacity and resilience in order to remain productive during change events: raise you ambiguity threshold
