An Introduction to Situational Leadership

Situational leadership is a framework that helps leaders better manage the different development levels of employees. It is a framework that allows leaders to identify the appropriate management style needed for a specific type of team member. With four unique styles of leadership, it allows for a more dynamic and adaptive approach to directing teams with multiple working styles or experience levels. For a situational leader, being able to diagnose an issue is extremely important. Not being able to correctly identify the challenges that a team member is facing will ultimately prevent the leader from being able to accurately apply any of the situational leadership styles. In addition, leaders must be able to move from one leadership style to another to meet the changing needs of the organization and its employees. These leaders must have the insight to understand when to change their leadership style and what leadership strategy fits each new situation.

This program will explore the four core competencies of a situational leader (directing, supporting, coaching, and delegating) and will enable leaders to match their leadership behaviors with the needs of the individual or group that they are leading and developing
