A NOTE FROM THE COURSE DIRECTOR
Cyrenians, HTC, experimental typography, miscommunication, dissertation drafts...and that’s just before Christmas. Then Penguin, D&AD, YCN, dissertation three-minute presentations and posters, then the final hand-ins, PDP and of course the Degree Show itself with its assembly, catalogue, curation, showreel and website: this group of students did it all with the courtesy and good-humour that makes a year bittersweet – joyful, but too quick. You all took to the studio like home (I sometimes thought it was home for some) and I can’t think of a single day when I didn’t look forward to seeing you all there. You welcomed visiting lecturers and clients with intelligence and hospitality, and this year I have had by far the most careful, thoughtful and stimulating dissertations ever. The Degree Show bears witness to your talents, and you are terrific ambassadors for the course and a true gift to the University. Thank you to you all: you have worked hard and productively, and been a delight to teach. The staff team and I wish you all the best for the future – and we will miss you.
Simon Bell BA (Hons) Graphic Design Course Director May 2013
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Catalogue design direction and production: Ellen Covey
Catalogue design direction and production team: Prince Arora Sarah Cummings Lee-Ann Galvin Emily Richards Luke Shaw Gabriela Spasova
Thanks also to: Tom Ball Ana-Maria Dragomir Xie Jing Paula Murarescu Vaishali Saini Luke Wilkins
The above are all students on the Graphic Design course whose work this catalogue showcases. The whole Graphic Design student group in this catalogue was involved in assembly, curation, filming, fundraising, publicity, web design and housekeeping. Note: Catalogue work is included as intended at inception: inconsistencies are idiosyncrasies of implementation.
This year has been one of unexpected highs and lows. We, as students, would like to take this oppurtunity to thank everyone who has helped us over the duration of our three years here; from visiting practitioners to friendly technicians (and of course the ever patient cleaners who put up with our mess!). The lecturers have experienced us all at our best and our worst; from the tears before deadlines to our elated dances after grades are returned, and supported us throughout. The opportunities presented have also been more than we would have dreamed. The chances to go to China, as well as around the UK, have given many of us a once in a lifetime experience that won’t be forgotten. Without the input and support recieved, none of us would be here, at the end of the course, ready to take on the world. For this, we cannot begin to express our gratitude to the staff of Coventry School of Art and Design. Simon Bell, Philip Perry, Alexis Taylor, Lisa Webb; We salute you.
