GRANGE FARM CENTRE TRUST

At Grange Farm on the right of the Access Road, is Chigwell Meadows, a Nature Area. This area is divided into five fields made up of woodland, wildflower meadow and wetland, a mosaic of open grassland and scrub, grazing and a field for wildlife only. A mown grass and mobility impaired access path provides a circuitory route around the perimeter of three of the fields, the wildlife pond and deck. The wildlife pond is fed by a swale; a shallow ditch which meanders down the field to support wetland flora and fauna. The swale and pond provide a sustainable and integrated surface water drainage solution for the new housing. To the left of the Access Road are the sports areas and Pavilion. There are four football pitches (senior & junior) with an informal picnic area. The adjacent playing fields of Chigwell School will be connected with a new crossing over the ditch. Also left of the Access Road are the Chigwell Riding Trust for Special Needs and Vitalise Jubilee Lodge, a residential holiday home for the physically disabled and their carers. The Chigwell Riding Trust for Special Needs will use the path around the Nature Area to lead their riders on horseback and the access paths around the Nature Area would be suitable for guests at Vitalise Jubilee Lodge. The Pavilion has an interpretation centre, four sets of changing rooms with full facilities, office & workshop for Essex Wildlife Trust and a 50/60 people hall for use by the community. The building is an award winning design which blends into the contours of the land and has a green roof and solar panels to help reduce carbon usage On the other side of the M11 footbridge is Roding Valley Meadows, an Essex Wildlife Trust Local Nature Reserve and part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The Three Forests Way National Trail passes very close to the entrance of the Access Road from the A113 High Road, Chigwell. The Trail connects the Hainault Forest Country park to the east of the Centre and Hatfield Forest and Epping Forest to the north. The Grange Farm Centre will be a major resource for the new residents as well as the local community providing access to an informal open space and high quality sports facilities for all ages.
