Rumarn Burrell’s first senior hat-trick secured the points for Cove and extended our unbeaten run to nine matches. The striker notched his opener just before the interval, cancelling out Carrick’s well-taken goal for Albion, who had been the better side in the opening half. The team was much improved in the second, Rumarn’s goals clinching what was, in the end, a deserved victory. Paul Hartley had been forced into making two changes with Mark Reynolds unwell and Fraser Fyvie failing to recover from a knock picked up in the midweek win over Montrose. Josh Kerr – making his first appearance since breaking his ankle at the end of August – returned in central defence with Arron Darge taking over from Fyvie in midfield.
“ ...Rumarn’s goals clinching what was, in the end, a deserved victory.”
06 STIRLING ALBION MATCH REPORT And there was a further alteration, captain Mitch Megginson back from illness to take the place of Scott Williamson alongside Burrell. Cove had dominated the early stages, but out of nowhere, midway through the first half, Stirling took the lead. Burrell misplaced his pass, Darge was dispossessed by McLean, and the Albion captain fed through an inchperfect pass. Dale CARRICK ran on to it before curling a fine effort beyond Suman, the first goal we had conceded in 392 minutes. We levelled up just before the interval. Connor Scully was brought down wide on the left and picked himself up to take the delivery. Rumarn BURRELL got a first touch on the ball, steadied himself, then hammered it past Currie from eight yards. Cove upped their game after the interval, and when the second goal arrived, it was of the highest quality. Connor Scully took control of the ball in midfield, switching it to the left for Jacob Jones to run on to. The full-back raced past McGeachie to the bye-line and stood up an inviting cross, Rumarn BURRELL climbing high to power a header down then high up into the roof of the net. Soon after, Megginson broke away from three defenders, despite clearly being pulled back, and fed a pass into the box which Burrell only just failed to reach.
Megginson then attempted to play in Scully, who bundled past a couple of challenges, but was eventually closed down. The third did however finally arrive in our next attack. Blair Yule collected the ball wide right and played it infield. Megginson gathered and ran at two defenders, surging between them and into the box. With the stadium expecting him to shoot, the skipper unselfishly squared it for Rumarn BURRELL who slid the ball into the net to complete his hat-trick. The striker’s treble secured a sixth straight win which kept us clear in third place in the table.
“ Cove upped their game after the interval, and when the second goal arrived, it was of the highest quality.”

Scottish Cup Sat 25th November ‘23 Forthbank Stadium
A convincing, and at times, outstanding performance saw Cove secure victory at freezing Forthbank to cruise through to the Fourth Round, goals in either half from Michael Doyle and Connor Scully enough to see off Albion. With skipper Mitch Megginson suspended for the tie, Paul Hartley was forced into making one change, Kyle Connell taking over up front alongside top scorer Rumarn Burrell. The manager also recalled Mark Reynolds from illness, Josh Kerr stepping forward to anchor the midfield with Arron Darge dropping to the bench. The pitch had passed a morning inspection, but there was still a
covering of frost as Albion kicked-off on a chilly afternoon. It was Cove who had the better of the early exchanges, and after winning successive corners, from the second of those the team took a deserved lead. Scully swung in his delivery from the right, and Burrell was pushed as he tried to make contact, but Michael DOYLE was right behind him and powered an unstoppable header past Weir. The opening twenty minutes had produced some of our best football of the season, the team in complete control, and the only disappointment had been the failure to increase our advantage.
09
And then, with half an hour on the clock, out of nowhere, the home side should have been level. Having forced a corner, the ball was played in from wide right and Thomson found himself free six yards out. His powerful header crashed off the underside of the bar and was hooked clear.
without offering much of a threat, and in our first attack, we punished them.
Minutes later, it might have been 2-0. After more Cove possession, Connor Scully let fly from just outside the box, his angled drive flashing narrowly wide of the right post.
Back came Albion, and they looked certain to score when, after a scramble in the box, Thomson shot from just eight yards. His effort was on target, but Josh Kerr slid in from nowhere to make a vital block.
With the temperature dropping, Cove got the second half underway, but Stirling were seeing more of the ball, albeit
Blair Yule picked up on the right and fed the ball infield. Connor SCULLY took a clever first touch, created a yard of space for himself, and stroked a shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.
10 STIRLING ALBION MATCH REPORT (CUP)
In the sixty-third minute, Connell flicked on a high ball for Burrell to chase down, and after taking it to the bye-line, the striker cut it back perfectly for Scully to run on to. Connor opened up his body to shoot left-footed, McLean getting a touch to prevent a third goal. Albion had one last effort, Cooper running through to fire off a decent shot which Nick Suman tipped over, and then we
might have made it 3-0, Scully playing in Burrell, but the striker’s low angled shot flashed just past the left post. Cove comfortably saw out the remainder of the tie, the win setting up a Fourth Round encounter with Brora Rangers at Dudgeon Park.

12 ANNAN ATHLETIC MATCH REPORT
MATCH REPORT Rumarn Burrell’s second hat-trick in three games secured an eighth straight win for Cove, extended our unbeaten run to eleven, and secured a deserved three points from what was a hardfought encounter. We played out much of the second half with ten men following the sending-off of Josh Kerr, but only rarely looked in danger of relinquishing the victory. Paul Hartley had made two changes from the Scottish Cup win over Stirling Albion a fortnight ago. Having rolled his ankle in training, goalkeeper Nick Suman dropped to the bench with Balint Demus starting for the first time since the end of August, and skipper Mitch Megginson returned from suspension in place of Kyle Connell. In our first attack, Megginson was scythed to the ground and required

prolonged treatment. From the resultant free-kick some thirty yards out, Connor Scully curled in an inviting delivery, Mark Reynolds stole in at the back post and nodded the ball across, and Rumarn BURRELL tapped home from point blank range for his thirteenth goal of the season. The lead was to last less than two minutes. Annan broke down the right, Smith fed a clever ball into the box and Michael GARRITY rifled an unstoppable angled shot high into the roof of the net. We came close to restoring our lead soon after, Burrell teasing two defenders inside the area before making a yard of space. His powerful curling effort flew just wide of the far post. Soon after, an excellent Cove move almost paid dividends.
13
Burrell gathered wide right and linked with Megginson, the captain laying the ball off for Yule, who switched play to Connor Scully. The midfielder played in Jones, who passed back to McGowan, and Paul then set up Scully whose twenty yard effort was tipped just over by Fleming. There was an even better opportunity in the twenty-first minute when Scully flicked the ball forward and Mark Reynolds was brought crashing to the ground inside the box for what was a clear penalty. The normally deadly Mitch Megginson stepped up to take it, but his powerfully struck effort clipped the top of the bar and flew over.
Will Gillingham was booked for handball when halting an Annan attack, conceding a free-kick twenty-eight yards out. Aidan Smith caught his shot sweetly, the ball flying over Demus but crashing down off the underside of the bar before being cleared. In our next attack, we regained the lead. Mitch Megginson controlled a pass forward and eased the ball into the area for Rumarn BURRELL to run on to and cleverly chip the onrushing Fleming. Ryan Muir hacked the ball away, but the linesman signalled it had already crossed

“ Burrell was doing a superb job on his own up front, and in the seventieth minute he fastened on to another Reynolds pass...” the line, and the striker raced off to celebrate his fourteenth of the campaign. His fifteenth might have arrived two minutes later. Megginson gathered wide on halfway, looked up, and swept a superb crossfield pass straight into the path of Burrell,
who finished confidently only to see the assistant signal offside. Balint Demus was called into action shortly before the interval, making a fine low one-handed save from Garrity’s angled effort, then home manager Peter Murphy was red-carded after disputing the referee’s decision not to award his side a penalty following a scramble in the box. With ten minutes played in the second half, we were reduced to ten men when Kerr dived in to challenge Docherty and caught the Annan midfielder. Referee Hardie immediately brandished the red card. Rumarn Burrell again came close to scoring minutes later. Having confidently clutched a cross, Demus played a long ball for the striker to chase. Quitongo failed to deal with it and Rumarn got a touch, but Fleming raced from his line to clear.
ANNAN ATHLETIC (4-3-3) Down to ten men, Paul Hartley then
sacrificed Mitch Megginson, Sena replacing the captain to stiffen up the midfield, but it was Cove who offered the next threat. Burrell was doing a superb job on his own up front, and in the seventieth minute he fastened on to another Reynolds pass, racing away from Matty Douglas before unleashing a shot from the edge of the box which Fleming eventually gathered at the second attempt. The striker finally got his second hat-trick of the season soon after. Having repelled an Annan attack, Cove worked the ball clear and Michael Doyle sent an excellent pass over the top. Connor Scully raced in behind, beat Fleming to it and cut the ball back for Rumarn BURRELL to take a touch then roll the ball into the net for his fifteenth of the campaign.

20 SPFL AWARDS
The side’s outstanding form was recognised with a double award for the month of November. After four straight cinch League One victories, and only one goal conceded, Paul Hartley secured the vote as Glen’s Manager of the Month, while Rumarn Burrell picked up the cinch Player of the Month trophy for scoring five times during the run, including his hat-trick against Stirling Albion. It was the first treble of the striker’s senior career, and he was thrilled to have been honoured: “I’ve been really happy with my form, so it’s great to be recognised like this, but I’ve got to thank all the other players; they’ve been going so well and creating the chances for me to put away.
“It is fantastic to have my individual contribution highlighted, but it’s a real team effort, and they all deserve the recognition too.” Paul was also delighted to have collected the trophy which he believes was just reward for the efforts of everyone on the playing and coaching staff: “It’s great to get the award, but I always say these honours are a team effort. There has been so much hard work put in over the past few months; this is recognition of everything that all my staff have done during that time. “We are determined to keep that going and getting this recognition acts as an incentive for all of us.”

22 CAPTAIN’S VIEW We go into this one in good spirits after last weekend’s long trip down to Annan brought three more points. We had to put in a different kind of performance in the second half, having been reduced to ten men, but the boys were so professional, and we deserved the victory. Two months ago, we might have faltered in that type of game, but there is so much confidence in the squad now, and we saw it through. The lads who have been playing every week have been brilliant, but I would like to highlight those who came on last Saturday. Sena replaced me and Arron Darge took over from Paul McGowan, and they did a superb job to make sure we saw the game through. I was also delighted for Balint Demus who stepped in for Nick and was confident and assured. That was further confirmation that we have two very good keepers! On a personal level, it was obviously disappointing to miss the penalty, particularly as that was a big day for me, Galabank being the last ground in the SPFL that I had to tick off in terms of playing there, but I noticed online that evening clips of Harry Kane missing his in last year’s World Cup against France, and I figured it can happen even to the very best! What I was happier about was that I was able to put that out of my mind, concentrate on the match, and play in Rumarn Burrell for our second goal. Our time on the pitch together has been more limited than I would have hoped, injury and suspension curtailing my appearances so far this season, but I think everyone can see that we work well as a pair. He has frightening pace, a nice touch and an obvious eye for goal, and is on an incredible goalscoring streak,

“ ...I will do whatever I can to help the team.” whereas a lot of the time I’m dropping a bit deeper to help link-up the play. I’m hoping the partnership can become even more successful as the season goes on, and hopefully I can now get more of an extended run in the side, which will allow us to build the relationship further. I know a lot of people will probably view me simply as an out and out goalscorer, but I’ve always tended to drop back a bit and get involved, and it’s something I enjoy. Of course, I love scoring, but I’ve always taken a real pride in the other parts of my game, and I will do whatever I can to help the team. Alloa are our latest visitors, opposition we know pretty well, and we will be looking to put on a much better performance than we did down there earlier in the season. We are approaching it with confidence, the games just can’t come quickly enough when you’re on the kind of run we are right now, and there’s a real feeling of positivity around the stadium. No-one is getting carried away though, we know exactly what’s expected of us, and everyone is determined to put another three points on the board. Mitch COYC!
26 VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT
PAUL HARTLEY Welcome to Balmoral Stadium for a game which I hope will see us extend our winning run. We’re going along nicely right now, which is a credit to all the players and how hard they have been working. We’ve got a really good team now, and what pleased me more than anything last weekend was that when we went down to ten men, it didn’t affect us, and the players who came on just slotted into position and got on with it. The system we’re using is working. It obviously didn’t happen overnight, and we’ve had to work hard on it, and the signs are there for all to see that we are in a good place. The way we’re playing is a system I used a lot back in the early days of my management career at Alloa, it was my go-to, fairly simple, and the players all know their jobs and responsibilities. A few months ago, we probably went back to basics. We hadn’t had our strongest team at the start of the season, and we needed to find stability. It was similar back in the 2021/22 campaign, we didn’t get off a great start then for the same kind of reasons, but when we got up and running, we ended up having that long, unbeaten run. I thought back to that, I looked at the fact that we don’t have great natural width in the current side, and I knew we had to find a way to get the best out of the players. That’s what we’ve been able to do, but it’s also down to the boys buying into it, for them to understand their roles both in and out of possession, and to implement that.

“ You can see they’re enjoying it, they’re in good spirits, and there’s a real togetherness.” There’s a balance now, they’re helping each other out. If one goes forward, the other sits in, and it’s working, but we need to keep hammering home the fine details, we all need to keep at it and not let our standards drop. There is a pressure that comes with winning. It’s much better than if you’re struggling at the bottom of the table, but it’s there nonetheless, and I’ve been pleased with how the players have handled that too. You can see they’re enjoying it, they’re in good spirits, and there’s a real togetherness. The group gets on really well and it helps that the majority of them are based in the city now. A few are travelling, but they’ve got good personalities, the likes of McGowan and Doyley, and they’re experienced enough to handle that side of things. It’s a strong dressing room right now, different types of characters, but they get on well, and that definitely helps out on the park. The aim is to keep it up against Alloa. They’re under new management now, club legend Andy Graham taking his first steps as a gaffer – so, welcome to the madhouse Andy! – but while he’s fresh to the job, he knows the place inside out, and I wish him well. Our defeat down there at the start of September was disappointing, we were really poor that day, losing to a sloppy goal, but thankfully our fortunes have changed, and we’ll be looking to cause them far more problems this time round! Enjoy the game! Paul Hartley
